~ 4.75 stars — never in my LIFE did i think i would rate a romance book with the insta-love trope this high. this book was beautiful WOW one of my favourites for sure 🤭

four days after finishing the book...
I sat and thought about it, and I am definitely convinced that this book is worthy of a proper review. I was immediately intrigued by Kir and Jillian from the first book in this series, as it was planned that he had to kill her; I knew with a plot like that, that this book would be very, very good. HOWEVER, I honestly believe that this is one of the most well-written dark romances I have ever read. Both Kir and Jillian are intricately constructed and are very well-rounded characters. I find this quite rare to come across in the dark romance genre (ESPECIALLY for FMCs). I loved reading in both their perspectives, and I thought Nicole articulated their fears and desires in such an intriguing manner. The romance that blossoms between Kir and Jillian literally had me screaming to myself. The tension, the angst, the build-up, the passion and I cannot forget about the banter; Nicole Fox is truly the queen of dark romance banter. It takes a lot for me to actually laugh whilst reading, and reading the dialogue between Kir and Jillian actually had me giggling.
Their characters worked PERFECTLY together. I loved them as flawed individuals, and I especially loved them as a sweet couple. Both their backstories are hauntingly beautiful, and reading them find happiness in each other had me crying whilst attempting to do my laboratory work (not even joking). This HONESTLY is a 5-star dark romance. The only reason why I have given it 4.75 stars is that some of the smut scenes are a little heavy for me. Nothing to dissuade completely, but I know my limits and especially during the first few chapters, I was a bit cautious.
Nonetheless, I loved this book so so so much, and I still don't think my review does this book justice. Nothing gets me like an emotional dark romance, and Kir and Jillian's story truly delivered on that part.

I love me a masked stalker book any day!! While I didn't read book 1, it didn't have any effect on reading book 2. But I will be going back and reading book 1 now also. Kir is sent to kill Jillian, but falls for her instead. And when Jillian gives in, the chemistry between these two is fire.

SPOILER ALERT ----- YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
I do want to start by saying I will go ahead and give this novel a 4 ⭐️. Maybe 3½.
Good plot, good writing, good characters, despite a few expected little flaws. I always roll my eyes at the irritating actions of one MC or another!
I did enjoy this book, just probably less than the first. Listed as a stand-alone, they're pretty heavily connected, I think they should have just been touted as a series.
It's difficult to write a veracious review without spoilers slipping in, but I'll certainly try.
Sorry. In retrospect, I cannot.
There are a few points I'd like to hit on, and maybe someone will enlighten me.
Kir, MMC. In the beginning of book one, he was an unlikeable man, to me he seemed like a grown sissy man, shaking, and frightened of dad. Anddddd - he was in "love" with his secretary Rae. In the office, he claims he wouldn't let her leave "because he wanted her close". He fumbled with her clothing, wouldn't accept her saying no to the situation, whispered what he thought were sweet nothings in her ear, claims he's wanted her for months, tried to "buy" her. Pretty hungry up, I'd say. How long before he'd make her say "mine"? Dad walks in, catches him, and Kir's a shaking, sappy, scared mess. Not the experienced, smooth boyfriend we are introduced to in book 2, who quickly, really quickly, falls in love with MFC Jillian, bff to Rae? Fickle Kir jumped from one love (Rae) to the next (Jillian) in no time flat. Falls in and outta love so fast it'll make your head spin! No mention of Rae to Jillian. Jillian does stupid stuff, of course. Dad can't stand Jillian, thinks nothing of Rae's feelings in what aftermath could fall. Meanwhile, Kir, everyone's book boyfriend by now, actually a snake in the grass, takes off. For quite awhile she watches via Google. He is with other women, etc. No mention of that. On the upside, no MFC pregnancy!
Jillian carries on. Rae and Lukas (still here from book 1!) doing their thing in the supporting character line-up.
Well, stay tuned......

