Luke Beckstrand’s Worldcaller is an instantly captivating story that drew me in from the opening lines. The prologue captivated me completely, and the story’s hook only became more irresistible as it unfolded. This story, with its unhurried rhythm and prose that drifts seamlessly into the characters’ minds, pulled me into a world of suspense and mystery.

The narrative pulled me in so deeply by chapter two that the book became a compelling page-turner, keeping me awake long after I should have been asleep. Feeling a pull towards the vulnerability of two brothers caught in an epic, unfolding narrative, I was drawn into wanting to uncover the story’s resolution.

I enjoyed the simplicity of the magic system in application to the elements, as well as life, death, and time. The inclusion of the ancient stone artifacts intensified the plot, weaving in layers of dramatic tension. I enjoyed how the characters’ complexities unfolded naturally, their depths revealed only as the plot demanded. The way the character arcs were seamlessly integrated into the plot made for a truly satisfying read.

Until the last page, I had no idea how it would end. Beckstrand masterfully crafts a story with Narnia, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Stormlight Archives vibes. It left me eager for more. Fantasy lovers won’t want to miss this one.

Buckle up, because this story starts with a bang! It literally drops your right into the fray and doesn't wait for you to catch your breath. Don't be intimidated by all the names, because once you get to chapter 3 you'll be hooked, I know I was! I absolutely loved the large cast of characters. They were all so different. It felt a lot like Mistborn, with each character having a unique ability. The magic system was also very well done, one of my favorite parts! It felt like a mix of elemental magic and otherworldly power, all wrapped up in an air of mystery that keeps you flipping pages. You never know who to trust and what will be on the other side of the next wave. It was a beautiful blend of pirate adventure and magical excitement! I feel honored to have been an ARC reader for this stellar fantasy novel. It was so fun to read!

*I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.

Worldcaller is an adventurous, pirate story full of magic, friends, and family!

I didn’t really know what to expect when I started this book, but I loved it!

One of the things that really drew me to this book was that it followed brothers! I loved this storyline so, so much! Solid sibling relationships are something that I look for, and I was extremely pleased to find it. Jerus and Devith are wonderful, and they worked through and discussed issues they had. They were both older, in their twenties, so that added something to their dynamic that I don’t often see. They had their issues, but they worked through it in a rational way and were still there for each other. Also, the issues that they had were valid, at least in my mind.

It was also super cool to see siblings who loved each other but also wanted very different things in life. One wanted a life of adventure while the other wanted a simple life. It was nice to see how these characters balanced this with each other.

There was a nice backstory in this book. The magic and political system were interesting and unique. I think it was weaved very nicely into the story. The magic gave me Avatar: The Last Airbender vibes. I do hope that there is a greater exploration of the lore surrounding this world in future installments.

I really loved all the other characters, too! They were super interesting and unique. I really enjoyed Sephra, Kira, and Canaan specifically. The pirate crew was also amazing! I loved their banter and their loyalty. They were a lovely team, that had a lot of fun with each other and genuinely cared.

Canaan was so interesting! He had a unique magic, and I loved the explorations of the struggles he had with this. The inclusion of this other side of magic was appreciated. Kira was also amazing! She was so sweet, and her relationship with Canaan was adorable. It also felt more mature. Not with inappropriate content, but that they could have conversations and handle things in a calm manner.

Sephra was wonderful! She was a strong character, and she had an amazing storyline. She dealt with some heavy things in this book, and there was some excellent grief exploration. There was also a little hint at romance between her and Jerus. I loved the slow progression of this and how respectful Jerus was of her.

Jerus had an interesting story. I related to him quite a bit because I am also the person that wants a simpler life. But he was thrown into an adventure to save the world. He had a nice character arc and came more into his own.

The antagonists of this book were interesting. I thought they were unique and truly the bad guys. There was a little twist for one of the bad guys, which I liked.

This book was written in multi-POV! I loved all the different perspectives and storylines we were shown throughout the book.

One of my favorite things about this book was the vibes of this book. This was a fun, adventurous book, but it also had strong, mature characters that really added to the book in my mind.

I will say I had one big issue with the book. It left off so wonderfully, and I have to wait for the next book! I also feel like this may be a longer series, and I really want to know what’s going to happen. The ending was truly amazing, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Worldcaller was a fun pirate adventure with siblings, multi-POV, and siblings! Truly a wonderful read!

This book is releasing on May 27, 2026.

This was a seriously epic fantasy read full of heart, mystery, magic, danger and twists that kept my attention from word one through to the last sentence. Be forewarned, it ends on a cliffhanger and you will be eagerly awaiting the next book like I am!

My heart was literally pounding with the suspense and my mind was spinning with all the complicated loyalties! At the heart of the story we have two brothers. Devith’s naive but passionate personality is so endearing, and I just love Jerus’ big heart and reliable nature. There is a bro scene on the ship that just melted my heart. I love that this story didn’t shy away from portraying men who let themselves open up and feel their feelings and cry. It’s refreshing and I don’t see enough of that in books. There are also many other fascinating characters that round out the cast such as pirates, naval officers, royalty, fishermen, and various fantastical creatures.

