Seeds of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation

Rate this book
This skillfully researched book focuses on how a small socio-political American elite seeks to establish its control over the very basis of human survival, the provision of our daily bread. Control the food and you control the people. This is no ordinary book about the perils of GMO. Engdahl takes the reader inside the corridors of power, into the backrooms of the science labs, behind closed doors in the corporate boardrooms. The author reveals a World of profit-driven political intrigue, government corruption and coercion, where genetic manipulation and the patenting of life forms are used to gain worldwide control over food production. The book is an eye-opener, a must-read for all those committed to the causes of social justice and World peace.

Interesting and terrifying history of the politics and agenda behind the development and mostly coerced global spread of the agribusiness, the green/gene revolution and genetically modified organisms. Some people are truly evil.

Needs an editor.

This is a very dense book with many footnotes and much to think about. Mr. Engdahl provides a clear history of the development of genetically modified foods (GMO), as well as current efforts to expand the presence not only of GMO's but also of genetically modified animals to our food chain. He writes of the conspiracy (I use this word with some risk) between major corporations and foundations in the United States to take over the food growing mechanisms of the world in order to control population growth. The material he provides is startling. He talks about how the US government colluded by declaring GMO's substantially the same as ordinary food crops and therefore not subject to consumer labeling requirements. Not only that, but these GMO's are also declared substantially different from the original seed so the GMO can be patented. We eat GMO's every single day, fed to us by major corporate food producers in this country, without any clear understanding of just what these foods can do to us. He describes in great detail how chemical companies like Monsanto and Dow have bought up small seed companies in an attempt to control who can grow what. This book is nothing short of a wake-up call to every single one of us to take back our food sources and insist that our government protect the people of this country, not work for the advancement of corporate interests around the globe. It's caused me to join organizations fighting against this sort of corrupt and despotic behaviour. If I thought corporations were evil entities before reading this book, my distrust has increased a million fold. Take back your food; know where your food comes from; buy local; buy organic. Before its too late.

I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Engdahl's meticulously researched and footnoted book explores the practical aspects of Henry Kissinger's statement that "If you control the oil, you control the nations; if you control the food, you control the people." Engdahl documents how a handful of corporate and foundation players have maneuvered themselves into control of a large swath of the global food supply, and suppressed the health and environmental dangers of genetically modified foods and large-scale integrated industrial farming and agribusiness. It's time to start a network of farms sustainably raising the thousands of crop and livestock species being squeezed literally out of existence.

Kontroliši hranu i kontrolisaćeš ljude".

Detailed research that explains a lot of things about the American food "system." This is the book I recommend people read on the subject of GMO's, why they can't be labeled, why, why, why??? It's VERY political, scary, and mind-blowing. Like another reviewer said, "I can't recommend this book highly enough." It is also a heavy read, page after page of detailed exposition of "what happened, when, and where."

'Seeds of destruction' is not giving chemical and biological evidence that GMO can mess with your health. It is doing something better - showing you the political and economical background behind the GMO, and channeling the cries and testimonials of farmers and truth-loving scientists alike. Simpatizers of the GMO, READ THIS BOOK.

Too political. The book doesn't adduce enough scientific evidence to prove the toxicity of GMO foods.

Everything under the sun that's been made by man can be patented.
So here is the world we live in today for better or worse corporations can create strains of seeds have them patented then sell them to farmers in third world countries as a promise of higher yield crops with built in disease resistance. We also lose the 1000s of years of natural cross pollination practiced by farmers .Sounds good right more efficient?
No it isn't.
Playing god leads to the disaster we have today in peoples health. Allergies are on the increase , cancers and booming dementia.
Monsanto(who was swallowed up by Bayer) is highlighted as one of the culprits amongst a few others . Creators of cancer causing roundup weedkiller that has had massive legal actions against them do their best to introduce GMO seeds to the world.
GMO soy feed is fed to cows that end up in fast food hamburgers . Then people ask why the increase in illnesses like diabetes.
The patented products extends to animals also and one would want to check where their chicken meat comes from in future.
2020 the backlash is in full swing with organic produce being sought after and is a growing industry.
After this book one will never look at food the same way again.

Libro ridicolo.

Brilliantly written, fantastically sourced and really honed in on what's really at stake. I will definitely be reading Engdahl's New Order book and can only hope that he is in midst of writing a new book. I would recommend this book definitely and I have learned so much from this about seeds, GMOs and how big of a role the Rockefeller Foundation plays in all parts of life and society.

A MUST read, especially in the times we are in now.

An informative, and well researched, exposé on the corruption of corporate food barons. A bone chilling look into the influence the Rockefeller family has in what goes on your plate. Monsanto, Dow, DuPont, Cargill, et al,have used the WTO to as muscle to dominate the world food market, and practice eugenics on the third world and the American working class. Read this if you dare.

I started this book while reading in bed prior to going to sleep. Four chapters later I had to force myself to turn off the light, but my head was whirling that sleep was impossible.

I am fairly knowledgeable about the subject of genetically modified plants but had NO idea how long ago this really started, nor how many unexpected 'players' have been involved in what is even more evil and dangerous than I was aware.

The political figures involved in this really gobsmacked me. Evil just oozes from page after page. (Kissinger and Daddy Bush certainly did not surprise me, but what they did and said most certainly DID! Jimmy Carter has been involved from the early days-------I always thought he was honest and honorable and paid heed to science.....I guess not)

In the early days of testing Monsanto GMO potatoes, a renowned scientist from the UK presented his findings after testing GMO spuds in mice. Within days his career was over, he and his wife had been banished from the institution at which they had worked for many years, his notes were seized, and lies and slander spread about him all over the world in a matter of days.

The chain of blame? Monsanto called Pres. Clinton who called PM Blair, and the information was suppressed and the life was ruined.

There are many more similar incidents. This reads like a real thriller novel, but sadly it is all true.

Mr. Engdahl follows the text of each chapter with extensive footnotes and references. His research is thorough .

I finished and I think this is a MUST READ for anyone who eats. Now I am on to the next book on this same subject.

I'm halfway through this book, it's fantastic. Way more info than just GMO focus, it really gets into the origins of the strategy of the PTB to pursue the path of huge Agribusiness and the origins of the GMO push. Each chapter is well footnoted...I'm looking forward to reading all 3 of his books.

Quite the eye opener about how Monsanto has intertwined themselves with the US government, our food supply and it's global effect of close to a monopoly on the sale of seeds for crops
