There’s something so entertaining about your ex walking back into your life as your new boss, especially when ten years of unfinished business are still sitting between you.
The workplace setup, lingering tension, and unanswered questions surrounding their past pulled me in right away, and I had such a good time watching Dani and Gavin navigate being around each other again.
Dani was ambitious, determined, and easy to root for, especially as she grew more confident and learned to stand up for herself. Gavin completely won me over with his patience, protectiveness, and all that quiet yearning. Their chemistry still felt so natural after all those years, and watching them slowly find their way back to each other was definitely my favorite part.
The romance had plenty of banter, emotion, and those little moments that made me want to keep reading. I especially enjoyed seeing how much Dani grew throughout the story and how supportive Gavin was of that growth.
This was a fun and satisfying second-chance romance with great chemistry and an emotional payoff that left me smiling.

I received an advanced copy of The Truths We Find from The Author Agency and the author. The Truths We Find by Donna Bollen was a great second chance romance. I mean, who wants to end up working under their ex? But sometimes a second chance is exactly what two people need. I loved watching the pieces come together as secrets were uncovered, and the characters felt real and easy to connect with. Overall, this was an enjoyable read!

Except the outsider isn’t some random man. It’s Gavin … the ex who broke her heart over ten years ago without so much as a real explanation. 😩
Dani took that heartbreak and catapulted her career straight out of the gate. Now that she’s finally making a name for herself, here comes Gavin to turn her life upside down again.
Okay…maybe not intentionally. In his defense, he didn’t know she worked there. But Dani certainly isn’t excited to see him.
To make matters even more complicated, Dani is dating Sam, her childhood best friend and the man who helped her pick up the pieces after Gavin. She and Sam have years of history, but Gavin’s unexpected return begins stirring up old feelings, unanswered questions, and secrets Dani never knew existed.

The work flow, meeting and pitches slowed the story down just a little,or maybe that was just be as I just wanted to “skip to the good part”🤭 in the end those puzzle pieces were necessary for this story.
I completely devoured this story. Highly recommend if you like a little suspense and psychological thriller vibe molded into your romance yes this is a yes for me!!

📖 Plot: I really enjoyed the premise of this story, but I often found myself waiting for it to GET TO THE POINT. 😂 There were parts that held my attention really well, but I think the story could have moved a little faster.
🖤 Characters: Dani was kind of awesome. Not in the obvious badass FMC way, but there was just something about her that had me HELLA drawn to her. 🖤 Gavin, on the other hand, irritated me. I spent the entire book ROOTING for this man, only for us to finally find out why he left Dani 10 years ago and I'm just... I DON'T UNDERSTAND. 😂 They weren't kids! Sure, they were young, but they were adults. He could have literally TALKED to her, and they could have figured SOMETHING out.
🌶️ Spice: There wasn't a ton of spice, but honestly, I think what was there fit the story perfectly. It didn't feel forced or unnecessary.
✨ Ending: I'm glad Dani got her HEA, and stupid Sam finally got what he deserved. GOOD. 😂🙌
Overall, this was a solid second-chance romance with a heroine I really enjoyed and a premise that kept me interested, even if I occasionally wanted to yell at the characters to just TALK TO EACH OTHER. 😂🖤

I loved this second chance romance! Unless Donna Bollen is an additional pen name, this is a solid debut as well.
Dani has worked hard, gone above and beyond, only to get passed over for a promotion. Then to find out it went to an outsider, and he is her ex. Now this is a story I want to read.
Their history is he broke up with her on the phone and disappeared. She took that motivation and fueled her ambition, her passion for journalism. Only to get passed over.
Dani and Gavin’s current story has the workplace tension, the suspense, the secrets, and their second chance. That second chance is also in question. She still has too many unanswered question from years earlier.
I love the growth we see in Dani over the time we spend with her. The confidence, the introspection into her life, and choices she has made. She is now choosing herself.
Dani’s journey is a fabulous read, it is messy, bumpy, and eye opening.
I will be following this author for more; I cannot wait to see what comes next.

The book tells us their story of how they got together but it takes awhile to reveal why their relationship broke off.
The characters are spirited (especially Dani and her co-worker, Alexa), strong willed, but fun and lovable.
There were some relationship dynamics within the various characters that isn’t something I’d normally read, but I skimmed and still enjoyed.
All in all, it’s an entertaining read and I recommend it.

