maybe this was too light of a story to choose right now. 😬

It wasn’t bad persé. In fact I had quite some fun in the beginning but mostly I’ve been bored ever since.

“What if, on the weekends only, we forget about everything else? We leave our jobs and our troubles at the door and focus on each other,” he said, fire in his eyes. “On our weekends, we exist in a place where we’ve been together for ages, where everything is bliss and sex and peace.”

I mean, I didn’t read it till the end but it somehow irked me that so far Desmond had been able to sweep his wrong-doings under the rug and kept doing so even he was up to getting rewarded for ethical achievements. 😬😬

It probably will blow up into all of their faces later. But I don’t care anymore to find out.

Also, I expected more from this author but the sex scenes and the sexual tension were always short lived and kinda meh.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

First and foremost, I deeply appreciated the way miscommunication is handled in this book. Des and Javier both have strong reasons for why they withhold information from each other, so instead of wanting to shake my laptop because they’re being unreasonable, I wanted to hug them both and make them some tea, because it’s obvious how much not talking to the other is eating them up inside.

This was also an interesting take on the fake dating trope. I wasn’t sure where things were going when Javier and Des started seeing each other regularly so soon, but that made me want to keep reading. Rather than lying to the public, they’re mostly lying to themselves (and Michael). Again, given what the characters are dealing with outside their weekend arrangement, it feels very believable. Then, rather than having a sudden realization that they’re in love with each other (although that also happens), they realize that they’re more true to themselves in their “fake” relationship.

I enjoyed it. The ugly meet and weekend arrangement were good. Des and Javier were great together but damn... These two couldn't catch a fucking break and it was off putting at times.

Spoilers...
Des went through a lot of shit with his ex. The secrets he kept weighted him down but I was expecting him to grow a backbone way before 93%. He kept running away and sticking his head in the sand hoping everything went away.
Matthew the ex can go fuck himself. The story should have ended with him getting jail time.

The Weekend Boyfriend is the start of a new series. It stars Javier, an ex-model, and Desmond White, executive. This is told in third person from both Javier and Desmond’s povs.

This is a fast and fluffy read. It does have conflict but not what I’d call stressful. Desmond has a terrible ex who is blackmailing him over an incident that the ex pushed Desmond into. Desmond went along with it because he was drunk and because the ex has emotionally abused Desmond so much that Desmond just gives in. Javier is trying to keep his struggling modeling business going, but he’s losing clients and models. Javier meets Desmond when one of Javier’s models quits and Javier steps in to do the job.

Javier and Desmond decide to date, but within in the confines of Desmond’s home. They agree not to talk about their jobs or lives outside of the weekend rendezvous. Which of course leads to trouble when their feelings grow but they refuse to talk about themselves. Add in Desmond’s conniving ex and there’s trouble. The way the two men lived their relationship reminded me of them living in the closet. People knew they were together, but Desmond and Javier didn’t function as a complete couple outside of Desmond’s home.

The author did a good job creating distinct characters with Desmond and Javier. Desmond’s anxiety and insecurity came through clearly. Javier’s pride and difficulty asking for help caused problems in the relationship. Usually someone like Desmond the executive would be written as the dominant partner in MM stories, but in this case Javier, the ex-model, was. I liked the switch and could believe in the two men as partners.

Overall, The Weekend Boyfriend was a fast and easy read. I give this 4 Stars.

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was a delightful story of Desmond, an executive in a London financial company, and Javier, an ex model with his own struggling talent agency, meeting during a ridiculous meet-cute, then moving on to weekend boyfriends, their own little bubble away from the stresses and cares of their weekday business lives. The blurb sets the story up very well, the interactions between Desmond and Javier are what make it so entertaining. Desmond has a problem causing ex constantly in the background, undermining him and wearing away at his self-confidence and self-respect, and Javier is there to stand up for him and be the buffer he needs. As the two navigate their idyllic weekends, both are hiding things from the other related to their weekday lives, threatening the relationship of the weekend times both cherish. As things come to a head in both their lives, they must figure out how to salvage the life both want, facing the fallout together to build the new life they envision for the future.

Characters are interesting and engaging, the ex is a rat who only causes trouble, and Desmond and Javier try to separate their “real” lives from their weekend ones, but eventually figure out both parts of their lives are needed to make a future work. There are funny times and not so funny times caused by the ex, but eventually love prevails. I found myself smiling a lot and laughing out loud in places, as well as mentally encouraging Javier to take care of the rat for Desmond (even though he doesn’t). The book kept me so involved, I read it in one sitting, unable to leave Desmond and Javier until they were on their way to their HEA. I am looking forward to the next book in the series as the new company, Rent-A-Boyfriend, takes off. I expect it will be entertaining as well.

