Wildlings #3

Beautiful Chaos

Rate this book
I might be falling for a psychopath. My doctorate in Complex Psychopathy makes this a serious conflict of interest.

Silas and I are Wildlings—a chaotic crew of cousins and found family. Now that we're all grown up, we've joined the Guardians, our family's illegal vigilante operation in the Texas Hill Country. And Silas? He’s our most dangerous asset.

I've been fascinated by him ever since I found out he existed. Twenty years ago, the Guardians discovered him as a child in a genetics lab. He'd been created in a petri dish, made to resemble a terrifying old wives tale.

He's also half a foot shorter and a hundred pounds lighter than me. Doesn't matter. He's still the scariest thing in any room. Yet he likes it when I’m in control.

Good news: my sister thinks we're cute together. Bad news: my dad killed the man responsible for Silas's terrifying genetics.
Worse news: my fathers hate the man I should not be sleeping with.

Beautiful Chaos is the final, bloody chapter in the Wildlings trilogy. It features a tattooed psycho only a therapist can love, a dragon-inspired marital aid, and a self-cleaning murder room.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good conclusion to the Wildings Series, a Wrecked Guardians Series Spin-Off and definitely my favourite of this amazing series. The main characters of this book are Oakley, Thane & Ronan’s son and Silas a modified human with a tragic past who was adopted by Ant & Erik. The Wildings Parents didn’t like Silas considering who his biological father is and the way he was found all those years ago, especially Ronan and Thane as what Silas’s biological father did to Ronan. So Ant & Erik were pretty much pushed out of the family because they chose to adopt Silas and since he wasn’t allowed around the kids but they happily did it because Silas deserved a chance at a normal life after everything he’s been through. Luckily when the Wildings were older they made up their own minds and included Silas in their group, all thanks to Oakley. All I can say is that Oakley’s right and that he’s done and absolutely amazing job with working so hard to become a good person even though he believes that he’ll never be good and will always be a monster.

Yes, he still kills and thoroughly enjoys it but it’s only really bad people. Silas has been attracted to Oakley for years and it’s the worst kept secret since everyone knows. I really liked how their relationship progressed as it felt natural since they both now work for Wembly and got closer, as Oakley is the new psychologist on staff. Yes, it’s highly unethical in real life but in fiction it’s totally okay but then again Wembly isn’t ethical by any means. I really wanted to reach through the pages and hug Silas, with his consent of course as he was such a sweetheart, even with his murderous impulses. I thought the chemistry between Oakley & Silas was completely off the charts, as well as hot as hell. I’m sad that this is the last of this amazing series but I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’s not the last we’ve heard from this amazing world. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Kelly Fox in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

Oh hey look at that! Another Kelly Fox book I completely adored. How entirely unexpected. I do love consistently loving an author's work, hah. But seriously though. I'm kind of sad that this is the last Wildlings book, but I'm sure this won't be the last we've seen of them. Because Kelly's characters do tend to pop up again in the future (looking at you, Anders & Hopper...). ANYWAY! This was fantastic and also made me cry, which I did not see coming.

So this third Wildings book is Silas & Oakley's book. I have been so excited for it, you have no idea. Silas intrigued me from the moment I met him in the first book and boy he did not disappoint. Don't get me wrong, I loved Oakley and how kind and steady and sweet he was (and fire in the spicy scenes, phew!), but Silas completely stole my heart. His backstory is a lot more unhinged than I expected, which is saying something, but he's such a sweetheart! And thanks to Oakley, he learns things about himself he never saw coming. I just wanted to hug him. I was unreasonably protective over him too. Like, I understood why Oakley's parents (my precious Thane and Ronan) felt the way they did, but I was also low-key furious at them at times, ahahaha.

No but really, if you're familiar with Kelly's work, you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect from this one. If you're not, but you like the sound of it, give it a go! Though... that does come with a sidenote. While you *can* read this series on its own, or this book even, if you chose to... I do highly recommend going through Kelly's backlist. All of it. For maximum enjoyment levels. But also they're all great, so like... that's a lot of great books to read, and that's just a win for everyone. You can find the reading order on Kelly's website too, to make it super easy.

Can't wait to see what Kelly bless us with next!

3.5 Rounded up to 4

This review is a little hard for me to write because his I feel about the first 85% is completely different then the last 15%.

I’ll start with all the pros for the first 85%-
Oakley and Silas are perfect for each other. Oakley understands Silas in a way no one else does. Not even Silas realized someone could understand him so well. The way they support each other and care for each other is beautiful. I really enjoyed having a Wildling being involved in Wembley without actually being someone who enjoys/participates in the violence. I also loved Oakley standing up for Silas and advocating for him when he needed it. Silas didn’t feel like he deserved the nice things but he really does. I enjoyed all other Wildlings making appearances and most of the Guardian Crew. And of course I enjoyed the moments with Hopper.