I loved Dani and Gavin. This was such a great second chance romance. Him breaking up with her on the phone and disappearing fueled her diving deep into her career. And when there’s a promotion coming up, she gets passed over regardless of her hard work. The job is given to her ex, Gavin. He never got over her but left to keep safe. This story was so intense. The tension between them was so thick. But the attraction was undeniable. I loved the back and forth. And finally then coming together again. This was such a well written story. I truly enjoyed this one.

Now imagine walking into work and discovering your new boss is the ex who shattered your heart TEN YEARS AGO.

The Truths We Find was such an addictive mix of second-chance romance, workplace tension, secrets, suspense, and emotional growth. I completely devoured Dani and Gavin's story, and the deeper I got into everything happening beneath the surface, the harder it became to put down.
Dani has spent the last decade building an impressive career in journalism after Gavin broke up with her over the phone and disappeared from her life without giving her the answers she deserved. She's ambitious, hardworking, passionate about what she does, and understandably furious when she's passed over for a promotion.
Then she discovers the man hired instead is Gavin.
The same Gavin she thought she'd marry.
The same Gavin she hasn't seen in ten years.
And, to be fair to him, he had absolutely NO idea Dani worked there.
Talk about one seriously awkward first day. 😂
Making things even messier, Dani has spent nearly that entire decade in a relationship with Sam, her childhood best friend and the man who helped her pick up the pieces after Gavin left.
So Gavin's return doesn't immediately mean second chance.
There is history.
There are boundaries.
There are unanswered questions.
And there are a LOT of truths Dani hasn't discovered yet.
I really loved Dani's growth throughout this story. ❤️
She's already accomplished professionally, but over the course of the book, we see her become more confident about standing up for herself in every part of her life. The distance created when Sam is deployed gives Dani the opportunity to really look at their relationship and begin recognizing behaviors she had normalized for far too long.
The emotional manipulation, possessiveness, and control gradually become harder for her to ignore.
And I loved that Dani eventually made choices because they were right for HER.
She wasn't simply choosing Gavin over another man.
She was choosing herself.
That distinction made her journey so much more satisfying.
And then there is Gavin.
Oh, Gavin. 🥹
This man never stopped loving her.
For ten years, Dani has believed Gavin simply walked away, while Gavin has been carrying the truth about why he made that decision and all the regret that came with it.
I appreciated that Gavin doesn't pretend he handled everything perfectly. He knows he hurt Dani. He knows there were things he could have done differently. And when he discovers she's in a relationship, he respects that boundary even though his feelings for her clearly never went anywhere.
The yearning with this man was SO GOOD.
Once Dani and Gavin begin rebuilding a friendship, you can feel how naturally they still fit together. The banter, little moments, lingering attraction, and emotional connection made their slow burn incredibly satisfying.
These two never really stopped being it for each other.
They just lost ten years in between. ❤️🩹
And when all that unresolved tension finally gets an opportunity to become something more?
Let's just say ten years is a LONG time to have unfinished business. 😂🔥🌶️
What really made their second chance work for me, though, was how supportive Gavin was of the woman Dani had become. He respects her ambition, encourages her relationships with the people she loves, and gives her space to make her own decisions.
Dani doesn't have to become smaller to fit into Gavin's life.
He wants the woman standing in front of him exactly as she is.
I also appreciated Dani's journey with her confidence and body image. She's curvy, capable, intelligent, ambitious, and desirable, and seeing her increasingly recognize her own worth fit beautifully with the larger growth happening throughout her story.
The romance isn't the only thing happening either.
Dani is a journalist chasing a huge story involving secrets, manipulation, corruption, and a dirty politician, and I loved how the mystery and suspense slowly unfolded alongside her personal life.
There were moments when the meetings, pitches, and newsroom workflow slowed me down slightly, but honestly, I think that was mostly because I kept wanting to skip ahead to the good stuff. 😂 By the end, I could see why those pieces were necessary because everything begins connecting in ways I wasn't expecting.
And the suspense?!
The dominoes just kept FALLING.
Every time I thought I understood what was happening, another truth seemed to shift the picture. There is almost a psychological-thriller edge woven into parts of the story that kept me completely invested without overpowering the romance.
I also loved the supporting relationships, especially Alexa and Emmett. Dani and Alexa's friendship gave her someone she could truly talk to, and her bond with Emmett was another highlight. I especially appreciated that Gavin never treated Dani's close relationships like something threatening. He trusted her and encouraged the people who mattered to her to remain part of her life.
That feels particularly meaningful in a story where Dani is learning the difference between being loved and being controlled.
And honestly, the title couldn't be more perfect.
Dani has built a career around finding the truth for other people, while one of the biggest heartbreaks of her own life has been shaped by a truth she never knew.
But The Truths We Find isn't only about discovering what Gavin kept from her.
It's about Dani discovering truths about herself too.
What she deserves.
What she wants.
What healthy love feels like.
And just how powerful she becomes when she finally trusts herself enough to demand better.
This was romantic, emotional, spicy, suspenseful, and SO satisfying. Gavin's quiet yearning completely worked on me, Dani's growth made me proud of her, and the twists kept those pages turning.
Sometimes finding the truth hurts.

