The best books give you more than you bargained for. This book is one of those. Laurence's abridged work is an excellent resource on the imprecatory psalms, and on biblical theology more generally: it is beautifully written, exegetically sound, and doxologically rich. Every chapter is worth reading and re-reading, and the conclusion to the book (Questions and Answers) reviews and summarizes concisely the main points.
I love books that answer practical questions. In this book, Trevor Laurence takes on the imprecatory psalms, seeking to understand them not through a modern lens but through a biblical lens. What story were these writers living in? How can I inhabit that story and truly understand these prayers for justice and righteousness? I can’t commend this approach enough.
