I am at a loss for words. H.J. Spence just decided to take my entire world, throw it on its head and then leave me to deal with everything on the ceiling/floor. I was so wrapped up in this dystopian cyberpunk romantasy that I literally yelled after I read the last sentence. How could it be over? Why was it over? Why was there not more? What do you mean I finished 630 pages in two days?
I never thought in my life I’d be asking for a dark data daddy, but here we are. And Kael does NOT disappoint. The architect of the new future, he’s magicless and trapped in a digital cage of his own making. Until Lyra, an anomaly he didn’t see coming, threatens to change the world, and him forever.
This was absolutely haunting. Watching Kael destroy everything he knew about himself to build a future for Lyra was indescribable. This took burning the world down for love to a different level. Conflicted, tortured, and utterly controlling- he is everything you want in a “dark data daddy.” I didn’t know how badly I needed a story like this to come along and shake up my TBR, but let me tell you it’s a welcome sight. (Also be nice to Siri. Trust me.)
Glitchborn Heart hits shelves on August 31 and you better get your hands on a copy of this one. I’m telling you, you’ll never see tech the same way again. Better yet, take your happy ass over and pre-order this one. You do not want to miss it.

✨ARC Book Review✨
This book reminded me so much of Tron! I don’t have a lot of experience with software/electronic based romances, but I really enjoyed this one.
I was obsessed with the connection between Lyra and Kael. It was magnetic and palpable from the beginning.
Kael was such an interesting character. I loved how he was supposed to take her down but couldn’t let her go. That woman had a hold on that man! It was fascinating to watch him turn his whole world upside down to save her. And his nickname for her and the meaning behind it? I mean, he was seriously down bad! I felt like Kael had so much character development throughout this book!
Lyra felt relatable to me. I could relate to her feeling like she didn’t quite fit the mold. Her emotional reactions to her powers or glitches felt completely understandable. It was easy to sympathize with her and genuinely like her. After Lyra became trapped in software that Kael developed, she had to work through a lot of emotions before she could trust him again. I loved when they finally reconnected… the spicy scenes did not disappoint!
The ending!! OMG… the last page of this book had me in a chokehold. I honestly loved it, but it also left me speechless!

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. This is the first time i have read this Author and Cyberpunk but definitely did not disappoint and will continue with HJ!! This was a phenomenal book that takes you to a world full of technology and magic that will suck you in deep!! I was truly invested in these characters how things played out!! The mystery, romance, magic, and the twist in this book just absolutely phenomenal!! Be prepared for that ending though just wow!! Definitely need a book 2 now!! Chefs kiss HJ Spence!!

I'm a huge fan of cyberpunk and dystopian so this book had me interested from the moment I saw the promo for it. Magic and high futuristic tech? I'm in!
The MFC in this book remembers what most people forgot... The birth of magic. Corporate greed caused an event that sparked up magic in its citizens. Most anomalies are easy going and non threatening, but there are some magic users that are strong enough to rip the digital world to shreds with only their emotions. Our MFC and her brother are two of these very dangerous beings. Our MMC is a coder and inventor for the corporation. He is tasked with hunting these dangerous magic users and ridding them before they can cause too much damage. He's cold and calculating, until he meets one anomaly he can't quite explain...
This ended up being a very unique blend of Romantasy and Cyberpunk. Magic and Tech run this world. This is for fans of Masked Men, Forced Proximity (sort of), Mischievous Best Friend, Rope Play, and Multiple Conflicts!
My favorite part of this book is all the different problems occuring at once. Of course you have your corporate scum, but a corrupt family member and a jealous AI system are pretty neat things to throw in on top of it. It made for a really interesting story.
It did miss the five star mark for me because of all the unnecessary monologuing. A lot of the stuff the MMC says is repeating a lot of the same ideas over and over. It doesn't add to the story at all. This delays a lot of story progression. I feel like that could have been replaced with the lore of the city through rumors he may have heard or some back story that could have added to his character. Unfortunately, this made him seem a little dull. Other than this, it was a good read.
There are some mild triggers. Genocide, Corporate Corruption, and Rebellion are a few. There are some spicy scenes in this book but they are spread out and on the low end. This story focuses more on plot.

