Review: Sixty Days Sleeping with the Shadowkin
(Monstrous Matrimony #7 by Bree Kincaid)
I truly love this series. Every time Bree Kincaid releases a new Monstrous Matrimony book, I wait for a quiet day with no distractions and jump in with both feet — and this one was absolutely worth it.
This story follows Siyani, the town’s resident hair‑braiding magician and one of my favorite side characters finally getting her moment. She’s already done her first sixty‑day temporary marriage, which ended amicably because her partner wasn’t into women. They stayed best friends… but now she has a problem. Every eligible man in Wayhome has decided she’s their destiny, and they’re circling her like dogs in heat. They block her path to work, hover around her booth, and pester her on the way home. She’s filed so many reports with the Council they could fill a library wing, and still nothing changes.
Enter Xulth’tadar — or “Zully,” because Siyani refuses to wrestle with all those syllables. He’s the most feared shadowkin in town, and when he walks through the market, people scatter. Siyani has a lightbulb moment and asks if he’ll pretend to be her boyfriend to scare off the pests.
But Zully has his own problem: he hasn’t slept more than an hour at a time in ages because he hears every whisper of fear around him. Except… when Siyani is near, the noise stops. So he counters with a proposal: a sixty‑day Marriage Vow, shared bed included, so he can finally sleep — literally sleep — and she gets the protection she needs.
She agrees, with the firm condition that the bed is for sleeping only. Turns out that’s exactly what he wanted.
From there, everything spirals in the best possible way. The single men take offense, tensions rise, and the cozy‑ominous tone this series does so well kicks into high gear. I won’t spoil the rest, but I read it in one day and will probably reread it a few more times. That’s how much I adore this world and these characters.
Bree Kincaid continues to deliver heartfelt, funny, monster‑sweet romances that make me grin like an idiot. This one was no exception.

Perfect
This timely and relatable story was absolutely perfect. The couple was perfectly matched. The nuisance was eventually handled, though his presence really spoke to modern times as well. Zully and Siyani complimented each other nicely and the spice was great. It's so nice to see more dialogue in the stories compared to the earlier books. They're great, whether it's banter, truth telling, or dirty talk.
As always, the larger, quiet aspects of Wayhome or this universe in general is very intriguing to me. Even if we don't return to Wayhome, I do hope this universe shows up in the future. 🤌🏾🖤

Zully is Everything
The knowing this is your person and willingly leaning into it. No fight, no withdrawal, just acceptance. Both the MMC and the FMC allowed each other to be authentically themselves and were better for it. And yes, we all love consent-forward men.

Loved this story! The shadow monster and the human have to learn to trust that is indeed love. And the off world learns what harassment means.
