Barbara Apostolico e Claudia Lombardi abitano a Bastia Umbra, una piccola cittadina in provincia di Perugia. Hanno iniziato ad interessarsi al mondo dei manga e dell'animazione giapponese nel lontano 1991, quando i primi albi a fumetti editi dalla Granata Press cominciavano a far capolino tra gli scaffali delle fumetterie e delle edicole.
Come per ogni buon otaku, il periodo del "declino" è stato rapido e violento e le ha portate a nutrire un amore sviscerato per molte produzioni giapponesi. Ben presto è iniziato anche l'esodo alle fiere del fumetto, ed è proprio ad una di queste manifestazioni, nel 1996, che vi è stato l'incontro con Eva Villa. La nota autrice romana, favorevolmente colpita dallo stile disegnativo del duo, le ha invitate a collaborare con lei, come autrici di fumetti, nella fanzine Cultur Club, che già da qualche anno pubblicava parodie omoerotiche su famosi personaggi dei cartoon giapponesi. E' iniziata così una proficua cooperazione che si è protratta nel corso di molti anni.
Proprio da questo esordio romano deriva il nome di battaglia con cui le due ragazze umbre hanno deciso di presentarsi al pubblico: "le Peruggine" infatti, non è altro che il modo familiare con cui il pubblico romano (il primo che le ha conosciute e accolte) le identificava; ossia la pronuncia del luogo di provenienza delle due, con la simpatica cadenza romana.
Tra le opere nipponiche, le più apprezzate sono "Berserk" di Kentarou Miura, le opere delle CLAMP, "Bastard!!" di Kazushi Hagiwara, "Seimaden" di You Higuri, "Angel Sanctuary" di Kaori Yuki, "L'Immortale" di Hiroaki Samura, "New York New York" di Marimo Ragawa, "Kizuna" di Kazuma Kodaka. "Ai no Kusabi", "Record of Lodoss War", "Weathering Continent", "Vampire Hunter D".
Gli autori che maggiormente hanno influenzato i lavori delle autrici sono: Nobuteru Yuuki, character designer nel campo dell'animazione nipponica (suo è anche Lodoss War), Mutsumi Inomata, famosa illustratrice e autrice di fumetti e character designer, i già citati Miura e le CLAMP.
Altre passioni riguardano l'arte: in particolar modo l'arte della Grecia classica e di Roma antica, le opere di Rinascimento e Neoclassicismo, Caravaggio.
Il Medioevo, in tutti i suoi aspetti, sociali, politici, culturali e soprattutto architettonici.
La musica: New Age, degli anni '80, etnica, colonne sonore di film e animazioni.
La lettura: soprattutto narrativa fantasy, storica e gay.
Inoltre sono molto amanti degli animali, della pizza e della pasta (da buone italiane!).

An odd little story about a young thief who is rescued and taken in by a legendary warrior. But he is not all that he seems. As they're falling in love, Cain the warrior, nearly loses the thief when he runs off fearing that Cain's feelings aren't real (or of the lasting variety). The story is interesting enough that I want to read the next volume but some of the artwork leaves something to be desired.

ANother attempt to "get into" Hentai/Yaoi. This one was interesting as far as it went but it didn't go very far. Perhaps I'll look for the sequel.

Good is good, but bad is interesting. Beth Fallon once wrote that when musing about how villains can make for great stories. But what if the supposed villain is actually a good guy?

A powerful soldier named Cain has sworn revenge on a bishop who had his lover burnt at the stake. Now the soldier has been reborn and has found the reincarnation of his dead lover in a little boy. The bishop is now older but still a formidable presence in the church. He and Cain are about to meet again and the results aren’t going to be pretty.

Set in medieval Italy, this yaoi story spins on religious themes, devilry and the secret shame of homosexuality. Guilt, humiliation, revenge, warfare and more all make for a truly compelling manga. The illustrations are heavy in tone, with stone castles, narrow streets and heavy inks predominating. It gives a somber weight to the story that is comparable to noir films or mangas featuring the mob.

However, the copy I got shows smeared lines in many spots, as if the story went to print before the ink was quite dry. It’s distressing and seriously flaws what would otherwise be an excellent manga. This volume also contains a sneak peak at “Winter Demon” volume 2. So for fans of that series who haven’t read it yet, this is a great look at another installation for Yaoi Press.
