Love isn’t always like it is in the movies … or is it?
Amy has moved to the city that never sleeps, and now she’s looking for love.
But after a string of dating disasters it seems that finding Mr. Right isn’t quite as easy as Amy first thought.
Following in the footsteps of her favourite New York movies Amy is determined to have that romantic Manhattan moment. But like all good romances – love often turns up in the most unexpected of places…
A heart-warming, 23 page short story from best-selling author, Claudia Carroll, this is the perfect read for Valentine’s Day.
Claudia was born in Dublin and is a graduate of UCD, the College of Music and of the Gaiety School of Acting. Since then she has worked extensively as an actress on the Irish stage, but is probably best known for her role as TV’s Nicola Prendergast in the long running Dublin soap opera, ‘Fair City.’
In A New York Minute is a short story, so I'll try to make my review as short as it can be.
Claudia Carroll is an author I can't help but notice on my Goodreads page every once in a while, in a „similar books“ section. As a devoted chick lit reader, browsing books is what I do on regular basis, so it is no surprise that her books cought my attention with their beautiful and sweet covers (all of her covers are gorgeous, that is a fact! Even this one is so astonishing, I could stare at it and forget about time).
The one and main reason why I decided to pick In A New York Minute as my first Claudia Carroll read is that it was short and it was free. From that, I figured out I can decide whether I should buy some of her already released work.
In 23 pages Claudia Carroll managed to grab my attention, make me appreciate her writing style and won me as a reader.
The story follows woman named Amy who moved to New York and is trying it's dating scene. The writer described New York so well that the whole time while reading I had that New York vibe (you know, the one you have when watching Sex and the City).
It would be a shame if I'd talk too much about this story since it is pretty short and giving anything away would be a sin, but I willd tell you that out of all the reads I had last month, In A New York Minute was my favorite.
I liked everything about it and the only thing that I would change is a little detail closer to the end, but even with that it was a great read that I am glad I picked up.
I highly recommend it to every chick lit fan. It is free and short, so it is a win case.
As for me, I can't wait to read Carroll's full lenght novels and it makes me so happy to see that there are a lot of them to choose from.
Amy is new to New York, she's been transferred over for one year and is living with her sister, she's full of optimism and dreams and is determined to find the love of her life, after all it happens time and time again in all her favourite movies so why shouldn't it happen to her and while the path may not always be smooth she knows she'll get there in the end. This is such a nice sweet funny read and the 3 stars I've given is not a negative it's more a reflection of the length.
A very sweet short story that makes the reader want to book flights to JFK immediately! A look at the crazy dating world in the city that never sleeps. Great references to my favourite movie, ever, Sleepless In Seattle. Perfect to get you in the mood for Meet Me In Manhattan, the latest release from Claudia Carroll. Now, pass me a bagel...
If you love your NYC romance movies and the whole glamour and romance that New York offers then this is a read for you. Dating disasters, movie references, NY gorgeousness, and one witty Irish heroine.
A really sweet, very short novella about dating a few wrong men until a man with no agenda turns the corner for Amy who has actively been looking for love.
This was a very short, sweet read and it was just what I wanted to read on a lazy Sunday afternoon!! The story centres around Amy who has moved to Manhattan for work. She has moved in with her sister and now wants to try her hand at dating to find the man of her dreams. After a few quite disastrous dates she finds a man where she never thought of looking. This was a good introduction to the author and I will definitely be reading more from her!
It took me no time at all to get into the story. Easy-to-read. A fun and lighthearted writing style, which is what I like. Dating dramas are always fun to read about. But it’s very short. Maybe too short for my liking. I have always loved Carroll’s full-length books and they’re worth 5 stars, this short is just shy of that. But still enjoyable!
I really enjoyed this short story from Claudia Carroll. It was a good read and having never been to New York I could visualise all the places described with the movie references.
Although this book was short and sweet, I really enjoyed it. Amy trying to find love is how I feel right now haha you have to date the bad apples to get the perfect one.
A sweet short story about online dating in Manhattan, New York. It's a little open-ended, but the reader can guess pretty well what might happen afterwards.
It is strange that New York (along with a few other cities) has been romanticised by the media. Movies, songs and books all sell it as the most romantic city in the world. New York is the setting for the Claudia Carroll short In a New York Minute.
Thirty-something Amy has wangled a job transfer for one year to the most exciting city in the world and she is determined to make that year count. Amy plans to do this by falling in love. She decides to date a number of men in specific, famous locations around the city. However, like all bourgeoning love stories, Amy’s dates don’t seem to go to plan.
In a New York Minute is a simple classic fairy tale love story about finding Mr Right in the right place at the right time. There is nothing more to it really. The story is too short for you to really fall in love with the hero or bond with the heroine. It just leaves you with a feeling of indifference.
This story is nice. That is it. It won’t change your life; it probably won’t even change your day but it is nice.
In a New York Minute by Claudia Carroll is available now.
This is the first time I have read a Carroll book. Maybe I wasn't meant to start with this novella as I found it very predictable and a little rushed.
The novella is only about 25 pages long and it is very difficult to try and get a plot into that amount of pages. I found that part of the stories were very rushed. Such as the dates, I thought these could have been extremely funny and clever had they been a few pages longer.
There are many references to Sleepless in Seattle, which is a film I personally have not seen, not that this mattered. It was very easy to follow and had some lovely moments in it.
It was a cute story, but due to the length of it and the lack of development of the characters I felt I could only give it 3*. It is an ok read if you want something to fill 15 minutes.
It is also free on Amazon at the moment so really there is little to complain about.
I loved every single bit of this little novella. It was cute, hearth-warming and witty. It put a smile on my face. I couldn't believe it was over after 30 pages already. I would have loved to read a lot more about Amy. She was a character I instanly liked and I'm sad to let her go just yet. In A New York Minute has had such a great potential to be a full length novel. It makes me overly excited to pick up Claudia Carrolls latest release Meet Me In Manhattan very soon! This is your perfect read to pass by lunch break. In A New York Minute is available for free on Amazon, don't miss your chance to get your copy to get in the mood for Meet Me In Manhattan.
I loved the cover for this, makes you feel like you could step inside the story. Although very short i enjoyed hearing the settings and descriptions of New York. Amy visited some of the most famous landmarks, which made you fall in love with the city. Amy goes on several disastrous dates after trying her hand at online dating. Looking forward to Claudia's new book 'Meet Me in Manhattan' because after all who doesnt like a New York setting. The 3 stars on this is really only the reflection of the length.
A cute story, if only it could of been longer. My only critic would be the couple of grammar mistakes but other than that I loved it and can't wait to read her other books....
This was a short story but wasn't a great read it's about a girl who goes on different dates and says want happens. I found it difficult to read for some reason
Very good short story. Funny and everyone will relate to the disasters. The happy ending is just right. Very enjoyable but wished it was slightly longer story.