Every time I thought I understood what was happening, another truth seemed to shift the picture. There is almost a psychological-thriller edge woven into parts of the story that kept me completely invested without overpowering the romance.
I also loved the supporting relationships, especially Alexa and Emmett. Dani and Alexa's friendship gave her someone she could truly talk to, and her bond with Emmett was another highlight. I especially appreciated that Gavin never treated Dani's close relationships like something threatening. He trusted her and encouraged the people who mattered to her to remain part of her life.
That feels particularly meaningful in a story where Dani is learning the difference between being loved and being controlled.
And honestly, the title couldn't be more perfect.
Dani has built a career around finding the truth for other people, while one of the biggest heartbreaks of her own life has been shaped by a truth she never knew.
But The Truths We Find isn't only about discovering what Gavin kept from her.
It's about Dani discovering truths about herself too.
What she deserves.
What she wants.
What healthy love feels like.
And just how powerful she becomes when she finally trusts herself enough to demand better.
This was romantic, emotional, spicy, suspenseful, and SO satisfying. Gavin's quiet yearning completely worked on me, Dani's growth made me proud of her, and the twists kept those pages turning.

If you like second chance, sweet, contemporary romance, I think you’ll like this book. It has a little bit of a mystery element throughout and has some great side characters that bring some fun to the book. This is a second chance romance with some good spice. Overall, a short and fun read.

One of my favorite parts of this story was Dani's growth. Throughout the book, we watch her become more confident, more self-aware, and more willing to put herself first. And Gavin? The yearning was EVERYTHING.

Dani was a passionate, ambitious and drive lady who put her everything into her job. From the get go, it’s obvious that the relationship she was in was very toxic. Sam’s behaviours and treatment of Dani was positively terrible and what was worse was how blinded by what she thought was love but really was extreme manipulation and coercion. It took taking him away and separating from him for Dani to realise how terrible he was. Dani truly went through so much growth, she was open to rebuilding a friendship with Gavin and she was very good at communicating her wants and feelings.
Gavin, this guy was a total goner for Dani, whom he never truly stopped loving. While breaking her heart was the option he chose, he alludes to the fact that he believes he could have handled the situation better, but not necessarily differently. He was very respectful of Dani’s boundaries given that she was in a relationship, with someone he hated no less.
I really enjoyed this story and flew through it. I loved Dani and Alexa’s relationship. They were such good friends and I liked that they told each other everything. Dani and Emmett also had a very special relationship. They were so close and it was so lovely to see that Gavin had no issues with and even encouraged their relationship. The story line also kept me intrigued and the reason for the break up was also worth the reveal! Overall I would recommend this book, it was a quick read and a good palette cleanser.

