Taz and Maddie will steal your heart as your read their story! I was wondering how it was all going to play out. Taz continuing to persue Maddie after years and years of trying. I kept thinking about Jane Austen's book, Persuasion. The waiting and longing and devotion. Loved seeing that come out in Taz's character and his love of Maddie! *Be Still My Heart*
Not only was the sweet and tender love story just wonderful, but the humor and banter between these two made me giggle and laugh out loud so hard! I just loved it all so much!
I loved the vulnerability that they both had to show as they had this last chance together. What does Maddie really want? Does she want to give up her dream or can she find a way to make both of her dreams come true and keep her identity? Taz is all in and has the time of the America 250th celebration to prove it to her and see if she's all in too, or will she walk away for one final time?!
I have loved all of these books so far! Such a fun and fabulous multi-author series! If you haven't read any yet, I highly recommend you do so. I don't know if I could pick a favorite so far. I've loved how they all connect in with each other so smoothly! And I'm looking forward to figuring out who the prankster is!

I’ve been dying to get my hands on Taz’s story from the start of the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series. Not only is Taz a big, lovable, golden retriever type of man, but he’s got a teasing streak that runs through him and it really sets him apart, lending a lot of entertaining humor to a sweet story.
Maddie and her bodyguard horse, Mack, are in town and I laughed so hard at the way Mack interacts with Taz, who is determined to convince Maddie to give him another chance. I don’t know how this works, but these two were together for a couple of years and then went back to being friends. How? That’s pretty admirable, especially considering that Taz is head-over-heels for Maddie in the sweetest and swooniest of ways.
This story is full of all the things to love: friends-to-love, forced proximity, hilarious animal antics, found family (and real family) shenanigans, and a celebratory summer hockey tournament. My heart was so full and happy reading this one!

Review To Taz Maddie is his sun. Ahhh… this made my heart melt. Which woman will never want a person to see her that way? Taz is really like a Golden retriever who really never stop loving Maddie but also love that he is patient and he waited and gave her space so that she can figure out things and also giving her the assurance and comfort that she needed. Love that they also show each other their vulnerability to each other.
The marriage pact that they did years ago stating that when they get gold medals for the Olympics they will marry each other. So, Taz is holding on to that however Maddie is still afraid and insecure. She is also not really comfortable being on cameras though she is an Olympic equestrian.
Love the interviews that they had, encouraging and also compliment each other. And also the people around them help them to know what to do with their feelings. Moments with Mack her horse and also Lottie’s trio mischievous goats are just so entertaining.
Can’t spoil too much of the story. You will have to read it to find out.
This is the 9th book of the Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights Series written by 13 authors. Can’t wait to read the next story.
I was gifted complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own. Thanks @kerryevelynbooks for the ARC copy.
Can't wait to read her other books.
You can purchase this book on Amazon and it is available on KU.
Honest to goodness knows how I love Kerry’s voice,as she writes ,she excites with a flourish of her pen about her swoon worthy men and the steadfast independent women they fall in love with.
Kerry’s writing style ,her characters who always make me smile. The hockey plays that oh my days ,feel like you’re right there in among the action taking place as the East meet West in the fiercest contest. No one writes hockey like Kerry. I’ll say that in a hurry to anyone . She writes with passion, fun and heart. I’ve watched enough of the same games to know the blow by blow, for a start!
The way that all of these special celebration books have been brought together to celebrate not only Ice Hockey, but the swoon as they fall in love as well as the most worthy of all reasons as this series of thirteen great authors books ,do celebrate 250 years of USA 🇺🇸 Independence.
Now enough about everything else and let’s get down to Taz and his Maddie. Though Mack has a paddy in his stall ,it doesn’t seem that he likes poor Taz at all. But no matter, Taz will win him round because he’s going nowhere soon, she’s found. As there’s only ever been one lady for him ,the same one he fell in love with one day eight years ago sat on a church pew ,you know. The day she said thank you ,and it sounded so demure, like the angels were whispering ,so pure. That’s when he knew what his heart beat for. Swoon!