This digital dystopian pulled me in from the beginning with vivid descriptions of the world Lyra exists in. The playlist accompanying each chapter really helped set the scene and added to the immersive, Matrix meets Ready Player One feel of the story.
I did struggle with the pacing once I reached about the halfway point. There were several moments that felt like the story was building toward its conclusion, only for me to realize there were still hundreds of pages left. For me, that made it harder to stay immersed in the story and ultimately made the book feel longer than it needed to be.
I also found some of the spicy scenes difficult to connect with because of where they fell in the story. There were moments when the stakes were so high that I found myself thinking, “Now is not the time, we have a world to save!” That sometimes pulled me out of scenes that otherwise may have worked for me.
Overall, the world-building and concept were incredibly creative, and I loved the added experience of the chapter-by-chapter playlist. While the pacing didn’t completely work for me, readers who enjoy expansive dystopian worlds, immersive detail, spice, and longer reads may have a very different experience with this one.

Welcome to one of my top reads of this year. GBH is an innovative, uniquely creative sci-fi dystopian fantasy romance that will SERIOUSLY BLOW YOUR MIND. Heidi is an insanely talented mastermind with how intricate this future world of AI/tech is and how our world could possibly develop these issues as tech continues to take over what humans currently control.
We follow a dual POV from our MCs: Kael and Lyra. Lyra is simply just trying to survive and keep her and her brother safe. As U21s, they each have a forbidden magic that, if found, leads to either their death or their scientific exploitation. When Lyra is suddenly sucked into the city-wide technology program that runs everyone’s life, she is suddenly forced to become reluctant allies with her enemy, the creator of that program and dead-sexy child prodigy, Kael. While Kael finds himself immediately obsessed and head over heels for Lyra, Lyra struggles to trust the one man who has caused so much destruction in not only her and her brother‘s life but everyone else’s. However, as they continue to work together, Lyra realizes that what she knew to be truths may not be wholly fact. Perhaps there is actually much more devious plotting going on beneath the waves and her so-called enemy may not be as villainous to her as she thought.
Heidi created an amazing character-driven storyline that is so intricate, unique, and creative while also giving us a romance that is utterly epic. I did not want the story to ever end. This man, Kael, is book boyfriend goals. His obsession, protectiveness, ingenuity, recklessness, and dirty mouth are just delicious. The slow burn is so tantalizing that it gives you goosebumps. While we get some spicy moments, they are different than you would expect. Case number one: the rope scene. You must get this book just to read that rope scene. The characters are all ambiguous, morally grey, hilarious, individual, and just a delight in their own uniqueness. Go pre-order this book now.

I was completely captivated from the very beginning. From StarFell, all the way until the end. Experiencing everything through Lyra's eyes. The connection/chemistry between Kael and Lyra is tense and palpable.
“I like it because I can have you all to myself. Because every time you vanish into my system, I lose you and I don’t like losing things I want to keep.”
The world-building is next level. Think a sci-fi Tron (glowing neon) with a dystopian setting, mixing in a little magic. Come on man, they got glowing tattoos, how freaking cool is that?
“Safety is a lie people tell themselves. I’m not safe, a monster maybe. But I’m loyal. And deep down, you want that. You want this monster to chase you, to catch you. Stick with me Taiyō and you’ll quickly learn what it costs when I stop pretending to be civilized.”
Glitchborn Heart ends on quite the cliffhanger, leaving you starving for more. I cannot wait to see where HJ takes us in book 2. Iam in need of more Lyra, Jett and Kael.

Error 404 - words not found
Wow. I am blown away by the complexity of this book. It is hard to believe this is a debut. It is well written and brings in so many different things going on all at once. And that ending?!?!? Where's book two because I am not okay.
I absolutely loved the mix of technology, magic and the real world. HJ builds this highly elaborate world filled with a technological magic system and real world relationships.
This book gives Ready Player One mixed with Tron but makes it even better with the magic and crossover moments.
The chemistry between Kael and Lyra is undeniable. The tension gets so much thicker when who and what they each are cones out. Kael's entire life revolves around eliminating people like Lyra. However, Lyra helps him discover so much more about himself and who he has been working for.
I seriously read 74% of this book in one sitting....that is like 460 pages. I was absolutely hooked. That ending just had me blinking at the Kindle like wait....where's the rest....
This book gives you such compelling and complex characters wth so many things going bad all at once. The dystopian, cyberpunk, sci-fi, and romantasy all rolled into one shouldn't work but absolutely does.

Devoured absolutely devoured! This is the first ever cyberpunk read I've read and its offically pulled me over to the genre. The depth and the descriptiveness of the technology and magic made this an immaculate read. The twists within this read had me suprised and was exceptional in every way. If you like morally grey mmcs, enemies to lovers, and touch her & die then this is the read for you. Highly Recommend! I got this via the author and this is my voluntary review.

