Syneca Black should be dead. But with her last breath, the Phoenix witch makes a desperate bargain with a mysterious stranger for a price she still doesn't understand. She wakes in the Underworld alive, bound, and hunted. To repay the bargain that spared her life, Syneca must find a missing dragon before her debt comes due. Only Silas stands between her and the demon princes who want the stolen fire in her veins.
The more she lets herself trust the man who carried her into the Underworld, the harder it gets to tell where her distrust of him ends and everything else begins.
She isn't the only one running out of time. Lucette Varrow answers to the moon now, and whatever she becomes when it rises, she doesn't remember it. The only thing that ever breaks through is a dragon she shouldn't recognize, and can't stop needing.
Two women descended into different kinds of darkness. Only one may find her way back.
Blood and Promise was the debut new adult, high fantasy, fae novel for Miranda Lyn. She grew up smack dab in the middle of the United States with nothing to do but dream up stories of fantastical creatures and powerful heroines. Now married with three children of her own, an idea sparked a buried passion within her to follow a dream and teach her children that anything is possible if you’re willing to work hard for it.
OMG!!!!!!! Hide the Witches was such an amazing read, and after that INSANE ending I wasn't quite sure how Hunt the Dragons could possibly top it. Well, let me tell you, Miranda Lyn found a way.
4.5⭐️ 1🌶
What's inside: - Dragons - Witches, Demons, Sprites and more - Dual Storyline - Dual Romances - Multi-POV - Plot Twists - Slow Burn - Found Family - Hidden Powers - Secret Intentity - BANTER! - Other spoiler-y things I want to say but won't!!
Buckle up! This book does have a different rhythm and flow than HtW, but its no less amazing or engrossing. With two storylines and two romances, there is a lot that held my interest and had me turning rhe pages and dying to know what was going to happen.
First off, Syn is 100%, Grade-A Badass. PERIOD. The way she gets mistreated and used, yet always finds a way to come back better and stronger, while never losing her fire or hesitating to speak her mind, has helped her to become one of my favorite FMCs. Her journey and growth from the beginning of HtW to where she is at the end of Hunt the Dragons is an awesome ride.
Throw in the other characters, some new and some old (not giving details - READ THE BOOK!!) makes for a well-rounded cast of characters set in a world that lives and breathes on the page. I ate up the dual storylines and romances, and there are several characters that have me swooning and sat here dying for more!
Hunt the Dragons also brought us another amazing plot twist and ending that had me CHEERING and my jaw dropping, all at the same time. I can usually spot a plot twist but she got me with both of these books!
If you love romantasy books that don't give you the same old predictable stories that have been rinsed and repeated a thousand time over, you need to get your hands on this series! Miranda Lyn has quickly become an auto-read author for me and I am now going back to read her other books because this series has absolutely made me a fan.
Thank you to Miranda Lyn and her team for an eARC of Hunt the Dragons. I loved every minute of it!
WOW. Hunt the Dragons absolutely lived up to Hide the Witches.
After THAT insane ending, this picks right back up and does not let you breathe. It definitely has a different feel than the first book, but the intensity and energy are still very much there.
We have two stories happening simultaneously, and I spent the entire book racing through the pages waiting for them to finally converge. Meanwhile, Miranda is casually expanding the world, throwing new characters at us, giving us mysteries to unravel and apparently uncovering mysteries I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I was supposed to be unraveling.
Also, apparently I have a new thing for demons?? I'm looking at you, Dez. 👀
And then we get to the end.
Excuse me?!?!
My mind was BLOWN. Should I have seen some of it coming? Maybe. Did I? Absolutely not. 😂 Every time I thought we had reached the big revelation, there was MORE.
Miranda Lyn is quickly becoming an author I don't trust with the last 10% of a book...and I mean that as the highest compliment.
Thank you to the author Miranda Lyn & her team for this arc read.
DNF 58% *mild spoilers*
I’m shocked at myself with how disappointed I am with this sequel; especially considering how much I loved book 1 (to me it was perfect.) this started off so promising but then loses the momentum fairly quickly.
This picks up right where we leave off & we’re back with that familiar writing style of the short/choppy sentence structure, which I personally love but I get it’s not for every reader. Right away, this book has a different feel to it, a different tone; a different approach to the storytelling. The pace is more slow & steady. There’s multi POV’s. We’re in a new setting, which means expanding the world farther. We get a few new characters. Everyone’s traveling a lot. The MMC is-if you finished book 1 then you know-completely different this time. I think all the elements on their own are awesome but put together the way it is, the story just failed to keep my interest.
