This was such a quick, addictive read, and I honestly wasn't prepared for how invested I would become in Lyra Hannigan and Valentin Moretti. The story wastes very little time getting things moving, but it never felt like the author was throwing random danger at me just for the sake of keeping the pace fast. There was a clear story underneath all the supernatural chaos, and I really enjoyed watching it unfold.
Lyra's transformation was probably my favorite part.
After her father sells her to the vampire Don Valentin Moretti. Lyra does the only thing she can think of—she runs. She creates a new identity as Eira Cross, uses magic to hide who she really is, and disappears for six years.
When we meet her again, she's no longer the frightened young woman who escaped. Eira has become a highly capable supernatural bounty hunter in New York, and I absolutely loved that contrast. The time jump gave her enough space to become someone completely different while still allowing us to see the pieces of Lyra underneath the tough exterior.
Then fate decides to make things complicated.
Valentin is still searching for his missing fated mate, Lyra, completely unaware that the bounty hunter he hires to find her is the very woman he's been looking for. I loved the irony of that setup. He's essentially paying Eira to track down Eira, and she has to stand directly in front of the vampire she's spent years avoiding without revealing herself.
The resulting cat-and-mouse dynamic was so much fun.
Valentin is very much the brooding, possessive, powerful vampire mafia prince you'd expect him to be. He's intimidating, controlling, and carries himself like someone who is accustomed to getting exactly what he wants. He wasn't necessarily the most surprising character for me, but his interactions with Eira absolutely made up for that.
Their banter was fantastic.
Eira's sharp tongue and sarcastic attitude constantly collide with Valentin's serious, intense personality, and those exchanges were some of my favorite scenes. She doesn't simply become intimidated by him, which makes their chemistry so much stronger. He's used to being feared, while she's perfectly willing to challenge him.
And underneath all that attitude, the attraction between them is impossible to ignore.
I really appreciated that the romance wasn't allowed to completely swallow the actual plot. There's plenty of heat and a very satisfying slow-burn tension, but the supernatural mystery, the missing fated mate situation, the ancient curse, and Eira's hidden identity remain important throughout. I never felt like the story was using spice to fill space.
I also loved watching Eira slowly reconsider Valentin. She begins with every reason to see him as a threat, but the more time they spend together, the more she starts noticing the protective side of him. Meanwhile, Valentin's obsession with finding Lyra becomes even more complicated as his attraction to Eira grows.
That secret hanging between them adds another layer of tension because the reader knows exactly how dangerous the truth could be.
And then there's that ending.
Seriously. I was absolutely not prepared for the cliffhanger, and now I'm sitting here needing Book Two immediately. The story may be a shorter read, but it managed to leave me with plenty of questions and a very strong desire to see what happens next.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. Hunted was the standout for me because watching her evolve from someone desperate to escape her circumstances into a confident, dangerous bounty hunter was incredibly satisfying. Valentin Moretti brings the dark vampire Don energy, while Eira gives him exactly the kind of challenge he needs.
Fast-paced without feeling chaotic, packed with supernatural intrigue, sharp dialogue, slow-burn attraction, danger, and just the right amount of spice, this was an easy book to devour.
I'm definitely continuing the series because after that cliffhanger, there is absolutely no chance I'm stopping here.

Before I get into discussing the plot, I want to leave a mini review without spoilers. I really enjoyed reading this. I wasn't really get any chemistry between the MCs bc saying "you'll be my undoing" while lusting after a woman is not it. Sexually whoooooo, extremely compatible. I love when there's a stoic MMC and an FMC who can't help but talk shit and just say the goofiest things to cover up how they're really feeling in the moment. The dual perspective was also something I haven't really seen before. Eira's POV was very 2024 and Valentin's was more eloquent and graceful (circa Bridgerton) when he thought and spoke. From what I've read, it's been mainly people from around the same era or millennia-old beings who've adapted to the newer ways of the everchanging society. The magic system establishment is entertaining as well. Her being snarky and inquisitive asking how everything works was enjoyable instead of maintaining a need-to-know basis or the "once upon a time" type of lore drop. If you do not want to think at all and just wanna have fun reading, this is for you.