I enjoyed this story but personally had a hard time with some of the book’s pacing in the middle as well as the relationship development between the two main characters. Over all it was an interesting book and was refreshing to read something out of the norm. I’m interested in seeing where H.J. takes her story in book 2.

The story is just soo unique and interesting. I couldn't bring myself to put it down. The characters are very well written and so is the plot . Every little detail screams of the author's thorough research and hardwork. The book will remain one of my top reads from 2026.

Wow! What a ride! This book was freaking amazing! I loved every second of it.
I'm sure you have met many dark daddies, but have you ever met a Dark Data Daddy? NO? Then let me introduce you to the Glitch!
The story takes place in the city of Oneiro, a “neon-drenched city that never sleeps.”
Meet Lyra, a badass & fierce FMC that takes zero BS and is incredibly protective of her own. Then meet the Darkest Data Daddy of all, Dr. Kael Ryudon, control freak extraordinaire, AI lord, data genius, and so much more.
When these two characters collide, our adventure begins! They were never supposed to meet, let alone fall in love, but as fate would have it, they did!
This book is a roller coaster from beginning to end! And don't ever get me started on that ending!!!

I went into GlitchBorn Heart completely blind without rereading the blurb or checking other readers' opinions, and I'm so glad I did. Every twist and reveal caught me by surprise, making the experience that much more enjoyable.
H.J. Spence created a story that kept me invested from beginning to end. The characters pulled me in quickly, and I found myself especially drawn by Ash. I'm really hoping we get to learn more about him in the next book.
That ending absolutely broke my heart. The cliffhanger left me desperate for more, and I'll be counting down the days until the next book releases.
If you enjoy stories that keep you guessing and leave you emotionally invested, I definitely recommend picking this one up.

Glitchborn Heart is a dystopian style future society filled with magic and highly advanced tech. Lyra, whose magic starts glitching, is drawn into Dr Kael Ryudon’s lab. Kael is your “dark data daddy” type and he definitely loves being the one in control. He built the tech systems that run their town. Lyra finds herself fighting for her and her brother’s lives against magic, an evolving AI that is the jealous type, and her feelings over the very man she thinks trapped her. This was such a fun concept for a book, not like my typical genre and I loved the concept! I think that this world is unique and the tech magic is very intriguing. I would encourage you to give this book a try if you’re looking for a new magic system! I cannot wait to see where this series goes.

I honestly had a blast reading Glitchborn Heart. The easiest comparison would be Blade Runner, The Matrix, and Ghost in the Shell, but it also manages to feel completely original. The world is this incredible mix of neon-lit cyberpunk and magic, where technology, virtual realities, and power struggles collide in a way that kept me hooked from the first chapter. I loved exploring places like the Dreamnet and Gamenet, and the tech-magic system was fascinating. It felt immersive without being overwhelming, and I never wanted to leave the world the author created.
The characters were what really sold me on the story. Lyra is chaotic, emotional, stubborn, and impossible not to root for, while Kael is the complete opposite: controlled, calculated, morally gray, and absolutely magnetic. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is packed with tension, and the slow-burn romance had me fully invested. I also appreciated that the story teased different romantic possibilities early on, even though it eventually became very clear where Lyra's heart was headed. And honestly? It wasn't hard to understand the appeal of Kael. The chemistry between them is excellent, and their connection develops in a way that feels earned.

Lyra and her brother are one of the many U21’s who received magic powers the night the stars fell (of course, due to corporate manipulation no doubt). They are just trying to get by in a world that is led by corporations in the neon light of their holo-ads.
All that changed when she meets two very different men at an underground club one night. One has immense magic, the other has none. But for some reason the magic-less one intrigues Lyra. Little does she know he creates the virtual reality that U21’s take refuge in every night and makes U21’s that are a little too powerful disappear. Will this interest lead to her ruin or salvation?
Wow! What a ride! Firstly, it just made me depressed because Oneiro City feels inevitable more and more each day and in the not-so-distant future. It felt too real a threat for a dystopian future world. But then I kept reading. There were so many different elements and strings to follow.
The characters were presented so in depth that they seemed realistic even in this magic and tech blended world which can be hard to achieve. My only disappointment was it seemed the author couldn’t decide if she wanted to do love at first sight or enemies to lovers. I don’t really think you can blend both. It didn’t feel authentic, but I think they were trying to get across the deeper intrigue that started before she knew who he was. But other than that almost inconsistency, everything else was really captivating.
There was so much going on that you wanted to keep reading even though it is a hefty size. And that twist at the end leaves you wanting even more!! A little bit outside of my typical genre, but I really enjoyed this read. Thanks to the author and Hawthorn and Aster for this ARC!

