Tiggy Jones Mystery #6

An Alias or Two

Rate this book
A mysterious postcard

A church with secrets

More than one suspicious death …

When mystery author Tiggy Jones is looking for ideas for her next book, she dives into a filing cabinet full of old case notes given to her by a former forensic scientist. But many of the cases are too well-known or too technical to turn into fiction and just as Tiggy is about to give up, she notices a folder so thin she almost missed it.

Surely it’s empty.

It isn’t.

And the postcard it contains leads Tiggy and her sleuth-dog Raider to investigate the heated happenings in a local village church.

But as Tiggy considers adding a murder to liven up her fictional version of the mystery, real events start to show that under the surface something else is going on …

Mystery author Tiggy Jones was looking at spicing up the new story she was currently writing when Baxter, her friend and newly licensed Private Investigator, told her of the strange package he'd received at his home. It wasn't even addressed to him, and there was no return address. What should he do? Open it? Keep it until such time the addressee was found? And so it seemed, this rather odd event was the beginning of a mystery Tiggy could possibly fictionalise to work with her book.

Raider, Tiggy's Dalmador, was an important part of the PI team, named Spotted! (after Raider of course), and the team made great inroads into their investigations. When a person they knew was arrested for the murder of his wife, and the little dog, Custard had also gone missing, Tiggy and the team started digging deeply. Proof was needed, but was she alive or dead? And where was Custard? What would be the outcome of this mystery?

An Alias or Two is the 6th in the Tiggy Jones Mystery series by Aussie author Virginia King and I enjoyed it very much. Plenty of twists and turns, lots of intrigue and of course our adorable Raider, who proved himself time and again. I'm already looking forward to #7 in this excellent series and highly recommend it and An Alias or Two.

With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read and review.

Another brilliantly twisty outing for Tiggy, Baxter and Raider in this sixth instalment in the Devon-based mystery series.

And in this book, I finally get what I’ve been hoping for since the first, as Tiggy and Raider get to ‘officially’ join Baxter’s Spotted! detective agency, even if only as associates or consultants! Not that you need to have read the first book, or any of the others, to appreciate this story, as each of the book plots stands alone perfectly well and contains any background information you need. However, I will give my usual mantra here, which is that you should read them all anyway because of how good they are!

There is more than one mystery to solve here, as Baxter is dealing with a misposted parcel and Tiggy is on the trail of a penitent postcard writer to help with her latest plot, until she stumbles across another real-life plot and can’t resist the lure of more ‘ground-truthing’. All the threads weave neatly in and out of each other, encompassing troubled teens, dog-breeding (and Raider getting to be an exemplary Dalmador breed ambassador!) and a few re-wilded beavers among other subjects.

It is always a pleasure to read a well-crafted, immersive and intriguing mystery story and this one fits the bill from beginning to end. I would recommend the Tiggy Jones mysteries to anyone looking for traditional-but-modern British mystery stories, deftly incorporating folklore and local legends, but rooted in very real characters that start to feel like family.

Mystery author Tiggy Jones is on the hunt for a storyline to kickstart her latest book. The result is the twistiest mystery in the series so far. Tiggy gets a lot more than she bargains for in this brilliant and clever page-turning story! As always, she is accompanied by her dog Raider who proves to be invaluable at finding clues and offering essential support. PI and friend Baxter is growing in confidence as he assists Tiggy while also solving a case of his own. And other much-loved and quirky characters appear along the way. The complex strands of the story and clues come together perfectly at the end - no mean feat! Reading these wonderful books is like returning to a favourite place and spending time with people you know and love. I already can’t wait for Book Seven in the Series…

An Alias or Two is book #6 in the Tiggy Jones Mystery series by Virginia King.

If you want a book that you won’t be able to predict how it will end, this book is the book for you. I love how what seems to be a random bit of information can end up relating to something else and you realize it was actually an important clue. I really enjoy the twists that take the story in a totally different direction and yet they make sense. I also like how Baxter is written, and as he grows up, Tiggy‘s trying to navigate protecting him versus letting him be the young man that he has become.
I’m always amazed at how all the story threads wrap up at the end. I can’t wait for Tiggy and Baxter’s next adventure.

Another great story from Virginia King.

This had a few more twists and turns than normal, given there were three mysteries being unravelled here. I loved it. Baxter is developing into quite the astute young man, showing way more maturity than your typical eighteen year old. Raider's role has gone from the cute spotted pup to a finder of clues and rescuer of those in danger.

If you love mysteries that constantly keep you guessing; with characters you can grow fond of; no offensive language and a storyline that holds your attention, then the Tiggy Jones Mystery Series is for you. Happy reading.

It all started with a postcard...

I love everything by this author, but she has really outdone herself this time! Did I stay up way too late reading this? Yes, yes I did! I think this had more twists than past books and so much going on. Baxter is really coming into his own and of course Raider still steals the page. Plenty of other quirky characters, some old and some new. Postcards, bones, a mysterious package, and an alias or two! I was kept guessing until the very end.

I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

This series keeps getting better! The mystery is original, involving everything from an old church to beavers to dog breeding to a refuge for runaways. As always, I enjoy the cast of recurring characters, and the new characters are complex and vivid. Tiggy’s adventurous spirit carries the story through unpredictable twists. Baxter’s approach to investigations shows his personal and professional maturation. They make a wonderfully unlikely and effective team. Any of the books could stand alone, but read the whole series. It’s more fun.

Typical Tiggy: As she fleshes out ideas for a new book, she is pulled into another quandary, along with her illustrious partners, P.I. Baxter and her faithful dog, Raider. This investigation, centered on strange events in a local village church, is another well-written mystery, containing strong characters and a twisted plot that held my attention, keeping me reading to the wee hours. I thoroughly enjoy Ms. King’s books; I’m never disappointed!

Tiggy, Baxter and Raider have their work cut out for them as they work together to solve a mystery. With additional help from their friends, they take us, the readers with them. As always, there is never a dull moment. This book does not disappoint. Another great addition to this interesting series.

As always, brilliant! I love the convoluted plot and the many threads that needed to be pulled to unravel it. I am also enjoying Baxter and Harry, both of whom are growing up into such intelligent and insightful young adults. And Raider, of course, is a star, and a half!!

With each "Tiggy" book I read, I say "this is the best one yet". And I say it again...this is the best one yet! An intriguing mystery with surprising characters, twists and turns. The main characters continue to "mature" - Tiggy is investigating mysteries with ease, Baxter has his own P.I. firm and maybe a budding romance? Raider continues to provide valuable assistance. The layers are peeled back one at a time to reveal the answer to the mysteries in this book. You won't guess the end of this one!