The end...I've said it before and I will say it again...mafia romances will always and forever be my favorite...the MMC's are always dark and grity and broody and love their women with intensity and fierce protectiveness...and this book is no different...except it adds a layer to it that makes it even better, our mafia man is also our masked man...thats right...two for the price of one!!!
This is the second book in the Boardroom Billionaires book, part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. This book is about Kir and Jillian. Kir is sent to unalive our journalist Jillian, and instead becomes her masked stalker where the lines between love and hate become very blurred.
I loved this book because it showed the realness of people who have broken pasts. Jillian has had a hard life and gone through trauma most people will never understand, so when Kir comes in to kill her, you see her essentially giving up and letting him do what he came to do...learning that fighting doesn't always mean survival...but when this happens, something in Kir shifts, and he sees a bit of his pain in her...and thus she becomes his obsession.
This is very much so a cat and mouse game where both players are emotionally damaged, and find healing in the broken parts of the other person. The added layer of the mafia makes it a book you will be reading while sitting on the edge of your seat.
I personally love Nicole Fox and their writing. They always do a phenomenal job at creating edge of your seat mafia romances that keep me coming back for more!

Kir has been sent by his father to kill Jillian an investigative journalist who is trying to uncover the truth of the Lazarev Bratva. Kir is the son of the Bratva leader. Jillian is best friends with Rae who is with Kir’s father. When Kir goes into Jillian’s apartment to kill her she initially fights him but then she just lets him do what he wants. The masked man continues to visit Jillian and she likes it. There is trauma in her past. Kir and Jillian continue to build a bond and then a relationship. Can they both get what they want? Will they be good for each other?

It’s getting better
A solid three stars. It was a good story and the pace was good however I had to deduct one star for the HUGE plot that was never addressed at the end. If someone put a hit out on me I sure wouldn’t be attending their wedding or going to a Halloween party with them like we were the best of friends. Like I said, it’s getting better. Much better than book 1 but it still doesn’t feel like Ms. Fox’s other books. Not saying that’s a bad thing, just that I prefer her previous writing style.

I definitely think one of the reasons this didn't fully land for me is because I read it out of order. While it can absolutely be read as a standalone, I often find myself feeling like I'm missing important emotional context when I skip earlier books. That's entirely a personal preference, and I think it affected my overall connection to the story.
What I really appreciated was how honestly the book portrayed two people carrying the weight of deeply broken pasts. Jillian has endured trauma that no one should ever have to experience, and when Kir comes into her life intending to kill her, her reaction says so much about everything she's survived. Instead of fighting, she's simply... exhausted. That moment was heartbreaking, and it became the turning point for both of them.
Something shifts in Kir when he recognizes pieces of his own pain reflected in Jillian. What starts as a mission quickly becomes an obsession, creating a tense cat-and-mouse dynamic where neither of them is emotionally whole. Watching two damaged people slowly find healing in each other's broken pieces was easily my favorite aspect of the book.
The mafia backdrop added plenty of suspense and kept the story moving, making it easy to stay invested in what would happen next. There was always an underlying sense of danger that kept me turning the pages.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, but I can't help wondering if I would've connected with it more had I read the first book beforehand. I definitely plan on going back, reading the series in order, and then giving Boardroom Mask another chance because I have a feeling my experience will be very different the second time around.

this would've been a 5star for me if it weren't for all unnecessary details like song titles, clothing brands, detailed makeup routine. things really started picking up in the 2nd half. the angst and tension got so much more intense, and the suspense built up and unraveled in a way that kept me hooked.

Gave it 3 but it felt more like 2.5 star read. Overall ended up okay. But early on there was some errors that I just couldn’t let go of… ex: Masked man is in her home and in Jillian’s POv she says Kir feels at home on her turf…. She doesn’t know it’s him yet. Or when he’s wearing a mask that covers most of his face and she says he smiles a viscous grin, you wouldn’t be able to tell that… maybe I misread but I just found those errors disappointing I guess.

This is an excellent follow-up to “Boardroom Sins”, putting two supporting characters into the lead roles and fleshing them out (yes, pun intended).
A well-thought out continuing and expanding narrative.

