Jane B. Mason grew up in a large family in northern Minnesota. She has written books for kids of all ages under many names and on many subjects, among them ghosts, Jedi, detective duos, princesses, twins, mean girls, and slam books.
Jane has lived in the midwest and on both coasts, but appears to have settled in Oakland, California, and writes almost every day at either a friend's dining room table or a little studio in her back yard, where she has a purple loveseat, a whole lotta books, and an odd selection of trinkets she has unwittingly been collecting since she was a child.
If you like stories of the strange and unusual because you, yourself, might be strange and unusual, you'll like this book.
Most of the information was not new to me, since I fall into the category mentioned above, but it's interesting nonetheless. The cliff mummies of Peru, the history of funeral customs, the Tower of London, the Titanic's sister ships, Victorian bodysnatchers--all my favorite dinnertime topics!
Sure, it's written for 10-year-olds, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
Look, there are some people in this world who eagerly anticipated the forensic analysis of Tutenkhamen's remains, and who watched every episode of "Mummy Autopsy" in one afternoon, and who squealed like a little girl upon hearing that the Burke and Hare story would be made into a movie (and by "some people," I obviously mean "me").
We are the kind of people who are going to read this book and remember the first time we saw an episode of "Ripley's Believe It or Not," and how all the weird and wonderful exhibits on that program both delighted us and nauseated us.
That's the end result of this book, too: a maniac's grin and a tiny dry heave. Perfect.
This book was very interesting. I liked learning some of the history on the tower of London and the Titanic.
This book is really intresting. (If you like history)
