With the death of Professor Valerius and his wife’s declining mental health, Christine’s future is once again uncertain. A chance encounter with Frankie results in an invitation to spend the summer at the ranch, but memories of the tragic accident there two years ago still haunt her.
Raoul soon arrives in Santa Fe, eager to repair his strained relationship with Christine. All seems to be going well until a mysterious intruder interferes.
Christine loves working backstage at the opera house, even with the strange ghost sightings and accidents. She looks forward to the premiere of Zoë’s opera, with renowned diva La Carlotta singing the lead, but the Opera Ghost has other plans.
I reply wanted to like this series. Elegant covers, an interesting premise of modern teens inspired by Phantom - such potential. All three books suffer from too much detail that does nothing to advance the story, and incessant, uncomfortable references to sex and topless teens. One heavily edited volume would have a better flow and be more plot-driven.
This book moved better than the 2nd one, but the series has some weak points. Every character fawning over Christine to the point that Erik's family cares more for her than him is both sad and ridiculous, even with his flaws.
Christine is still an amazing singer who makes grown men weep, and Raoul is a rich globetrotter. I found it difficult to have much affection for either of them. Their friends suffered from the same flat, one-dimensional feeling - horny teens that have (or appreciate) musical talent, wine, and boobs.