The FMC is understandably, knowing all that we know, giving feminine rage. & it worked in the beginning. Her anger is hot & wild in the best way. But eventually all that anger was just resulting in childish behavior & dumb choices. She’s surrounded by enablers. When does her growth start I wonder.
The MMC started off delicious. Yes I hate the bait & switch (don’t get me started on how it’s approached in this series😒😒😒) but still, he is just so good with the yearning! Their banter & tension starts off with a bang considering their history. & the underlying humor is scrumptious! But eventually, they start spinning in circles with the petty arguments & stubbornness & ridiculous antics. The repetition is distracting.
I didn’t finish but this book feels too long already. Way too much time spent of their nonsense & on an aimless plot. The plot overall is just exhausting; it moves forward a teaspoon per day. They’re going from place to place but there’s barely any progress. Like really, what is actually happening? I think this is a good example of when an author expands their world farther but that could also bring forth the book’s current/present events becoming messy/confusing & hard to follow. Which also leads to the pacing being so incredibly uneven & slow.
I do love the new POV to a character I loved last book. Her story has much more gravitas than the main leads.
By the halfway mark, I lost my patience. This is just boring at this point. But I see arc readers loving it so I think if book 1 was your vibe then you’ll love book 2 if you prefer a slower paced subsequent book with feminine rage & plenty, plenty of dragons.

4.5⭐️
i absolutely love miranda’s story telling!! i love that the world building was expanded even more in this book. the underworld reminded me very much of angelthene in the house of devils series!!
lucy stole the show for me in this book. i absolutely loved getting her pov and seeing her character develop. miranda did an amazing job of weaving hers and syneca’s storylines together.
the magic system was incredible and so unique. i love the found family and the introduction of new characters which added another layer of depth to story. dez and emrys are deffo some of my faves 🥹
pipppppp my little shayla i love her so much!!
the tension between two of the couples were CHEFS KISSSSS and i loved seeing their relationships develop. I LOVE THEMMMM.
i did find however that one character’s arc was concluded very quickly and i feel like this could have been developed more and given proper closure.
i’m still left with so many questions after that ending and i cannot wait for book 3!!!
some of my fave quotes:
”the absence of him was its own kind of pain, sharp and internal in a way the collar never managed to be.”
“one true thing. i despise being cold. the fire you keep throwing at me is the warmest i’ve been in longer than you’ve been alive.”
“she might’ve been wildfire, but i was the monster that chose to burn with her.”
“i’m not asking for forever all at once, beautiful beast. just this moment. and then the next.”
“if i let myself have you,” he said quietly, “and i lose you, there’s no version of me that recovers from it.”
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via the author)
4.5 stars
First off, I Miranda's recaps are my absolute favorite. I really grew to love the additions to the characters in this story. Pip with the grimmies is 100% me every time I see a cat. Love a good fuck it moment. I enjoyed the two different storylines and how things wove together. Miranda once again got me good with the ending I didn't see coming and I cannot wait for more!!
Thank you to Miranda Lyn for the advanced copy of Hunt The Dragons!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! I didn’t think it was possible to love Hunt The Dragons even more than Hide the Witches but I did. It was such an incredible story that I devoured! I didn’t want to put it down.
Miranda took a jaw-dropping story ending in Hide the Witches and made it even more addicting. How is that even possible you ask? The mystery element, the dual plot lines, the new worlds, a story that had me thinking of demons in the underworld fondly, the tension, and the yearning: It was a lethal combination that had me turning page after page because I just couldn’t stop.
Darkly whimsical worlds, laugh out loud moments to cut the tension, and an ending that leaves you with questions and have you immediately wanting to reread.
This is one of my favorite reads of the year. Most definitely pick it up. I loved it so much!
Unfortunately, Hunt the Dragon really didn’t work for me.
My biggest issue was the pacing. For roughly the first 80% of the book, I constantly felt like I was waiting for the actual story to begin. There were hundreds of pages that could easily have been condensed into maybe a hundred without losing anything important. Lucy’s storyline in particular felt incredibly drawn out and, for most of the book, simply boring. There was so much setup, wandering around and waiting, but very little that actually moved the characters or the plot forward.
What bothered me even more, though, were some of the character and emotional choices.
Syn basically died. The man she trusted and had a romantic relationship with tried to kill her. That should be an enormous trauma, yet the book barely deals with it. There is almost no meaningful exploration of what happened to her, how it changed her ability to trust people or how she feels about relationships afterwards. For something that dramatic, the emotional aftermath felt strangely absent.