I knew I was going to enjoy my time with this book when I saw the playlist! However, I didn’t realize the absolutely wonderful journey I was about to experience! Dani gets passed up for a promotion she rightfully deserves, for the one man she never wanted back in her life. Gavin isn’t ready for what it means having Dani back in her life. Especially the version of her that wants nothing to do with him. And it’s super inconvenient for the love of her life to waltz back in while she’s been dating someone else for nearly a decade. (Not that I’m mad about the scenario that created!) So what happens when your worst break up comes back to haunt you in the form of your boss in the position you deserved? That wonderful journey I previously mentioned that ripped my heart up, and slowly pieced back together. Dani and Gavin’s connection was undeniable. No matter how they tried to fight it, ignore it. The pull was one of many reasons I loved every second reading this book. I knew I liked Dani, but my respect for her skyrocketed when…well when she did a thing for herself and self-respected the hell out of herself towards the end. (Sorry, can’t get more specific because I am absolutely not going to spoil any of the twists!)
This is a fabulous debut, and I can’t wait to see what comes next! (And I am SO here for more time with Emmett!)

This was my first ever read from Donna Bollen and wheeewww wee will I be back for more. The suspense in this story was WILD.
We've all been in a spot where we are going above and beyond for our job and career, only to get passed up by someone on the outside. Rude, right? Well, we just described what happened to Dani. Once she learns about this, she then learns that the newcomer is someone from her life before... her ex. The one who broke her heart ten years ago and left her with more questions than answers: Gavin.
Low and behold, he would show up again just as she's prepared to fully launch her career into the next level. That came to a screaming halt. After Gavin broke her heart, she started dating her best friend and has been with him for the past 9 years. That doesn't mean that old feelings have died... they may be buried a bit underneath the surface, but not gone.
The suspense unfolded in a completely unexpected (for me at least) fall of dominoes and I was enthralled. I literally could not put it down because as things unfolded, it was absolutely wild.
We find out about decades-old secrets, crazier secrets that pop up as those dominoes start to fall. We see a love that never really ended slide back in and pick up where they left off. Gavin started as a blue-collar worker and worked his ass off to be at the top of his game. He had an end goal, and he was going to stop at nothing to at least achieve that goal.
The "it's always been you" from both MCs was swoooooooon worthy!

Dani has been working in the newsroom for the past 10 years. When there is a opportunity for a promotion, she tries to get it, but doesn’t. Instead, the news station hired an outside person from New York. When the new person in charge enters the newsroom to be introduced, Dani looks up and sees Gavin. Her boyfriend from 10 years ago, the one that broke her heart. Gavin sees Dani and knows that she’s still it for him, and that he broke up with her 10 years ago to protect her. Only she doesn’t know that. She has a boyfriend now and he knows him, and really dislikes him.
Second chance romances are some of my favorite books, and this one was another great one for that trope! The chemistry and the pull between Gavin and Dani was palpable. He was really sweet and you could tell that he had eyes for no one else but here. But Dani was in a relationship, with Sam. Who knew for three months that he was going to be deployed and didn’t tell her until the week before. Sam, who was a little big possessive. Sam, who forgot to support her. When push came to shove, Dani made choices for herself and no one else. I loved that moment. I loved that she finally stood up for herself. That she finally really believed that she deserved better.
Gavin is well aware that he hurt Dani, but it was for what he thought was a good reason. And eventually we learn what the reason it, and all the annoyance I had towards him for breaking Dani’s heart went away. I really enjoyed that Gavin didn’t expect Dani to just go back to him – he put in the effort, he put in the work to show her that he was going to choose her everyday.
There were some GREAT side characters in this one too. Dani’s friend Alexa and Gavin’s brother Emmett. Dani had a great friendship with both of those characters. I especially loved her friendship with Emmett – it was so pure. And her friendship with Alex was also really awesome – girls that were completely open with each other and honest.
This is a great book, and I would highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read more by this author!

The moment I downloaded The Truths We Find by Donna Bollen... I was hooked!!
Imagine working your tail off for years in a competitive newsroom, waiting for that promotion you have poured your heart and soul into, only for the company to hire an outside candidate. Now imagine that outside candidate walking through the doors on Monday morning, and it is the ex who shattered your entire world a decade ago.
Dani is the kind of heroine you just want to cheer for from chapter one. She is ambitious, determined, and real, but life has not made things easy on her. Watching her navigate the emotional whiplash of working under Gavin while also trying to keep her professional and personal life from spiraling was gripping.
And Gavin. Oh… the yearning. You can feel how heavily the last decade has weighed on him from the second he enters the picture. He is protective, patient, and so clearly devastated by the past, but instead of stepping on her toes, he stands beside her and champions her talent. On top of the workplace drama and the second-chance romance, the added layer of secrets and suspense kept me turning the pages way past my bedtime. It is messy, emotional, satisfying, and packed with the kind of personal growth that feels earned.