Maddie , she’s unsure . She knows that she still loves Taz with all her heart even though no longer sweethearts and accepts the whole razzmatazz that goes with being his friend.
They were a great team when they went out those first couple of years but they wanted different things and their lives were so different back then it seems. Him with his hockey goals at top flight. Her with the Olympics and more in her sight with her equestrian dreams..
She loves him ,never did stop but had to put a halt to their relationship, needed him as a friend on who she could depend and so he became just that. He didn’t go into a strop as Mack she did sit atop with her riding crop. Anything so he could stay in her orbit ,this rocket man. Who loves her to bits. Thinks she’s exquisite and totally with it and well worth the wait.
There’s been multiple proposals of the wedding kind to try and change her mind over the years. All to no avail. Will he ever get his gal in a veil? But it needs a big build up he’s got to thinking as his heart does some serious sinking.
As it plummets ,he has an epiphany. Then it hits like a Gordie Howe. Pow! A hat-trick ,a special kind. And he knew just what he could do to change her mind. If only he could get her and him together in the same zone then he’d be sure to take her to their own special end zone and home ice advantage to a paradise for two ,well unless you’re counting the menagerie of four legged friends too. Kerry my sweet , this is a real treat and I love it no end. I’m so proud to say this my friend.
Taz has been in love with Maddie for years, and wants to marry her. Maddie keeps telling him no. And before you get bees in your bonnet, this is not that kind of story. Maddie loves Taz, but she has this bizarre moral code that basically says “I can’t reach my full potential and have a relationship at the same time.”
And frankly, that put me off of the character for a good third of the book. Looking back, though, I can see the journey better, because you know what they say about hindsight. A lot of this mindset came from her mother, who quietly reminded Maddie about distractions and how they could interfere with goals.
Taz has proposed to Maddie six times. Six times! She’s turned him down every time, as if she’s doing him a favor because of (insert ridiculous standard or fear here). One of her thoughts was, “having a life with him just wasn’t practical.” As if love is practical. as if LIFE is practical.
Taz is steadfast. He loves Maddie with every bit of his being. He would do anything to have her be his partner in life. He’s a man whose emotional intelligence is pretty much off the charts, which makes me love him even more, as I am a woman who feels everything, all the time, and there is no off switch. But everyone has a breaking point.
It takes a heart-wrenching event to shake things up in a way that finally gets through to Maddie, because you know this book is gonna have a happy ending. I truly understand her point of view, but most of the time, I didn’t agree with it. And that’s okay, because I don’t have to agree with what she does, as long as I get to see her finally stop sabotaging herself.
So, though this book had a rocky start for me, I warmed up to the story, and was extremely gratified when these two got together. If you’ve been reading the series so far, congratulations. If you’re just dipping your toe in, I’m here to tell you that each of these books can stand alone, and will look good in your bookcase. So get the book, won’t you?
Kerry Evelyn finally gives readers the hockey captain’s story that we have been waiting for! Her addition to the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series, The Rocket’s Red Glare is a multi-chance romance that finally gives a beloved character his happy ending.
Taz has loved one person almost his entire life. The lengths that this man goes for someone who keeps rejecting him is heartwarming and the kind of love most of us dream about. Maddie loves Taz also, but she is afraid she is going to hurt him and can’t bear the thought. So while they once dated, she broke it off and has rejected him ever since, all while still remaining in love with him. She even gives him a challenge, one that she feels will be impossible to achieve, he does and she still tells him no. Yet, Taz understands what goes into chasing and achieving his dreams and isn’t giving up on what he knows they have and could grow together.
If you are familiar with Kerry’s writing, you will see many characters from other series written by her in this book. These characters all add something to the story, supporting our MCs while they chase their dreams and listen to their hearts. While Taz is an open book, Maddie is definitely more closed off. Not because she doesn’t care for Taz, in fact, she cares about him so much she never wants to cause him pain. As she begins to fully trust Taz and herself, she finally allows herself to open up to true happiness.
