A story that helped me understand and support the person I Love the most

This book meant a lot to me on a deeply personal level. It helped put words to a journey I have witnessed closely through my wife’s life. She grew up in a home marked by control, fear, and pain, and spent years carrying that trauma in silence. It was not until about ten years ago that she began the hard work of healing through EMDR, learning how to build boundaries and face what she had suppressed for so long. Watching her fight through that has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life.
What Cheyanna Fields does in this memoir is give language to that kind of struggle. She captures what it is like to live with PTSD and panic attacks, and how those invisible triggers can surface at any moment. It helped me better understand not only what my wife has gone through, but also how I can continue to show up for her in a more supportive and meaningful way.
There is a raw honesty in this book that is impossible to ignore. It is not just about surviving trauma, but about choosing to rebuild, to become a safe place for yourself and for those you love. That part resonated deeply with me. My wife has done exactly that. Despite everything she endured, she has built a life centered around our two daughters and helping other children as a speech therapist. I see that same strength reflected in these pages.
I also appreciated the way the author shares the role of support and love in the healing process. The relationship dynamic reminded me how important it is to stand beside someone, not to fix them, but to support them as they find their way forward.
This is not an easy book, but it is an important one. It is honest, courageous, and written with a vulnerability that will help many people feel seen and understood.
Thank you for sharing your story. I truly believe it will help others who are walking a similar path.
Wishing you and your family all the best. - shawn

Thank you, seriously, thank you for writing this novel. You've given hope, inspiration, courage and strength to all of us who have ever been in your shoes.

This novel was by far one of the first things I've ever read that made me confront my own demons. If you're looking for a memoir that can help you through your emotional, physical, or mental trauma, I'd suggest this novel.

When it starts, you're sucked into a madness of wanting to fight for a child who didn't deserve her life. You find yourself pleading with her mother to save her. You find yourself wanting to fight the male character. You find yourself distraught, hurting, and emotionally invested in this child's future.

Cheyanna has a way to bring the calm to the storm, to remove the wool from the sheep's eyes and to hold the perpetrator accountable for all he's done.

My hear healed pieces that were broken. It showed parallels to my life with my own husband who is my solid rock. It broke the chaos my mind was struggling to wade through, and lastly, it left me breathing a sigh of fresh air for the first time in 30 years. Thank you, Cheyanna for giving me the strength to battle my demons. 🖤

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Yellow Was a Lie is a memoir that demands to be felt, not just read.

One chapter in particular, “No One Told Me About Flashbacks,” stopped me in my tracks. The author’s observation that “trauma does not tell time” captured something so many people experience but struggle to put into words. Her writing is raw, honest, and unflinchingly real. Rather than offering easy answers or neat resolutions, she explores the complicated reality of surviving and healing.

Throughout the book, Cheyanna Fields writes with remarkable vulnerability and courage. She shares painful truths while also showing the resilience it takes to keep moving forward. I found myself highlighting passages, rereading pages, and reflecting on them long after I closed the book.

This isn’t just a memoir about what happened. It’s a memoir about what happens afterward. About carrying the past, learning to live with it, and finding your voice despite it. Powerful, heartbreaking, and deeply memorable.

A must read!
This story is one of sadness, abuse, neglect....yet it shows the overwhelming and inspiring strength and determination the author had to find the light at the end of a dark and terrifying tunnel. She writes in a way that allows you to feel what she went through. I cried so many times and in the end, my heart was smiling reading her ending. She is a brilliant and resilient young woman and not only am I so glad this helped in her personal healing.....I truly believe it will help others with theirs, it is already h3lping me in mine.

I wish I had more stars for this book beyond 5. This book deserves more stars for the courage, more stars for bravery, more stars for the success. I have been on an emotional rollercoaster throughout this book but the one word I seem to focus on overall is hope. This book is hope for people in the trenches, hope for those coming through the other side. Cheyanna Fields is a brilliant author who managed to capture the emotional turmoil of turning a horrible situation into a positive life through love, through courage and through her bravery. Highly recommend this as your next read!!!