Then there is Silas…
I actually like a possessive MMC when it fits the character and the relationship, so Silas being protective or possessive was not the problem in itself. What bothered me was that some genuinely invasive things were introduced and then simply never properly addressed.
Silas had watched Syn for years while she believed he was only an animal. That includes extremely private moments, even situations where she was changing clothes. When she first realizes this, she is understandably disturbed by it. And then, somehow, the issue just disappears. There is no real confrontation, no meaningful discussion of the fact that he knew exactly what he was doing while she did not know who or what he really was, and no proper emotional resolution. She just seems to accept it.
For me, that actually weakened their romance rather than making their bond feel deeper. The reveal completely changed the context of their previous relationship, but the book never really allowed Syn to process what that meant.
The same problem exists with the bargain Silas makes with her. The terms give him an enormous amount of power over her and potentially allow him to force her to do things she does not want to do. Again, this initially feels significant, but it is ultimately brushed aside because he protected her. Protection does not automatically erase the fact that the bargain itself is coercive, and I wanted the book to engage with that tension instead of simply expecting Syn, and the reader, to accept it.
There is a recurring pattern here: the story introduces situations that should create real emotional conflict, especially for Syn, but then skips the actual processing. Her death and betrayal, Silas secretly watching her for years, the invasive nature of that revelation, the bargain and the imbalance of power it creates — all of these could have led to genuinely interesting character development. Those conflicts could also have created exactly the kind of romantic tension the book was missing — sharp banter, arguments, moments of vulnerability, genuine push-and-pull, or even small intimate scenes that would have allowed their relationship to develop naturally. Instead, most of that potential is introduced and then simply left unused.
And despite all the buildup around Sin and Silas, their romantic development is surprisingly limited. There are essentially only a couple of kisses. Considering how much of the book revolves around their connection and how long the story spends building toward it, the payoff felt very underwhelming.
I had similar problems with Lucy and Riot. Their dynamic felt completely different from the first book. Riot himself barely felt like the same character. For most of the story, he seems to do little more than wait around for Lucy, and I never really understood why his personality and agency had been reduced so drastically. Their relationship consequently felt oddly disconnected from what had been established before. I just didn‘t feel them at all.
The frustrating thing is that the final part of the book was actually quite enjoyable. Once the plot finally started moving, I could see the story I had hoped to get much earlier. But a strong final 15–20% simply wasn’t enough to compensate for hundreds of pages of slow pacing, questionable character choices and emotional conflicts that were introduced but never properly explored.
There were interesting ideas here, but the execution felt strangely uneven. The book spends enormous amounts of time on things that ultimately do not matter very much, while rushing past exactly the emotional consequences, boundary issues and relationship developments that I actually wanted to read about.
Sadly, this was a significant disappointment for me after the first book.
One true thing… I’m obsessed with every part of this series Okay, so I’ve been sitting on this review for awhile and it’s finally time to share how much of an absolute chokehold this series has on me. This series is CRIMINALLY underrated and I need EVERYONE to read it. Both books 1&2 are hands down my top reads of 2026… and I’ve read over 150 books this year.
This book had me in a chokehold the for the ENTIRETY of the book. From the vulnerability and character development, to the found family moments… I could NOT put it down. I absolutely loved Lucy’s POV and her journey, I was rooting so hard for her throughout the entire book. And the TRAIN CAR… HOT RIOT (IYKYK). The absolute range of feminine rage in this book was calling to my soul. Syn is my spirit animal and I am obsessed with her character. Pip is forever my favorite - she is a such a badass packed in a small package. Treasure her always. She’s perceptive, protective, fierce, loyal, and loves deeply. Listen, I’ve always wanted to have shadow powers but I think Scrivener magic is my new favorite form of magic. I absolutely LOVED the new characters introduced, they were the best additions to the plot. Miranda SLAYS at internal dialogue, I felt like I was these characters. I cried MULTIPLE times. I screamed, I gasped, I swooned… I just can’t get over this series.
If you’re looking for a story about overcoming making yourself small and suppressing your nature, and then finding your inner baddie and power… you need to immediately stop what you’re doing and pick these books up. I am literally FERAL for the next book. It’s one that I will stop everything that I’m doing and immediately devour.

Miranda Lyn is officially becoming the plot twist queen. After the ending of Hide the Witches, I genuinely thought there was no way Hunt the Dragons could surprise me on that level again.
I was wrong.