This series has been so much fun to read, with each author adding something special to the overall collection. I was excited to read Kerry’s installation to this series as her stories always bring me joy and leave me smiling. I can’t wait to read the rest and see how this series ends as a whole.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

First off Kerry always steals my heart when I read her books. I know I'm going to start the first chapter off with a bang. This one was no different. Taz OH THIS MAN!! To have a man that loves like this just melted my heart. This book was a blast to read because not only did we have great main characters but we also got to spend time with all the characters that we love from Kerry's other books as well. I always love when authors bring in characters we love because they all know we can never get enough of them. LOL...This book will have you laughing so hard (crazy animal mayhem / our prankster of course), smiling throughout, swooning hard, falling in love and then will leave us with a beautiful ending!
Taz & Maddie have been friends for years. They were together for awhile but then Maddie broke it off. But Taz never stops trying to pursue her! This man truly has a heart of gold and would give her the world. He finally convinces her to come to Washington for the 250th anniversary parade so they can spend time together in hopes he can win her over again. As they spend more time together they will start getting closer again. They will also have friends and family there to cheer them on as well.
I love spending time with all these characters in this series. It's so amazing seeing all these characters' point of view from game day. So even though these books go together they are very different and that's what makes this series so unique. If you love hockey romance and books that will make you laugh, smile, swooning, take you to a happy place and forget life, then I highly recommend this book and series!
Thank you Kerry Evelyn for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
The Rocket’s Red Glare by Kerry Evelyn is the 9th book in the Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights series of sweet romantic comedies. Each book is a standalone story, but the readers will find reoccurring characters and overlapping story lines. Reading the stories together, even if not in any specific order, is a great way to enjoy the stories. I would suggest probably saving the last story for the end though, as that will probably reveal the ongoing prankster.
This book introduces readers more indepth to Travis Niall Houlihan, aka Houli or Taz or Rocket, center for Boston’s NHL team, Olympic gold medalist, and East Captain. Readers also meet the love of Taz’s life, Madelyn Malone, aka Mad-neigh or Maddie, Olympic gold medalist equestrian and designer. Taz has asked Maddie to marry him multiple times and she has turned him down with lame excuses and delays. They have met back up at the 250 birthday celebration for the United States in DC. Taz is determined to win Maddie and prove to her that they are great together and Maddie keeps running. While Taz continues to encourage his teammates to win the tournament, battle a prankster and keep his spirits up. I love Taz and his continued fighting for the woman he loves and the future he wants. He has been fighting and holding on for over 8 years, but will it be enough? At what point should he admit defeat and move on? I have to be honest, Maddie has not been my favorite character. I realize she has her issue that she is dealing with but dragging Taz along seems so hurtful and mean. He would give her everything and she just keeps taking. But to see what happens, grab a copy of the book for yourself.
I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my honest opinion of this book.
Oh yes, I have been waiting to read Taz Houlihan’s story since I started this Hockey Nights series. We see glimpses of him in the other books, but only brief mentions. Here he takes centre stage to try once and for all to win the heart and love of the girl he’s already proposed to and been rejected by several times already.
Taz is captain of the East team, and Maddie is the girl holding his heart. Despite being turned down, Taz is still the ever-hopeful and optimistic bouncy puppy dog and never gives up. He and Maddie are still great friends, and she agrees to come and watch the hockey games. Maddie is an Olympic gold medal winner for equestrian sports, and Taz won gold with his USA teammates in hockey. Now, he’s representing the best of the East, and she’s featuring in the parade with her horse Mack, so Taz sees this as the perfect opportunity to win his girl over.
I loved Taz so much, just like I knew I would. He was a big, cuddly golden retriever; he wore his heart on his sleeve, and Maddie was his whole world. Although outwardly, he always seemed to be smiling, he also felt big feelings too. He felt the losses of his team, and he always felt Maddie’s rejections, even though he tried to make light of them. He was a great leader of the team, but his heart always led him, sometimes at the detriment of his game.
