Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").

Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.

A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.

I tried this a few times. I have found that devotions that are based on excerpts of a person’s work often have a cobbled together effect that doesn’t really work for me. It creates a sense of discontinuity. I struggled with some of the devotions in this book, but I have to ask myself did Tozer really say that, or has he been taken out of context?

This may be a useful devotional to introduce someone to Tozer's teachings, (even though "In Pursuit of God" is the best place to start), however, I found it a little too simplistic and light.

Each day is comprised of a verse, an accompanying short reflection and a short prayer. Almost all of the devotionals were less than a page in length.

I don't expect I will refer back to it in the future.

I was introduced to Tozer by a good friend while attending Bible College, and, to be completely honest, when I feel some "personal declension" setting in like Octavius Winslow talks about in his book by the same title, Tozer is one of the guys I turn to (along with Leonard Ravenhill and George Mueller) to help re-ignite my passion for the glory of God. The compilers of this devotional book make sure to tell all the readers at the outset of the book that Tozer would not want them to substitute this devotional for in-depth personal Bible study. Rather, Tozer would want you to use these daily devotionals as a "primer" to deeper Bible Study, prayer, and application of the Word. I highly recommend this devotional as Tozer doesn't waste words, but makes sure to always point readers to the finished work of Christ and the passion that should instill in us on a moment-by-moment basis.

Today I stopped reading this daily devotional; I got to March 14 and had to quit. The book had some encouraging thoughts and I even posted some quotes on FB that I thought would encourage other Christians in their walk with the Lord. However, I found more often that the author was condemning, professing works righteousness and mishandling scripture. I do not disparage A. W. Tozer, in fact I hold him in high esteem. It has been my practice to read his “Knowledge of the Holy” each year as a refreshing look at my relationship with the Lord. I admit that I have not done this in the last few years and may read it yet this year.

The reason I stopped reading “Mornings with Tozer” on this particular day is because of this day’s devotional. The scripture reading on which the one page devotional was based is 1 Thessalonians 3:12, “And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one to another, and toward all men.” Tozer’s commentary and ending prayer did not include the word, “love” at all. Not even once. In fact his opening words are, “I must take issue…” Several days commentary link works to salvation and there never is a clear presentation of the gospel as stated by the Apostle Paul in the beginning verses of I Corinthians 15. Again, there are some very good quotes that help in living the Christian life but get negated by a touch of condemnation. These are my thoughts; others may see it differently.

First sentence: Men and women without God are helpless and hopeless human beings. We do well to remember that sin is to the human nature what cancer is to the human body! Can can argue with the fact that sin has ruined us?

I can be harsh when it comes to devotions. I can. But I can't be harsh with a TOZER devotional. One of my main issues with many devotionals is that devotionals tend to be shallow, story-oriented, light on Scripture, focused more on warm-fuzzies than on teaching truth. Tozer is almost always substantive, thought-provoking, tell-it-like-it-is, zealous and passionate for God's glory.

I love, love, love A.W. Tozer. I love his zeal, his passion, his enthusiasm. This book is a collection--366 devotions? 365 devotions--of quotes from his sermons and published works. Each entry was short--about one and a half pages--but substantive.

I definitely recommend this one.

Quote:
I hope that if I am remembered at all, it will be for this reason: I have spent my efforts and my energies trying to turn the direction of the people away from the external elements of religion to those that are internal and spiritual. I have tried to take away some of the clouds in the hope that men and women would be able to view God in His glory. I would like to see this sense of glory recaptured throughout the church—too many Christians do not expect to experience any of the glory until they see Him face-to-face!

This book of devotions is an inspirational way to begin your day. Each entry begins with a topic heading to allow the reader to focus on what is to be presented. Next is the verse, the reading and a short prayer.

Each of the entries are excerpts from sermons given by A.W. Tozer. They also allow for a closeness to God that will stay with the reader throughout the day. I love beginning my day with these readings. So often they speak to my heart or they will provide guidance as I face things throughout the day.

I highly recommend this book

I am a big Tozer fan. Wonderful deep devotional. The one I have was printed in 2008 not 2014. Compiled by Gerald B. Smith.

After reading Oswald Chamber's "Utmost for His Highest" for about 3 years in a row, this was really hard to get used to. The level of insight and poignancy of writing in "Utmost" is just so high that it's hard to compare anything else to it, in my opinion. But I tried my best to get through the entire "Mornings With Tozer." I made it just over half way. The most difficult thing about this was that in nearly every reading, except for a few, Tozer starts off with, or concludes with, or interjects negative criticism about how 'the Church doesn't do what it's supposed to anymore,' or how preachers are losing their edge -- I have a problem with this for many reasons: First of all, I'm reading a devotional, and I expect to have a time of reflection on God's word, and experience personal conviction, not finger pointing. Secondly, the things which he criticizes seem to be a about a specific time or place or people that I don't have access to, so I have no ability to judge whether his criticisms are valid. Thirdly, some of them I could be sure were very narrowly pointed and not true about the Christians that I know. Finally, the writing style is not very engaging.
The only part that I consistently enjoyed and relied on were the little two sentence prayers he put at the end of each devotional.

What's not to love about Tozer? To the point and rather eloquent - now put that in a devotional. There's just enough time to eat your breakfast, swallow your coffee, and digest that day's entry of Tozer. Perfecto. I was thrilled to learn that there was a morning devotional by A. W. Tozer. I have already read Charles Spurgeon's Morning and Evening so many times the book is literally falling apart and when I stumbled on Mornings with Tozer it was a match made in heaven. You seriously cannot go wrong with a book by Tozer. It puts you in the right perspective, gets the wheels to turning, and if you're on a tight schedule this devotional is so doggone perfect. If you haven't got this one in your library you need it!

Mornings With Tozer, by A. W. Tozer, contains 365 one-page devotions to begin your day. These devotional readings guide us in our Christian life and bring us closer to God. Many of them are derived from the author’s sermons. Even though he died in the early sixties, his teachings are still timely and stir a reader’s heart.

Each devotional reading is dated and contains a descriptive title, Scripture verse (KJV), single-page devotion, and a short prayer paragraph. The messages edify the soul and prepare us for the start of a new day.

The language is poetic and flows well, the works are organized neatly and the readings only take a few minutes. I enjoy starting my day with these meaningful morning messages. I also have the follow-up devotional, Evenings With Tozer—adding a second helping of daily blessings.

I had no idea that this book would be so well organized by date or so good for me to read. I haven’t read much Tozer though many people have talked about his writing. This book is a compacted daily devotional that lists each date, a verse, a short story, and a printed prayer. Many times I don’t always like the little prayers at the end, they seem too scripted in a conversation with the Lord. But it does give you a good idea on what you could be praying about.
Otherwise I love this book and was giddy to start reading it!! I like have a devotional book to go along with my regular Bible reading. This gives you applicable stories and a good Biblical background.

Highly recommend.

Absolutely excellent

This book gives me a deeper insight of God's revelations.
Billhiggins2@att.net I believe the bible from the book of genius to revelation is whole and complete and should not be added to or taken away in any fashion, but I also believe God still gives to some men a deeper or reintegration of God's revelation, of which, Dr. Tower has been given this gift.