I love when fathers accrue gambling debt with some big bad and then turn around and offer up their children as payment? But on the bright side, Valentin did allow time for her to legally be able to drink alcohol before coming to claim her as his debt payment. Her changing her name, fleeing her home with nothing but the clothes on her back, and then becoming a bounty hunter was not on my Bingo card. Now him recruiting her to basically hunt herself definitely was. She's confirmed 24 and he maintains this like "centuries old" description the whole time. Bc what would be better than a 4000 yr old thirsting after a young adult? While running away, she runs into this shop with this witch, bc ofc, who can hide her scent, bc ofc, without Eira saying one word bc the witch is all knowing, bc ofc. So she drinks this god awful brew and basically smells like nothing. She meets with Valentin and he offers the girl 10 mil to find herself LMAO. They meet and both feel this strange pull towards each other...bc they're fated mates...bc ofc. I was getting Beauty and the Beast vibes bc he has to find Lyra in 3 years after "the awakening" or he'll die due to being cursed by his maker. Bro even tore a painting of himself like Beast did. He has these white vein like scar things that act as somewhat of a timer. He tells no one until the end and everyone is freaking out bc when you create vampires, their life is tied to yours so if he dies, so does everyone else. Eira does some fake lead investigation and gets her teleporter friend killed in doing so. Who has a wife and 4 kids, bc ofc. He macks on Eira's cooter like a man starved and she forgets all about her friend dying. And when they go to check out the scene where the teleporter died, he smells one of his blood brothers who they think is conspiring against Valentine to take over his territory when he dies. But Eira's sad bc they saw where teleporter died, but Valentine took her back to his penthouse and he freaked it so she was fine. He told her everything and they basically did everything besides actual penetration - he sucked her blood, she tasted and was drinking his blood from cuts and then the whole building shuts down and the damn thing ends. BLUE BALLED MY PLOT. Any who, onto the next.

Vampire mafia boss? Fated mates? A supernatural bounty hunter hired to find a missing woman who is actually her?
This premise should have been SO up my alley. Unfortunately, even vampires couldn’t save this one for me.
Lyra escaped Don Valentin Moretti six years ago after her father essentially sold her to him to settle a debt. Since then, she’s created an entirely new identity as Eira Cross and become a supernatural bounty hunter. When Valentin hires Eira to track down his missing fated mate (without realizing Eira is Lyra), the setup had so much potential for a really fun cat-and-mouse story.
And there were pieces I liked. Eira is sarcastic and willing to challenge Valentin, there’s plenty of supernatural lore, and I liked the idea of this powerful vampire unknowingly hiring the very woman he’s spent years searching for.
But I just never became invested in any of it.
For a book about a supposedly badass supernatural bounty hunter and a dangerous vampire mafia boss, I expected more action, more tension, and more danger. The story felt repetitive in places, and I never completely bought that Valentin couldn’t figure out who Eira was. I also wanted considerably more from Eira as a bounty hunter rather than simply being told how capable she had become.
Unfortunately, the audiobook didn’t help. I didn’t care for either narrator, and I think that made it even harder for me to connect with the characters. There’s a particular tone/attitude I keep encountering in urban fantasy narration that just does not work for me, and both performances leaned into it here. Instead of pulling me further into the story, I found myself increasingly disconnected from it.
There IS a good concept here, and judging by other readers, I think this will absolutely work for someone looking for vampire romance, fated mates, supernatural creatures, banter, and a possessive MMC. It just never came together for me.
I wanted dark vampire mafia obsession.
Instead, I spent most of the audiobook waiting to care.

The story follows Eira, a hunter who is "hired" by Don Valentin Moretti to find his fated mate, Lyra. What Don doesn't know, however, is that Eira has spent the past six years using magic and training to hide the fact that she is Lyra.
What started off as a very unusual story, where I was worried we were heading straight into a fairy/mythical creature kind of world, very quickly turned into a book I found myself itching to keep reading. Once the story really got going, I was completely invested in finding out where it was going to take me.
The humour and banter between Eira and Don Valentin were definitely a highlight for me. Their interactions had me laughing, and I loved the dynamic between them. The storyline was also well structured and kept me interested throughout. There were a few repetitive words, thoughts and feelings that stood out to me at times, but thankfully they didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.
And honestly, if I'm already pre-ordering book two for October before I've even finished processing this one, that's saying something! 😂
If you like dark romance, mafia-inspired stories, supernatural elements, fated mates and a good old "touch her and die" trope, then this one ticks a LOT of boxes.