Maddie was sweet, but she needed a good shake sometimes. Her independence got in her way so often. Her feelings for Taz were blindingly obvious, but she didn’t trust them or herself. I was so happy when she finally woke up to what everyone else could already see.
Let me start by saying that Taz is like a little puppy squirming in your lap that wants to give you slobbery kisses. He is so likable. I was rooting for him from the beginning pages. He is a gentleman, and is patient, incredibly patient. He knows what he wants, and is determined to make Maddie see it and feel it.
Taz and Maddie were good together at one time in their younger years. But they both had different ideas of what their future should look like. Both had dreams, and that did not include a relationship with one another. However, there is one major difference between the two. Taz never gave up. He never stopped loving her or pursuing her. But Maddie would not budge. I wanted to shake her a few times, and tell her to look at what is right in front of you. I also understood some of her reasoning.
This romance was emotional and insightful, while also being witty with plenty of laughs along the way. For hockey lovers, there is plenty of action on the ice as well. But most importantly there is a sweet story of two people who needed to be together. This was an absolute gem of a romance. The hockey team prankster is still on the prowl. I really cannot wait to find out more about this individual.
This book was sweet from cover to cover. I enjoy how this author pens characters that have vulnerabilities and are not perfect. This makes the book more enjoyable because the characters are more like real life, so this means readers can relate more fully to them.
This series is fantastic. I love the romance, the humor and emotion in each story.
Thank you to the author and BookSirens for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Ok, I might have laughed out loud more times while reading this addition to the fantastic Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series than any of the others and may have even had to wipe the laughter tears away after the locker room cookie eating incident but even though I found this one to score the most goals in the humor category, it also scored in the emotional and romantic categories too. This is not a second chance romance but actually a seventh chance romance, if you count the number of proposals but if you base it on NHL player Taz Houlihan’s undeniable and steadfast love for equestrian gold medalist Maddie Malone than it’s a one and done because for eight and a half years he never gave up even when she trampled his heart.
This clean romance with plenty of hockey playing for the hockey lovers is one that I started and never put down until I finished the last page and would have loved to follow this couple for years to come. Taz is one of those characters who you can’t help but love and hope that everything works out for him. It’s written well, with wonderful characters, humorous, playful banter as well as deep emotional conversations, and the numerous secondary characters including the animals add so much additional interesting tidbits that I know it will be one I will reread many times. If you’ve not read any of these books in this series, then you’re truly missing out and you really don’t want to miss this one.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is part of the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series that celebrates the 250th birthday of America. Each book can be read as a standalone, but they all include the hockey tournament in DC.
I have been waiting for Taz's story since I read "Oh, Say Can You See." Taz has loved Maddie for over 8 years and he has proposed multiple times, but Maddie has always turned him down. When they are in DC together, Taz will of course try and take his shot again.
Taz and Maddie are pretty different - he's an empath and feels things deeply while she is fiercely independent and can be super blunt. But one commonality they have is feeling like they can be a lot.
This story had me feeling all the feels. Cheering Taz on as he continually and consistently shows up for Maddie. Empathizing with Maddie as she battles her fears and tries to sort out her feelings for Taz. Feeling the hurt, disappointment, and hope as their relationship progresses. But while the road isn't free of bumps, we get a lovely HEA.
This is my first read by Kerry Evelyn, and I am excited to explore more of her books - especially the ones that feature some of the side characters!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes: "But YOU are my dream."
"Sometimes opportunities present themselves. And you have to say yes to them."
"But you're my home."
"I don't want easy. I want real. I want you."
"I choose you...Every day. Even when the remote mutes me."
"Maybe sometimes, you just let yourself move with the rhythm and trust you won't fall."
Another book down in the Stars and Stripes and Hockey Nights. 4.5/5⭐️
I’ve been waiting for Taz’s book. The captain who leads his team. Pining for the girl he’s loved forever despite being shot down 6 times.
I liked Taz but I was conflicted. Part of me loved how he knew what he wanted and who he wanted and wasn’t going to let anything deter him. Part of me was wanting to scream “dude wake up! Is it worth all this work and pain?!”
