I was delighted to receive a pre-release copy of this novel from the author. This has not affected my review in any way.

The JANE COLT series has been a breath of fresh air in my reading life. They books have been exciting and action-packed space opera in the way that pulpy old "Star Wars" novels were, while still tackling some pretty complicated issues in the mold of "Blade Runner" without being dumb.

The end of Part II, SYNTHETIC ILLUSIONS, was bittersweet. Jane and Adam had succeeded in vanquishing their foes, and were together, but otherwise were adrift and alone and in a muted sense of constant danger. I had hoped there would be a conclusion to the trilogy to right some of the miscarriages of justice perpetrated by the Kyderan government against our plucky heroine and her friends, and VIRTUAL SHADOWS did not disappoint.

It's hard for me to evaluate VS independently of its position as the conclusion to a trilogy. It had all the trademark JANE COLT charm, action, and attempts to address thoughtful questions about what it means to be human. It also wrapped up the story in a way that I could be satisfied forever, but I know the author could always revisit the universe. No hacky MOSTLY HARMLESS-style "everybody dies, I hate my audience ending" here.

Overall, I've considered the JANE COLT series to be a leading new light in science fiction, and while I wish there was more, VIRTUAL SHADOWS delivers everything we've come to expect, as well as some surprises we didn't, and a satisfying conclusion. A must-read for sci-fi fans of all stripes.

It's been a while since I wanted to post a review of this book, but something's always got in the way. Finally I have the opportunity to share my emotions. Well, first I'd like to say that before reading the third book I wished to refresh my memories of the first two books, and I'm so glad I did it, because it was a great experience to reread about Jane and Devin and Adam's adventures.

The second book ends in such a way that it's difficult to say what will happen in the next book. Well, from the first page of the third book I was hooked and I just couldn't tear myself from my reader. I then realized I got addicted to this book. It was difficult to get back to real life, because I wanted more.

This book is so much better than most bestsellers today. It's so intense. It's the best book I read in a long while. I kept my fingers crossed for the characters. The events in the book made me sweat a lot, I swear. I've had an amazing journey with Devin, Jane and Adam. There are so many questions raised in the book. It's a series totally worth reading. Kudos to the author for doing a great job! This book should be in the top charts! I definitely recommend it to everyone.
