The book The Holocaust Overview; written by Ann Byers, was meant to help give a person an understanding of what happened before World War Two to cause the actions of the Germans as well the play by play of the events during the war this time period was January 30th, 1933 when Hitler became chancellor of Germany to November 20th, 1945 when the war criminal trials begin at Nuremberg before an international tribunal. As well in this book we can see some dramatic steps taken by Hitler to gain the respect he needed to carry out what he wanted.
In this book we can see the author describe these experiences of the war with dates to help relay the time of these actions down to first hand encounters that she has quoted. The first instance where she defines a first hand experience on the war was on page thirteen when the author helps describe a name of a book made in Germany which helped offend the Jews to put them down to feel as a lower race than others. Anna then gives an example of German corruption from the book when the Nazi party took control of the government and decided to burn all books that were not German on page 34. We then can see again that the Germans were in dead corrupt when Hitler decided to burn down The Reichstag which was one of Germany’s main government buildings just to gain popularity of the politics to show that there are people out to get them.(Page 39) The cruelty to the Jews was then shown even worse in the book was shown on page 45 when a first hand experience is stating how a German soldier was forcing a Jewish man to sweep the pavement as he walked by.
Now that you have just a little understanding of Hitler’s wicked mind during World War Two thanks to The Holocaust Overview no one would wanted to have lived in Europe during that time no matter if you were a German, Jew, or on the opposing side of the war.

So much important information to take in about the holocaust. This was truly such a horrendous and tragic time in our history. This book does very well at giving you so much information in chronological order. I feel like it really gives you a perspective on what it would be like to be living in this time.

Another book that's part of "The Holocaust Remembered Series" that provides good synopsis of German history, specifically the events that lead to the Holocaust. Reading this as a "refresh" in preparation for an upcoming trip to Germany.