When Javier shows up at Desmond White's office dressed as a glittery Cupid to sing an embarrassing telegram from Desmond's ex, he expects an awkward job and a quick exit. What he doesn't expect is to end up in Desmond's car, then at his side at a concert, playing at being a couple who've been together for years. Desmond has spent months extricating himself from a toxic ex who knows exactly where all the bodies are buried, both professionally and personally. The last thing he needs is to catch real feelings for a charming, gorgeous man whose business is falling apart around him, and who would walk away in an instant if he ever learned the truth about Desmond's past. So they make a deal: weekends only. Sundays they can pretend to be deeply, happily in love. Mondays, they're on their own.
A new series which didn’t start with a bang but with glitter & wings & ended with glitter too! I loved both Desmond & Javier both outwardly hugely successful but both dealing with self esteem issues, their weekend arrangement is the bubble they both need until it isn’t & the bubble bursts. Then there’s Matthew, Desmond’s ex who really was a piece of work & richly deserved everything coming to him. Neither Desmond nor Javier expected or wanted to fall in love but their attraction was there from their first meeting & their chemistry sizzled. Things of course don’t go smoothly but a birthday party with a bouncy castle & Javier as a glittery flower puts things into perspective. The ending is very satisfying & leads us nicely into the next book

"Somewhere out there in the realm where gods sat observing mortal life from on high, deities were laughing at him."

This is book one in a new series, Rent-A- Boyfriend, by Merry Farmer.

When I started reading this book I thought I was having a crazy case of deja vu... I had completely forgotten that a short version of this story was part of the Candy Hearts Anthology. When I read the short story I remember noting the fact that the author was planning to create a new series but I forgot. What a cute book and a great beginning.

It was so much fun to see Devin and Javier again and I'm happy Merry decided to start this series with them by creating a full length story.

A singing Cupid telegram gone horribly wrong leads to said Cupid being hired as a fake boyfriend. From this crazy beginning the story unfolds. I don't want to give anything away but I don't think that this is the last we'll see of these two guys.

Opposites attract, a toxic conniving ex that is bound and determined to get his way, the worst Valentine's song ever, a shrimp debacle, a duck pond mishap, a bouncy house adventure

This was exactly what I needed to read today. It’s funny, sexy and full of glitter😆 Glitter makes everything better!

When Javier was hired as a singing telegram on Valentine’s Day, he never expected he’d be spending his weekends with the man he was hired to sing for. Javier never thought that such a humiliating moment would bring forth the man he’d fall in love with.

When Desmond first saw Javier, his initial reaction was anger. Not at Javier per se, but at the man that had hired him in the first place. Desmond didn’t want anything to do with his ex and him trying to win him back only infuriated him more after everything that happened between them.

Offering a ride to Javier turned into a proposition that ultimately changed both their lives. What started out as a weekend only meet up, became an everyday occurrence that Desmond couldn’t live without.

Desmond was afraid of falling for someone again but Javier showed him what it was like to be loved by the right person. His ex had done a number on him, but Javier was more than willing to make Desmond forget about his past.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m really looking forward to A Likely Story.

Opposites attract and fake dating with a twist. Javier is a chaotic mess, and on the surface, Des is a put together businessman. Their meet not-cute is a singing (absolutely horrid lyrics) Valentine from Des' ex. So much angst, poor communication, this was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for these two. There were some sweet moments and some serious moments as the two learn to trust and lean together.
The pacing of the story is fast. There's enough humor and quirk to keep the story positive. Even with a failing model agency that's hemorrhaging models at a rapid rate, Javier is the stronger of the two. Desmond, with an uncertain temper, comes across as a doormat for his ex, Matthew for much of the book.
I've read a lot of Merry and MM Farmer's catalog. Usually with a great deal of pleasure. But "Weekend" couldn't really hold my interest. A case of wrong time/wrong book. When you mostly want to smack the mains in the head, it's time to step away.
I received an advanced copy of this ebook and this is my review.

Desmond and Javier had such an usual meeting, a singing telegram gone wrong. After Desmond's initial reaction to a manipulating ex sending a singing telegram trying to edge his way back into his life, Desmond and Javier get to talking and find they both have an initial attraction to each other. However, neither of them would admit that but through their course of conversation they entered into a situationship where they would be fake boyfriends. Their attraction continued and turned physical but only on the weekends.

Javier was dealing with his failing business, and Desmond was dealing with his ex and his own work issues however they decided their real lives would not interfere with their perfect weekend bubble. Read this story to see how long they manage to keep their real lives at bay.

I enjoyed the read and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

I really enjoyed the start of a new contemporary series by Merry Farmer.

The story starts with a glitter disaster and ends with one. It's full of humor, glitter, two men struggling with real life and find peace at weekends. It's starts with a fake boyfriend and without them actually wanting it, moves into a relationship.

I love how both men accept that what they planned to do with their lives didn't work out. They take strength from the new relationship to tackle what has to be changed.

Desmond and Javier do have chemistry, there is plenty of great scenes. Javier brings Desmond the very much needed confidence to make hard decisions.

I am looking forward to the next book, the epilogue gives a good teaser of things to come.

I simply loved this book, from the way Desmond and Javier meet to their happy ending! I loved it all!
There are no two people who are better fitted for one another than these two. They’re also very relatable.

