The Summoner Series #2

Godsend: A Summoner Series Novel

Rate this book
After their harrowing escape from Killewycke Academy, Elle and Sam—her love and mysterious guardian—rush to South Carolina’s Lowcountry to protect Elle’s family from the dark fate her dreams foretell. But, when the murderous venators are strangely (but temporarily) absent, Elle has plenty of time to worry: about her mysterious ability, about cryptic clues her late father left for her…and about her mother’s volatile dislike for Sam. And, when he makes Elle an offer she can’t refuse, her life becomes more complicated than she ever imagined. Even her grandmother has a few surprises of her own. In Godsend’s dramatic climax, Sam—along with Elle’s new guardians Gavriil, Serket and Grier—must use every skill they possess to keep Elle and her family safe…but even that might not be enough.

The follow-up to Summon, in which Elle meets Sam and discovers a mysterious “gift” she never knew she had, this second book in the Young Adult paranormal romance epic The Summoner Series, set against the Deep South’s coastal beauty, follows Elle and Sam’s deepening love and the evolving mystery surrounding ‘summoners’, who, like Elle, the ‘hunters’ are determined to eradicate from the face of the earth.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

4.5 Awesome Stars!

The thing that pleases me the most about this author is her writing style. It flows so nicely. I often cringe while reading R4R's due to the lack of writing experience. Meredith does NOT have this problem. The first book in this series was great, and the second was even better!

This book didn't reach 5 stars because of two things.

1. I'm still left with SO MANY DANG QUESTIONS!!! Both the first and second book are cliffhangers! During the whole second book, we hardly learned anything... but it's enough to make us want to read the third. IT'S MADNESS I TELL YOU!

2. I feel like nothing happened at all... but then again SO MUCH STUFF happened. I don't really know how to explain it. Maybe it would be better to say that no time passed at all, but a million things happened. "Crammed", might be the word I'm looking for. But the story flowed nicely nonetheless so I hate using that word.

I still love the characters. I'm still madly in love with Mr. Sexy Sam! He will have readers swooning.
Elle has grown so much since the beginning of the first book. It's kind of mind boggling. She's handling everything so well though. She is so SELFLESS and kind. It makes me love her even more.

Godsend is definitely a page turner. I literally never wanted to put it down. I finished it in one day. I was laughing aloud, getting mad and sitting in suspense throughout the whole thing! I'd recommend it to fans of Y/A and fantasy.

Oh, and I LOVE ANIMALS! I loved being able to read about Elle's dog in book two, whereas she was simply mentioned in book one. The bond they share made me incredibly happy.

Another fast paced story with a some action, mystery, romance, and of course the little twist and turns.

While the romance between Sam and Elle gets sweeter especially the sacrifice that Sam or should I day what he wants to do to be with Elle is quite romantic a the same timestory gets onteresting especially with the appearances of the other guardians.

I know that Elle's mother means well but she's just too nosy and well it gets annoying and tiring. Although I do understand, I just wished that she would let Elle make her own decisions and whatever mistakes may happen, it's Elle's business. A sound advice would do that.

I won't spoil how th ending went bu I was surprised about that and of course it was a cliffhanger. Also, about that charm she saw last time, I wished she took it.

I can't wait for thr next book. I wonder what they will do next? I'll leave my questions for later.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. In no way does this affect either my rating or my review.

Well, I was right. I enjoyed this book just as much as I did the first one. I actually think that I enjoyed it a little more than I did the first volume. I'm really big on details and closure, so I tend to enjoy the end of any series that I read more than I do the other books in the series, since I like closure and all. :-) This book had just as much romance, magic and adventure as the first. I truly loved it.

What I forgot to mention in my review of volume one was how much I absolutely loved the setting of the series. My entire family is extremely southern, so the setting of the Deep South made me very happy. I mean, my name is Savannah Lee; of course I'm southern and of course I love it! So, I highly recommend this book, both for the book itself and for the setting! :-)

Tremendous continuation of The Summoner series. I absolutely could not put this book down!! Awesome story. Great original and imaginative plot. The two main characters, Elle and Sam are engaging - they love each other so very much and Sam is willing to give up everything for Elle. This story has some very amazing twists - nothing I would have ever guessed!! I will be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book!

Not as good as the first book. Full review to come after I get some sleep and process my disappointment.

ETA

After some thought, I've changed the rating from two to three stars.

Elle and Sam have escaped from Killewyke Academy and travel to South Carolina to Elle's Gram's house in a bid to outrun the venators and keep Elle' family protected. This book introduces some new characters, who were an interesting addition, and includes more of Elle's family, after their brief introduction in the previous book. The descriptive prose was wonderfully written and South Carolina was interesting to read about - especially as a non-American.

However, I had a few problems with this book.

Elle was initially introduced in the first book as a very career/education orientated teenager, mature for her age and determined to succeed in life. That was the whole point of her accepting a scholarship to a prep school. As the story progresses, Elle's ambition has deteriorated (yes, it is in favour of saving her life, but, still, she's no Hermione) and her romance/relationship(?) with Sam is her main focus. It's a little disheartening.

Another thing was that the romance was a huge focus in the book... But the relationship between Sam and Elle didn't feel very romantic. There were a few parts that made me go 'awwww', but... Sam's role as a protector for Elle meant that he spent a lot of time stressed (I'm assuming he'd be stressed out) which meant he spent too much time snarling or growling at Elle. I get that his primary function is to protect Elle, but it really detracts from the romance when the male lead needs to protect and save their weak female protagonist. And with Elle just learning about her Summoner heritage, the power balance is too skewed.

The paranormal aspect of this book is quite original and different to other books. Though we had some questions answered, there were just too many questions left unanswered that, as a reader, you can't help but feel frustrated. Okay... I may be exaggerating a little... But I just wanted more!

Overall, this was an enjoyable book with very creepy antagonists and a very different supernatural set up.

*I was gifted this book for an honest review*

After reading the first book there were a lot of questions in mind as to what would happen next. This story gave me some answers to those questions.

In this story it continues from where we left off in Summon and Sam and Elle are on a dangerous journey they are tasked with finding out about Elle's gift and trying to stay safe. This story lets the reader know a little bit more about Elle and her family. It also develops the relationship between Sam and Elle more.

I feel like a lot happened in this story but I also feel like there were times where I thought so where is this story going. Are we going to have a battle to the death? Will Elle survive? What will Sam chose? what will Elle chose?

The first couple of chapters are really intriguing and make you want to continue and then the rest is a mix of slow and fast and slow and fast?

I have to say that I like who shows up a few chapters from the end. It made the book interesting again and even though they weren't in the story for very long, I felt like those chapters I read really quickly.
