If you were to ask Holly Somers how life is going at the moment she wouldn’t have a clue how to answer you… On the one hand she’s embarking on a retro-fabulous road trip in her vintage ice cream van all the way from Cherry Pie Island to the South of France. Plus, she’s sharing the journey with Wilf Hunter-Brown (quite possibly the most attractive man she’s ever met!)
On the other? Well, apart from being unsure as to whether the rickety old ice cream van will actually make it to the Riviera, she and Wilf had a one-night fling a few weeks ago. Even worse, it seems there’s an unexpected little consequence of their impromptu night together. Life on Cherry Pie Island definitely hasn’t equipped Holly with knowledge of the best way to tell a super-rich entrepreneur with a womanising reputation that he’s about to become a Dad!
Despite the heat of the Provencal sunshine you’d think you’d be able to keep cool inside an ice cream van – but the temperature is definitely rising. And with time running out to tell Wilf the truth, Holly’s dream roadtrip is fast becoming a nightmare on wheels! There’s no denying that this will be a journey to remember. When it comes to sundaes, Holly has always been partial to the more traditional flavours - but something’s telling her that this could be the time to take a chance and try something new…
Jenny Oliver is the bestselling author of The Summerhouse by the Sea - the PERFECT book for your summer reading! Out May 18th. Her book The Sunshine and Biscotti Club, set in sunny Tuscany, was nominated for the Best Contemporary Romantic Novel at the RONA awards. Jenny wrote her first book on holiday when she was ten years old. Illustrated with cut-out supermodels from her sister's Vogue, it was an epic, sweeping love story not so loosely based Dynasty. Since then Jenny has gone on to get an English degree and a job in publishing that's taught her what it takes to write a novel (without the help of the supermodels). She wrote her first book The Parisian Christmas Bake Off on the beach in a notebook that would end up covered in sand each afternoon and damp from the sea. Nowadays her inspiration comes from her love of all things vintage, a fascination with other people’s relationships and an unwavering belief in happy ever after! If you are looking for some bite-size reads why not try her Cherry Pie Island novella series. The first five books - The Grand Reopening of Dandelion Cafe, The Vintage Ice Cream Van Road Trip, The Great Allotment Proposal, One Summer Night at the Ritz and Four Weddings and a White Christmas are out NOW! This was another great, quick read in the Cherry Pie Island series. But it was very different from the first book. It's just as heart-warming and sweet and has that same can't-put-down readability but the characters really stand out.
I liked that the characters from the first book weren't forgotten about and still featured in some way.
As I read on in this series it becomes more obvious that this book isn't so much about the characters, and that it's really about an old lady called Enid who touched everyone deeply before she died.
Book 2 of the Cherry Pie Island 5 part series. So book 1 was Anna and Matt’s story, and book 2 is Holly’s story who is Ann’s friend and we first meet her in book 1. I’m also delighted to say that Anna does make a fair few appearances throughout book 2, which was lovely and so very nice to be reacquainted with her.
So Holly’s story was fairly enjoyable, but I did feel that something was missing, and so I didn’t love this story as much as I’d hope too. When reading the story, it just seemed to be very fast paced without including all related details required in order for the story to flow seamlessly from one event to the next. I felt as if there were words/scenes left out. I guess this is in part due to the length of the story, which is a short story, rather than full length.
Despite that I did enjoy getting to know Holly and the father of her baby Wilf, seeing how they interacted with each other and whether they would end up as a couple or not.
Also in this story, we get to meet Wilf’s sister Emily, who will feature in book 3 of this series, which will be her story. So I’m looking forward to giving that a go.
The second Cherry Pie Island book follows Anna's friend Holly who is pregnant from a one-night romance with her childhood crush. Not ideal, right? Especially if said childhood crush is annoyingly stubborn and you are afraid of letting yourself fall in love. The fact that the book is mostly set in France also doesn't do it any harm.
This one is the sequel to Anna's story from book one. But it can easily be read as a stand-alone book.
As with all Jenny Oliver books I've read so far, I can only praise the writing style. It just never lets you go which is exactly what I need in a good book.
This is the second in the Cherry Pie Island series, although it is primarily set in France. It takes up another of the characters from the first book as she deals with an unplanned pregnancy by a childhood friend's brother. It's light, it's fluffy, it's a little too good to be true, but it's a fun fantasy. I agree with other reviewers who said this could easily have been combined with the first in the series though.