Let me just say this is one of my favorite reads of the year.
I love a good romance! Every step of the way it kept me wanting more !!
Office romance! He’s her boss ! Can you imagine you bust your butt to not get promoted just so your ex can be your new boss! After years of not being together due to a secret they are reunited ! Gavin is absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed seeing him change and grow with her but also supported her growth. He yearns ! He makes her the priority. This man was written so well the romance was so good a great slow burn the smut was spicy !! Kept me intrigued until the last page ! I love how you’re guessing what the secret is the majority of the book! Alexa and Emmett are literally some of the greatest side characters ever ! I fully enjoyed the banter like actually I want more of them badly! Sam was the actual worst. Dani is my favorite character. She made me feel like it’s never too late. She goes from this person who is perceived as weak to very self aware an confident. Such a bad ass who’s constantly overlooked an underestimated just to end up dominating. In her love life and in her career. The side characters have main character energy. They were truly apart of the entire story and made it feel like a family. A chosen family. I was giggling kicking my feet !!! I fully enjoyed this so much !

This was a solid read overall. The characters really jumped off the pages. I particularly liked both our main characters & the flawed mentally of Gavin’s protective side was a nice touch. There did definitely get some odd moments though character wise.
I certainly recommend trying this one and I’ll go a step further by saying I’m really interested in following this author and seeing what the future holds. I do think there’s an audience for this novel.
I did find some parts underwhelming and I did experience some disconnect from some things. It has room for growth but it certainly was not a bad read by no means.

The premise of this sounded so good, and the tropes really intrigued me. I love a second-chance romance, especially when the characters are exes who are forced to work together, and I thought there was so much potential in that setup. The opening chapters did a great job of setting the scene, too. Dani was headstrong and unflappable, and I really liked that about her.
But once Gavin came back into the picture, I found myself struggling with her character a little. She felt much flakier and accommodating than I expected her to be. I thought she would have been more determined not to be quite so amicable with Gavin, and I think having a little more resistance between them would have added so much to the tension, especially with them having to work together and be in such close proximity.
That said, so much of the story was built around the fact that Gavin was keeping this secret from Dani, and that he had spent a decade honouring it because he believed he was protecting her. Unfortunately, I just wasn’t completely sold on that. I understood why he thought he was doing the right thing, but the reasoning behind it never quite worked for me emotionally, and then when Dani did learn about it, I don't know, it was a big thing to keep from someone you love, and it too, had a knock-on effect on there being anything that could be done to bring justice, too.
I also struggled with Dani’s relationship with her boyfriend, which felt like something she was just coasting through. God, he was awful, he really was, but I also had a hard time believing that they had been best friends for so long. It seemed like it was only once Gavin came back into the picture, and then again after the breakup, that Dani started seeing a different side to him.
I think, ultimately, the way everything came together just didn’t quite land for me in the way I expected it to. There were so many elements here that I should have loved, and I could see the potential in the story, but I struggled to connect with the main characters and some of the decisions they made. I think I was looking for more tension, emotional complexity, and a stronger sense of conviction from Dani, and without that, the second-chance romance didn’t quite have the impact I was hoping for.

She’s in a relationship that her bestie doesn’t approve of. When she is passed over a promotion she never imagined her new boss would be the one that broke her heart ten years ago. Gavin and her share a past and it didn’t end well. Now these two must work together. You’ll see from the start that feelings are still there. When working on a very big story you see how much they still care for each other. How much he supports her and everything she does. How much he still knows everything about her. It’s great to see such a strong connection between these two. When she is finally single and ready to dive back into another a relationship with Gavin you see that the chemistry is undeniable. This second chance of love came at the right time for them. They are learning and leaning towards something special. Secrets will be revealed and everything Gavin has done will show that he did everything to protect Dani. You’ll see all the highs and lows between these two. Gavin was just as surprised to see her there as he thought her dream job was in a different city, but they had not spoken in ten years since they broke up. Their first meeting didn't go that great, nor did their second. It's evident from the beginning that Gavin wasn't sharing everything, but the two of them worked to be friends as Dani was dating someone else. That is, until they broke up and Dani immediately jumped into Gavin's bed. Now Gavin needs to figure out how to tell Dani everything, especially after it comes out that Dani's ex wasn't the upstanding guy that he appeared to be.
Gavin and Dani get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

