Rate this book
From the holistic psychology expert and author of the mind-body-spirit classic Be Like Water, comes a guide filled with revolutionary methods to help you find the physical and psychological energy you need to live a vibrant life.

Have you ever told yourself to power through, “fake it until you make it,” put mind over matter—and found yourself hitting a wall, day after day after day?

We’re all familiar with this “positive thinking” approach for managing our lives and getting through rough times. Ironically, these methods often fail us because we end up wearing ourselves down by the effort it takes to constantly maintain such an upbeat outlook. So what if instead of working to fix our mindset for better energy, we synced our body’s energy to create a better mind?

In Body Intelligence , Joseph Cardillo, PhD, combines Western science, technology, psychology, and holistic medicine to show that we must first balance the body’s energies before we can enhance the mind. Based on cutting-edge ideas, this perennial guide teaches us to tap into our energetic “sweet spot” and identify specific steps we must take to remove energy blocks. Packed with exercises, self-tests, and step-by-step instructions, Body Intelligence provides all the interactive tools for beginners and experienced energy-balancing practitioners alike to improve and understand the specific energy needed to live a happy, healthy, fulfilling life.

So open the door to a vivacious, vivid life and start living the matter-over-mind way—your best way!

All around us is energy, we are energy, thoughts are energy, everything is energy, and energy attracts energy.
Have you ever walked into a room or place and felt energized ? Maybe you have that favorite outfit that makes you feel powerful ? What about the blues, do you fins yourself in an unending pattern of unhappiness or anger. What if you could harness these energies, tweak them to work for you or at least to learn to manipulate them so they don't work against you. The author of this book details how to recognize and develop new patterns to harness and divert these energies.
When I saw this book I admit I was thrilled to see a book on energies without some religious or mythical connection. I believe, I have seen many times in my life proof that this is a truth. There are places I go, where I get a strong sense of peace, strength, and melancholy. After reading this I was able to see what I was drawn to. I was naturally trying to balance myself without even knowing it. Yes, I had many "A ha' moments. I loved the memory recall exercise best. I was able to use several memories that evoked a feeling into my daily life pattern and side-step some quick draw reactions to frustrating situations. I avoided the anger, fear, jealousy, anxiety so simply. I also found the music energy section very helpful and changing some of my beats did change my energies. Living can be stressful or it can be something else. This book directs you how to turn it towards that something else. I'm working on implementing these tools and the many others into my daily life.
The only problem I had with this was that some of it just went over my head in details. I had to re-read several sections very slowly to "get it" it was a new way of thinking and I'm not sure if it was the author or my mind patterns that made it a bit hard to read. Because I had to re-read it slowly and take notes even at some points I was able to look deeper at the process he was describing. Maybe it wasn't such a negative after all.

Considering the subtitle "Harness Your Body's Energies for Your Best Life", I had expected a book that would deal more with having energy - i.e., the opposite of fatigue. In that respect, Body Intelligence disappointed. It was however, an interesting look at how our surroundings, thoughts, attitude, habits etc. can affect us throughout the course of our day - and how we can change these things to achieve our desired results.
However, if you are fairly well-versed when it comes to health, positive thinking and basic nutrition, there probably won't be much for you here. If on the other hand you are new to these topics, I would definitely recommend it.

My career is in the field of psychology and I’ve touched the subject of body intelligence and movement before, I haven’t really read anything about holistic medicine or energies or anything like that before,
This book brings forth a new perspective to me and there are some interesting points in the book. I will definitely at least try them out, but I will stay critical in my thoughts,
This type of thing would be easier at least for me to try, if the there was an audio or video guide to follow,
Definitely an interesting book to read.

This book is a fun (if repetitive) read. The author explains how our bodies are constantly influenced by many types of energy including sight, sound, color, scene, words, and memories. When we understand how they influence us, we are better able to tap into them to regulate our own energy. The daily practice of awareness, being mindful of energy sources and which ones help rev us up or bring us down is important, along with moments of quiet reflection or meditation. Each chapter includes exercises to do in order to properly maintain your own energy levels.

I did think this book was geared to physical energy and health. It's more for positive thinking. This book is great as an intro if you are new to this type of info. Or if you need a reminder of such ideas. I did like the idea of utilizing the 5 senses...which was a reminder from other books to help in visualization of things you want.

This author does have various exercises which were interesting.

This book has lots of great ideas but he lost me when he included a quote from a particular person who I will refrain from mentioning. Bad timing on the author's part, I guess, depending on where you stand politically.

A good message but extremely repetitive. The basic message is to breathe deeply and stay positive.

I would like to thank Beyond Words Publishing for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an open and honest review.

Being someone who has always strongly believed in the energy we gain from our surroundings, sights, smells, sounds, memories – I loved this book.

From the initial introduction on what body intelligence is and our ‘mind, body and spirit’ approach to things, through to the different occasions focusing our body’s energies on improving us, it was a great read.

Each chapter is a different ‘energy situation’ I guess you could say. It includes an example of someone in that situation, what they did to remedy it as well as some great guidance on how the reader could also benefit from similar actions. I did find myself looking forward to the “try this” moments within ‘Body Intelligence’.

The layout was a little clunky and blocky for me and so was a bit slow to read at times. I’m more of a ‘wide open spaces’ type. It probably is a personal choice though. But it did make it come across as some pretty heavy reading. Though, saying that, I did still gain advice and guidance so it’s not such a bad thing.

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. I’m very much one for trying to improve your mood, life and health through changing how you look at a situation and react to something. I always seek the positive in both good and bad experiences. And I feel this book has some really good advice as to why this works. Don’t go for the energy drinks, sugary foods or expensive gimmicks. Just focus on how the situation makes you feel and turn your energy from draining to collecting.

Would I buy this book for myself? Yes I would. I can see myself turning to specific chapters all the time to help me find a better mindset and improve where I’m finding myself.

In summary: This is a terrific little text book on helping you learn about the energy we all have and how to benefit from it.

This is a nice introduction book for everyone that is new or curious about different kind of medicine and energy, as well as just overall trying to find a better and healthier way to live.

Personally to me this book didn't over a huge amount of new of even useful information since everything that was helpful to me as not something I needed the book for since I already knew it from other sources.

Which is why I think this is a great and in depth introduction book. It offers a huge amount different information, goes in depth but not over the top with the info, gives you a nice background to start your healthier lifestyle with that combines the western and the eastern body knowledges to find the perfect middle for yourself.

Do read this if you want a book with a lot of information, and a nice introduction read into a different kind of living? Give this a try.
