The co-owner of one of America's best cocktail bars brings craft mixology to tropical drinks in a new, enticing way.
From the renowned Cuban rum bar Cienfuegos—owned by the co-owner of Death & Co., named Best American Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail® in 2010—comes this spirited collection of 100 recipes that celebrate Cuba’s rich history and culture. It features timeless classics, such as the Cuba Libre, El Floridita Daiquirí, and Mojito; a bevy of punch recipes to share with friends and family; new takes on familiar favorites, such as the Isla Tea, Por Avion, and Rum Old Fashioned; and modern craft concoctions, including the Havana Harbor Special, Imperial Fizz, and One Hundred Fires. But Cuban Cocktails offers more than just a collection of delectable recipes. It captures the tropical elegance and unfiltered energy of old Cuba, brimming with beautiful, evocative images of the drinks and the places where they came to life. Features shed fascinating light on the country’s cocktail history, its legendary bars, and the famous cantineros who ran them, while notes, tips, and tricks make it easy to create a tantalizing taste of the once-forbidden Caribbean island. ¡Bienvenidos a Cienfuegos!
Great tropical drinks from Cuba, including the classics and contemporary cocktails. Specifies the rum to use in each cocktail. Some are technical, while others are simple and easy to make. A bit of a history book too.
This is my favorite cocktail book at the moment - everything I made was a winner, sometimes transcendent. Little bits of history were helpful for context, it was a great precursor to reading Beachbum Berry's Potions of the Caribbean, which I would recommend reading for more context.
If you want a book with amazing rum cocktail options, then this is a great one. For great rum drinks, I'd also look at Smuggler's Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki. Both are amazing, and I'd be hard pressed to say which is better.
I might end up choosing Smuggler's Cove one over this because of the rum reference section in that book which comes in handy when making rum drinks from any book or source. Nonetheless, this book has many amazing cocktail recipes.
If you aren't interested in exploring rum drinks, then both this book and the Smuggler's Cove book only have a few drinks that use tequila, rye or some other base liquor.
Really liked how the history of Cuba is tide to the history of each cocktail. Presentation is beautiful and the cocktails all sound and look delicious.
