3 stars, but a good 3 stars! Awww, this was mostly just good cute fun. With a tiny slice of trauma. But mostly a feel-good, simple, alpha-omega read. In this world, second genders may or may not manifest, and neither hero has “presented” when the story starts. At their ages—19 and 23 (I think), that’s late, and neither expects to actually develop the second gender (most people, betas, don’t, though everyone has the potential to do so). There’s also a lot of alpha-omega-phobia and bigotry in this world, making it potentially dangerous, especially for omegas, who tend to be smaller/weaker.
More petite, effervescent sunny Cooper has been obsessed with his brother Jack’s gamer friend Jon ever since Jon (a foster kid and rough guy, whose first taste of a real family was when he met Jack and Cooper’s around this same time) rescued him from a gang of punks when Cooper was 15 and Jon 18.
Cooper is obsessed. Certain this is his guy. He’s a pest about it, vying for Jon’s attention, hanging around him as much as possible, and once Cooper turns 18…doing all he can to try to get Jon to admit they are made for each other. Or at least just kiss him! For his part, Jon resists, resists, resists…but damned if he’ll let ANYONE unworthy touch Cooper, being his big, glaring guardian everywhere, never touching Cooper himself, but glaring off anyone who dares get too close for too long.
It all goes…very wrong one night, and Cooper winds up backing off completely and sneering at Jon for another year. Until the day Cooper is about to depart on a solo road trip to drive his grandpa’s car to him in California, and suddenly, Cooper’s family thrusts Jon upon him, telling him he can’t go alone…
The chemistry and teasing are real, the flashbacks are sporadic, you get the gist of what happened (honestly, I didn’t understand why it put them at odds…a misunderstanding that only stood bc Cooper avoided/refused to even look at Jon after that, but, it felt weak to me… 🤷♀️ Oh well, that was tension bc tension was needed.)
They begin the road trip as enemies, Cooper protesting loudly, Jon bearing his disdain in his strong, silent fashion. And on the trip, their scents begin to distract each other…REALLY distract each other…and things escalate to an alpha-omega mutual presentation and heat and…yeah, things get a LOT better for these two from there!
It’s so fun, sweet and steamy and clearly these two are meant for each other. I liked the reason for the presenting, and enjoyed seeing Jon bend over backward to get Cooper any and everything his omega heart desired. The caretaking element here was stellar.
What I didn’t love is the kind of old-fashioned, MF type setup in which they are aware of each other for YEARS, and Cooper wants only Jon, but, Jon’s been hooking up with randos all that time. Not a lot, he’s no man-ho, but…yeah. Why the virgin who wants no one else, v. random hookups dynamic? If they really are meant for each other, why was Jon off being with people he admittedly didn’t care about or remember, while driving everyone away from Cooper? Unfair, and didn’t make sense to me. Fated mates isn’t a thing here, but, they really felt like it, and the unbalanced devotion was disappointing.
The characterizations and world are not deep or developed much, and nothing really happens beyond parties and then heat sex, but it is what it is.
I enjoyed seeing these two make their way to being together, and had fun in this relatively shallow but entertaining little read.
HEA, grumpy alpha, sunshine omega. Friends to a Moment to enemies to Lovers capital L. Heat, rut. Road trip. Best friend’s little bro. hero who feels unworthy of the other (which was kinda silly TBH). No OM action in the present; tons of OM drama from Cooper flirting and trying to get Jon to admit he doesn’t want Cooper to be with anyone else. Safe enough for me, but…yeah. Annoying backstory on OP for reasons stated above. Drama from horrid bigots along the way. Recommended for a nice brain break, and I want to read more from this author.

This was cute and fun to read! I loved their little meet cute and I loved getting little snippets of their past. Cooper is such a brat and a huge chaos gremlin and I absolutely adored him that way. Jon is very serious, stoic and rule following. Jon manages to keep his distance, but a roadtrip and a heat that came out of the blue really messes with his composure. I loved when it all came to a head and things needed to change.
Cooper and Jon are a fun and cute couple. I loved the fact that Jon could tame bratty Cooper immediately. It was fun to see Cooper putting himself out there and be himself. I really enjoyed the back and forth between Jon and Cooper.
I was giddy, kicking my legs and smiling while I read this. While sweet and fun, this was also funny and swoony.