Maddie. Again conflicted. I understood why she wanted to be independent. But also wanted to scream “girl you can have the life and the guy what are you so afraid of?!” I do wish we got a little more of a backstory about her mom and maybe the pressure that was put on her to understand.
But when I was finished and I sat back to think I had one thought. Love is messy. True love is messier. It’s fighting for the person you love. It’s loving them - especially at their worst. Loving them enough when they don’t love themself. It’s carrying and providing comfort and support. A ground to always land on. A home to come back to. Never giving up, even when it’s hard. And that’s what Taz is.
While I liked Taz lots better than Maddie, she eventually came around and I ended up liking her.
I really want to know who’s behind all these pranks. Is it one person or different people. Will we ever find out for sure?!?! Another closed door, kisses only, super sweet romance that celebrates Americas 250th and hockey!
I’ve been waiting for Taz’s story since the moment he skated onto the page in the first book of this series "Oh Say Can you See", and this book absolutely delivers on everything that made him such a standout. He is, truly, nothing but green flags--charming, emotionally open, funny, and the kind of hero who makes you grin through entire chapters. There were so many laugh‑out‑loud moments balanced with genuine vulnerability, and that combination made his arc incredibly satisfying.
Maddie… well, I didn’t always love her choices or her resistance to letting herself fall for him. Her hesitations sometimes pulled me out of the romance, especially since Taz is basically the human embodiment of “swoon.” But even with my occasional frustration, their dynamic still lands, and the second‑chance angle, which isn’t usually my favorite trope, works here. It’s a solid addition to a series that’s already full of heart.
One of my favorite things about this world is how interconnected the stories are. Every time a familiar hockey player shows up, it feels like a little reunion, and getting to know the players across books adds so much warmth and texture. This installment adds to the great world building of this series.
If you’re already invested in the series, Taz’s story is absolutely worth the read. And if you’re new? You’ll probably end up wanting to meet every single one of these hockey players.
I've been looking forward to reading the story of Taz, the captain of the East team in the Stars and Stripes Hockey Tournament series. He's had some fun side parts in the previous books I've read in this series.
Taz and Maddie's anotherchance-romance is sweet, angsty, and well developed. Taz has loved Maddie for 8 ½ years in an on-again off-again relationship. Maddie had to do a lot of serious thinking to realize she really didn't want to lose Taz and to be willing to give him her love. Taz is the most patient guy, until maybe he's not going to be any more?
Unfortunately this sweet romance was interrupted too many times with too many side characters and their back stories. If you've read all of Kerry's books you probably would get a kick out of seeing all of her other characters, but I haven't and it just detracted from the story for me.
After reading several books in this tournament series, it's getting a little bit redundant to read about the five games they played and the outcomes and the plays. It is interesting to get the personal experiences of the characters through the tournament. However seeing game 2 through three different perspectives in the consecutive chapters was a bit too much for me.
Kerry's crew is going to love this book.
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book.
I am going to start by thanking Kerry for my ARC of this 5 star book. I have read it twice now!! I love it. Kerry never ever fails to grab my heart and mind with her writing and this book was no exception. Each time I read a new book in this series I fall in love with the hockey hero. Taz might be up at the top. He certainly gets the prizes for loyalty, perseverance and undying love. Gotta be honest here, Maggie is definitely not my favorite main female. I did remember her as being one of the 3 M's from the Crane Cove series and I guess I have never really quite gotten her. I loved the horses and horse talk. I have never been horse riding but might be getting my chance soon. Sounds like a great experience. I loved the story and loved seeing some of our favorites from Kerry's past books making an appearance and many of the players named from prior books in this series. Definitely a beautifully written book. Kerry's writing never lets the reader down and the conversations were exceptional and the reader could feel all the emotions in them. Another great book in this special Stars and Stripes series and one that would be a great book for those not familiar to read a Kerry book since it can be read as a standalone. Again, thanks Kerry for another great book from your heart, mind, and soul!
