Deniz Camp’s Ultimates has been one of the more interesting books in the new Ultimate Universe, but this fourth volume is where some of the cracks start to show — especially in the final stretch.
“Uprising” kicks off with a solid premise: the reveal that Wasp has been working as a double agent for the Maker’s Council throws the team into chaos and raises the personal stakes nicely. Juan Frigeri’s art (with help from Phil Noto, Javier Pulido, and others) stays sharp and energetic, and the early-to-mid sections maintain the dry, slightly cynical tone that made the series stand out. The political maneuvering and shifting loyalties are handled with the usual Camp flair.
Unfortunately, the ending doesn’t stick the landing. After a strong setup and some genuinely tense sequences, the resolution feels rushed and oddly unsatisfying. Key emotional payoffs land with less impact than they should, and a few character decisions in the final act come across as more convenient than earned. It’s the kind of conclusion that leaves you more frustrated than moved.
There’s still a lot to like here if you’ve been following the series — the dialogue remains sharp, the art is consistently good, and the larger Ultimate Universe implications are intriguing. But as a volume on its own, the weak ending drags the overall experience down. A solid but ultimately disappointing step in what had been a stronger run.

Like this series all along, it's a series of one off stories. These take place all between Ultimate: Endgame #1 and #5 so you'll probably want to read the first issue of it first. It's all good stuff for the most part. Issue #23 written in verse and taking place on Asgard was kind of terrible but the rest were excellent. Which is good, because the Ultimate line of comics in general were starting to sag.

It is a bummer that the ultimate universe was cut short. I don't think issue 24 was how deniz originally invisioned the series ending.
