Amnesia

I’m scared.
When will this nightmare end?

Darkness and cold has tortured me.
I can’t remember anything.

He’s coming.
His footsteps echo like a wrecking ball in my head.

He’s getting closer.
Breathe.

He’s almost here.
I must escape.

He’s here.
Breath tickles my face.

With what little strength I have, I find my way to the sunlight.

Tortured moans become more distant.
Run faster.

I drop with exhaustion.
Did I make it far enough?

I’m being lifted.
Warmth engulfs me.

Please let this be my savior and not my captor.

Amnesia is a closed door romance and was previously released under the pen name, Ellie Grace.

'A slow-burn, heart-thumping, romantic suspense that you won't forget any time soon. Millie, aka 'Kelly', ups her closed-door romance game with this thrilling tale of being lost, found and finding a new life' - The British Bibliophile

Thank you to Millie 'aka, Kelly Elliott' for sending me an ebook Advanced Reader Copy for me to read and leave and honest review, as part of her ARC team

NOTE - This review will be spoiler-free as standard for my reviews, but will contain references to the contents of the book's blurb. If you wish to go into this read blind without knowing a single thing about it, please exit my review now :)

Amnesia is the second standalone novel written by Millie Lark, aka 'Kelly Elliott', writing under this name for her series of closed-door romance novels. Same content we love from those who know her as Kelly, focusing more on the story and not what happens between the sheets of a bed. In essence, honing on the core romance of the story.

A reminder for those both familiar and not with Kelly, novels such as these as previously mentioned, were going to be written strictly as 'closed-door' romances. What that means, is that all of the intimate scenes we would usually see on the page in a scene, now take place not on the page. It may be mentioned about in passing or summarised at some point in the following chapter, but we won't see the action itself. For some, closed-door romances are off the table, going only for books full of spice only. If this is your preference, that is fine. However, I urge any reader to give closed-door romances like this and Millie’s previous book, Saved by Love a chance. As a reader myself who didn't go for them as a rule, I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed that kind of story. I'm fully convinced it's because it's Millie who is writing them, so I hope you take the chance to discover why sometimes stepping away from steam can be just as good as immersing yourself in it.

When we got the cover + blurb reveal for Amnesia , I was automatically sold. One, because it's Kelly but two? I LOVE a good amnesia romance novel! I don't get to read them half as much as I would like to, so when Millie offered this up as her next standalone read? I knew that I was going to both savour and enjoy it. Millie’s books--when written as Kelly--are always ones that can be consumed in no time at all. They're deliciously addictive to the point where when you begin, you don't stop until you're at the end and every word has been read. That said, I was determined to make my time with this next standalone last as long as I could, and six days were well-spent with this instalment.

Mallory is living in a continuous nightmare, praying that some moment soon it will end so she can have peace. Accompanying her nightmare are both the darkness, cold and of course, amnesia. She cannot remember a single thing. All that she does know, is that he is coming. His footsteps precede him and echo to her like a ball inside her head as he gets closer and closer. Keeping her breathing under control, she knows there's only one thing she must do. Escape. It's the only way to save her from the stagnant breath of his that breaths on her face.

With the little, lingering strength that she has, she seizes the opportunity and flees for the sunlight that she has been withheld from since her capture. She leaves behind her the tortured moans of the one with the foul breath, running faster and faster as the distance between them grows bigger. Soon, she finds herself dropping with exhaustion after so long on the run. How long? She doesn't know. She only prays that however far that she has managed to get is enough to ensure her safety.

Sanctuary finds its way to Mallory in the form of two, warm arms that lift her from the frozen ground where she fell. At least, that's what she hopes. These arms could well be those of her captor and not a saviour.

As a reader who loves a good romantic suspense, I couldn't have been happier to have read a book that contained not only that but with it teamed with one of my favourite tropes. Amnesia. The trope isn't always synonymous with the genre, as it can be its own micro-trope and passing element within a romantic comedy or a book of another genre type, but when its done just right? An amazingly unique story is born. This is exactly what happened here. Again, I usually see mafia romance or dark suspense follow the amnesia theme, but Millie takes it in the small-town, cowboy direction and I'm pleased to announce that I thought it worked out well! There was a dash of insta-love thrown in there, though I wouldn't say it was a major trope defining the book on the whole. Other micro-tropes do make themselves known, but I'll leave you to discover what they are when you sit down with this book and get to know both Mallory and our leading man, Liam, as well as other residents and supporting character that make this story such a fantastic one. There are a few scene-stealing supporting characters here, and I'm living for it!