Another spectacular title for this series! This story has all you could want - childhood friends who reconnect, each successful in their own sport, kindness and care shown throughout the story, knowing that the ending will be worth it all. Taz is such a sweet, loyal guy that you can't help but root for him all the way through. Maddie doubts her own worth, even after all she has achieved. And she adores Taz but her doubts are so strong.
I feel like many of us will relate to the feelings Maddie expresses - doubt in our own self-worth is so easy to fell. But this story shows us that we often see things that aren't correct and those who care about us will pursue the connection because they see a worth we are struggling with. That is the hope that fills this story and the joy that brings it to its conclusion. Real struggles and yet, we still get to live for the moment in the unrealistic world of the hockey tournament that is just part of the life Taz lives, without it being the demanding, take-it-all sport it is sometimes portrayed as. I love that it is a part of the story without being THE story.
This was a read it cover-to-cover in one sitting story. I fully enjoyed it and love that it is a sweet, clean, hopeful story appropriate for all. Nothing better than that.
I received an ebook copy of this title from the author. All opinions are my own.
The longer this series goes on, the more fun it is to “know” all the players! 2 seconds in and I LOVED the text convo! “Six proposals. The love of his life, who keeps saying no. And the hockey star who refuses to quit the long game.” There are a lot of characters being introduced in the beginning. Most not from the series already.
I was excited to see Taz’s story play out and I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend reading this either as a part of the series or a standalone, especially if you are also a hockey fan! This one has a lot more hockey than the other ones thus far, there is hockey and game play etc in all of them but this one felt like more game play. Cute kids with the families of the other players, that was a fun aspect of this one. Maddie resisting and Taz begging seemed a bit too long and drawn out.
It was really fun to see all the connections woven throughout this book especially from the rest of the series so far. Maddie is hard to please and for a bit annoying to me.
I was selected to be a part of the ARC Team for this book and the Street team for the Stars, Stripes & Hockey Nights collection with 13 books by 13 authors! Thank you for choosing me to receive an advanced copy of this book. I absolutely loved it. These opinions are 100% own and I review all the books I read. #HockeyNightsRomCom #USA250
Taz is the ultimate golden retriever hero… A cat dad, endlessly patient, and absolutely devoted to Maddie. Six proposals, six rejections, yet he never stopped believing they belonged together. His quiet persistence and unconditional love made him impossible not to adore.
Maddie's journey was just as beautiful. Watching her realise she didn't need to become someone else to deserve love was incredibly moving, and this quote perfectly captures the heart of their story…
“I’m not asking you to be different. I’m asking you to be here.”
I also loved how hockey was woven throughout the story without overshadowing the romance. Taz's teammates were an absolute delight, bringing plenty of laugh-out-loud moments while also showing up when it mattered most. The balance between humour and emotionally charged scenes was so well done, making every heartbreaking moment hit even harder.
Sweet, emotional, full of mutual pining, and wrapped in an incredible found family, this is a closed-door romance that proves you don't need spice to deliver all the feels.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is another sweet hockey romcom in the stars and stripes series. The story is about Taz and Maddie. They’ve known each other for quite some time and well, Taz is ready to make a commitment, Maddie is not. The one thing I really liked about the story is Maddie addressing her fear’s of losing herself and her insecurities of not being good enough. Taz was patient and understanding, but it all comes down to Maddie coming to terms with what she really wants for herself. The companionship and chemistry between them is very sweet. The rest of the book is about the hockey tournament between the east and the west. Throughout the series, there is a lot of camaraderie, pranks, a strong brotherhood between players. There are a lot of characters that are part of the story that are also tied into the series. In my opinion, if you have not read the other books in the series, it may be hard to follow along. Something that intrigues me is how all the authors in the series pull together books that overlap the two week stretch of the hockey games and keep the scores, team players and wins or loses consistent throughout the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
- Second chance - Hockey romance - He falls first - It's always been you - All the longing
I have a soft spot for Taz. I think he is pretty misunderstood by many. He deflects many of his insecurities by putting on a persona he has perfected over the years. But deep down, all he really wants is to be with his one true love, Maddie. They were together when they were younger, but Maddie broke things off so that she wouldn't hamper Taz's hockey career.
