Epiphanies: (How) To Be A Werewolf

Rate this book
Joshua not only missed the big game, had all of his scholarships pulled, and been banned from just about every college in Texas, but he's been expelled from his high school and has a court order barring him from even setting foot on school grounds.

And adding insult to injury he's got to finish high school in Electra!

However, he quickly learns that Electra isn't everything it's been made out to be. Sure there's more crime, but that's only because Wichita Falls sends all of its problems there. As towns go, it's small - bordering on tiny. The high school is poor, and the school body is less than a tenth of what he's used to. But they've got a good baseball team and Joshua's a fairly good shortstop as well as a power hitter.

Joining the team definitely helps Joshua with making friends at the school as well as connections in town. However he's still got problems to deal A deputy who hates him, a judge who is blatantly on the take, and someone with a lot of money or influence who no longer just wants Joshua to go to prison - now he wants him dead!

Then of course there's the small matter of his being a werewolf. While he's not sure exactly what it means to be one, he's starting to learn, and his newest girlfriend's mother it turns out knows a lot more about these things than he does.

Well, looks like I'm gone now.
Check out Valens Legacy if you haven't already, yeah it's old now, having come out in 2017 - positively ancient.
It was fun while it lasted and I sold a lot of books.
I also launched a lot of tropes and memes that a lot of folks now copy.
Thanks for the good times and thanks for the memories.

Meh, it's okay. A weaker version of the Valens series. That had a better balance between the harem aspect, the magic system and the story. This one is mainly the harem aspect. The story isn't really progressing. The MC is being set up, everyone knows it. He has been attacked multiple times, yet nobody can do anything? What the hell is his lawyer doing? If the judge was that corrupt, why can't they go to state or federal programs to help? It just dragging things out. The author doesn't need to reveal everything but hasn't really revealed anything.

It's meh' good. not his best.
Urban Fantasy/Harem/Sex Scenes
This feels like a low effort project (despite how really hard I'm sure he worked at it). As with book 1 the dialog is stilted and cringey. The scenes where the MC parades his 3 girlfriends at parties & social events did not impress me. I was skipping the sex scenes before the end.
But if you can gloss over the mild creep factor, the story is engaging in a basic action/pulp drama way.
(I am questioning everyone's intelegence that they still think MC parents died in an accident)

Stryvant cut back on the dirty boring descriptions of sex, that always read like they were written by horny 13 year old boy. Thank God for that! As that is always the worst part of his books. Other than that it was a good book. But it did fall off from the 1st book in that the MC was still bumbling around like a dufus obsessed with being a "nice guy" to his detriment. Far too much worthless filler was added trying to grow a stupid harem of MY WOMEN! But he finally seems to have manned up, grew a spine, and started thinning out his enemies. I am liking the story less, but will still read the next book and hope for the best.

Another cracker

This is yet another cracker of a story. It may be slightly slower paced than some of his other work (although I had not noticed it being slower paced) but the story still progresses fast enough to really hold my attention. I bought the book late morning, today, and have already read it once. I am about to enjoy it for the second time. Definitely worth every penny.

Great Series

This, like the Wolfhound series and everything in that universe, is just simply great storytelling. I’m all in on this story and already dreading the end. I’d personally hope for more than just a trilogy, but I’m a firm believer in respecting a person’s decisions in regarding their craft and I think the author mentioned only making this a trilogy. Anyway, you keep writing to this standard and I, for one, will keep reading!

well worth the read

The author did a great job expanding the story. From what he wrote on Patreon, the next book will wrap up the series. Kind of refreshing, really- I’m starting to tire of infinite series— never was a Perry Rhodan fan, and a three book arc allows an author to have the time to tell his tale without growing stale. Thanks, John for a pleasant read.

Too much fun!

One thing I like about the author's work is that he never takes himself too seriously. He tells a good story with lots of action and interesting aspects to it but doesn't forget to make it fun. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this very enjoyable story arc good work

Great sequel!

If you liked the first book then this one is even better. Well written with great characters and dialogue. The story is very engaging regardless of the genre and one of the more unique in this genre. Given how good this authors other works are, this is not surprising.

still going strong and the mystery deepens

Enjoying the characters and locals, takes place in a part of the states I have never been to, but thinking I might now. The storyline continues and the mystery is getting more involved, looking forward to the next books. Hope there is an audible in the works!

I really like this new (trilogy or is fivelogy?) of Jan Stryvant. I was disappointed and surprised to read that the genre moved away of what he likes to write. I hope we will see book 4 and 5 pretty soon.

If you are person (man or woman) who likes a magnetically written book about urban fantasy with a slice of harem you are in the right place. Pick it up, read it and write the review it deserves!

Great author

I really enjoyed this book. I followed the author on Patreon. I enjoy the specifics that the author gets into for some of his characters roles, as well as the relationships he develops.

Good 2nd book

Josh is still being plagued by unknown people for unknown reasons, but he's beginning to get some things ironed out...and increasing his harem size. His trust fund may finally open to him, along with possibly identifying who is pulling strings...

Really fun

Simply put. If you liked the first book, then you'll likely like this one as well. Especially as it it picks up right where the first one left off.

I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Highly recommended

Great follow up to a new series

This was great. Just as good as the first. And honestly I can't wait for the next installment. This is starting to rank up there with his Portals series.

I left a pretty lengthy review in the last book

I won't need to do it on this one

This book was better. The main character actually made progress. There were clues and discoveries. Things happen. It was actually a good story start to finish. Very happy about this

Part 2 is awesome

Lots of bedroom stuff, so be aware if that's not what you're in to, but the story and character development are outstanding. You watch the main character's inner Alpha come alive right before your very eyes!

Young werewolf fighting back

College humor and very adult situations but still a fun read. Mixing together a werewolf, a priestess, a kinky geek and a part succubus and the fun abounds while wrapped in a mystery.

Great story

Josh and his girlfriends are starting to unravel the threads of his past. Who were his parents and why was he left with the trust. Who benefits from him getting arrested, or killed?

Good second

This was a great quick read. Just the kind of read I needed yesterday. It did keep me up past my bedtime so i waited until this morning to write this review. I'll start the next book now and let you know what i think at the end.

Fun and exciting series

It's really good harem modern fantasy. An underdog fighting the system out to get him, only for the system to hit a wall of wolf and the finding out part of that lovely phrase. Characters are go9d, fun, and 3 dimensional.