Slick Trip by Lucy Castle was my first MM Omegaverse novel—and what an introduction!
The story follows nineteen-year-old Cooper and the object of his affection/mortal enemy, Jon, as they’re forced to endure a week-long road trip together. Things become even more complicated when their first motel has only one bed. Honestly, they never stood a chance!
Jon has spent years fighting his feelings for Cooper, believing he doesn’t deserve to be loved. However, when Cooper begins presenting as an omega and experiences his first heat, Jon finds himself presenting as an alpha—Cooper’s alpha—and can no longer deny how he feels.
This story was funny, touching and wonderfully spicy. Beneath all the bickering and chemistry, both Jon and Cooper are incredibly vulnerable, and I loved watching them finally admit their feelings.
Yes, Cooper is a brat—but he’s such a lovable one that you can forgive him almost anything. His tears after running out of chocolate raisins were also painfully relatable. Hormonal rollercoasters require snacks; those are simply the rules.
The story was extremely well written, and I was delighted to discover that another book is planned, focusing on Cooper’s brother—and Jon’s best friend—Jack, and newly presented omega Oliver, whom we meet briefly.
Overall, Slick Trip was everything I’ve come to expect from Lucy Castle: a light-hearted, touching and spicy MM romance that makes you fall in love with its characters and leaves you eager for more.

You ever finish a book and try to put into words how much you adored it but can't because you have a form of cute aggre$$ion where you just want to wrap it in a tight hug? 😅 Yeah.. that's where I'm at! I absolutely adored this book.
It was such a different take on Omega's and Alpha's, and had all the things we love about it! Like the possessive claiming need and want, as well as the protective instincts of an Alpha and the needy yet strong and brave Omega 😍. Cooper was an absolute delight! He had me laughing and in stitches but also had my heart melting for him because all he wanted in life was for Jon to love him.
Jon was also such complex and amazing character, he had a rough upbringing but beat all the odds to become an amazing man and friend, and all he wants is Cooper but doesn't believe he's good enough for him 🥹.
Thankfully, Cooper is able to show Jon how great he is and some forced proximity due to meddling family and a road trip across country forces these two to work through their issues👀 and work through them they did 🥵😈.
I absolutely do NOT want to give anything away because it is such a wholesome heartfelt read, with heaps of tension and just a smidge of angst to keep you on the edge of your seat that you definitely want to dive into head first! 💜

This was the perfect palate cleanser. Just a quick fun read, a really good mix of sweet and hot. Cooper and Jon are great together and who doesn't love a best friend's brother romance?

3.5 stars rounded up. I liked this one, it was a quick easy read. It has a very unique view on omegaverse as a whole and I enjoyed it. There wasn't much substance to it, but as a pallette cleanser it worked great. Looking forward to more from this world!! 🩷

I didn’t know what to expect when I started to read the book, I’m not familiar with the whole omega verse genre. It was nicely written and I appreciate the author for explaining it well so I could follow on with the story.
Cooper was just a doll, I loved his sassy, bratty character. He’s a carefree spirit who knows exactly what he wants, and will do anything to get it. In this case it’s Jon but then one night and BAM 😢
I swear Jon has the patience of a saint, he knows he shouldn’t be attracted to his best friend’s little brother but Coopers just so pretty!!! Well that and his quick wit can even bring a smile to Jon’s face.
I don’t wanna spoil it but guys COMMUNICATION IS KEY. But without that point, I wouldn’t of been able to watch Cooper and Jon’s journey back to each other 🥹🥹 Super curious about Coopers brother tho, I wonder what’s gonna happen when he presents and who he’ll be 👀

Cooper had Jon fighting for every bit of breath he had in him lol. This was a short , cute, and sexily funny read. Cooper the little mischievous brat kept the banter going with his comebacks and short temper and Jon the stoic possessive protector didn’t know if he was coming or going trying to keep up with it all. These boys are special to me for sure.

August 7, 2026Poor Jon is fighting for his life daily with Cooper but he's exactly where he wants to be 😂 I love it! Straight away I was hooked with the perfect level of tension and if there's a bratty omega *chefs kiss* I'm sold.
The banter between the two of them was gold.
Jon crashes Cooper's solo road trip, after a year of being ignored by him. The pining of both these men is so satisfying and I loved the writing pace. There was enough tension starting the trip and it exploded at just the write time. The story focuses more on their building relationship as omega and alpha, over the actual road trip which I really liked
It kept the sole focus on them finally being together after years of push and pull.
I loved the shift when Jon started to let his walls down a little, suspecting what was happening to Cooper and himself. It's a great starter book into the omegaverse and it had all my favourite parts:

Cooper is a 19 year old, in love with his brother best friend, Jon who's 22.
It's an omega-alpha story but a bit different then usual. In this world, while all people has a secondary designation, it's presented in only 5% of the population. And as in the real world, there are people trying to harm what they don't understand.
The tension until half way in the book, is really good (!), with past glimpses in between. Cooper is really bratty and his dynamic with serious Jon is really fun
But the second half feel rushed on their trip and then some parts that just don't feel connected. still a very cute book.
I have to say something, It's very realistic and normal to have an 18 year old attracted to 15 year old. There's nothing wrong here, he's not some old creep. More so, he doesn't act on it, so it's not even creepy or wrong.

