Exorcists Rokuro and Benio unleash serious supernatural action while purifying the world of monsters.
The “Twin Star Exorcists” are fated to produce the child prophesied to end the war with the monstrous Kegare… But can Rokuro and Benio get along for five minutes, let alone save the world?
Rokuro and Benio’s constant bickering is briefly silenced when she is attacked by the powerful Kegare who killed her parents. Then a disturbing secret about Rokuro’s past is revealed…
This volume starts to flesh out more of the cast. A villain that I presume will be recurring, childhood friends, and a mentor figure! The final chapter throws a big wrench into everything that's happened so far, which will be neat to see play out. I'm not sold on this manga yet but one nice thing about monthly series are the longer chapters giving more opportunities to tell complete story arcs without the awkward pacing of shorter weekly chapters. Twin Star Exorcists is doing an alright job with that, so I'm not dreading the follow-up next volume.
Some of the way things are built up give me pause though.
This series is getting better and better. I love exorcists, but I have a hard time getting into a series completely, hopefully this will be able to change my view about it. 3.5 stars!
Wow! What an amazing reveal to end the story! Like anyone can not just pre-order Vol. 3 after an ending like that! Really enjoyed this volume. Lots of action but we're really getting to know Rokuro and Benio better as characters and they are getting to know each other better. Also included here is some good plotting with the story behind the "twin star" exorcists and family history for Benio. While the two are certainly not in a relationship yet, their forced circumstances has brought them together in interesting ways and a competitive nature, which can be cute at times, has blossomed between them. The direction of the next volume should prove interesting!
Guys, guys! We have an Aizawa character for this series! Oh happy day, I didn't think we'd be so blessed to have one!
But seriously, I adore Seigen, especially his design. That's something I didn't tough on in my review of the last volume, but I do like the character designs. While I wouldn't say they're the best I've ever seen, they definitely look good and work with the setting and tone. Mayura's design is simply adorable, while Seigen's is equal parts hilariously gloomy yet intimidating. I loved seeing Mayura get on Seigen's case at the cafe and see Seigen be a little intimidated by his daughter. Yo though, that scene where Mayura gets attacked by the Kegare was freaking creepy as shit. I have to give Sukeno props, dude knows how to draw creepy shit when the plot demands it.
Something that I feel the need to bring up, though, is how soon we're learning about everyone's tragic backstory. It's clear that Rokuro's is going to be dished out little by little, but the fact that we're already getting Benio's backstory worries me a bit. While I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, giving it to the audience so early kind of ruins the mystery surrounding Benio's character. One could argue that this is a slight subversion, delivering the love interest/partner's backstory early rather than drawing it out for much later, but since there wasn't a lot of build up to this reveal in the first place it doesn't have the same impacted. Granted, this means that the audience can watch and understand Benio's growth because her backstory was revealed so early, so it isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm just a little stunned that Sukeno chose to reveal it so soon. Oh well, only time will tell, I suppose.
Oh yeah, side note, the Basara that Rokuro and Benio faced was fucking OBNOXIOUS, and I have a feeling it's going to be a reoccurring villain, but can they please kill it next time? Seriously, the whole "I'll give you ten seconds to decide" was so fucking annoying, I wanted to bang my head against a wall.
Anyway, a good second volume all around, looking forward to the next one!
I did not expect much of anything that happened in this volume. While Rokuro continues to refer to "the Tighty-Whitey Weirdo" we thankfully are spared much contact with Arima in favor of other characters. The humor is more incidental and character based, and the story itself delves into both our protagonists in really revealing ways. Further, it begins to push the relationships between the various characters in the book in ways both interesting and realistic, almost as if, after getting his "just-believe-me-it's-part-of-the-premise" first volume out of the way Yoshiaki could do some real storytelling. This was a fantastic volume. And ooooohhhhh that ending...
I loved getting back into this story! Learning more about the prophecy, as well as what happened that night 2 years ago! That left me with such a cliffhanger. Good thing I had #3 on hand! I just love the worlds that Japanese manga manage to create, so original! Although it seems like an uphill battle, knowing that kegare and humans will always coexist..
Things are picking up a bit. We get a brief fight with the humanoid Kegare guy, which ends up being "to be continued" to set him up as a major antagonist. And we get a tease of some Bleach Gosei 13 rip-offs. Nothing wild. But the volume ends on the revelation that the boy was responsible for that tragedy at the dorm, and the girl had a twin brother who lived in the dorm, so some strife is about to unfurl.

This was a lot better than volume one. The characters are starting to get a bit more fleshed out and interesting. I like how we're learning more about each character's past, and the art is fantastic. Definitely looking forward to the next volume.
I thought the story in the anime felt rushed, and I was very pleased to find that the manga is better paced and explains whats going on better. Enjoyed this volume.
?????!!!!!WHAT!!!?!?!?!?!!!!!?!?????This series is getting crazy!?!?!?!?!!?? I love this series!!! So hard to put down!!!!!! Too bad the library only have the first 4 manga of this series.....
I really like how this manga is unfollowing and I enjoyed learning about Benios past with her parents. That plot twist at the end! I didn’t see that one coming. I’m excited to pick up the next few volumes because I’m dying to know what happens next.
Benio and Rokuro are forced to move in together in the hopes that they will become eventual parents of the most powerful exorcist ever. While they figure out their living situation, Benio finally tracks down the kegare she's been searching for - the kegare who killed her parents. Rokuro's plan to make dinner is interrupted by Benio's failure to come home, so he goes out searching for her, and finds her within an inch of her life! After rescuing her from Magano and giving her the meal he's prepared, they re-enter and face the kegare together, embracing their twin powers. Later, Mayura tells Benio of the Hinatsuki Tragedy, and we learn Benio and Rokuro's pasts are bound in tragedy.
This series, so far, does a great job in mixing seriousness with humor. We learn the tragedy of Benio's parents, then in swoops Rokuro with, "Your dinner's getting cold!" as a reasonable explanation for saving her. While at school, Rokuro and Benio constantly have to field questions about their relationship, and Mayura is a source of hilarity with her silliness and overly large breasts. The cliffhanger of this volume is brutal, however, so have volume three ready to go.
The scenes are wonderfully illustrated with a heavy emphasis on darker shading when the two are in Magano, while scenes at school are all light for contrast.
There is some light boob humor, and violence with some blood, but no gore. VIZ rates this title for teen, which is an appropriate rating.
Didn't get a chance to read volume 1, but I liked this book anyway. The main characters are fated to make the perfect exorcist, as in, have a kid together and use their awesome genes to create an exorcist of awesome power. This does not sit well with them. The humor and the action is great! Fans of Soul Eater would likely get a kick out of the battling storyline, as well as the character design. Rokuro's sharp teeth remind me of Soul so much! Nice story that resists the urge to get crazy with fan service and instead focuses on the characters and where they are going. Who ever thunk it? I will definitely keep reading.
Excellent showing for a second volume. Everything is moving along smoothly, with Benio and Rokuro managing to slowly get closer to each other despite all the forcing that everyone around them keeps going. It even looks like things could go well, which of course means a big ol' wrench is thrown in the works, and it is a doozy. There has been plenty of mystery and concern around the Hinatsuki tragedy and in this volume they finally start to speak about it, which leads into a cliffhanger hook for the next volume. So good!
Not surprised by the ending but it was revealed in a satisfying way. I appreciate the author taking time away from fights to de slop the characters more.
Quick thoughts: Getting better, although not at its potential yet. Still lots of cliches but I find the way they're combined interesting. Big cliffhanger for volume 3.