This book took everything I loved about the first one and expanded the world even more. I loved meeting the new characters, getting pulled deeper into the different storylines, and watching everything start to connect. And that ending?! Miranda Lyn got me AGAIN.
I’m not saying anything else because this is absolutely one of those books you need to experience without spoilers.
Just go read it. Seriously.
I loved this book and already need whatever comes next.
I laughed. I cried. And I mean full-blown tears streaming down my face—which takes A LOT for a book to get out of me. The emotional moments in Hunt the Dragons hit so freaking hard, and at this point I am way too attached to these characters.
I LOVED the three POVs—Syneca, the MMC, and Lucy—and the way two storylines unfold simultaneously before beginning to converge. Neither ever felt like the “side” story; I was equally invested in both. Every POV switch left me desperate for more, which made me absolutely fly through this book.
Getting the MMC’s POV added SO much depth, especially to his connection with Syneca. I’m keeping that man’s name OUT of this review because if you haven’t read Hide the Witches, I refuse to be the one who spoils anything. 😂
And LUCY!!! I loved getting her POV and seeing her take on such an important role in this story. Her chapters brought their own mystery, tension, and emotion, and she has my whole freaking heart.
But the found family really got me. Pip and Calder continue to bring me SO much joy, and I loved the new characters added to the mix. The banter, personalities, loyalty, and little moments of chaos brought so much lightness to a story that also gets incredibly emotional. This group just keeps getting better, and I want to protect every single one of them.
Miranda managed to have me laughing one minute and then full bowl crying the next. RUDE.
There’s so much happening—dragons, magic, danger, mystery, romance—but the characters and their relationships remain the heart of this series, and that’s what made this such an easy five stars for me.
AND THEN THAT FUCKING CLIFFHANGER?! AGAIN?! MIRANDA. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! We have all that information and emotional damage, along with this power and you just decide to throw us off the cliff and say "hope you survive" ... I AM NOT surviving until I get book three and all my questions get answered!
Five stars. Syneca forever. Lucy supremacy. Pip and Calder forever. Found family perfection. Actual tears down my face. And another ending that has left me EMOTIONALLY UNWELL.
This one is hard because I LOVED "Hide the Witches." I loved the found family, the plot, the twists, and I was SO excited to get into *Hunt the Dragons*. Unfortunately, something about this one just fell completely flat for me.
I was especially excited for the romance because I thought Book 2 was finally going to give us more of it, and instead I spent most of the book wondering what these two even liked about each other. They gave me NOTHING. It was stubbornness and brattiness and arguing with absolutely no softening toward each other until suddenly, near the very end, we were supposed to believe there were deeper feelings there. I needed the little moments. The vulnerability. The tension that actually turns into tenderness. SOMETHING. Instead, the shift felt like it came out of nowhere.
We do get a second couple, and while their bond made their relationship feel rushed in its own way, I somehow enjoyed their romance more because at least THEY WERE GIVING ME ROMANCE. I was getting something besides the nonsense happening with the main couple.
And then there's the plot—or lack thereof.
Book 1 had reveals and twists that kept me hooked. Book 2 felt like 90% breadcrumbs with very little payoff. By the time we finally started getting actual reveals around the 92% mark, I didn't even care anymore. It's also really hard for me to feel any sense of urgency about a villain who is essentially nowhere to be seen for almost the entire book.
There were entire sections that DRAGGED. So much hanging around, waiting, talking, and wasting time, which is one of my biggest pet peeves in fantasy. At one point, around 77%, everyone goes to a sporting event FOR FUN and I genuinely had to stop and ask myself: aren't these people being hunted??? But apparently we can glamour ourselves, so sure, let's go watch the equivalent of Quidditch😭
It took me almost two weeks to finish this because I was just so bored.
Will I ever read this book again? No. Will I still read Book 3? Yes. 😂
Because that final chapter FINALLY gave me the feeling I loved so much in Book 1. It reminded me why I cared about this story in the first place, and now I do want to know what happens next and how everything ends.
It just sucks that I had to push through 98% of the book to finally enjoy the last 2%.
I loved this book! Hide the Witches was already one of my favorite reads of 2026 and this sequel surpassed it in my opinion. I'll admit at first I wasn't so sure I was going to like it as much as the first one because it is so different but the more I read, the more I fell in love with this book. Again, it does feel very different than the first book. There are new points of view, new characters, new settings and locations, and the plot goes in a direction that I wasn't expecting but all of that added together to create a book that me questioning if I have a new book to add to my all time favorite books list, it was that good. I love how the story expands and I am always a sucker for any series that has a good found family in it. This is the kind of book where as soon as I finished it, I immediately want to reread it. I cannot wait to read the next book!
