Myranda Rae Can Apparently Cook at Every Temperature
Give me a paranormal romance with an awkward heroine, an ancient supernatural MMC, monsters lurking in the dark, danger, angst, and a slow burn that actually takes its sweet-ass time burning, and I’m probably going to be happy.
Hunger & Hollow delivered.
Immy is chaotic, clumsy, awkward, and suddenly finds herself caught up in a world she never knew existed—one inhabited by Umbrals, creatures who feed on the essence of human beings rather than their blood.
Then there’s Kas: ancient, hot, guarded, protective, and somehow still in possession of a functioning conscience.
He also works in a morgue, which might be the most hilariously appropriate career choice possible for an ancient supernatural being.
What really got me, though, was Immy and Kas together.
Myranda Rae doesn’t rush their relationship. She lets the attraction, tension, angst, and emotional connection build until you’re completely invested in every little shift between them. I LOVE a slow burn when the waiting actually makes the eventual payoff better, and this one did.
I’ve read some of Myranda’s other work, which ventures into much darker and considerably spicier territory, so Hunger & Hollow also showed me another side of her writing. This one is much milder on the spice scale, and it works. She didn’t need extreme spice to create chemistry between Immy and Kas—the tension was already there.
Apparently Myranda Rae can cook at every temperature, and I’m happy to eat whatever she’s serving.
The paranormal plot kept me just as invested. There are villainous Umbrals, danger, suspense, and plenty of moments that had me thinking, Okay, one more chapter because I NEED to know what happens next.
And then there’s Patrick, Immy’s “ferocious” feline, who deserves recognition for being hilarious, supportive in his own uniquely cat-like way, and having absolutely no problem maintaining a grudge. 😂
This was exactly my kind of paranormal romance: funny when it needed to be, dangerous when it needed to be, full of tension and angst, and centered around a slow-burn love story I genuinely fell for.
The monsters hooked me. The slow burn kept me. Immy and Kas made me fall in love.

This authors writing is just what I need in my life. Imogen (Immy) is perfect; she’s such a hot mess and her inner monologue had me chuckling through the whole book. Kas was the hot grumpy black lab I didn’t even know I needed! He was so serious and she just wasn’t and I loved that. If you want a book with plot, this is it. Do you like slow burn? This didn’t get spicy till 70% in so this would definitely be for you. Do you like spice? It’s got it and it was hot! The cover, stunning. The story, diabolical. The characters, majestic. Check this out.

Ok, I'm warning you, I wouldn't suggest reading Wicked Little Thing and Hunger and Hollow back to back unless you want whiplash🤣 these are opposite ends of the Myranda Rae spectrum.
Beings like vampires, but they consume a person's life force/energy/emotions. And they are dead. Immy takes a walk down the wrong alley at the wrong time and gets turned into an umbral. Kas is peak slow burn yearning.
Expect a quieter and sweeter read than WLT, if you have read it

I was unsure of this book when I first started it….it did NOT take long to get ENTHRALLED and totally CAPTIVATED!! Read this book in NO time!!
The messy, accident prone, hot mess express Immy was extremely relatable and then add the sexy serious Kas that only talks when something is important. YUM!!! 🤤
A slow burn that has some good spice and keeps you turning the pages!!

I had so much fun with this book! Immy was so awkward and full of anxiety and I could not relate anymore even if I tried. Kas was so gentle and kind, I mean he cooks for her AND washes her hair. Those are my top 2 favorite things from an MMC.
I loved watching the tension build between them and how sweet and loving they both were with each other.

MMC is dead and the FMC is… part dead lol. When the FMC finds herself attacked and left on the brink of death the MMC
Saves her and then reaches her how to live as part of the undead.
This book is a slow burn but worth every moment of it. The MMC is a tortured soul who’s just trying to do right.
