Interesting true story of Reeder and her partner's grueling hike of the Appalachian Trail in memory of her cousin, who some years earlier had been murdered with her boyfriend in a shelter on the AT. I had not realized what an obstacle course the trail is. Reeder's descriptions of the rough stretches, the falls, the cold, and other hardships were interspersed with excerpts of her cousin's journal on the Trail and fascinating historical tidbits. I particularly was taken with learned that Herman Melville's inspiration for Moby Dick was the shape of a mountain along the AT!