Now for the Cons of the first 85%
Ronan was a terrible character and I no longer like him. He used to be one of my favorites, but he refused to work through his own trauma and caused his friends and their son to be excluded from gatherings/events for years. The way he treated Ant & Erik for adopting Silas was beyond awful. Ronan has no problem with his other friends basically being serial killers for bad guys but hates Silas because he looks like someone who hurt Ronan in the past. I understand the trauma at first but the fact that it went on for nearly two decades and never did anything to get better is unacceptable.

At the 85% mark I was thinking this book would be 4.5 stars, but the “twist” that happened at that point ruined the momentum of the story. It just didn’t work for me, and I feel like it created way more questions than it answered. The last 15% is a 3 star book for me. So it averages about to 3.5 that I rounded up to 4.

I love Kelly Fox and I love their Texas universe. There is something so fun about being a fan/reader when the author is such a heavy world builder. It's like going into town and hearing gossip about everyone you know.

Beautiful Chaos is out today, and I have enjoyed this adventure into the future with the (now grown) kiddos of the Guardians. The three books in the trilogy have been SO FUN, while as always dropping some great food for thought. This genre is ✨️murder swoon✨️ and yep, that tracks.

I was so excited to get Silas' story, and reading his POV was not at all what I was expecting (compliment). I had no idea where the story was gonna go and I was SO invested.

Oakley was the big bear of my dreams, and these two were absolutely fire.

Real talk, you will enjoy this story more if you read some of the other books in this universe. But once you start.... you may not be able to stop (again, compliment.)

If you are looking for VIGILANTES and disposing of very very bad guys, humor, spice, great world building, and delightful storytelling this is truly the place.

I have no idea where this author is gonna take me next, but I am happy to follow.

...

...

Okay, I will say ONE THING: I love a main character that is so down bad they are a disaster. Bless Silas' heart.

romance ● mm romance ● vigilantes ● taking out the trash ● indie author ● romance reader ● fun books ● backstories ● Kelly taking us to the future ●

a note to the author: This book had me unexpectedly cackling, and you really did good with Silas. Oakley is his PERFECT match. Its giving MEANT TO BEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I am a longtime fan of Kelly Fox and all of her crossover series. I have been waiting for Silas’s story since the first Wildings book and I have to say, Silas was totally not what I expected in the best of ways! The shy and careful Silas around Oakley was the last thing I expected after reading about his character in previous books. Oakley’s early fascination with him surprised me. I loved the interplay between the 2 characters that totally merged their personality quirks together in a truly intriguing way that just works. The way the personalities of Silas and my other favorite character Hopper also mesh just puts a smile on my face and I never thought I could say that about 2 people who love murder (for good reasons only!). Also, an emotionally painful quote about the “late 1900’s” in the book was, I'm sure, a totally unintentional way to make a reader feel old! I think this book has vaulted its way into my top 3 Kelly Fox books of all time. As usual, we get to visit with many old friends, even more in this book than before as Silas’s past has a connection to everyone and his adoption had many unintended results amongst characters that I never imagined from reading previous novels. Although these books can be read on their own, why would you want to? Highly recommend starting at the VERY beginning of all of these series and working your way through if you haven’t already. It will bring you on a life changing journey of pure happiness. Kelly Fox, please keep these wonderful stories coming!

Great way to end a wonderful series.

Silas and Oakley are just perfect for each other. Oakley’s speciality in Complex Psychopathy means he is able to fully comprehend and understand the person that is Silas. My heart broke at times as Silas struggles with who he believes himself to be. Silas truly thinks that he is evil personified, nothing more, but Oakley patiently and with much care and compassion guides Silas to the realisation that he is so much more. Or as Oakley calls him, “my beautiful monster”. Theirs is not an easy road involving long held deep seated parental issues on Oakley’s side which do cause some minor relationship angst for these two wonderful men. Fortunately communication leads to the bridging of the schism between the two sets of dads and includes the acceptance of Silas and Oakley’s relationship by his dads.
Along the way to their well deserved HEA are plenty of steamy times, a devoted support dog named Cupcake, Silas accepting who and what he really is, a bit of a twist I didn’t expect and of the course the Wildlings and the Wembley crew playing their parts. The ending left me with a smile on my face and a happy heart.

Oakley and Silas’ story (seriously, what are the odds that the last book I read (by DJ Jamison) featured a Silas too?!) is inspired. Fox calls this Wildlings series unhinged, and what better way to wrap it up but with the love story of a “genetically modified rage organism” (& psychological “patient”) with a psychologist. The author is aware it is unethical in the real world for a relationship to occur between these two, and trusts readers to understand that this is fiction.

I loved the beginning of the book, sliding back to when Oakley was a toddler whose favorite picture book was Neurology for Kids. What a Wildlings place to start!