Although I'm not a solid fan of closed-door romances, with every read that Millie writes and releases, I'm warming up to and enjoying them more and more. They're a brilliant breather from the heavy, dark, intense reads that are dominating the book world right now, and I know I'm always in safe hands regardless of where the story goes, when its Millie/Kelly who is at the helm. I thoroughly enjoyed her debut as Millie Lark with Saved by Love but out of the two? I can confirm that Amnesia is my personal favourite. It resonated with me more with my reading tastes, and for me it shows her growth and stability both in writing books like these under her new pen name. Chefs kiss!

If this is the beginning of what Kelly can do writing as Millie? It's safe to say that I'm in this for the long-haul and very much looking forward to all the titles, stories and characters that have yet to flow forth from her fingertips.

Millie, you've more than earned yourself your second five star in a row from a very happy, very satisfied reader.

I absolutely loved Amnesia by Kelly Elliott written as Millie Lark. Amnesia is a wonderful romantic suspense love story, it filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions, and it was impossible to put it down. I loved every moment on every page. I can honestly say that Amnesia is one of the most enjoyable books that I have read recently. Kelly Elliott continues to be one of my favorite authors to read. Amnesia is a closed-door romantic suspense love story. Amnesia is the story of Mallory Wilson and Liam Sanders, owner and operator of a cattle ranch in Grass Range, Montana. While returning home during a storm, Liam discovers Mallory unconscious in a field on his ranch. Liam takes care of Mallory and discovers that she has amnesia and does not remember anything that happened to her. She remembers being held captive and that she hit her captor in the head with a brick that she loosened from the room where she was being held and escaping. She ran through woods for what seemed like two days. She remembers her captive calling her Mallory, but that is all she remembers about the entire experience. The only thing that Mallory remembers is the laugh of her captor. To Liam’s surprise, Mallory is wearing a locket that belonged to his fiancée, Emily, who disappeared six years ago. Mallory informed Liam that she found the locket in the room where she was being held. Liam reaches out to his cousin Randy for help finding out what happened to Mallory, who is behind it, and who she really is. Mallory wonders if she has a family who is missing her. As Mallory and Liam begin spending time together things change between them. Conversation between Mallory and Liam flows so easily. I love that Kelly Elliott kept me guessing as to who was behind everything that happened to Mallory. Randy is able to determine Mallory’s real identity through her fingerprints. Mallory learns that she is from Illinois and that her last living relative, her grandmother died prior to her getting kidnapped. Randy keeps hitting dead ends in his investigation as to how Mallory gets to Montana. Slowly Mallory starts regaining her memory until she remembers everything. An unexpected plot twist reveals everything, especially what happened to Emily. I love all the heart-to-heart conversations that happen in Amnesia. I love that even though neither Mallory nor Liam were looking for love, they ended up falling in love with one another. Amnesia was an amazing love story, and that Mallory and Liam got the happily ever after that neither one realized they were looking for. I loved all the surprises that filled the pages of this love story. I love the changes that Mallory makes in her life to have a future in Grass Range. I love the changes that Liam makes in his life, to have a life with Mallory. My favorite part is the ending and how it goes above and beyond the happily ever after. I especially loved Liam’s proposal, and the significance of his engagement ring. I also loved the epilogue that takes place two years later and is told from Liam’s perspective, it is the perfect ending to their love story. I love the surprise revealed. Kelly Elliott has once again provided her readers with the amazing characters that I have come to love and expect in her books, they feel like family! Who does not love hot sexy men, strong, passionate females, loving families, and caring friends, who always support each other? She continues to deliver all that and so much more. I love how she always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. Kelly Elliott continues to deliver incredibly written love stories that I LOVE reading and is one of my favorite authors to read. So, I am sure that as she writes as Millie Lark, she will continue to be one of my favorite authors to read. She definitely did not disappoint her readers with all the feels in Amnesia and has delivered an amazing story filled with everything that I have come to love about her books. I am not sure how she does it, but Kelly Elliott has given her readers a remarkable book. Amnesia is filled with all the heartbreaking and heartwarming moments, plot twists and surprises that I have come to love and expect in her love stories, I especially loved the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. She is an incredible storyteller. I love that Amnesia is written in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting inside their minds and knowing their thoughts and how they really feel. I enjoy all the interactions among all the quilting group women and Liam’s friends; it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I love that Liam reunited with his brother, Chad. I love the descriptions of Grass Range and the surrounding areas. Amnesia is an incredibly written romantic suspense love story, that had me guessing to the end, and I loved every moment. Cannot wait to read other books by Kelly Elliott written as Millie Lark. Highly recommend this beautifully written story. I received an advanced copy from the author.