Thank you so much Miranda Lyn for providing me with an earc to review in advance!
Since reading Hide The Witches I've been eagerly awaiting to get Hunt The Dragons in my hands! Hunt The Dragons has multiple POV from Syneca our FMC, Silas, Lucy and Lyric!
We follow the story from which it left off; a great betrayal which ends in a bargain. Syneca is brought to the Underworld and is faced with a new reality and mission! In this book there are so many twists and turns; but it all interconnected which I thought was absolutely brilliant!
If you are a fan of betrayal, tension, found family, prophecies, and bonds of epic proportions this is a must read for you!
Hunt The Dragons would also be suitable for people who love dragons, shifters, witches, sprites, lycans, nymphs and other mythical, magical beings!
I cannot wait to see what comes next because I have a million questions and theories that I need answers too!
Holy sh* when i tell you i literally did not put THIS down, i mean it i devoured this in less than 24 hours. this was by far one of my favorite reads of the entire year and it had me completely in my feels from beginning to end. the emotional depth of every single character was so incredible that i found myself genuinely attached to all of them. the way each of their stories was layered and tied together so beautifully had me in awe. but i am rooting for silas he has my heart 100%. the multiple POVs gave each character such richness and watching two completely different storylines unfold simultaneously kept me so invested throughout. both FMCs are baddies and i love how they’re both fierce and strong in their own ways. with all the twists and turns leading up to that final moment had my heart genuinely aching and crying! however the ending had me all riled up with so many questions!! i cannot even pick a favorite character because every single one earned their place in this story. i am fully locked in with the plot, i can’t wait to see how everything unfolds!!
Holy Cannoli! Miranda served again! I don't know what she puts into these stories, but they are chef's kiss!
So if you haven't read book 1 yet stop reading this review because *spoilers*
After the ending of hide the witches I needed this book asap! But as we know with series, some mysteries get solved, but more mysteries and plottwists are created as well :)
This time we followed three POV. Of course Syneca Black who has been revealed as the Phoenix. Silas her griffin, turned demon, or demon turned griffin hahaha and Lucy who turned into a dragon in book 1 and went off to have her own adventure!
I just love the worldbuilding, the pacing, it's never boring, the relationships, and of course we love PIP!
I just love how all these POV's eventually all came back together. And then that ending, wow wow wow and 100x wow I def did not see that coming. I don't know how you keep track of all the twists and secrets but you do it so well! We need book 3 now Miranda!!
4.5 rounded up. This is an amazing follow up to Hide the Witches! This is a fast paced action packed read. I really enjoy Miranda Lyn’s writing style so much. She is great at world building with an intense plot line that has enough twists to keep you reading. The banter in this book was awesome. I was completely engaged every time I picked up the book. My only complaint is I have a lot of open ended questions but I hope that it is done purposefully by Miranda so that everyone is feral for the next book. Also Miranda may be the queen of cliffhangers. This has a killer ending that will make you throw your kindle. I can’t wait to read the next one. Thanks to the author for gifting the review copy and subsequent book hangover.
Yaaasss! This. This was everything I wanted and I need more immediately. The first book walked so this book could soar. We had dragons, demons, witches, sprites all wrapped up into the best found family. All the characters are fascinating in their own right and all have a purpose and motives. And the BANTER! Dead. It was top tier banter and humour that had me kicking my feet and giggling the whole time. This is definitely on my list for top books of the year.
Okay I’m not sure why I’m left baffled after the ending of Hide The Witches but HERE WE ARE.
Thank you so much for Miranda & team for this eARC! I’ve been anticipating and thinking about it since I finished HTW and it did NOT disappoint. New character POVs add so much to this already intricate story and the world building was phenomenal.
The TENSION & YEARNING from our MMC kept me up way past my bedtime while simultaneously attempting to drag it out because I just KNEW in true Miranda fashion we were in for a diabolical ending. It is worth the ride!
Hide The Dragons is out 9.21 & I cannot wait for it to be in everyone’s hands!
Thank you so much to the the author for this eARC!
I absolutely LOVED Hide the Witches and Hunt the Dragons took the story to the next level.
This time we follow two main POVs. Syn and Lucy. And both stories were amazing. Not only getting a chance to see more from Lucy’s POV, but also learning more about Syn’s past. The world building was immense and continued to create more mystery around this world of furies and demons.
