Written with a comprehensive introduction, Essential Picasso looks at all aspects of Picass's art, with detailed commentary on 120 of his works. Most of these are instantly recognizable as his most famous and important pieces; others are less well-known, but they are all equally essential to Picasso's artistic and philosophic development.
The pictures, layout and binding are all great. The text is just okay. Not the most beginner friendly nor too expert level. Picasso has never been one of my favorite artists but by the end of the book I did warm up to him.
A fact based, sometimes boring, writing about Picasso’s works. On the positive side the book is full of pictures showing his work including Portrait of Dora Maar, Sunset, In The Cafe, and Profile of Jacqueline (just a few of my personal favorites).