She escaped the nightmare, but with no memory of who she is… she may not have escaped the danger after all. And some secrets refuse to stay buried!

⛈️ “I almost think remembering is worse than forgetting everything.”

Between the danger, missing memories, mysterious connections, and a swoony rancher determined to protect her, I was constantly wondering what would happen next… and who the " monster " is 👀

This romantic suspense is Millie Lark’s first, and she blends small-town heart with suspense, mystery, and plenty of “okay, but WHO is the bad guy?!” moments. And it proves you don’t need wild spice to keep the tension simmering.

Liam and Mallory’s chemistry is instant, yet their connection slowly simmers as their story unfolds. And that twist? It hit like a freight train. I had an inkling and so many theories, but I definitely didn’t figure out who was behind it all!

Small-town charm, buried secrets, missing memories, simmering romance, and suspense that will keep you wondering until the truth finally comes to light.

Amnesia is a bit of a departure from Kelly Elliott wring under her new pen name, but a departure in the best way! From page one, this book has all kinds of suspense and mystery and danger. Mallory is found by the wealthy ranch owner, Liam hardly conscious, beaten, bruised and soaked from the rain with no memory and only that she was held captive and escaped.

Liam remembering his own tragic past instantly feels a connection between them and vows to protect Mallory at all costs. What starts out as helping a stranger in need turns into something life changing for both of them. This story pulled me in right away. Mallory was found in dire circumstances, but she found her strength all with Liam by her side. And what she found was family.

As they look to uncover how Mallory ended up in Montana, they realize their digging is a little too close for comfort and they are in the for the shock of their lives. There’s always danger lurking in the background wondering who kidnapped Mallory, meanwhile Liam learns Mallory’s kidnapping is connected to his past and perhaps unearthing her truth will set his past free. This was a great book that has trauma, love, friendship , community, family and found family. The entire time you’re wondering who did it?!

Mallory is alone in the world, trying to start a new life. Everything is starting to look up, until someone appears in her hotel room and her life is upended. Liam is trying to move past losing the woman he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Unfortunately, that isn’t easy to do when he has no answers to what happened.

When he spots her in one of his pastures, she is barely alive. When she finally wakes up, she only remembers her name, or at least she thinks it’s her name. While trying to figure who she is, where she is from and what exactly happened to her, they grow closer and he is very protective of her. His family and friends are great.

This book kept me guessing as to who took her, but I did have an inkling of who it was. Whether Liam can keep her safe, find out what happened to Emily (even though he fears he has the answer when Mallory has a locket) and figure out who took her, remains to be seen. The connection and relationship between Liam and Mallory moved quickly, but it was sweet at the same time. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

Amnesia is amazing. I loved every moment of this one. I could not put it down. Mallory and Liam are everything. I just love what Millie Lark aka Kelly Elliott brings to the pages with all the twists and turns. Liam owns a ranch and has not healed over the loss of his fiance. Mallory is trying to prove she can make it in the city. She is a bit on a loner and until she is kidnapped and cannot remember anything does she start living. I love the connection Liam and Mallory form as they work to get her memory back and find out who took her. Liam is so protective and seeing him start living again around Mallory is just wonderful. You are not going to want to put this down as Mallory and Liam solve what happened and who is behind it all. I could not get enough of Mallory and Liam. You need to read this today. I cannot wait to see what Millie Lark brings to the pages next. Go one click this now.