The love interests in this book had all the yearning. I loved every moment of it! I won’t say too much to avoid spoilers, but, I was rooting for those couples. Their chemistry and deep love was felt.
I cannot wait for the next book! This is quickly turning into a new favorite series.
It took about halfway through for this to really get moving but this was an excellent follow-up to Hide the Witches. We get 3 POV’s here and I love the addition of Lucy because I am living for Lucy and Riot.
Shout out to our supporting cast of characters Pip, Calder, Dez, Emrys; love them.
But onto why we’re really here…
Me after every time Syneca and Silas started arguing: Ok, now kiss… please?
I looove the push and pull of these two. That scene where Silas is abs seething with jealousy when Dez pulls energy from Syneca - I love a possessive and feral MMC.
The last 20% of this books had be hooked. I could not put it down and the ending was both devastating and satisfying - the very last page when Syn does her thing had me saying yesssss girl.
There is something about Miranda’s writing that completely consumes me. I started the final stretch of Hunt the Dragons late at night knowing I wanted to finish it, and the next thing I knew it was 1:10am 🙈 because I had been flipping through pages so quickly trying to figure out what was happening.
The biggest compliment I can give Miranda’s writing is that her books never feel like a chore to read. I never reached page 400 or 500 and thought, oh my God can we please get to the point already?! Her writing is incredibly immersive and beautiful, and there is always something pulling you into the next chapter.
What’s fascinating about this is that somehow everything is happening and nothing is happening at the exact same time. We spend most of the book following two separate POVs and two seemingly separate mysteries. Lucy is trapped in an isolated city, forced to shift into a dragon every night by a mysterious collar while losing pieces of her memory and trying to understand who and what she really is. Meanwhile, Syn is navigating the Underworld with Silas, Calder, Pip and a cast of demons while trying to fulfill a deadly bargain and find a dragon who hasn’t been seen in more than a century.
Both storylines constantly move. We’re getting new lore, new locations, new characters, mysteries, action, romance, clues and revelations. Yet I hit the 500 page mark and realized that our characters were still separated and the larger story hadn’t progressed nearly as far as I expected. And somehow I didn’t care because I was completely invested in figuring it all out.
Then Miranda finally starts bringing those storylines together, and suddenly you realize just how many of the tiny details she’s been planting throughout 600 pages actually connect. That’s something I loved about Hide the Witches, and she does it again here. Miranda trusts her readers enough to give us pieces of information without immediately explaining why they matter. You can theorize and connect some of the dots yourself, but there is always another layer you didn’t see coming.
I also loved Syn’s character development in this book. After everything that happened with Wickett, she enters this story angry, grieving and understandably struggling to trust anyone. Then she discovers that Silas the one constant she believed had always been completely safe has been keeping an enormous secret from her for years. Their relationship became one of my favorite parts of the book because there is so much history underneath it. Silas has known Syn for years. He’s protected her, watched her grow, seen every version of her and quietly fallen in love with her long before she ever realized who he actually was. Their story becomes less about whether they have feelings for each other and more about what happens when love collides with duty, magic and the bond connecting them.
Lucy and Riot’s relationship worked a little less for me. I genuinely love them together, and I loved getting Riot as a much bigger character after Hide the Witches. I also really enjoyed their spice 🌶️👀 But their romantic relationship developed incredibly quickly, especially compared to the amount of buildup we get with Syn and Silas. The mates element explains that connection within the magic system, but I still would’ve loved more time watching them actually fall for one another before their relationship progressed as far as it did.
Lucy herself, though, was one of my favorite parts of this book. Her storyline surrounding her identity, missing memories, dragon shifting and the mystery of the hidden city gave us an entirely different perspective on this world. Learning more about where she came from only created even more questions about what dragons actually are and how much of the history we’ve been told is true.
The final stretch is where Miranda finally takes all of those seemingly separate threads and starts smashing them together. Mysteries we’ve been following for hundreds of pages finally connect to characters and information we’ve had in front of us the entire time.
I do wish Wickett’s storyline had received a little more payoff. After the emotional devastation of his betrayal in Hide the Witches, I expected his eventual confrontation with Syn to carry more weight. I’m glad we got closure there, but considering how important he was to Syn’s story, his ending felt surprisingly quick.
And while Hunt the Dragons leaves us with A LOT of unanswered questions, it didn’t have quite the same cliffhanger that Hide the Witches did for me. That’s ultimately why i gave this 4.5 stars instead of five. But I am ridiculously invested in this series.