One of my favorite parts was the worldbuilding and the way technology and magic come together. Oneiro City felt so immersive, and I loved slowly discovering all the layers of this world.
And then there’s Kael. Our beloved Dark Data Daddy™. 🫠💻🔥 The tension. The banter. The yearning. The morally-gray “I’d burn it all down for you” energy. Yeah… I get it now, y’all.
I also HIGHLY recommend listening to the chapter-by-chapter playlist (link in bio 👀) while reading! 🎶 It made the whole experience even more immersive and somehow made me feel like I was actually in Oneiro City.

In a highly controlled dystopian future society where magic and tech are intertwined, possessing power outside the carefully monitored confines of acceptable levels is a quick path to a quiet disappearance. Lyra and her brother Eli only have each other to rely on, so when both of them start glitching, they find themselves in way over their heads with no one to trust.
Kael possesses no magic of his own, but being a tech genius has given him godlike status, having designed the entire system of corporate checks and balances that keeps the population compliant. His cynicism means he is neither loyal to the mega-corp that owns him, nor sympathetic to the people who are victimized by his innovations. Nonetheless, to Lyra he is the enemy. A fact made all the more complicated when their mutual attraction morphs into an unhealthy obsession.
As Lyra and Eli face being used as weapons by opposing sides of a rebellion, Kael slowly starts to break free from his apathetic complacency. Turns out it just took a ghost in the machine to give him something worth fighting for.
This novel sits at the unique intersection of fantasy, sci-fi and romance - if you grew up on things like Neuromancer, Total Recall, The Fifth Element or Bladerunner, and have since fallen down the romantasy rabbit hole, then this book is for you.
I loved the author’s depiction of a society where people are isolated by design, to the point that human connection becomes an act of defiance. It’s a dystopia where even the sentient AI is unhappy, and the system benefits only the most corrupt.
“These cities are run by men who’ve never been told no, who’ve turned desire into product and obedience into design. They build systems where women are either decorative, silent, or simulated and then they have the audacity to say equality has been achieved.”

The chemistry between Lyra and Kael is next level. From the beginning, there’s this tension between them that just keeps building, and I was completely invested.
The world-building is unlike anything I’ve read before. It’s incredibly intricate and detailed, and the whole concept feels completely different from the dystopian worlds I usually read.
Lyra is strong and independent, but she’s also fiercely loyal to the people she cares about. I loved watching her slowly break through Kael’s hard exterior because once she does… this man would literally burn the world down for her. His feelings for her border on obsession and apparently that’s exactly the kind of thing I want in my dystopian romance.
And because these two clearly didn’t have enough problems already, throw in a jealous AI just to make things even more complicated.
I also need to mention Ash because I loved him. He was the perfect balance to Kael as his best friend, and I definitely want to know more about him.
And then THAT ENDING.
Wait… WHAT???
Safe to say I need the next book because you cannot just leave me there.

Dark data daddy, anyone? GlitchBorn Heart was literally one of my fave reads this year. I was hooked from chapter 1, this cyberpunk dystopian world was super intriguing!! And the tech magic was too cool, safe to say this genre is now a fave of mine.
I absolutely adored the tension between Kael & Lyra- literally from the start, the way he is supposed to "delete" her but can't & the way he is just so obsessed with her. Dr. Kael Ryudon is our mmc and he's the owner/coder of this corporate AI system and is supposed to get rid of magic users who are considered dangerous anomalies. This man is the definition of dangerous and calculated, I am obsessed with him.
With Lyra, I love having an fmc whose emotions and reactions to everything happening were so relatable, like she was always never supposed to fit in, I adored that. All of her emotions and her "glitches" felt so real. And I need to talk about the world building because wow, it is freaking wicked! If you love neon & dystopian cyberpunk vibes, you will adore this!
Oh & if you love cute nicknames, you'll love Kael's for Lyra 😍

Wow! I don’t even know where to start, this book was seriously everything I needed right now. I’ve been feeling so burnt out on romantasy and this one kicked my reading slump.
Glitchborn Heart was such a unique story filled with dystopian themes, cyberpunk vibes, and sci-fi elements all blended together with popular romantasy tropes to create a unique, thrilling, and compelling story. I found myself absolutely hooked from the beginning of the book and I am so mad at the cliffhanger this ended with! What do you mean I have to wait for book 2?! 😭
Glithborn Heart is filled with complex, broken characters that aren’t really looking to be fixed… they’re looking to be accepted, all the broken bits included. I found myself really drawn to the characters specifically because they aren’t straightforward and they highlight the complexity of humanity and goodness.
In all sincerity, this book was so fun and captivating. I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for something that feels different, fresh, and exciting.