Taz, on the other hand, used their time apart to work on himself, fixing the things he thought were the issue with their relationship. But, truly, it was Maddie's insecurities that drove her decisions. And it takes her a long time to realize that.
While Taz is in Washington, DC for the hockey tournament for the nation's birthday, Maddie is also in town with her horse Mack to participate in the parade. Taz decides he is going to keep trying to convince Maddie they belong together. It's not going to be an easy task, but the tournament captain is up for the challenge! After all, the reward is better than any hockey trophy!
I have been absolutely loving this multi author series and can't wait for the next installment!
🎇 THE ROCKET’S RED GLARE 🎇 by Kerry Evelyn is a sweet, kisses-only, second chance, fun, sports romcom between two gold medalist who couldn’t be more different!!
He’s the totally lovable, golden retriever sweetheart, who treats her with such tenderness and respect, adores her just the way she is, is always “consistent, kind, and supernaturally patient.” (Hello - 6 rejected proposals!!)
She has black cat energy, is outspoken, likes to be in control, needs to succeed at everything, and has armor covered walls around her heart — as well as a bodyguard horse named Mack.
There’s plenty of fun banter, hilarious pranks, heartfelt moments, and some great lines. When she came close to him, “my brain forgot how to brain.” 😂 “I’ve been choosing you every day since I met you.” 🥰
Will she ever believe they deserve their own HEA? Will the 7th proposal be the one?
I’d definitely recommend this funny, heartwarming story! I received an early copy from Booksirens. My voluntary review is my own.
The Rocket's Red Glare by @kerryevelynbooks, part of the #starsstripesandhockeynights series is out and is ready to find its readers!
I loved the tenacious Taz trying to win over his girl. He is silly and goofy, but his growth is finally what gets her on the hook after SIX proposals! Maddie is the insecure heroine, but accomplished in her own right and terrified to lose herself in someone else's shadow. This story brings together a lot of characters from several of Kerry's series, so while prereading those (or any of the other SSAHN stories isn't required, superfans and faithful readers will really love to see their favorites pop in to Taz and Maddie's story. This one has LOTS of hockey too, maybe even the most of the other books in the series, so if you love that in your hockey romance, you are sure to be pleased. Taz and Maddie might be my favorite "friends who kiss" story (IYKYK)
Check it out!!
I received a copy without expectation of a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my final ARC in the ‘Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights’ MAP! This is the only book that I personally have read that reps a player from the East Team, so that was a weird change of pace from the other three I have read. Go Stripes!
Taz Houlihan is bound and determined to get his second chance with her! He will stop at nothing and now that he has fulfilled his end of the “marriage deal” he wants to collect! Earned his gold medal and wants Maddie Malone as his ultimate prize. He’s in DC to represent the East side as their captain and ready to show the country that he truly has arrived as one of the household names in the sport! Now all he has to do is get “his girl” to DC to prove to her, that he’s worthy of her as he now has an Olympic gold medal himself!
Maddie Malone for much of her adult life has had but one constant, Mack. Don’t worry this isn’t a love triangle story; Mack is her horse. This headstrong and independent woman has a mental checklist of all the things she wants to accomplish before opening herself to the idea of love again, whether it be to Taz or any other man for that matter. Maddie doesn’t want to hurt him, and she can only reject his marriage proposal so many times. How does one allow themselves to have romantic love but not lose sight of who they are at the same time, that’s the big question that comes up a lot over the course of this book.
This book is not only a second chance romance, but it gives a second chance to meet some of the characters from some of Kerry’s other books! Whether you have met them or not, maybe you will want to reread or add some new books to your TBR! It’s good to know that our protagonists have a good support system around them. I think one of my favorite parts that isn’t a main storyline spoiler would have to be when some of the supporting characters grabbed snacks after the parade…If you like hockey and found family, this book is right up your alley!