I can’t WAIT for April 💚
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Miranda Lyn continues to know exactly how to get me. Give me YEARNING. Give me "I will burn the entire world down for you." Give me a man who is absolutely, completely, devastatingly gone for his woman. And apparently now give me TWO of them because why settle for one??? Literally why can't I have this in real life?
One of my favorite things about this series is that the relationships never feel like they're happening in a bubble. Yes, I am absolutely here for the romance, and the yearning in this one was SO GOOD, but I really really really love when the found family and supporting characters get their own development too. I want to care about everybody. I want side characters who don't just exist to move the MCs from Point A to Point B. I want their friendships, their relationships, their histories, their heartbreak, their absolutely questionable decision making... Thank you Miranda for delivering on this in both books so far.
There is so much wanting in this book. So much restraint. So much history and pain and loyalty tangled up together. That delicious kind of love where someone would destroy absolutely everything to protect the person they love but also desperately wants that person to choose them. Catnip. Absolute catnip.
And of course, THE BANTER. These characters can be dealing with demons, death, ancient magic, bargains, trauma, and the possible destruction of basically everything... and someone is still going to say something completely unhinged. The comedic timing is immaculate. I feel like I process hard things in a very similar way, but throwing in a funny moment to lighten it.
My only slight deductions were for pacing and just how MUCH is happening here. There is a LOT of world building in this book. New mythology, characters, creatures, magic, history, rules, places.... It's a lot so you gotta keep up. 😂 Some of the plot gets complicated enough that it can be a little hard to follow, and I think tightening the pacing in a few places would have helped. HOWEVER, I also have a very strong feeling we're doing all of this setup because Miranda is preparing to emotionally destroy us in the next book. Here I am... now patiently waiting for the next one to drop.

Quotes That Got Me
"You’re not at all useless."
"The protection was real. The loyalty was real."
"You should." "I know."
"One anchor, one center of gravity, one point from which all of the rest of your existence hangs."
As always, thanks to Miranda and her team for the eARC in exchange for my honest review and opportunity to return to this world just a little sooner. Raising my hand early for the next one!
You know how I said that Hide the Witches was a story you had to let cook? Well the plot hath boiled over in Hunt the Dragons and all you can really do is hold on for the ride 🎢
It’s so hard to write a review about this series without spoilers but I’m going to try my best. Honestly this is the type of story that’s best if you go in blind. Miranda is weaving an intricate masterpiece here and it slaps the hardest when you don’t know what’s coming.
This book picks up right after the plot twist to end all plot twists at the end of HTW. Syneca has been betrayed. Her found family is scattered in the wind. Her safe place gone. The first quarter of this book was so heartbreaking. I just kept waiting for Syneca to crumble but every time she stood tall and let rage and anger guide her.
I typically feel like I can tell where a story is going but with this one I had absolutely no clue. It felt like every chapter something unexpected lurked around every corner. There are multi POVs, multiple storylines within storylines and yet somehow it all worked and my mind totally blown 🤯
And let’s not forget the slow burn, angsty tension and yearning happening throughout most of this book. I lost count of the number of times I muttered to myself “just kiss already!” The atmosphere surrounding our MCs was thick enough to cut with a knife. It was oh so steamy and delicious 😮💨
So yeah…lock in, enjoy the ride and if you find yourself staring at the wall afterwards in dumbfounded shock don’t worry. You aren’t alone.
What’s inside: - witches, dragons, demons oh my - multi POVs - secret identities - found family - all the banter - magical mysteries - slow burn - so much angst & yearning
“there will always be me choosing you. in every life, in every world, with every piece of my soul i have left to give. you were never something i was forced to love. you’re the only thing i’ve ever chosen.”

i was so excited for this book after the ending of book one, and it did not disappoint. this series has proven to stand out on its own in the romantasy genre. it feels so unique and fresh, while still including all the things that captivate me and make me love this genre.
i absolutely loved following both syneca and lucy’s stories and watching them intertwine. both of them had such good character progression and their own paths they needed to follow. to not have one, but two badass fmcs? love. oh, and two separate love stories i get to watch unravel? it’s like a reward.
silas this book omgg. i’m so obsessed with him. both him and riot have been added to the book bf list immediately. the yearning and tension were off the charts.
i loved the new characters we got to see in this book. dez, lore & ramiel were perfect editions to the found family we’ve been building. also, i of course have to share my love for pip once again cuz she’s one of my favs!!
i did not see that ending coming, omg. not only was that SO badass, but i’m foaming at the mouth waiting for the next book.
a huge thank you to miranda and her team for sending me an e-arc! this was the perfect read for spooky season. ♥︎
ARC Review Pub date: September 21, 2026 Hunt the Dragons
Miranda Lyn has done it again! I am completely blown away after finishing Hunt the Dragons last night. I loved Hide the Witches, but I loved this one even more!