I… don’t even know where to start.
I signed up to read this book because the name and cover caught my eye. I started reading it and was like “oh… this isn’t for me… it’s too dystopian and tech for me, I’m not going to understand a single thing… I’ll give it a couple more chapters though…”
oh. My. Gods.
Best decision I could have made, okay? It started picking up in that next chapter, and I WAS HOOKED.
The characters really come to life. The banter between Lyra and Kael was on par, but so was the banter between Lyra and Ash. The inter character relationships were multidimensional and real, hell you even got haywire AI usage!
Once I got into it, I could not stop get enough, I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know how it was going to end and if everything was going to work out… only to end on a cliffhanger! A devastating cliffhanger at that.
I will for sure be eagerly awaiting the next book to find out what happens!

Glitchborn Heart plugs you in to a whole new genre. It’s a mix of dystopian, cyberpunk and romantasy. I have never read anything like it. Spence breaks the barriers of what I thought was possible. She tests the waters between AI and human, and dares to ask the question of what it means to be alive.
My only issue with the story was that it sometimes feels a little contradictory, saying one thing but then saying or doing the opposite. This is a new genre for me, so it may take a little bit to wrap my head around it.
If you love found family, unique magic systems, humans trying to be gods, and endings that make you say, “well, dang! That’s not good,” you should definitely read this book.

I really enjoyed this book. The premise is so unique. I loved the tech based magic system and the futuristic dystopian world the author built.
The dark, “data daddy” MMC was great. I loved seeing his obsession and possession with the FMC. their interactions, especially since they had the physical barrier of her being trapped in the program, was so engaging.
I do feel like it was a bit hard to follow at times. The magic system and the technology were cool, but sometimes I had to just trust fall a suspend my disbelief more than I prefer when reading.
I also wish we spent more time with the climax of the story. Everything wrapped up so quickly that it took me a bit to wrap my head around how it all turned out.

Glitchborn Heart was completely outside my usual reads, but I became so invested in the world and the characters, and honestly, we need spin-off books for every single one of them!
The romance is a slow burn with some mildly explicit spice. I would say this is a story designed for readers who love really getting lost in world building elements.
There may have been some water leaking from my eyes at one point… and then THAT cliffhanger.
I definitely need book two.

Imagine you could immerse yourself in a neon drenched world where fans of Bladerunner, the Matrix, and Ghost in the Machine will be deep in their element. This is Glitchborn Heart and yet Glitchborn Heart is so much more.
Two that were never meant to touch. Two that were never meant to fall in love. They were supposed to hate each other, especially when her soul becomes trapped in his creation as an AI entity.
Kael is the Darkdatadaddy that is cold, precise, direct, focused, .... Kael is perfect. Kael has no space for chaos, all he knows and wants is Order.
Lyra is a wildfire of uncontrolled magic and reckless defiance. She should hate everything that Kael is a part of and stands for but she cannot resist his pull upon her.
Dr. Kael's AI system was supposed to be retribution and freedom but now with Lyra ensnared in the system she has become the key to all that will change life as they know it.
The magic and powers in Glitchborn Heart are so fascinating and the characters are even more intriguing. If you could create characters that exist as code, neon lights, and pure energy then each and every one of the characters in this story throb and radiate such.
Don't let a cliffhanger shock ending lead you astray because there is so much more that needs to be unraveled in this series. Lyra is a wildfire of uncontrolled magic and reckless defiance. She should hate everything that Kael is a part of and stands for but she cannot resist his pull upon her.
Dr. Kael's AI system was supposed to be retribution and freedom but now with Lyra ensnared in the system she has become the key to all that will change life as they know it.
The magic and powers in Glitchborn Heart are so fascinating and the characters are even more intriguing. If you could create characters that exist as code, neon lights, and pure energy then each and every one of the characters in this story throb and radiate such.
Don't let a cliffhanger shock ending lead you astray because there is so much more that needs to be unraveled in this series. Kael, Lyra, Ash, Jett, Ember, and Eli were all so beautifully written and I enjoyed watching them interact.