Kir Lazarev has a mission: eliminate Jillian, the reporter digging a little too close into the Lazarev family Bratva. Easy enough right? Of course not. What starts off as a calculated game of stalking and control slowly evolves as Kir and Jillian begin to find comfort in each others dark presence and their twisted game turns into love.
Going into this, I was already so curious about Kir and Jillian after Boardroom Sins. And boy it did not disappoint at all!
Jillian was such a strong FMC, I really liked her a lot. She had this inner darkness that clearly stemmed from her past, but she just picks herself up and keeps going. She’s mature, self-aware, and honestly really likeable and held her own in every situation in a way that I respected so much.
“I chose you. Every single time, I chose you.”
But the the true star of the book for me was Kir himself. Not gonna lie, Lukas really left that man with some damage to work through and knowing how Lukas was in the first book, especially at the start, I already knew that was going to play a big role here. But what I didn’t expect was how human Kir felt. He wasn’t hardened in the same way, not shaped by years of being a Pakhan. There was a softness to him, something more raw. And watching his character development, the way he processed things and actually GREW, that’s what really got me.
Their dynamic was messy but in the best way. It’s very much a clandestine, push and pull kind of relationship where they’re constantly circling each other, playing mind games, testing boundaries (and sleeping with each other)…but still completely unable to ignore the pull between them. For me, this one hit way harder than the first. With Boardroom Sins, we were discovering everything as it unfolded. But here? We already know the truth, we know the fallout, we know what’s coming. So instead of the plot being the main driver, it becomes about the characters. What really happened behind the scenes, how everything affected them, and how they move forward from it. It really made their love the true centrepiece to the book and I loved that.

One thing I found really interesting was how the perspective shifts from the first book. The “villain” in one becomes the “hero” in another and vice versa, and it really makes you rethink everything you thought you knew. I love that Nicole did that and that’s where this book really shines. It’s about growth. About Kir stepping into himself despite everything he’s been through. About Jillian’s past finally coming to light and understanding what truly shaped her. It was way more emotional than I expected, especially for a stalker/assassin romance.
If the first book was more salacious and tension-driven, this one had heart. Honestly, I had such a good time with this series. It was fun, emotional, and just a really engaging read overall.

*Boardroom Mask* by Nicole Fox seriously pulled me in deeper the more I read it’s one of those stories where the tension just keeps building in the best way. The corporate setting isn’t just for show either; it really shapes the characters and their decisions, especially when secrets, power dynamics, and reputations are constantly at stake. It makes every interaction feel like it could shift everything.
Kir becomes even more interesting the more layers you see. He’s so used to being in control in every aspect of his life, especially in the boardroom, that watching that control slip—bit by bit—is incredibly compelling. Around Jillian, he’s forced to confront emotions he clearly isn’t comfortable with, and that internal struggle adds so much depth. There are moments where you can tell he wants to keep his distance for very real reasons, but he keeps getting pulled back in, and that push between logic and feeling makes his character feel complex rather than just “the powerful CEO type.”

The end..... I've said it before& I will say it again.... mafia ROMANCES will always& forever be my favorite...the MMC'S are always dark& gritty & broody & love their women with intensity& fierce protectiveness...& This book is no different... except it adds a layer to it that makes it even better, our mafia man is also our masked man... That's right....2 for the price of 1!!!!

Series but can be ready as a standalone. This book is about Kir& Jillian. Kir is sent to unalive our journalist Jillian, & instead becomes her masked stalker where the lines between love& hate become very blurred.
I loved this book because it showed the realines of people who have broken pasts. Jillian has had a hard life& gone through trauma most people will never understand, so when Kir comes in to kill her, you see her essentially giving up& letting him do what he came to do.... Learning that fighting doesn't always mean survival... But when that happens, something in Kir shifts, & he sees a bit of his pain in her .this she becomes his obsession
This is very much a cat & mouse game where both players are emotionally damaged, & find healing in the broken parts of the other person. The added layer of the mafia makes it a book you will be reading while sitting on the edge of your seat
I personally love Nicole Fox & their writing. They always do a phenomenal job at creating edge of your seat mafia ROMANCES that keep me coming back for more!!