I really enjoyed the whole dynamic of Valentin hunting for his fated mate, completely unaware that the woman he’s hired to find her is the very person he’s looking for. It made the tension between them so much more entertaining.
And the sexual tension was GOOD. Valentin’s dominating personality, the dirty talk, the banter and the spice were definitely the highlights for me. I loved Eira’s sarcasm too, she genuinely made me laugh at times, and I really enjoyed how they bounced off each other.
I think what made this such a fun read was that it wasn’t just about the spice. There was still an actual storyline going on, and while it wasn’t anything particularly groundbreaking, it kept me interested. I never felt like the story was dragging or that I was waiting for something to happen.
I did find some of the writing a little jarring though, particularly the use of slang like “obvs” in Eira’s internal monologue. I don’t mind it in conversation, but something about reading it in the narration just felt a bit off to me.
Overall, this was just a really enjoyable read. It didn’t have a massive emotional impact on me, but I wasn’t expecting it to. I wanted tension, chemistry, spice and a bit of danger, and that’s exactly what I got.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced, engaging read. It is fairly short, but the pacing keeps the story moving without making the plot feel rushed or overwhelmed by constant high-stakes action.
I loved the six-year time jump and seeing Lyra’s evolution from a scared, meek young woman into Eira, a capable and badass bounty hunter. It made me immediately invested in her character and her story.
Valentin is the expected broody, controlling mafia-vampire prince, so there were few surprises with his character. However, the banter between him and Lyra/Eira was fantastic. Her sharp, snarky personality was a great contrast to his grumpy, intense demeanor.
The cliffhanger ending absolutely worked on me, and I will definitely be reading Book Two.

This was my first vampire dark romance, and Zara Cox set the bar extremely high.
I've read my fair share of smutty dark romance, and the hardest thing to get right is balance. Usually one element wins out, and either the plot is thin scaffolding for the spice or the romance gets buried under everything else. Hunted is the best balance of plot, romance, and spice I've read so far. Every piece pulls its weight, and none of them feels like an afterthought.
The worldbuilding pulled me in right away. The vampire world feels fully realized, with enough depth to make the stakes feel real without ever slowing the story down.
Then there's Eira. I absolutely loved her. Her snarky sense of humor makes her so much fun to read, and her character development was excellent. She grows in ways that feel earned, and she never loses the bite (sorry) that makes her so compelling.

Their relationship builds even though Eira has magic on her side hiding her original scent, as well as hiding her from others. Their chemistry together is top level fire. I need to know what happens next.

I love love love a feisty heroine that matches her hero every step of the way and in some cases is almost two steps ahead of him. In Hunted, we have an ancient vampire out to claim his fated mate. She's an innocent 18-year-old when he meets her, but 6 years later when they meet again, she's more than his match. He just doesn't realise who she is and is still hunting for her younger persona.
I loved the relationship between Eira and Valentin; she challenges him every step of the way, and he can't resist her. There's more at play here than him finally meeting his match and his equal. He might not know who she is, but on some level he knows that connection is there.
Eira/Lyra is a great character, but despite all of her fire and strength, there's clearly others at play who are determined to ruin and change everything for this couple. A cliffhanger!? Book 1 isn’t even out yet and I already need book 2!
This was such a captivating read! I was fortunate enough to snag an arc from NetGalley.
I’m not usually a slow burn gal but 🥵🥵🥵 oh my was this one worth the wait! This might be the only time the payout of the slow burn felt worth it.
If you like a spicy vampire story, fated mates, a baddie bounty hunter FMC & an ancient curse linking vamp daddy & his little hunter then this is the book for you!
There are plenty of fated mate/ancient curse vibes stories out there. Many do a solid job of selling the otherworldly feeling of a bond, sometimes even describing it as more powerful than free will. Zara Cox took that energy and blended it really well with the importance of consent. The MMC describes the fated mate bond as an undeniable urge for himself while also expressing the importance of mutual consent.
As far as action; there isn’t much in this book. There is a lot of build up to a conflict and alluding to the action that will inevitably take place but it’s just foundational at this point.

Forewarning that this does end in a crazy cliffhanger and I’m so frustrated that I can’t dive into the second half.
Love the urban setting, the enemies to lovers vibes, and the building yearning.
The audiobook gets two thumbs up from me!

I absolutely enjoyed every single page of Hunted. From beginning to end, I was completely captivated. This book had me in its grip, and I genuinely did not want to put it down.
This was my first book by Zara Cox, and I am very happy to say it will NOT be my last. I’ll be looking forward to reading anything and everything this author has already published—and anything that comes next!