~~“I’m so glad we found each other,” Javier said, (………..). “Even if we had the world’s worst meet-ugly.”~~

And the description of the way Desmond cares for his plants and “talks” to them is downright adorable: ~~The bunny ear cactus seemed to giggle in an echo of the feelings bubbling within him.~~

I am really happy to hear that The Weekend Boyfriend is the first book in the Rent-A-Boyfriend series. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

I received an arc from the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Hilarious beginning to new Merry Farmer series

Merry Farmer describes Javier and Desmond’s first meeting as a “meet ugly” in this book, but I think it’s rather cute and retroactively funny even if it wasn’t good at the time.
This started as a short story and Ms Farmer has expanded it into this lovely novel. There are great backstories for both of these guys and a lot going on in the background that is slowly revealed. I loved this plot and had a lot of fun giggling and gasping my way through it.
This is a very different sort of story for Ms Farmer, but she does such a great job no matter what trope she writes and I am looking forward to seeing how this series develops.

So, I read this as a short story from the book Candy Hearts: Volume 3 and loved it. I was super excited to see the continuation of Desmond and Javier’s story. This was a story about 2 men who think they have good lives until they meet each other and fall in love. It takes a while for them to admit it and there are quite a few obstacles in their way, including themselves, but this is a great story. There is a sort of third act break up, but the ending is everything I needed for a HEA. It also seems the author used this story to set up a new series, which I am looking forward to reading.

Javier and Desmond are great characters who met due to a staged event from a toxic ex. I loved how Javier and Desmond immediately connected even though their initial meeting was absolutely embarrassing for Javier and painful for Desmond. Javier and Desmond are total opposites. Javier, comfortable in his own skin. Desmond, emotionally scarred from a past toxic ex who continues to try to bring Desmond to his knees. I loved reading about their lives as individuals but then separately and they decide to build a new life together. Great read and I am looking forward to the new Rent-A-Boyfriend series.

Oh my gosh. This book starts and ends with glitter! Such a sweet story with a bit of heat and lots of heart. Merry Farmer has a way of writing that just makes me want to hug her characters and this one is no different. Both men are struggling with real life and decide that leaving it all behind for stress free weekends is what they need. Of course, love finds it's way in, as does real life. The wrap up is a beautiful love story that you just need to read.

A sweet, cozy romance that made me want to climb right into their little bubble and stay there.

I wasn't a huge fan of how Matthew kept reappearing to cause trouble or how often Des chose to run from difficult situations, but Javier more than made up for it. He handled emotions with patience, maturity, and so much care. He's the definition of a green flag, and easily my favorite part of the book.

Despite a few frustrations along the way, I really enjoyed this story and am already looking forward to the next book in the series

Javier and Desmond were kind of adorable together. Their first meeting was unexpected and with disastrous outcome.
Their arrangement was quite cute and their bubble pretty awesome until reality interfered and all came crashing down.
They both had their insecurities and hang-ups, and the insistent ex boyfriend didn’t help matters.
I enjoyed the ‘rescues’, they ways the ex was put in his place, and how ultimately they give what they gave a real chance.
It was also interesting how the name series came to be and how their new business would help people in the future.

Having read The Weekend Boyfriend as a novella in Candy Hearts (Volume 3): An LGBTQIA2S+ Charity Anthology back in late January, I was delighted that author Merry Farmer decided to expand the story in to a full-length novel. The book introduces readers to Desmond, a financial bigwig, and Javier, a former model starting his own agency. There's a serious meet-awkward followed by a fake boyfriend date. Quickly, it turns into more, but only on the weekends... There's more tension and character development now, while remaining fun and flirty, and a great first book in the Rent-A-Boyfriend series.

Javier Rivera was a model who started his own agency to help other models. When one of his employees can’t make an appointment he does the job. This job was a Valentine’s Day singing telegram. Desmond White is a high level financial advisor, when he is serenaded by Javier at work he is furious because it is from his ex boyfriend. The story is funny, because they decide to only be boyfriends on the weekends to escape the stresses of work. This is a fantastic love story with many twists and turns, a vindictive ex, with plenty of romance and spice.

If you enjoy reading fake dating, work drama, and grumpy/sunshine this is a great book. This book gives you all the emotions from laughing out loud, crying, screaming, and frustration but in the end there is a happy ending. Des and Javier are a great couple with one being out going and the other more introverted and wants to hang out with his plants. There are plenty of twists and turns through the book that keeps you hooked to the end. This is a great first book to a new series.

This is book one in the author’s Rent-A-Boyfriend series and features a musical-telegram-singing fake boyfriend, as*hole EX, grumpy/sunshine, romance.

It was a sweet little read; nothing heavy, angsty or dramatic, just a cute, fluffy book with one playful character and another that was more reserved. If you’re looking for a nice little palate cleanser, this is a great place to start! 4.25 stars

This a sweet, fun, easy to read, entertaining book. The first encounter between both main characters is the opposite of a meet-cute, but it leads to more. Both characters are cute, seem opposition but fit actually pretty well.

Fake dating, grumpy vs sunshine

This was cute, funny, quirky, sweet and steamy.
Javier is a walking disaster and Desmond is a staid businessman.
Desmond needs Javier to get rid of an evil ex and Javier could do with some stability in his life.
Together they find they have more in common that they thought.
