This book provided me with an enjoyable and refreshing reading experience. It examines principles which include integrity, communication, consistency, hard work and the ability to treat others with respect without using complex self-help theories. I appreciated how the book executed the concepts of personal happiness, professional success and social connections. Many books in this genre are too focused on getting ahead in your job while neglecting the essential people side of life. The book maintains its focus on authentic self-expression and genuine human contact. Reading this felt like receiving helpful advice from a renowned expert. Additionally, the ideas were also useful enough to use in real life, not just inspiring on paper, which was another thing I loved.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it’s soothing and uplifting.

It will tell you that happiness and strong relationships are often based on basic principles that people today tend to forget about.

Reading Authentic felt strangely calming, like someone finally turning down the noise in a world obsessed with performance. The image that stayed with me most was the idea of the “corporate mask.” Not because I work in a corporate environment, but because everyone wears some version of a mask somewhere. There is always pressure to appear more composed, more successful, more certain than we really are.

I also loved the book’s discussion of vulnerability. Barrett describes honest leadership almost like opening a window in a suffocating room. The leaders who admit uncertainty become more trustworthy, not less. That felt deeply human to me because perfection usually creates distance, while honesty creates connection.

When I finished the book, I didn’t feel motivated in the traditional self-help sense. I felt quieter. More aware. Like I had been reminded that integrity is not built in dramatic moments, but in the small daily choices that either bring us closer to ourselves or slowly pull us away.

Transcendence

In a business environment obsessed with immediate results and financial gains, it is easy to lose sight of the true purpose of our daily efforts. This work stems from a fundamental premise: genuine success is not measured by accumulated status, but by the mark we leave on the lives of others. With great emotional and personal depth, the text contrasts superficial and fleeting success with a model of lasting fulfilment, grounded in constant dedication, integrity, and respect for the intrinsic value of every person. It offers timeless principles for building meaningful careers. A call to replace the coldness of transactions with the warmth of real connections, ensuring that the final legacy is not a number on a balance sheet, but a network of unbreakable relationships. Professionals and leaders who seek to ensure that their daily work not only generates economic benefits, but also enriches their own lives and those of their community.

This book is a meditation on what success truly means. It’s not always something that’s easy to define, as it will mean different things to different people. However, in his father, this author had a great role model who was able to teach him a quantifiable measure of success that stuck with him for decades. This is a tribute from father to son, but it’s also full of practical lessons about what success in life can mean if you’re conducting yourself properly and have your priorities in order.

This book will teach you that human connection matters, and that even if you’re busy, you need to be fully present for your loved ones as much as possible. This is the real legacy you leave behind. If you can find career success while also making sure your family knows how much you care about them, then you have done well.

Life Lessons

This book not only teaches how we can truly achieve success—a word that has different meanings and scopes depending on the person—but also demonstrates the value and importance of human relationships. Showing interest and concern for others, and building close relationships with them, will lead to long-term success in the professional sphere. It emphasizes always putting family and loved ones first, keeping them present in our lives. Achieving success both professionally and in our family life means achieving balance.

This book, which focuses more on life lessons than anything else, teaches us to value others and recognize their importance in our lives, where every stage of human development is based on human relationships, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood.

Authentic by William S. Barrett is a blend of personal memoir, business biography, and life guide. Barrett recounts his father’s incredible devotion to his family and his remarkable dedication to bettering his and his loved ones' lives. In this book, you’ll learn how it is possible to be successful professionally without missing out on real human connections and deeper meaning. I found the father’s effects on his family to be a profound example of how important good parenting and role-modelling are! Whether you are interested in the memoir aspect of this book, the business and professional success story, or the insight into how to live a well-rounded, fulfilling life, this book has many nuggets of wisdom.

What is success? And what happens when we achieve it? Today, it seems that in the business world, success means creating a profitable business that generates income, but what happens in the process? What happens to the people who help us reach that goal? This book is about that: the bond and connection that can be forged when an advisor works with their client.

In this book, we learn the story of Bill Barrett's father and how his teachings shaped his son's life. I found it to be an absolutely extraordinary book, as it offers many lessons, not only for business but for life.

I highly recommend this inspiring book to anyone seeking answers about success in business and in life.

raw and inspiring

Authentic is a truly inspiring short novel on how human connection and genuinely being a good person can make you not only live a life that is successful but also one that gives you true human connections.
Even though this is a self-help book, it doesn't feel like one gives you prime examples about how hard work and dedication pay off and more ways than one. It's nice to get a glimpse at how other people find success not only being rich, but also being rich with people who truly make your world and life worth living.
A very good read that helps you see your own world in a new perspective.

This book made me stop and think. Bill’s stories about his family, especially his dad working so hard in the Bronx, are just so moving. It’s a proper example for life and business. I think it’s a really important book for right now because everyone online just wants quick wins and to treat people like numbers.

For me, the best bit was the prompt to just slow down a little. Actually be there in the moment and build proper, honest relationships with people. It really made me look at my own work and life differently, to be fair. It’s just a genuinely good read and totally different from the usual stuff online. Definitely well worth getting.

I appreciate the warmth of this book. It's not any typical business book as many I've read. The tone is very good and clear and it's like a conversation about what truly matters in life and in work.

The author reflects about family and relationships and this is what, for me, made the reading feel closer. I really agree with the idea of building trust over time because I think it's essential in any kind of relationship.

Also, I believe that the idea that success is more rewarding when shared with others is what stuck me the most.

I really liked the view about success this book has. It's different and genuine, it focuses on long lasting success and I believe this is what we all should focus on.
The stories about the author’s father were some of the strongest parts for me. They added warmth and showed how small acts of dedication and kindness can shape a person’s legacy over time.
The author's writing is simple and it was easy to follow and to understand. This simplicity is what I liked most.

I think this book is interesting and enjoyable because it focuses on character, and that's not always easy to find in business discussions. This read reminds us that success, apart from being about money and growth, is about how we treat people.
The lessons shared by author Barrett are timeless and practical, and I liked the stories included in the book because they add a personal touch. It's inspiring.
