Rune Savage had heard the phrase "Love conquers all." When he's attacked by a madman, his body was littered with scars. He wasn't sure his mate, Carver, would be able to see past them. Fear had him lashing out and blaming everyone around him, including his mate for not protecting him. Carver Nash knew he and Rune had a long road ahead of them. Rune blamed him for what happened but not as much as Carver blamed himself. Carver had let his mate down and he somehow had to prove to Rune he could trust Carver. First he had to get his mate to believe the scars on his body didn't detract from the man's beauty, if anything they only added to it. They were a sign of courage and strength. As a new threat faces them, they must find a way to put the past behind and let their love for each other heal their hearts.

This book had its very intense moments that were filled with grief, but I definitely couldn't deny the extreme passion between Rune and Carver. They had been through near death experiences not to mention their own personal struggles, but in the end the pages were flooded with happiness (my favorite part) and I appreciated the joy that was conveyed through the characters during the conclusion of the story. Overall, a very strong and solid read.

I’m really enjoying this paranormal series set far in the future and the team are recovering from the bombing as well as Rune’s torture

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 3 ½ Hearts

This book is part of a series and should be read in order. This series also coincides with events happening in the Paranormal Wars: Stone Haven series.

Rune is tortured by a mad man. The after effects leave him believing he is worthless, just like his parents told him he was. This leads him lash out at his mate and friends in his anger. Finally something knocks the sense into him and he realizes he needs Carver and the love he offers.

Carver loves his mate Rune just the way he is, scares, a little extra padding, and all. Carver sees the man Rune is and wants to help him accept what has happened and move past it. Things are not easy in the beginning, but Carver keeps trying and finally breaks through to Rune.

I must say these two are smoking hot together. The sex between is perfectly dirty and sexy. Even at the worst times, this two can get a little distracted by each other. Which does lead to some funny ribbing from their friends.

Both Rune and Carver had a hard time in this book. Both go through some very harrowing experiences that leave both of their lives on the line. It leaves the other mate feeling helpless at times. But throughout it all they realize they love and need it other.

The former cadre is definitely up to no good. At least most of them. There may be hope for a few who are not corrupt. It will be interesting to see where this storyline goes and what the corrupt members will try next.

I did enjoy the book on the whole. But it did not grab and keep my attention throughout. I found it easy to stop reading and focus on something else. I am not sure what it was missing, but something was I think. I liked the main characters and the secondary characters. I liked the relationship between Rune and Carver. I just was looking for something and didn’t find it.

Overall I good book that was just missing a little something to make it better. It does keep the suspense going into what will happen next and I look forward to the next book in this creative world.

Good book

This was a good addition to this series. I loved Rune and definitely felt for him, but glad he got his anger out of the way before he lost his mate. I'm already wishing for the next book in the series

Another one I was thinking about skipping a review on...

There are some inapproriate sexual encounters (to me) a few times. For example: After recovering from the dart, Carver deliberately exaggerates tiredness to get Rune in the bedroom so he can pounce on him. It's more the way it was done for me. Like, he COULD have gone so far and then tell Rune, see I really AM ok, lets get busy. Just seems a little too underhanded to me.

Overall, I liked it. There's action (as always), a little drama not too overdone, and mystery over the completed mating fixing Carver up that last little bit.

The family dynamic at the end I thought was too soon.. but I almost always go with that. Just a couple should have some together time first..

A big percentage of this book is an exact copy from the previous one with occasional sentences inserted to show Runes feelings or thoughts. Going through this part is really boring. The usual grammatical and spelling errors are still there and it is obvious that this book hasn't been proof read. There are inconsistencies in event and character descriptions one spoiler free example out of many is that Rune has blue eyes, then brown and after that again blue.
The story, apart from the copied part from the previous book, is entertaining though it shows the authors ignorance on many subjects from Chemistry to the mechanism of any military or other secret operation to accessibility of certain wards in hospitals. Actually the supposed military operation in this book is hilarious. It would have deserved minus stars if it wasn't so incredibly unbelievable and funny on many levels though it also has one of the biggest plot inconsistencies.