The tension until half way in the book, is really good (!), with past glimpses in between. Cooper is really bratty and his dynamic with serious Jon is really fun
But the second half feel rushed on their trip and then some parts that just don't feel connected. still a very cute book.
I have to say something, It's very realistic and normal to have an 18 year old attracted to 15 year old. There's nothing wrong here, he's not some old creep. More so, he doesn't act on it, so it's not even creepy or wrong.

This book was so much fun. It's a really quick and easy read as well.
I'm obsessed with Cooper. He's my favorite kind of character. I love a super bratty, funny, flirty boy so much. I loved the parts where he was trying to make Jon jealous. I also found the way he acted when his heat was starting to be super fun and interesting.
I also loved Jon, and his massive "touch him and die" energy. I love how before Cooper could even finish getting himself in trouble Jon was already there. I'd be furious at him in real life for continuously denying his feelings for Cooper while simultaneously scaring away everyone he's trying to hook up with, but I love that trait in a book boyfriend.
i did think their miscommunication was dumb. I feel like Jon would have wanted to talk to Cooper about what happened to make sure he was okay after safe-wording out. (I understand he panicked in the moment, but later on.) So, it felt weird to me that they had let it fester for so long. But it didn't bother me too much.

Cooper is a total brat omega and he definitely needed the firm hand alpha. Jon was great about giving him what he needed. I really enjoyed the nests and even the humor of fully exhibiting omega behaviors while loudly professing not to be an omega. Ultimately I found this enjoyable. I did feel that some of the back story between these two was a little week but it didn't take away from their story in modern day.

Jon the grumpy, overprotective and caring person that he is even with his past history, he fell even harder for the sunshine bratty omega and I love it. I wish it was longer tbh would’ve loved to see how their relationship/ future turned out

Super cute feel-good read with characters that are easy to love and a surprising balance of wholesome and spice. I binged this book in a one day window (unheard of for me!) because I just wanted to keep grinning and kicking my feet a little longer.

Cooper and Jon are the two MMCs and they will have you giggling and tearing your hair out at the same time....
Cooper is the definition of a Brat, he's so sweet, cheeky, and most definitely a lovable character.
Jon.....yeah I wouldn't mind Jon being my grumpy sunshine lol. He is constantly watching over Cooper, doing the whole glaring thing and threatening others.
I was really needing a lovely, light hearted story to read and this 100% filled that need, everything about this book was beautiful.
There were quite a few times throughout reading that I was actually telling Cooper to shushhh, he's so damn witty and has absolutely no filter, that's what makes him so adorable.
Everytime I see chocolate raisins...I will think of Cooper when he's in heat, oh and the monkey & fluffy nest.

Absolutely the cutest. Cooper and Jon are quintessential enemies to lovers. Copper’s sass absolutely makes this book and Jon pretending not to be all growly about it is even better. When the omega situation starts to take hold, it goes from great to me kicking my feet about it. Something about copper insisting he’s not building a nest while he builds a nest is just the cutest thing. I love them and I can’t wait to reread this!!

I absolutely adored both Cooper and Jon! This was such a fun story that had me laughing out loud throughout the whole book. The banter between the characters was everything I was hoping it would be and more! Cooper is now up there with my other bratty favorite boys. Absolutely swooned over the way Jon caved, when Cooper used his bratty superpower on him! The scenes from the past gave such good context on why they didn’t talk for awhile, and how they both felt during that time! Some of my favorite moments in the story are the store, nest, when they test each other, and the ending when Cooper goes to the bar! Thank you Lucy for bringing Cooper and Jon into the world! And thank you for picking me to review them early!

Cooper is such a dramatic sassy king. I love his snark and charisma. Jon is an extension of Cooper whether he likes it or not. He makes Cooper better and brings out the best in him. Of course we have a little misunderstanding. Some Miss communication you could call it. Scrap that, there honestly was no communication 😅 getting all the bits and pieces and slowly building up to what really happened the night Jon made Cooper cry, was infuriating in the best way. I was eating up all the crumbs leading me to that night and the resolution was so beautiful. Jon really pulled through and finally opened up to cooper (Poor man needs therapy) we got our happy ending. Was delightfully fluffy, spicy and chucked full of sarcasm. Was a great quick read 🥰❤️
