A squad of Grey Knights commanded by Justicar Styre battle the infernal followers of the Plague God across the Imperium

The Grey Knights are a myth, a secret Chapter of Space Marines that responds to the greatest of daemonic incursions into the Emperor’s realm. They are spoken of in legends, silver-armoured heroes whose weapons blaze with holy fire and whose merest touch can destroy the servants of the Ruinous Powers. And the legends are true. In this collection of stories, a squad of Grey Knights commanded by Justicar Styre battle the infernal followers of the Plague God across the Imperium.

"Sons of Titan" was a collection of short stories, all related. It is the story of the Grey Knights. The forces of the Inquisition often require assets capable of direct assault and shock tactics. For the Ordo Heriticus (Witch Hunters) it is the Silent Sisters and the Sisters of Battle. For the Ordo Xenos (Alien Hunters) it is the elite Deathwatch unit of Astartes. But the Ordo Malleus (Chaos Hunters), due to the nature of their enemy, require something more-enter the Grey Knights. Created from a special gene-seed that is closely linked to the Emperor, Grey Knights are nigh-on incorruptible and their presence can be anathema to the Warp.

"Maledictus" is the first short story, novella really, and provides the basis for the entire book. An Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and her Grey Knight detachment travel to a world to confront a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor who might be working with the powers of Chaos. The demon that is unleashed is the main protagonist for the rest of the story. Excellent!

"True Name" is a short story covering how Justiciar Steyr comes to the conclusion that the demon Ku'gath is not yet done.

"Incorruptible" and "The Mourning Tower" round out these short stories. All are centered around the conflict between Gray Knights Justiciar Steyr and an Arch-Demon of Nurgle-Ku'gath. A great look at the Grey Knights and their tactics.

Grey Knights: Sons of Titan, by David Annandale, is a new collection of Grey Knight short stories in the Warhammer 40000 universe. The Grey Knights are a group of Space Marines who channel fanatic faith and zeal to hunt down enemies of the Imperium and banish chaos and heresy with their martial and psychic abilities. This collection of short stories features a continuous story of Grey Knight activity, following a squad of the Space Marines as they battle a Plaguefather, heretical elements and psychic foes and Orks.

Annandale has written an interesting Warhammer 40k collection. The Grey Knights are a fun squad to follow, although are fairly standard as Space Marines come. The short stories are interesting and fun, featuring all the standard Warhammer 40k action, and grimdark science fiction. Even so, the collection offers very little in the way of innovation or appeal beyond the 40k universe. It was fun, well written, but fairly cliched as 40k stories go. This should be no problem for fans of the 40k book series, and if so, this collection of short stories can be easily recommended. For science fiction fans who have not read any Warhammer 40k books previously, however, this is not the best starting place. A fun and light read, with few bells and whistles, I did enjoy my time with this short story collection.

Kind of a “meh” read for me. I typically like Annandale’s work (30k not withstanding), but this seemed fairly bland. Feels like a marketing meeting was held to assemble notes on a story that emphasized miniature features and was then passed to David.

Not terrible, particularly if you are a Grey Knights fan.

Hit and miss

I read this book directly after reading Emperors Gift and that probably spoilt my enjoyment of this book, it started well with the novella and the different ordo mindsets but the short stories felt flat

I like that all these stories feature the same principle cast and all link together quite nicely.
The Sanctus Reach material largely passed me by unnoticed so it's been fun to go back and see what I missed.

Epistolary Gared is definitely a standout character for me, as was Col (Ret.) Klas Brauner.

Quick read, too quick. Liked the depiction of chaos, but fairly predictable plot.

A compilation of four Grey Knights stories, David Annandale’s Sons of Titan tells a single story over four different tales, all featuring Justicar Styer. It combines together the previously-released novella Maledictus and the prose versions of two audio dramas (Incorruptible and True Name) along with a short story currently only available in this book (The Mourning Tower). Set in and around the Sanctus Reach system, and tying loosely in with other stories set therein, it sees Styer leading his men alongside Inquisitor Furia, following the strands of fate to try and put a stop to worryingly vague daemonic threats.

The first novella of this collection is very well written and offers a good read with a few interesting characters. The issues arise in the following short stories, which do not have the depth, or the same interesting characters. The final story in the book left me confused as it seemed very rushed and some plot points from the novella and other stories were left hanging. The most interesting character in this didnt appear after a small epilogue in the novella, despite it foreshadowing later appearances.
This collection should be read for the main novella and a couple of the stories. This also has one of the best inquisitor characters I've read about in some time.

Another quick but highly enjoyable read. I like how the novella and following shorts work as one story arc. There is great atmosphere and some bad ass smack downs here. This was my first foray into the world of the Grey Knights chapter. Will be seeking out more. Recommended.

The novella at the start of the book is probably the strongest story out of the lot, but overall I had a lot of fun with this even if the themes are a bit repetitive.
