Now also a Romantasy author! Born in Vienna, Austria, I am now living in the paradise of Perth, Australia with my wife, two married children and three grandchildren. I worked many years in the printing industry and later for the United Nations in Vienna. My wife had been a pen-friend, whom I visited in Hong Kong and finally got married to. After an eventful life, finally retired, I began to write children's stories, had them illustrated through Odesk, narrated them myself for YouTube and finally published the ebooks on most platforms. I will publish 20 books with three stories each in English, before translating into several other languages. My dream is to see "Oliver and Jumpy" animated as a TV series.

Oliver is a cat that looks a lot like Tom the cat in the “Tom and Jerry” cartoon series and Jumpy is a kangaroo that looks a lot like a fox. They are the best of friends, engaging in a wide variety of adventures together and this book contains three of them.
In the first one Oliver engages in a trip by painting a picture of a sandy beach in a place in the tropics and then entering it. Jumpy and the young kangaroo Joey accompany him. At first they enjoy themselves, but they find a collection of girls wearing grass skirts and dancing around another that is tied to a tree. By making loud noises, they scare the dancers away and free the girl. The four of them climb aboard a boat and then bow their heads in supplication to the spirit of the painting, an act that whisks them back to Oliver’s living room.
The second adventure also takes place in the tropics, where Oliver, Jumpy, Joey and some human children take a boat ride to an island. Unseen by the others, Oliver falls off the boat and finds it difficult to swim. Fortunately, a school of dolphins is nearby and they give him a ride back to the boat. Oliver is very grateful and the story ends with a thank you and an admonition to the reader to learn how to swim.
The final story has Oliver, Jumpy and Joey taking a boat ride down a fast moving river and accidently going over a waterfall. When a large crocodile tries to eat them Oliver stuffs a stick into its mouth so that it cannot close it. The stick lasts long enough for the three of them to make it to shore and relative safety.
However, the safety is illusory as a tiger comes along and it wants to make a meal out of them Fortunately, Jumpy uses his boxing skills to punch the tiger, dissuading it. Their adventure ends with the three of them taking a flight to a castle on a flying dinosaur.
While these tales are good, they are not very good. They lack a great deal of continuity and the dialog often comes across as stiff. One feature that I really disliked was that the text appeared in captions at the bottom of the pages and in the second and third stories there were sections where the text was white on a light blue background. This made it very hard to read, a mistake that I consider to be very serious and inexcusable.

This book is part of a series called Oliver and Jumpy. This particular volume has stories 37 - Rescue in the Picture, 38 - Wet Cat, and 39 - Down River. It is an excellent gift for parents with children under 8 as suggested by the author. The book is beautifully illustrated by Maycee Ann Reyes (story 37), Yon Rifa'i (story 38) and Mario Tereso (story 39) and that is a very important plus, as its main audience will rely on the images to follow the stories, as many will not have reached the age to start reading by themselves. In "Rescue in the Picture", Oliver paints the place he wants to go on vacation and the painting on the stand let him enter into this magic land, where adventures are waiting for him to explore with his friends Jumpy and Joey. In the "Wet Cat", Oliver is rescued by dolphins after falling from a boat. Finally in "Down River", Oliver, Jumpy and Joey go down a river in a raft and dangerous adventures are close to be lived! All stories are very sweet and even touching and the characters are always showing good behavior. No violence, nothing too scary or too exciting, it will keep your toddler entertained (but not excited) during that critical bedtime period. They will love the stories and soon enough Oliver and Jumpy will be in their hearts forever.

In my kindle fire the story was presented in landscape orientation. No option to have it in portrait orientation, but this is far away from being a problem. I just thought it was worth mentioning.

Oliver, if you remember, is an elegant tomcat who thinks he is hot stuff. He is really kind hearted though, according to his best friend, Jumpy the kangaroo. Oliver, Jumpy and her son, Joey, have many adventures together.

These wonderful stories are made for bedtime. Parents can read to their small children and explain what is happening in their own words.

In story 37, Oliver says a magic verse and travels to a tropical paradise. He does not take a plane or ship. He paints a picture of a beach with palm trees and paints himself and his friends Jumpy and Joey into the picture with him. What a fascinating concept! The friends have an adventure in this magic land and end up rescuing a little girl from some hostile natives. To their relief, their special chant magically returns them to Oliver’s treehouse.

In story 38, it is Joey’s birthday, and Oliver endures a trip on a boat as well as loud rock music (Loud music is hard on sensitive cat ears). Unfortunately, Oliver falls overboard, but he is helped to safety by some friendly dolphins.

The friends head for Ghost Castle in story 39. They have an exciting and scary adventure on the river before they board a flying dinosaur shuttle to their destination.

This delightful and imaginative book of three stories is illustrated beautifully by Maycee Ann Reyes.

These are really cute stories, Werner Stejskal!

Oliver & Jumpy
By Werner Stejskal
Illustrations by Maycee Ann Reyes, Yon Rita'l. and Mario Tereso

Here's another story in the Oliver & Jumpy collection sure to delight both young children and the adults reading to them. This entire series should be in libraries and especially school libraries.

Story 37: Rescue in the Picture
Oliver, our sophisticated cat, is up for travel anywhere, but decides to paint the places he'd like to visit. He paints Jumpy, his kangaroo friend and her little Joey into a picture of a lovely beach with him. As always, when Oliver's around things get out of hand. Read how Oliver and his friends save a girl captured by island natives.

Story 38: Wet Cat
Oliver and his pals take a boat to one of the islands to listen to a Rock band for Joey's birthday. As you know, Oliver doesn't do well in boats or water. Can you guess what happened? I bet you can't.