The story picks up right where Hide the Witches left off. I can’t say too much without spoiling the first book, but the betrayal at the end of book one is still fresh.
Miranda’s writing is so addictive and beautifully done. This book had me feeling every single emotion. I was genuinely stressed during the end and was holding my breath.
The romance, tension, and banter were perfection, but the found family continues to be my favorite part. I found myself laughing so many times throughout the book. I just adore these characters.
The plot was so intriguing, and the mystery pulled me in once again. There were twists I didn’t see coming, and I loved watching the story come together.
This is the kind of book that makes you want to immediately read it again the moment you finish because you’re not ready to move on.
Thank you so much Miranda for the eARC of Hunt the Dragons. I loved every single moment.
Please do yourself a favor and check out this incredible series!
I rated this 3. I didn't enjoy the lucy chapters and felt that, and the romance with riot, took away from the tension and romance of the main characters. I do like the other characters who popped up, and especially enjoyed pip being amongst it still. I found wicket, being a main mmc in book 1, to literally nothing in book 2 a strange thing, he haunted the narrative but in a way that when she did see him again, the two times, it was over within a sentence or two. Very much luck luster. Disappointed.
I will read next book, hopefully less Lucy as main because again, no. She wasn't even a big side character in the first book, and somehow has become something that somewhat shouldered her way in to try become the main fmc. I like our actual main fmc, and would prefer to keep that.
So yeah, 3 stars, Lucy overtaking the spotlight for so many chapters was irritating to me. Others will appreciate I'm sure though.
Wicket being a villain however is seen twice and dealt with so easily and his ending wasn't anything grand, kind of made his whole story pointless.
The fmc was angry at si for far too long for the build up of tension, but it got silly, because she held onto her hate far longer than was reasonable. She is, was, smarter than that, in the first book.
The ending did open up for book 3 nicely, albeit, Lucy being Lucy, did something stupid af. I will pick up book 3 happily, fingers crossed we focus on the right characters this time though.
Y’all - I thought Hide the Witches was the best fantasy I’d read this year, but Hunt the Dragons (Hide the Witches Book 2) just walked in and said “oh yeah? Hold my beer.” 🤯
I don’t know what kind of spells Miranda wove into her story, but I could not put this down! After the absolutely WILD plot twists and cliffhanger at the end of Hide the Witches, it was so exciting to jump back into the story right where it left off.
I ADORED that the book started with a recap, and this book incorporated a new FMC’s POV, in addition to Syneca’s. And while Syn continues to be the absolute badass that she is, I very much enjoyed getting Lucy’s story. I just love her!
There were a couple of bait and switch moments, though not as mind-blowing as the first book. And in this book, there was a lot more emotional depth between the characters, both old and new.
There were mysteries we finally solved from Book One and new ones introduced setting us up for Book 3. As long as Silas doesn’t pull a Wickett (IYKYK), this series is set up to go down as my favorite fantasy trilogy of all time!
If you haven’t read this yet, what are you waiting for?! 🫶🏻
Book 1 was just the set up for the absolutely crazy storylines that appear in Hunt the Dragons. I absolutely loved how everything shifts to a the bigger picture (and after finishing this I’m sure there’s an even bigger picture) and really drives the plot quickly. I loved Lucy’s storyline and you’re screaming the whole time just wanting her to be safe but also how CLOSE the two storylines are and they don’t converge until the VERY end. I loved that we DONT get wicketts pov this book because fuck him.
I absolutely love Silas and Synecas romance and his yearning is top tier because this is the slowest of slow burns that is 7 years in the making. It doesn’t happen all at once and it also doesn’t come out of nowhere (which is how I felt about wickett and now we know why that romance was dead on arrival) and his devotion to keeping her safe is just 🤌🏼.
If this series isn't picked up for traditional publishing it's because publishers aren't paying attention! Hide the Witches is my favorite series from Miranda Lyn. Hunt the Dragons expands the story with additional POVs and an expanded world where the stakes couldn't be higher. I don't know how I'm supposed to continue to exist without immediately having Book #3 in my hands. If you are a romantasy reader and you haven't picked up Hide the Witches yet you need to start this amazing journey. This series is so good! Thank you to Miranda Lyn and her team for this eARC - I loved this one just as much as Book 1!