This is a multi point-of-view book that switched between at least 5 different characters, but it was always clear whose POV it was and it was never confusing. As mentioned above, there are some complicated loyalties with some of the characters where you don’t quite know which side they are on, and seeing their inner thoughts and motives really made the story deeper and more intriguing.

There is quite a bit of violence and some gore (descriptions of blood, injury and death), but there is no swearing or any spice/explicit matter, and there is just the tiniest touch of romance sprinkled in. The story really builds more upon the action and intrigue (they are trying to save the world, after all!), but it does highlight the values of embracing your worth regardless of abilities, learning to trust, and finding loyalty, love, and friendship in a rag-tag crew/found family.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves epic fantasy adventures, well-built magic systems, morally-gray characters, heart-of-gold characters, and unexpected twists!

Thank you to the author for the eARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given willingly.

Worldcaller is a fun, fast-paced read that feels like a blend of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Pirates of the Caribbean. The plot moves quickly and keeps you engaged, and the magic system is clearly defined and interesting without getting overly complicated. The characters are generally likable, and the strongest part of the book is easily the relationship between the two brothers. Luke really nails their dynamic and makes it feel authentic and grounded, while also showing that they are very different people.

Overall, it’s a really enjoyable ride, and I'll recommend people read it.

So why not a full 5 stars?

This mostly comes down to personal preference. As a YA novel, it leans into several familiar genre tropes, such as teenagers/very young adults occasionally giving surprisingly effective guidance to older/more mature adults, which can be a pet peeve of mine. Additionally, one of the romantic storylines felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped.

If you're a fan of YA fantasy, you will absolutely love this novel. It's a very solid and entertaining book overall from Luke Beckstrand.

The vibes of this book are so fun! With a pirate setting and aesthetic, a magic system reminiscent of Avatar the Last Airbender, and some Sanderson-style twists, this is definitely worth the read!

Here are some of my favorite things about this book:
1. The relationship between the brothers. A big focus of Worldcaller is the sibling relationship. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and seeing them work through their issues in a mature way. I felt that that was really unique and memorable.
2. The magic system not only a lot of fun, but it also plays an important role in the plot. I love it when authors use magic systems in interesting ways. This magic system played a role in the character motivations, the conflict, and the resolution. It was integrated so well!
3. A little bit of romance. There was a small presence of romance in this book, and even though it was just a little, I'm glad it was there :)
4. The pacing. This book is fast paced and I never felt bored. Lots of adventure, danger, and fun!
5. Plot twists! I love a good plot twist and the ones in this book were excellent ;)

This was a great read! Definitely recommend!

Worldcaller by Luke Beckstrand
Two brothers' simple goals in life expand as they fight to save not only themselves, but the entire world...
Ah, this is the exact kind of epic fantasy I am looking for! Absolutely clean but packed with adventure. No swearing, no graphic violence, and just a touch of possible future romance. Plenty of twists and no character is safe! Great worldbuilding with an elemental magic system. I feel I can't say too much for fear of spoilers, but hold on for a wild ride. I'm definitely ready for book 2. Would recommend for adults and teens!

This book scratched an itch I didn't even know I had. The book reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean, but also remains it's own story. If you enjoy porate fantasy you will definetly enjoy this.
The magic system is well defined, easy understand and interesting. The pacing is fast and keeps you engaged the whole time. The characters are relatable.

It is YA and leans into some tropes, but it does it well. I am usually careful woth YA, but I enjoyed it imensely. No weird romances or love triangles to be found, which is what I don't enjoy about most YA books.

This is the perfect palette clenser in between more complicated books, without being boring or the perfect pirate fantasy if you are looking for that.

I recived an ARC of the book by the author.

I probably say this way too many times, but as an avid Sanderson reader, YOU NEED TO READ BECKSTRAND!!! He has a similar style to Sanderson, but an entirely unique voice.

The fantasy is high, the quests are epic, the magic well thought out, the twists are mind blowing, and there is even some romance 🥰 if you are a fantasy lover, an elemental magic lover, a sea faring adventure lover, or just a voracious reader, crack this book. My only complaint? Waiting for book 2, though this book ends strong enough that I am willing to.

Worldcaller is a seafaring adventure centered around two brothers and a cast of memorable characters. The story moves quick and you're immediately thrust into the action, action which is incredibly enjoyable due to the magic system. The magic system is familiar, but fresh, and plays on the idea of balance. Luke did a great job creating unique characters with clear motives and the conflicts those can create with others. And man, those twists...

If you like Avatar: The Last Airbender, you will enjoy this novel!

This book really caught my attention. The set up created interesting events, the characters felt well rounded, and I especially loved how the author got conventionally popular magic systems and then used them in creative new ways. If you like all these elements of a book, you should give it a read too. I am so excited to see how this series goes and to see more from the author soon!

✨ARC Review✨Where do I start…my head is spinning! The prologue had me instantly interested, the first chapter had me immediately invested. Worldcaller was such a great read, the story mostly follows two brothers; Jerus and Devith, but there are several other key characters that we meet along the way. It’s really hard to talk about everything I liked without risking spoilers. If you like high fantasy, pirates, realistic siblings, and a hint of espionage this book is for you! I really enjoyed reading this story and I am definitely hoping to see more of the Hundred Isles in the future!