Story 39: Down River
Oliver decides to return to his old haunt, Ghost Castle. What a busy, curious cat! And he takes a rowboat ride to get there. Doesn't this crazy cat ever learn about cats and water? This is one scary tale even for our brave feline.

As usual, children's author, Werner Stejskal has outdone himself creating 3 new stories guaranteed to thrill and educate children. These are recommended as an outstanding welcome edition the Oliver & Jumpy series of books.

Oliver and Jumpy have new adventures! Oliver, the cat and Jumpy, the kangaroo are all set to take us on a trip. These two meet many people and animals. They always have fun when they are together. Story 37, Rescue In The Picture, tells us about a new way to travel. Mystical and wonderful, this trip takes place in the islands. Oliver and Jumpy save a human girl from the natives. Story 38, Wet Cat, reminds us just how much cats dislike being wet. Oliver doesn't do well on boats either. While traveling to one of the islands, Oliver falls overboard. Some new friends save him. Story 39, Down River gives us a chance to revisit Ghost Castle. Before we get there, Oliver and Jumpy decide to take a canoe ride. Before they know it, they are headed for the rapids.

This series of books are a must for any child's library. Easy to read and follow, these books give your child a chance to use their imagination. The stories are just the right length for the littles in your life. They don't get the chance to be bored. The writing is superb and the characters are kid friendly. Your child will want to read these again and again.

I found no issues.

I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because they are such a delight. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

Trouble in paradise and other adventures....

This series keeps surprising me. I thought I was the only one who ever looked at a beautiful picture and dreamed of stepping into it. Turns out Oliver doesn't just dream about it. He DOES it and takes his pals Jumpy and Joey along. The gorgeous tropical island looks like paradise, but watch out. There's trouble in paradise and only Oliver's fast thinking saves the day.

Then it's off to another island for little Joey's birthday party. Uncle Oliver is a good sport, but rock is NOT his favorite music and the boat ride home is almost his last. Thank goodness for friendly dolphins.

The third story starts with a canoe ride down a turbulent river. Joey's having a great time, but poor Oliver just wants to get back to dry land, especially after that crocodile sizes him up for dinner. It's not easy being honorary uncle to a rambunctious young kangaroo.

As always, these stories are well-written and beautifully illustrated. They stretch the imagination of both children and the adults who read to them. Oliver, Jumpy, and Joey are characters I never get tired of.

"Great Children's Stories"

This children's series of Oliver, Jumpy, and sometimes Joey, is remarkable and wonderful. The colorful illustrations of Maycee Ann Reyes, Yon Rifa'i, and Mario Tereso are fantastic. The stories here peak the interest and concentration of children as they listen to the stories. The first story, number 37, "Rescue In The Picture" is about the painting as a portal to an thrilling vacation. The second story, number 38, "Wet Cat" reveals the weak side of Oliver because he doesn't like water nor does he like to ride in boats. True isn't it: all cats hate water! Do you think Oliver will fall out of a boat? Story number 39, "Down River" is another boat trip for the bunch and friends where Oliver remains strong on a white-water river trip. They do have some surprises here. What animals would love to eat them? Oliver is saved by Jumpy and Joey. I love these stories and the kids I read to love them also. Have fun, enjoy these adventures!

Water is a recurring theme in this series of three stories about our friends Oliver and Jumpy, the smart cat and the lady kangaroo. If you don't know what a recurring theme is, read the book and decide what it must mean. Young readers will enjoy the lively tales of a desert island, a misadventure at sea, and a canoe down the river (and waterfall!) in this volume.

The pictures are brightly drawn and full of activity. I found less interesting detail than in previous books but the stories are as much fun as ever, with a good lesson to learn, such as dealing with bullies even if they look like tigers. You don't need to have read any previous stories but I warn that one book will probably not be enough. Each story takes just a few minutes to read and then you can go back and look at the pictures again. Have fun with Oliver and Jumpy.

"Oliver and Jumpy (Stories 37-39) by Werner Stejskal continues the adventure of Oliver an elegant tomcat, and Jumpy his best friend. This book is excellent for parents with small children, especially if you're looking for a quick bedtime story, because each adventure is a new short story. It is also good for the early reader to read to their parents. In this particular book we have:
Story 37- 'Rescue in the picture' where Oliver takes us on an adventure in a painted picture.
Story 38- 'Wet Cat" where Oliver accidentally goes overboard on a boat and he makes some dolphin friends.
Story 39-'Down the River' Oliver takes us on a wild white rafting trip with his friends. ***My daughter's favorite.***
HIGHLY recommend this whole series. They keep the reader and listener entertained, and the illustrations are beautiful.

The unlikely duo of a top hat wearing cat and a Kangaroo make for a witty and fun pair of friends. The illustrations are beautifully colored and vibrant, matching the fun theme of the stories.

The book has three stories, each appealing to a broad age group. Young children will enjoy having the stories read to them while older children can read them for themselves. The illustrations have enough detail to really engage children in using their imagination, indeed, the stories are all engaging for children, making reading a fun activity.

The stories, while fun, always showcase good traits to have, such as working together and helping others.

The illustrations are nicely done and something that children would really like because they can easily identify the animals represented. The story line is simple but not so simple that a child would find it not worth reading/listening to. The characters are upbeat and seem to have a good time with each other. There are subtle lessons to be learned about friendship and helping others.

I do not have any young children but the ones in my home said that would have liked this when they were younger. Because of this I would recommend for young children.

This is a cute set of stories. I like that the book has three stories in it. My kids enjoyed hearing these and are excited for more adventures with Oliver and Jumpy. A favorite

The stories are well put together. There is a kinship between Oliver and Jumpy and of course Joey. What great adventurous tales that Stejskal shares. The illustrations always tell the story along side the text. Love the journey and friendships.