Absolutely devoured this one in one sitting! A truly interesting second change romance story. The plot was 10/10 for me and I would’ve never guessed things would go the way they did. This has a good mix of tension, yearning, chemistry, mystery, a touch of spice and heavy of emotion.
I loved Dani! She is so ambitious and I really enjoyed seeing her growth. The way she learned to stand up for herself was impressive. I never would’ve guessed the reasons why her & Gavin’s relationship ended. And due to the way you think it did I really wanted to hate Gavin. But he broke down the walls I built just as he did Dani’s. I love that he is such a golden retriever. He cares so much for others and puts others needs above his. The chemistry between these two is totally undeniable. It’s intense even all these years later. I truly felt it when Gavin said fate brought them back together. Even if the circumstances were a bit crazy. I mean who doesn’t want to lose out on a promotion only to find the person who got it is her ex?!
I loved watching them find their way back to each other it really felt like they were meant to be.
Over I loved this read and will be adding more from this author to my TBR.

The Truths We Find was a pretty darn good debut novel by Donna Bollen. Ten years after Gavin broke up with Dani over a phone call, he takes a new job and discovers that he is her new boss. On top of that, he got the position that Dani was passed over for, so she is less than thrilled to see her ex at work every day.
This story hit all the right notes for angst and pining, because Gavin has never stopped loving Dani. He is determined to get her back, but her relationship with her childhood friend, Sam, complicates matters since he picked up the pieces and helped her move on after Gavin left. And Gavin does not take the news that Dani is now dating Sam too well. The reason why becomes apparent as the story goes on and we learn more about Dani and Gavin's past.
The Truths We Find has some really sweet moments, and I really loved Dani's journey of self-acceptance. Once she got away from the situation she was in, she really became a spitfire of a character, and Gavin was such a solid, supportive presence for her compared to the relationship she had been in.
I really enjoyed this story, and I am looking forward to more from this author! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

This was such a cute read, and I loved this intro to Donna Bollen!! I loved Dani and getting to see her fight and drive for what she wanted in her life! I enjoyed getting to see her open her mind and begin to heal so that she could accept the love and happiness she deserved! And Gavin's journey of finding his purpose and his passion was really gorgeous to watch! Added along with the way he so effortlessly protected and supported Dani and her friends made the whole story so perfect! Getting to watch these two come together so beautifully was just incredible! Plus getting to meet the side characters who made this whole story so much better, was the icing on the cake!! I am super excited for the next book to get more of Emmett's story! Overall this one was really great and I just adored getting to see these characters bloom and this story unfold! 4.5 stars; 3.25 chili peppers

(⭐️⭐️ 2/5) Look, I did really want to love this book because I thought the premise had a lot of potential & I love me a second chance romance, but I really struggled to connect with Dani & Gavin, their relationship, & the intentions of certain decisions.
Personally, the biggest issue for me was that so much of the story hinged on Gavin keeping Dani at a distance & lying to her in an attempt to protect her from an outcome that happened anyway for the whole duration of their time apart which was kind of a big deal considering what was being hidden. That made a lot of the decisions throughout this feel frustrating & more hurtful to look back on. The lies just felt too big for me & Dani’s lean back into Gavin’s trust knowing how he ended it just didn’t make sense & after knowing the truth, I’d be extremely hurt that I wasn’t told prior & even sooner after being reunited. Gavin’s actions imo were truly hard to move past when he claimed to love her & want to protect her. This is one where the urgency for the truth FAR outweighed the rest & keeping secrets made it worse. I certainly wouldn’t be as forgiving as Dani was after finding that out.
The writing was good & I think there’s a lot of potential with this series and author. Dani & Gavin did have a lot of sweet, genuine moments and I could feel their chemistry for sure. Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me. I was very excited to be able to read this arc & would still love to continue reading this author in the future.