Annie and Matt are happily together, but Holly their friend is changing her life...
Holly was an Olympic rower now, a coach alongside her dad.
As she finds out she's pregnant she sets her sights on running an ice cream van. As the man gathering her child is old school friend Emily's brother, what will they do?
From attending events to road tripping to France, it's a sweet romance about finding an unexpected happiness.
I thought this was very cute. Quick read and definitely rom/com. I do wish it had been fleshed out a little more. I felt like it was a synopsis and not a deep dive into the characters. I had not read the first book so I am definitely going back and starting from the beginning. It can be stand-alone but made me curious who the other characters were.
I have loved dipping back into cherry pie Island. Its been a stressful few days with Ethan still in hospital and this series has been like a hug in a book. I enjoyed this book and read it in one day and could of devoured it in one sitting of I hadn't needed to cook dinner. I really enjoy Jenny Oliver as an author.
Holly has problems. She has no job, a bun in the oven, and is on a road trip to a wedding in France with the father of the bun. They don't get on all that well, and the fact they are expecting an unplanned bun is just too complicated.
Features lots of delicious food and witty repartee.

Thoroughly enjoyed the second book in the cherry pie island series. This time the main character is Holly. Likeable characters, lovely romantic story with a few twists.
Another easy read - book seemed to be a lot shorter than the first one. Have already downloaded part 3 for later in the month.
I know you should never judge a book by its cover. But this cover is gorgeous and the book is just as lovely. This book is no 2 in the cherry pie island series. It follows the story of Holly who we found out was pregnant in the first book. Holly is having Wilfs baby but is refusing to tell him as she thinks he is a cad, won't be interested and will think she is after his money. Emily Hollys friend and Wilfa sister drops the bomb shell on Wilf and invites Holly to her mums wedding in France with her icecream van that she inherited from Enid the owner of the Cherry pie cafe who died in the first book. Holly doesn't know Emily has told Wilf but Wilf txt Holly and asks her why she has told him. Emily who is meant to travel to France with Holly in the icecream can freigns an emergency and sends Wilf with Holly instead. What happens is a roller coaster of a ride across county and water. Lots of funny points and lovely sweet moments. Resulting in a lovely happy ending. Am loving this series of books. It's great that they are so short and that the characters run throughout the books. But you get to experience the story from other characters perspectives as the story's progress.
I loved visiting Cherry Pie Island a few months ago so I knew it was time to revisit, and what better reason than to catch up with the characters.
Its a sugar sweet quick read and a perfect pit stop between books. This time we follow Holly who is having to deal with a pregnancy she hadn't planned to a gent who shes believes has no intention of sticking around.
When her friend Emily springs it on her that they want her ice cream van for her mothers wedding in france and that would require a roadtrip with the father to be makes for a beyond stressful trip, especially when wilf doesn't even know Holly is having his baby to start with.
Cherry Pie Island is a beautiful place to visit, but traveling down to france made for a change, it was like a break within a break. The characters were as wonderful as always, and I adored the way we met up with everyone for a catch up whilst following the new story.
Jenny has created a wonderful little island where you really do feel like you know everyone, and you are welcomed with open arms, the narrative flows and I flew through this read, not because it was easy but because I was hooked. I cant wait to revisit.
I really enjoyed this second installment in Jenny Oliver's Cherry Pie Island series. This tells the story of Holly - accidentally pregnant and trying to work out where her life is heading.
Once again, I thought that there was a lot of plot crammed into this - and it worked well, although not quite as well as it did in part one. . I really like this series of novellas so far - each one works on its own and sets up the next book, but without leaving you with massive (and irritating) cliffhangers.
The 2nd book in The Cherry Pie Island series. Enjoyable easy read but for me there was something lacking in this book and I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the 1st. Holly is persuaded to take her vintage ice-cream van and drive it with Wilf, for his mothers wedding in France. All very enjoyable, the trip has it's funny moments and the is a lovely feeling of the warmth of France that comes through the book. I did feel that as the ice-cream van hadn't been driven for such a long time, it was a bit far fetched that it would have made the trip all the way to France, let alone getting it off of the island. Having said that, there was nothing not to enjoy but my star marking would be 3.5.
I liked this book and chose it after reading the first one in the series. It is heart warming and although it's fairly predictable the way that Jenny Oliver writes it doesn't go through all the will she won't she dilemma quite so obviously. I have just downloaded the third book in the series to read about the other characters on cherry pie island.
