I decided to give ol' Zig another try since I liked the first book. He has a fun accent to listen to. Especially when he gets going and talks really fast. Plus it seems he lived right here in Dallas/Plano
even. He's made a lot of recordings and books. He recommends listening to his books for dozens fo times so that you practically have it memorized and apparently people have done that. I don't think I could do that.

Time for notes:

Happiness is not a where and a when but a here and a now.

Being born without arms isn't a problem but a condition. It's when we make problems out of things that ruin happiness. Like when people make excuses for their disabilities and use them as a thousand foot crutch. I hate that. "Oh, he has Cerebral Palsy" (using it as justification or an excuse where as this one "Oh, he has Cerebral Palsy?" (as in a shock of amazing that the person is still functioning despite his short comings.

You've got to be before you can do, ad you've got to do before you can have.

The greatest cause of failure is trading what we want most to what we want now. I don't know if he coined this phrase.

Tell many people your 'give-up' goals, EX give up drinking. Only share with a few close people you're go-up goals. I don't quite know what he means by a go-up goal at the moment. I guess the opposite of give up maybe.

If we make exceptions they later become the rule.

Failure is the line of least persistence.

You pay for the price of a bad marriage, you enjoy the benefits of a good marriage. Yeah

When people have fun doing what they're doing, they're going to do a better job.

If the outlook isn't good then do an uplook.

Tomorrow is the greatest labor saving device.

What you get by reaching your goals is not nearly as important as what you become. Amen.

We remember when we identify. That's why parables are effective.

A secure individual is never made to feel inferior by the insecure people in life.

Security determines the way you handle situations in life, particularity in your relationships.

You are what you are and where you are because of what's going on in your mind. You change what you are by changing your mind. What you feed your mind determines your appetite.

Immigrants are four times as likely to become a millionaire as native born. They make an opportunity of it whereas a regular guy makes a job out of it.

If your familiar with Zigs work - this won’t be anything new but is a compilation of some his best talks - he was a good blessed storyteller to get a message across - about goals and resilience needed to achieve them in this instance. But a nice joy nevertheless listening to his material, even if familiar— after a long time. Stilled missed RIP 🥹

If I had to pick one quote from the book, it would be:

"You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great."

This hits hard because it’s such a simple but powerful truth. So many people get stuck waiting until they feel ready or good enough, but the real secret is just starting, no matter where you are. You don’t need to be perfect or have everything figured out. Taking that first step is how you actually get better. The more you do, the more you grow. It’s all about embracing the process, knowing that progress happens when you take action, even if it feels messy at first. This quote reminds me that getting started is what really matters, and everything else will follow.

Great motivation, yet a bit outdated and very little recognition of famous goal oriented women. Too many references of Jesus in relation to slave owner men and presidents, but otherwise a very integral piece to get you motivated and vilified on your dreams.

More a 2.5 star. A lot of self promotion, a bit of religion, some politics, and a few comments that would probably not be considered PC today.

On the plus side a lot of the tips are useful if you haven't heard them yet. Nothing new here. Still more enjoyable than many books in this genre.

It's similar to a previous 5 hour version of Ziglar On Goals audio that I had my staff listen to when they joined the company.

This version has clips from his son and is a bit longer. It has quite a bit more religious content which as an atheist I didn't connect to as much as the original.

Zig in general is amazing so it's going to be a good wholesome, old school, folksy motivation that does the job. But.. I do prefer the original a bit more for those reasons.

Yes, Ziglar:

Through this book, you spoke to me from the top in spirit and I get the message and it is driven home. Another great checkup from the neck up for me...