This is the first book I’ve read from Kelly Elliott writing as Ellie Grace and WOW, what a fantastic book. This book is a fantastic page-turner that kept me glued to my iPad. I couldn’t read this book fast enough. Liam finds Mallory during a storm, on his ranch. She’s hurt and has amnesia. As Liam cares for her, he finds a necklace, which had belonged to his fiancée, Emily. Liam wants to involve the police, but Mallory begs him not to. As we read this book, we learn that Emily disappeared six years ago. At first it was believed she drowned, until blood was found in her car. Will Mallory lead Liam to finding out what happened to Emily. I’m not going to leave any spoilers, but I highly recommend this book to everyone that loves a great suspenseful book with a good romance. See if you can figure out who was behind Mallory’s kidnapping. I thought I knew who it was, but I’m so glad my first choice was wrong. Grab your copy and get ready to take a trip to Montana.

What a wild ride! This story had me completely gripped from the prologue to the very last word. I couldn’t read it fast enough, yet I never wanted it to end. Liam absolutely has my heart — after everything he’s been through, I fell for him hard. Mallory, with no memory and no idea who she can trust, relies on the one person who found her: Liam. Both characters have endured so much, and watching them help each other heal was incredibly moving. The suspense element was fantastic. I was constantly trying to figure out who the villain was, and the story kept me guessing right to the end — I loved that! I won’t say too much because this is a story you need to experience for yourself, with all its twists and turns. If you enjoy romantic suspense, I highly recommend this book. I loved everything about it and can’t wait to read more from Millie.

I am a sucker for romantic suspense's and I devoured this one. I loved the suspense and wanting to get down to what happened with Mallory and how everything is connected. It had me turning the page and not wanting to stop because I couldn’t wait to know.

I love the connection that Mallory and Liam have. I love how protective Liam is when it comes to Mallory and that he will do anything to keep her safe and help her find out what happened. I felt for Mallory, not knowing what happened to you and hoping that if you learn the truth it won’t ruin everything you have just developed.

If you’re a fan of small town, the amnesia trope, romantic suspense's then check this one out.

Amnesia was a fast-paced, entertaining romantic suspense that kept me guessing! I had my suspicions about pretty much everyone 😂, and while I figured out a few things, there were still plenty of twists and surprises along the way.

I loved Mallory and Liam! ❤️ Watching Mallory learn to trust Liam, while they helped each other heal, was one of my favorite parts. I also loved Liam’s determination to protect her while helping her piece together her memories and uncover the truth.

I really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it! ❤️

Thank you to Millie Lark and Kelly Elliott for the ARC and fun book club ride!

A page turner, beautifully written, a mystery to solve, and a love story all wrapped up in Millie Lark’s latest.

A quick read, with my attention never wavering. The twists and turns and who to trust, but throughout the story, Mallory knew she could trust Liam. Will he help her remember?

A stand alone, but I hope that Kelly Elliott writing as Millie Lark explores this story and these characters further.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Amnesia is a romantic suspense with twists and turns that keep you on your toes. The characters of Mallory and Liam are captivating, and as they dive into the mystery of how Mallory ended up unconscious and beaten on his land.

Liam became so protective of Mallory. He is still healing over the loss of his fiancé who disappeared without a trace and helps Mallory find her footing. The connection they form is life changing.

The danger always seemed to be there in the background, figuring out who kidnapped Mallory, held her hostage and is it connected to Liam’s past.

This is a wonderful romantic suspense. This is a slow burn, instant attraction romance, but closed door (no spice). It is the story of Mallory’s escape from her kidnapper. She is found by Liam, exhausted and unconscious on his ranch, but she has no memories on how she got there or how she was injured.