I liked the idea of this story but the execution wasn’t entirely where I hoped it would be. First, the “conflict” felt forced. The MFC hates the MMC and is doing anything she can to get away from him…based on two minimal interactions that were a touch uncomfortable at worst. It feels like she’s doing THE MOST for no truly good/relatable reason. Second, I got really tired of the MFC constantly reminding us who she is. WE KNOW who you are and why you’re hiding in plain sight, you don’t have to go back to it over and over again. Third, the insta-lust felt weird. You’re telling me he’s searching for his MATE but doesn’t feel any remorse about desperately wanting to f*ck the woman he’s hired to find said mate? That makes the MMC feel slimy, and not in a fun way. Also, their banter was okay but it could’ve been better.
I will say, though, that the pacing was fast and that made it hard to put down! All things considered, still excited to read Claimed!

Hunted's world blends vampires, witches, and magic into something that feels grounded and easy to sink into, never overwhelmingly dark despite the premise. Eira and Valentin were the real highlight, their slow burn, constant tension, and yearning had me completely hooked. Eira's sarcastic, unbothered attitude was such a delight, and getting Valentin's POV added a great layer, watching him fight his growing feelings while denying the mate bond was so satisfying. I loved how Zara Cox balances the fated mates trope with real emphasis on consent, which felt refreshing. I did wish the hunt for Lyra had more twists and false leads along the way, and there's not a ton of action, mostly build up, but the chemistry and tension more than make up for it. I devoured this book in two days and I have no regrets. I came in with no expectations and came out craving for the sequel. What I enjoyed about this story is world that Zara has created. I know that after the story of Valentin and Eira concludes, I am still intrigued to want to read what Zara has in store next for this world.
As for both main characters, their relationship wasn’t insta love or lust. It was a gradual thing that kept growing each chapter. It wasn’t rushed, it was paced well, and it made sense.

Eira is sarcastic and has an attitude and Valentin can’t stand it. The banter between them is so good! The story is suspenseful, and it hooked me right away and kept me engaged the whole time. The yearning and heat between them is such a great (and painful) slow burn, that totally pays off, you just have to be patient. I loved how this dark world of supernatural characters was merged with a mafia vibe. This is a hybrid that is new to me and one I shall be searching for more of.

I got an arc of CLAIMED not realising it’s a second book, so I packed up HUNTED. The premise looked great - dark vampire romance? Come on, I was so excited. It basically had good start.
I listed to Hunted and the audiobook and it was so bad… female narrator doing female parts was great, but her male British accent’s part were terrible and I mean really REALLY terrible. I seriously couldn’t get passed them.
Male narrator was ok, however once I speed up the audio, I could barely understand him, not sure why.
Overall I will not continue with the series and I’m not sure I will pick up anything by this author, especially with all the books coming out each day, and them not being what I expected them to be.

I loved this so much! Literally devoured it within a morning!!! Once I started the fast pace and the quick witted writing I could not put it down! The spice was mental! The storyline actually good and complex! The characters had good storyline’s and their chemistry was really compelling!! I highly recommend this to all paranormal romantasy lovers!
That ending! I need the next book like right now!!! These are two of the hottest and wittiest FMC and MMC I’ve read this year!!

The male narrator had a nice voice!😬 However, the sexy times were a little cringe to listen to, the plot felt circuitous and I didn't buy for one second that he couldn't figure out who she was. I mean she changed her name to one that rhymes with her original name, come on?!. And for a "badass" heroine I did not get enough ass kicking from her.😅🧛🩸 Overall, not the worst thing I've read, but I did almost quit listening. I was only an hour from being done though, so I just sped it up to quickly finish it.😆 I wanted to try this because I was intrigued by the premise of a vampire mafia boss, but I was left underwhelmed.😩

Lyra runs away after her father sells her off to vampire Don Valentin Morreti. Years later Eira (Lyra) has completely changed herself. She is no longer the frightened girl she used to be. She is now a top supernatural bounty hunter. Valentin looking for Lyra, his fated mates, having no idea that it is Eira.
This book was so much fun to read. I loved the banter. The slow burn had me in a chokehold. This book does end in a cliffhanger.

The mystery surrounding the curse and their fated connection added plenty of intrigue, while the twists kept me guessing. A gripping read with great chemistry and a wonderfully dark atmosphere—just a few pacing moments kept it from being a full five stars!

This was such a dark, spicy, and addictive paranormal romance! I loved the vampire elements, suspense, secrets, and intense chemistry between Eira and Valentin. The hunter and hunted dynamic kept things interesting, and I really enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere and twists along the way. A few parts left me wanting more world-building, but overall I was hooked and definitely need to know what happens next!
