Pagan Alexandria is a fairy tale retelling author best known for her dual retelling of Snow White and The Little Mermaid, KINGDOM OF SIRENS AND MONSTERS.
She grew up in Proserpine, Queensland— a small, Australian country town on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef— when she gained the inspiration for her debut contemporary novel, STUCK ON VACATION WITH RYAN RUPERT (published under P.S.Malcolm).
Pagan quickly realised she had a love of blending contemporary worlds with fantasy, and went on to write a seven book fantasy series, THE STARLIGHT CHRONICLES (signed by Lycaon Press in 2015 and The Parliament House Press in 2017) before walking away from traditional publishing to go completely independent.
Today, Pagan writes dual retellings of beloved fairy tales— filled with star-crossed romance, morally grey characters, supernatural twists and a sprinkle of spice. When isn't writing, she's making charcuterie boards, playing cosy video games, and recording her podcast, Bestseller Energy.
This book was such a wonderful combination of climactic reveals, needed closure, and yearning. Put that with teasers of a spin off, a dramatic ending, and non stop action throughout....I had a great time reading from start to finish.
Percy and Fleur's relationship push and pull was perfectly timed and paced. It was betrayal mixed with a very urgent need for understanding, and it created a dynamic that felt fresh in that first part of the story.
There is a lot that happens here. New characters, new worlds, new abilities, but Pagan Alexandria had a way of pacing that nothing felt overwhelming, and everything had a purpose.
A little birdie's newsletter let me know that there's going to be a spin-off series and I'll definitely be coming back for that.