The rest of the story I just devoured. Every scene with the Wildlings is robust and the addition of the dads in a few scenes really cements the found-family aspect. But Ronan, does he ever have an uphill battle in this one and he’ll take all of Thane’s love and support to get it resolved in his head.

I can’t get too specific without spoilers, but trust me when I say this whole book is wildly entertaining. Oakley and Silas’ relationship is definitely unique to them, and it clearly works for them. 5 stars.

Third and finale in series (Wildlings), best if read in order. Friends to lovers. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV/some multiple POV. Heed content warnings.

Genetically modified before birth, Silas is adopted and cared for by his fathers, but he is feared by most except for the other Wildlings. Oakley has always been intrigued by Silas, and now that he has learned more about Silas’s past he embraces everything that SIlas is, especially their mutual attraction.

These two couldn’t be a better fit, they certainly balance each other, fulfill each other's needs emotionally and intimately, as well as accept and understand each other. Once the steam starts it never stops, and with a balance of violence and loving family members this was an entertaining story. The parts I really enjoyed were the moments with Oakley and SIlas on page together, every conversation and every spicy time. I was happy to see all the parents reconcile and renew their friendship, and I am sad to see this series ending. 4.25

I honestly did not know what to expect from this book, other than that I was sure I'd enjoy it and there'd be an HEA. Seeing Silas from everyone else's eyes, not really knowing or trusting him, and then finally seeing him through his own and Oakley's? Beyond mind-blowing. The way Kelly handles complex trauma, mental health in general, and the relationships impacted by those should be studied, it's so deep and respectful. And the layers! So many layers. My favorite part of this series (and most of her series) is the callbacks and... intersectionality of all the characters from the very beginning of the Kellyverse. It always leaves me wanting a full reread!

Oh yeah and there's kink. Really fun, hot kink. That is perfect for the characters to the point where it's beautiful as well as hot.

Yeah. Just another masterpiece to add to the rest. I loved every bit (except one tiny bit where i was like NO SHE CAN'T DO THAT but of course she DIDN'T she is just mean. You'll see.).

Multiple times while reading Beautiful Chaos, I found myself in awe how Kelly Fox can choose and arrange words in a certain order to be funny, diabolical and heartfelt. As per usual, there were several unhinged passages I wanted to pay someone to cross-stitch onto a pillow. I have loved these characters from
book one, and I fall more in love with them with every passing book, but Silas and Oakley’s book is extra special. Fox literally weaves darkness with light, rage with love, and horror with comedy. The spicy scenes were Silas-level spicy, which is beyond the typical five-spice scale. Kelly Fox, I love your beautiful brain!

Sweet, sweet Silas!

Man! I truly love this world that Kelly has created and I have followed it thru every connected series and said that every one has been a favorite so no surprise when I say that Silas and Oakley are a top favorite Wildling. I love a good angsty story and Silas’s story, along with Ronan’s history, is full of it. He was made to be evil, he believed himself to be evil, but through hard work and unending love, Silas was good, he was loved beyond measure and he realized he was worth it. Such a beautiful story.

This book wrecked me completely. I did not want to put it down at all because Silas and Oakley had me in a chokehold. Which is kind of funny once you read the book you will get it. I think Kelly saved the best couple for last! This book is contemporary with sci-fi mixed in since Silas is basically a genetically modified human along with other Wimbereley staff so if you cannot suspend reality completely than this book is not for you.

This was the last book in the Wildling series, and it wrapped up the story with a slow burn romance, a sense of found family, and just a hint of murder. Oakley and Silas finally got their happily ever after, perfectly balancing each other out and meeting all their emotional and physical needs. It was truly special to see them grow from just friends into something more.

I've been so excited for Silas since the first book and I knew I'd love him. He is in a way so pure and Oakley doesn't try to change him, he stand up for him and sees him. I love this whole world, the banter and found family is truly on of the best I've ever read. Definitely a top book of the year so far!

Silas and Oakley

Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this! I could not put it down and finished it in one day. I thought the pacing was perfect, and the connection between Sy and Oak was well developed. I've had a soft spot for Silas since the beginning of this series and his and Oakley's story did not disappoint. Excellent book!

Beautiful Chaos is the third and final book in the Wildlings series and is best read in order. This was such a wonderful ending to the series and I loved reading about Silas and Oakley getting their HEA. Another fantastic book from Kelly Fox, can't wait to see what they bring us next.

This is book 3 in the series and even though it could be read as a standalone, why not enjoy them all. The story starts with the Guardians entering a lab and finding a young boy who had blood on him. Ronan was watching the footage and brought him back to when he was help captive by the scientist. Everyone saw that Silas resembled his father. Fast forward 29 years and Ant and Erik adopted Silas and gave him all the love. Even though Silas thought of himself as a psychopath, he wasn’t. Oakley is Ronan’s son and he was the one that got Silas into the complex. I loved the way these two were with each other and that Oakley understood him best. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