They get to know each other as they try to unravel the mystery of her abduction and her memory loss. Along the way the attraction turns from a physical attraction to something deeper and stronger. A great read and a great mystery.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Amnesia by Millie Lark

Millie sets the tone and stage with her descriptive writing. This was like a true crime movie, romantic love story, and the crime to solve.
It had me questioning the people as they are introduced in the book. I love that it kept me guessing and I really didn’t know who done it until it was unfolding. A great story glad it was picked for a book club read. Definitely recommend if you enjoy protective cowboy, a sweet lab pup, a fmc who fights to survive and a found family on a ranch in Montana.

This is a suspense storyline but I will say I did LOL on a few parts, it was a good laugh to. Mallory and Liam meet in a very unusual way in the pouring down rain on his ranch. The events that lead up to and after they meet will keep you on the edge if your seat as their lives intertwine with the events that happen that caused Mallory to lose her memory. Loved this story and storyline.

Wow. What a ride!!

Kelly Elliott writing as Millie Lark sure has knocked it out the park with this romantic suspense. Liam and Mallory are destined to be together. When Liam finds Mallory on his ranch, he can't understand how and what happened to her but he knows he needs to protect her. As she is unaware of who she is, they start to figure it out. I was truly hooked from the beginning and did not see the twist and turns there were.

Well written but predictable. At least I thought so.
It’s a wild story. A half dead woman is found on a remote part of a ranch. The ranch owner takes her into his care to heal her. Her tale of how she got there is tragic and bizarre. And she’s wearing a locket that belongs to the rancher’s missing fiancée.
A lot of repetition in the book. A very slow burn and a quick relationship all at once.
So many interconnected lines. And intersecting relationships.
Very happy ending though.

Suspenseful

A new author to me. This was a very suspenseful story that had me up late reading. Mallory is found by Liam one night after running away from a kidnapper. She had been beaten and once awake was dealing with amnesia. They work trying to figure out who she is, who kidnapped her and where she was held. It has a great cast of characters. The romance offset the heaviness of her kidnapping. A good blend of romance and suspense.

This book has all the elements needed.for a romantic suspense:!

Liam finds Mallory passed out on his ranch after escaping her kidnapper.
I really like the connections Mallory made with the other women. The sweet love story that developed between the two was gradual after the initial insta attraction.

The story flowed well and there was enough suspects to keep readers guessing until the end!

What happened to Mallory was horrible and I was trying to solve the mystery behind the incident as I read. The suspense kept things interesting even as I happily rooted for Mallory and Liam to find a way to be together.

The ending was perfect and I loved how Mallory finally finds her place with Liam and the rest of the ranch family.

Amnesia is written by Millie Lark aka Kelly Elliott, and if you read any of Kelly’s other books then this one won’t let you down.

In the Prologue we meet Mallory and then it goes dark as she encounters someone in her apartment. Then chapter one introduces us to Liam who runs his own ranch, whose fiancé Emily went missing and was never found. One his way back across the ranch to his house he finds Mallory laying in a field unconscious. He takes her back to his place, gets her into warm dry clothes, and waits until she wakes up. Liam takes care of Mallory and when she wakes up he has the burning question on why Mallory is wearing Emily’s necklace.

When Mallory tells Liam the story of how she escaped, how she found the necklace, and how she can’t remember anything prior to that Liam takes it upon himself to protect her at all costs and help her get her memory back. Mallory stresses that if she could hear her captors laugh she would automatically know it was him. Half way through the book Mallory agrees to meet with Randy who is Liam’s cousin, and with the help from Randy he can find out exactly who Mallory is.

But I will leave it at that as I don’t want to spoil the whole book for anyone who wants to read it. This book will have you finishing it in a day I promise

Captivating story. A kidnapping victim, a death, a lot of puzzles and hardly any information. Slowly the pieces gather together and it starts to give a picture. Nobody excepted the results. And in all of that Liam and Mallory’s love story unfolds.

A woman with amnesia escapes from her kidnapper and is rescued by a ranch owner whose fiancée was kidnapped by the same man six years prior.

Liam’s dog was a cute addition, but I wasn’t a fan of the writing style or the insta-love.

It as a good story. However, the romance between Liam
and Mallory was a little too quick and corny. Also, if she hit her accuser in the head, why didn’t he have an injury?