This is a clean hockey romance. It is part of a series called Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights. Each one written by a different author. It can be read as a stand-alone. However, it is more enjoyable reading all the books.
Taz is the captain of the West hockey team in DC for a tournament. He was chosen as he has received an Olympic gold medal. He sees his friend Maddie, who is has also received a gold medal but for an equestrian team. She is there in the parade. He has asked her many times to marry him, but she has turned him down every time. Any chance that will change?
This was a good story. I like reading these stories and how the players are falling in love. This one is about a lost love or basically unrequited love. This series is a must read and I have not read a bad book yet. Get the whole series!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love this series and the varied approaches each of the authors choose for their story. In this book both of the main characters are involved with the 250th birthday parade. Maddie, a gold metal winning Olympic equestrian, is there to ride in the 4th of July parade. Taz is a gold medal winning Olympic hockey player, who is representing his team and is Captain of the East hockey team. Taz has loved Maddie for more than eight years, and has proposed multiple times. Their love story continues as Taz convinces Maddie to stay past the parade and come to his games. The author balances very different personalities, very different career goals and concerns, a multitude of teammates, mutual friends, and of course, intense hockey training and games. The result is camaraderie, lifetime friendships, and love. An excellent book in a wonderful series.
This book had me laughing in the first chapter and continued throughout, the pranks again are crazy and funny, I wonder who is behind them. Taz is the best, sweetest guy and I wondered why Maddie has such a hard time moving him out of her friendzone. I loved the crossover characters from other books and how they interact. I loved the sweet comments that Taz made to Maddie, so swoony and heartwarming. Can she finally see him for who he is and how supportive he is of her and her goals? A couple of the quotes I liked. Maddie’s thought: ‘Maybe loving someone didn’t mean losing myself. Maybe it meant discovering my heart was bigger than the life I’d imagined for it.’ Swoony Taz’s comment: “Just…Let me keep choosing you. The way I’ll always choose you.” I loved reading this book, swoon, laughter, and HEA.
Taz and Maddie have the sweetest friends to lovers, second chance romance around!
I loved seeing both of these characters grow SO MUCH in their story. Maddie had to learn how to trust and rely on Taz, and Taz had to learn that he is still worthy and needed, no matter the outcome of the tournament.
I adored Maddie’s “watch horse” Mack. He definitely doesn’t let Taz get away with anything and is so protective of his horse girl.
Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and this story has it in abundance. From the team members, to the WAGs, and everyone in between there to support both teams in the tournament, Taz and Maddie are loved and cared for by the best.
This is the 9th of 13 books in the Stars, Stripes & Hockey Nights multi-author series about 2 all-star hockey teams playing a tournament in Washington DC to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the USA.
Thank you to the author and BookSirens for my gifted copy. All opinions are my own.
This book was so funny and delightful to read. Taz Houlihan is funny, caring, intentional, and so much more! I enjoyed his character so much. Maddie is sweet and supportive! Mack the horse was a main character in his own right, and he made sure he was known on the page! The Easter Egg referring to the real US Men's Hockey Team winning the 2026 Olympics was a great way to mark time in this book. It made me smile reading that part. This was a great book showing what it means to fight for the one's you love!
As an added applause, the fact that this series is 13 books by 13 authors and each book is so coherent to the rest of the series is amazing! All the authors did a fantastic job creating individual books that stand on their own but add so much to the overarching story. 10 out of 10 recommend this series!
I am just adoring this series! Taz and Maddie have been on and off again for years, I love that he never gives up on her. His persistence is beautiful, their friendship is perfect…. For them, anyway. Maddie grounds Taz, and Taz brings Maddie out of her shell when she needs it and lets her be when she needs it. Throw in three crazy goats we have met before in this series, a snarky horse, and a crazy hockey tournament, and you have the road to happily ever after. So many beautiful moments that are so so real, just the right amount of drama, and so so many cameos from Kerry’s other books. This book easily stands alone, but reading the series, and even Kerry’s earlier books, makes it that much better!