This is the story of Jillian and Kirill (Kir) and picks up pretty much where book one left off. Kir is the son of Lucas And Jillian is the best friend of Rae.
Jillian is a reporter with the NYT and is working on a story about Lucas deceased wife. She doesn’t believe that his wife died of natural causes and there’s a huge story that could take her over the top.
Kir is of course Mafia and helps run the many businesses that he and his father built and is expected to take over the family’s empire at some point. When Kir is charged with “taking out the trash…. Re:Jillian, he breaks into her apartment and waits for her. His intention is to kill her, but after meeting her and seeing her fall into a fugue state from a previous sexual assault, he can’t bring himself to do it. Instead he goes back night after night and becomes involved… developing feelings for her.
As days pass, his father is impatiently waiting for him to “do the job.” It becomes increasingly apparent that he’s falling for her and he can’t do it and he knows if he doesn’t, his father will send someone else to do the job.
“Above me somewhere, Jillian is standing alone, wondering what the fuck just happened. I wish I knew how to tell her: I’m falling in love with you, little fox. I have to kill you before that happens.”
What will Kir do to keep Jillian? Will Jillian get her big story but lose Kir in the process? You’ll have to read it to find out. This is definitely a good book. I enjoyed it immensely. I will say that even though you don’t have to read Book one, I recommend you do before reading this one because the two are intertwined in places seeing as how it’s father and son. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Jillian and Kir's story!!!!
Boardroom Mask was a dark, addictive romance that pulled me in with its mystery, tension, and complicated characters. After reading Boardroom Sins, I was curious about Kir’s story, and this book gave a completely different side of him.
Jillian is an investigative journalist determined to uncover the truth behind the powerful Lazarev family. She knows she is stepping into dangerous territory, but she refuses to back down from the story she is chasing. What she doesn't expect is the masked man who enters her life and changes everything.
Kir Lazarev is sent into Jillian’s world for reasons that should make him her enemy, but instead, the lines between danger and desire start to blur. Behind the mask, secrets, and darkness is a man who becomes completely obsessed with the one woman he should stay away from.
I loved the tension between Kir and Jillian. Their relationship had that push-and-pull dynamic that makes dark romances so addictive. Jillian is strong, stubborn, and not someone who easily lets people control her, which made her the perfect match for Kir. Watching these two challenge each other while slowly revealing their vulnerabilities was one of my favorite parts of the book.
Kir was definitely an interesting character because there was so much more to him than what we saw in the first book. Seeing his struggles, his choices, and the way Jillian affected him added another layer to his character.
Overall, Boardroom Mask was a good dark romance filled with danger, obsession, secrets, and chemistry. I enjoyed Kir and Jillian’s story, and I’m definitely interested to see where the Lazarev family stories go next.

Boardroom Mask is the second story in the Boardroom Billionaires series. It is very suspenseful and entertaining. I was hoping we would get Jillian and Kir's story after reading the end of Boardroom Sins.
Jillian is a journalist who has been working on the mysteries behind Kir's family. His mother died but the truth has never been uncovered. Kir's father, Lucas, wants Jillian to be killed. Rae is Jillian's best friend and works for Kir and Lucas's company. Kir goes to Jillian's apartment as his father requested. He has a mask on and comes in through her window. She has no idea who he is and he tells her he has come to kill her. She fights him but then she lets him do what he wants. Kir can't stop coming to see Jillian. He can't kill her and has a connection with her. She eventually realizes it is him.
Jillian knows she shouldn't be attracted to Kir. She has an obligation to her job to get the story on his family. But every time they see each other their connection is more and more spicy. Their relationship is forbidden. She is keeping the secret from her friend Rae. He is keeping the secret from his father. They know the risks they are taking but can't stop.
I loved the connection between Jillian and Kir. They were such an interesting couple to read about. Their story is full of emotion, suspense, and spice. I loved their slow burn relationship and look forward to the next story from this very talented author.

In complete contrast to what I had assumed, ‘Boardroom Mask’ begins at the same time as the first instalment. And there is a surprising amount of developments that occurred prior to Lukas’ arrest. The love story of Kirill Lazarev and Jillian Pierce is tumultuous; an affair that is sexually charged and pursuant to the world of BDSM. Whilst we know that Kirill has failed on his mission to assassinate the inquisitive journalist, our preconceived understanding that it was due to his laziness and arrogance is completely off. Instead, the single heir to the Lazarev empire has fallen in love with the redhead. He exhibits a possession and interest that is beyond the understanding of a normal human brain, and fortunately, Jillian reciprocates his craziness eagerly. The ‘Boardroom Mask’ is much deeper and more reflective than what I had thought it would be; both main characters are broken and have experienced a cutthroat life. Whilst Jillian and Kir both rely on each other in moments of vulnerability, the threat of Jillian’s bounty makes it difficult for either party to be fully immersed in their relationship.
Jillian’s expectant release of an article that unveils the harsh truth of the Lazarev empire is also annotated in this novel—with a surprising turn of events that loyal readers would not have seen coming. The plot twist further fractures the nature of their relationship, as it is no longer fun and sexual; instead, it becomes transactional; a minor cat and mouse game. Nicole Fox ultimately sets a novel that is so far from sunshine and rainbows, that we truly don’t get any escape with humour or entertainment by side plots. From the onset, it is pretty explicit what we must endure in order to understand the complexities of these characters.
Whatever we had assumed about Kir and Jillian is completely dismissed in this book. Whilst the knowledge of the Kir’s craziness was never doubted by loyal readers, Jillian’s version of events in releasing the infamous article is tumultuous and deeply intriguing. The once straightforward and simple character is gone, and instead the journalist exhibits layers of trauma, regret, and complexity that is unknowing to many. The second instalment in the ‘Boardroom Billionaires’ series showcases Nicole Fox’s artistic pen in articulating tumultuous emotions, a complex plot, and creating an immersive world that invites the audience in. Whilst at times, you do want to scream at this book, you can’t help but appreciate the ways in which Ms Fox can bring that out of us.

