Quick little Star Wars adventure. Twas free, so I liked that. I will say, not quite what the blood pumping Darth Vader centered adventure it was advertised as (similar to Master of Evil). Much more of a young reader's story. Stop lying to me, LF Press.

Simple, fun, and good time. Alot darker and scarier for the target age range than I would have expected. It was quick and was a good solid story. Some fun connections for canon junkies 👀.

These audible exclusives are fun, but nothing spectacular. I really wish the producers were able to use actual music and sound effects from the films, but I guess that just won't happen with any of these releases. Relative to the other audible audio stories, this is on the better side. I think Zan's (Xan?) arc of being a propagandized true-believer in the Empire to then being willing to risk his life for his rebel friend (and the alliance as a whole) was well done. Vanee's presence in this is great. It's cool how he has become such an important recurring figure in the new Canon timeline, with several appearances across comics and audiobooks. The cameo of Lina Graf at the end was also cool, and a nice nod to Scott's other Star Wars work.

I do find it interesting that Vader is a known figure among the kids in Xan's group.

Since this is for free on Audible, I can't complain too much. There is a big part of me that wishes they would do more open-ended stories in this format in the future, rather than these small, all-ages adventures with little galactic importance.

This is a YA book with a twist borrowed from a legends book I’m currently reading. The twist that I won’t mention here is prominent in The Truce at Bakura, a book about what happened right after the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. Marc Thompson narrates beautifully, but it’s a formulaic entry.

A fun time that I felt got pretty dark considering the target audience for this star wars book, Cavan Scott definitely left some cool connections and references for canon nerds out there haha

While showing how a kid might grow up thinking Vader and the Empire are amazing is an interesting idea, I gotta ask why have a kid be the POV character for this somewhat Vader-centric story?

Cavan Scott has done it again. His writing style is truly masterful, and it has the remarkable ability to make you feel deeply immersed in the story, almost as if it's seeping into your very bones.

A fun short story, fun and vader really know how to pick his henchmen, it did get dark even if its aimed at a younger audience.

An interesting concept, unfortunately despite the advertisement I don’t think I am in the intended age group.
