A Clever, Funny Mystery That Kept Me Guessing
Hotel Murder Club was a pleasant surprise. What starts as a cozy mystery set in a hotel quickly develops into a clever whodunit with genuine emotional depth. The hotel itself feels like a character, filled with colorful guests, quirky employees, hidden secrets, and enough unexpected twists to keep the pages turning.

Sam is an engaging protagonist, and her determination to uncover the truth behind her mother's suspicious death gives the story real heart. The relationship with her father and the family tension add emotional weight without slowing the mystery.

The Wellers strike an impressive balance between humor and suspense. Rachel (Sami's promiscuous friend) and Kimi provide plenty of laughs, Nick is wonderfully frustrating, and the supporting cast all contribute something meaningful to the investigation rather than simply filling space. The pharmaceutical company angle adds a contemporary sense of danger that feels believable without becoming heavy-handed.

I especially enjoyed the steady stream of clues woven throughout the story. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist sent me in a different direction. The atmosphere reminded me a little of Knives Out, with its eccentric characters, sharp humor, and layered mystery, while still maintaining its own unique personality.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries with memorable characters, plenty of laughs, an engaging amateur investigation, and a satisfying conclusion, Hotel Murder Club is well worth your time. Stephen and Mary Weller have created a series I'd be happy to continue reading.

Let me preface this and say I get 100% that this is an indie author.

But I felt like I was reading a bunch of Scooby doo tweens trying to solve a mystery. The dialogue felt super chaotic to me. Perhaps that was what the author intended but these characters are not talking to each other like grown adults with jobs they are talking to each other like a bunch of teenagers that got slapped in a house together. I also wish we would have gotten a bit more info about the twist at the end because why do we go from this guy killing her mother to now he wants to recruited her? Like what? Can we get some sort of explanation why he is her biggest fan? When did it start? Why did it start? How is he tied to big pharmaceutical to the point he killed her mom over experimental drugs? So many unanswered questions and DO NOT get me wrong. It’s okay and sometimes even preferred that some ends are left loose to let the reader wonder and ponder. It keeps people talking about the book but your literal twist is this weird agent that doesn’t show up until the end of the book is likely her mothers killer he himself states he is our MCs biggest fan… and then DOES NOT EXPAND FURTHER!? okay… all in all it wasn’t a terrible book but it could be cleaned up a bit in terms of the way the book is written. Just so conversations and scenes feel like they flow better together. And let’s do a better job of answering more questions.

Holy cow! What an ending and what an amazing open-ended twist! I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series. So many unanswered questions and interesting characters. This was a quick and entertaining read and now I want to be recruited into the HMC…well maybe…can’t wait to see what happens in book two!