This is Book 2 of Boardroom Billionaires. Book 1 (Boardroom Sins) is about Lukas & Rae... this book is about Kir (Lukas's son) and Jillian (Rae's best friend).
The books are interconnected standalones, but you will get a lot more out of the book by having read the first book... I really loved how the timeline of the 2 books are parallel... (it's really well written... you wouldn't know that fact unless you've read both books... there's very little that's repeated & you don't feel like you're missing out on anything).
It's also interesting, having seen things from Lukas & Rae's perspective (without giving spoilers - there's some drama going on with the business & a murder/death from the past), to now see it from Kir's perspective.
Kir is tasked with killing Jillian... and ends up falling for her... and she falls for him, even though he's been stalking her!! 😅

Boardroom Mask is unhinged in the best way: a masked stalker, a journalist digging her own grave, and a “no falling in love” rule that gets obliterated almost immediately. The tension is sharp and the vibes are very much dangerous man becomes emotionally compromised and doesn’t handle it well.
But what really got me was Kir. For a former killer-on-demand, this man fell fast, fell hard, and then just… kept falling. Under the mask? Not just a predator. More like a smitten kitten with a body count. His vulnerability snuck up on me and ended up being the heart of the story.
Jillian holds her own beautifully, and their dynamic is messy, addictive, and just the right amount of chaotic. Power plays by day, morally questionable rendezvous by night. It shouldn’t work, in any other circumstance it would never work, but for Jillian and Kir, it absolutely does.
Came for the stalker romance. Stayed for the emotionally wrecked assassin in love.

Sometimes, you find something when you weren’t looking!
I was quickly caught up in Jillian’s quest to get the front page story of a lifetime against Kir’s family, and it seems that she might reach that goal thanks to a tip from the medical examiner’s office. When her source goes silent, she fumbles with how to dig up a new source. Kir is none too happy with his father’s latest task to off a reported digging in to their family after remains were found fitting in to the timeline of his mother’s death. Kir believes that his father was the reason for his mother’s death, and hates his father for it. Yet when Kir steals himself inside Jillian’s apartment to do the deed, something else happens! The two may be mortal enemies, but kismet won’t hear of it. Jillian has a dark secret from her past that has made it impossible to be with a man, but Kir’s mask seems to mask it. When his father stops believing Kir will do the deed, he hires a professional to which Kir has become very protective of Jillian. To combat the conflict between father and son, Kir does the unthinkable with his father’s position in the company. How will it all end? You have to read to find out and your hearts will tear apart by Kir’s actions!

She is his. Kir soon faces a dilemma when he is unable to do his father's bidding; then his father will get someone else on the job. What will Kir do if this happens? He won't know who it will be or where it will happen. Will he be able to keep Jillian safe from the danger lurking in the shadows? Both are hiding secrets. Will their relationship survive if they come to light?

Great story but so many inconsistencies (especially the first half of book)
I loved this story and felt like it was a bit better than the first but like the first there were so many inconsistencies, especially in the first half of the book, mixing up parts of the book, calling him Kir in her head when he hadn't even revealed himself, mixing up the plot to where it made no sense and also a lot of spelling mistakes, typos or left out words that made it really aggravating to read and I almost stopped bc after 2 books with the same crap happening I was about fed up. I won't be reading the 3rd book.. But this one did end on a good note and a continuation of the first book that the first book seemed to leave out when it should have at least mentioned in the epilogue. The only thing about the actual story for Kir and Jillian is the fact that where Lukas had a contract out for her they just let it all go and it's never mentioned back to Lukas or Rae that he did that to Jillian or the fact of how or what they think of Jillian and Kir together... It's just a missed opportunity to have a good part of the two books come together with an issue that is solved and brings all of their relationships together... Just a bit disappointing..

I knew I was going to love Kiril’s story….
He was villainous but I had a feeling he was going to be more.
