leela hope is a writer with over 22 years of experience in writing endearing children's fiction. Her lively characters have entranced and captivated her audience, and she has taken great joy in writing the three series of books, each beautifully illustrated with love and care. Her stories concentrate on the adventures of floppy eared bunnies and wide-eyed children learning lessons in life, before returning home wiser and eager for sleep. leela hope writes her stories to entertain the very young, but also to educate. Her vision is always of a parent sitting on a child's bed, reciting the stories each night, while the young one drifts off to sleep, lulled into a dream world full of fun and adventure. From her very earliest years of childhood, leela made up stories in her head, telling them to her younger brother and sister. The stories flowed easily from her mind, and it wasn't long before she realized she had a gift for writing. By the age of 14, she had already written a small book of short stories for her own entertainment, and by the age of 22, she had published her first full-fledged children's fiction in several magazines. leela hope was destined to be an author and she knew exactly what genre of fiction she wanted to dedicate her life too.
Born in San Diego, California, and still residing in the area, leela studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. She enjoys scuba diving and visiting wildlife parks, seeking new inspiration for cuddly characters for her stories. leela hope lives in an urban area of San Diego and is presently at work on a new book.
Brief Review: I think this was a cute fictional book that showed a story of a girl and her horse friend overcoming the fear of puddles. It was really easy to read so I think it could be used for all levels of reading. The artwork kind of reminded me of My Little Pony themes which may not be great for kids that want a more realistic viewpoint. However, if you want a quick read for kids and want to get a good point across this book would fit the bill.
Content Area: The main point of this book was the girl trying to get her pony to overcome his fear of puddles. Everyone is afraid of something so I would have students write a story about something they are afraid of, whether it be an animal or a type of food. The students would then have to put in the story some way in which they could overcome this fear. In this story, it was simply by the girl having other animals go through the puddle first. I've found that it is easier to accomplish something if you have a plan on conquering it and no one wants to be afraid, so I think this prompt will help with that.
Comprehensive Questions: 1. Why do you think the author wrote this book? The main reason the author wrote this book is because she wants us to overcome our fears. I think that she also is telling us to spend more time outdoors because it was rainy and yet the girl still decided to go outside instead of stay inside. 2. What part would you change in the story and why? I wouldn't change the phrase that I asked the different animals about if they were jumping in puddles but I would change the response that each one gave because I think it became a little too repetitive and each animal should have a unique and characteristic answer.
Wonders: 1. Why would a horse be afraid of puddles? 2. Does the girl in the book have a dad? (Only the mother was shown)
A little girl named Faith goes to bed sad because it is raining. The next morning she realizes it is too muddy to play outside, until her mother hands her a raincoat and rubber boots. She tries to get her best friend Peter Pony to play in the puddles with her. Will Faith and her friends be able to convince Peter to join them in their fun? This brought back happy memories of my childhood and playing in the puddles. I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
Do you like to play in winter muddle puddles, too kids?
What a cool ebook story about a little girl's pony finally winning over his fear of getting too wet after seeing Faith and her friendly animals all joining in first though. I would like to recommend this ebook for five stars and for ages 0-5 years of age. Also in return. for being able to read and see how Leela wrote this ebook for free here is my honest review. Great job Leela! By Angela
