StepSister Devotion II

Rate this book
Forbidden love between a stepbrother and a stepsister. Told from the male point of view. 18+ due to sex scenes and language.

Deep down, I knew we were doomed. In a society where image and morals matter, we were never going to be together. She warned me, I didn't listen. And I'm broken as a result. Broken, alone, tortured by the memory of a love I can't have.
Three years later, it still hurts. Every day, it hurts to live without her. I bottle up my pain, forcing my love to turn to hatred, holding it tight in my fist, using it to fuel the lyrics to my songs, to fill my music with the pain I feel. It makes me famous. But the pain is still there. Always pain.
I'm dying without her.
When my career takes off, I'm introduced to a woman who will become my best friend. She's lived a life with secrets and she sees them in me, teaches me to let them go, and through my music, I allow my story to unfold. It takes another two years, but I begin to breathe. I begin to heal.
Then I see her, and it's like no time passed at all. The feelings are the same. But nothing has changed. I can't survive this again. I can't let her back in. I'm stronger now. I can say no. I can walk away–can't I?

Eve Cates is a twenty-something author of contemporary romance. She loves all things naughty, demanding men and difficult situations (pass the popcorn please). Her first series, StepSister Devotion, will be told in four parts, releasing via Kindle Unlimited.

Eve has loved writing ever since she picked up her first crayon and penned a note to her imaginary friend 'Pok'. Accused of being a 'dreamer' as she grew, she's taken that notion and turned her daydreams into stories to delight and satisfy her readers.

When she isn't writing, you'll find her at home with her husband, four children, and two dogs.

The second part begins 3 years after the ending to part one, where Sebastian left his fathers home knowing that Abigail would never be his.

Using his anger and hurt for not having the only person he wants, he writes music for a love that is lost. When his talent gains notoriety, he is climbing the ladder in becoming a music star.

 photo image.jpg1_zpsw2bugysb.jpg

When he is finally starting to accept the separation knowing he needs to move on, she comes back, and she has news.

I want to blame her for everything that is shit in my life. But when I look at her...god, she's still so fucking beautiful and she smells like...like the only scent that matters...

I am far from being an expert when it comes to this sub-genre of taboo books, but I will say, the story is written really well, and may possibly be one of my favorites so far on this subject.

Eve Cates has brought me deeper into the mind and heart of our broken hero, Sebastian. This one is filled with some great angst, and more forbidden lust. Most authors centralize on the smuttiness of the situation, but I think she has done an AMAZING job in creating a lot of emotional depth. This story is becoming heart breaking, and I am so emotionally invested in these two. This one ended with an even bigger cliffhanger. Gah! I'm so glad there is no wait!!!

If this is a topic you like to read about, I highly recommend you give this a shot. I understand the hesitancy for not getting involved with a serial novella. I am the first person to balk at these books, but I really think that it is worth it.

And now on to the next...

Sebastian has a hard time finding his place in a world without Abbi. When he stormed out after their summer together he left his heart with her. She's still everywhere. In his music and in his tattoos. He tries to forget her and move on but finds himself on a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol trying to drown out her memory. When he finally starts putting the pieces of his heart and life back together she's right there to destroy him again.

Abbi's whole life has been planned out for her. Her feelings and wants have no place in her life. She marrys for family alliance not for love. Her mother is cruel and ruthless and uses anything to get her way. This should be a happy time for Abbi but all she wants is Sebastian. They reconnect and decide to be friends. Sebastian agrees to attend her wedding only to fall more in love with her.

This story has all the elements to crush you heart and hopes. Family is supposed to love you unconditionally yet there's not a lot of that here. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As disturbing as some parts were I found myself unable to put it down. A definite 5 stars from this Cranky reviewer.

When book 1 ended I literally could not wait for book 2. My mouth was hanging open and I was yelling NO!!! In this book, I got mad quite a few times my poor Sebastian.

Its 3 years later after Abigail left Sebastian to go do was she is supposed to do. Seb is broken and torn but now he has also succeeded with his music career. I was so very happy that he succeeded and was now able to do something he loved. Once Seb realizes he is getting better and life does move on his whole world is flipped upside down again when Abigail walks back into his life.

Ok let me just say I love Sebastian but I don’t like Abby at all. The reason I don’t like her is because she always chooses what everyone else wants instead of choosing what she wants. She has literally tore Seb down so many times. I know she loves him but for ONCE I wish she would actually choose to make herself and Seb happy.

I still completely HATE Sebastian’s stepmother and father. I have never seen two people who treat someone so badly. When book 2 ends, I yelled and screamed again. I am ready to go into book 3. I can only hope that my poor Seb can actually catch a break soon. He deserves to be happy… so ready or not book 3 here I come.

I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

“It’s perfect. It’s raw. It’s a window into your heart. It’s beautiful.”

I absolutely loved Stepsister Devotion, Book 1. Seb and Abi’s whirlwind, forbidden stepsibling romance pulled me in and wouldn’t let me go. I have been anticipating Book 2 since that time.

Sebastian is running from his past. Taking every turn away from it, he uses whatever he can to detour himself from the memories of her. She haunts him. He's found a niche and love that keeps him occupied and fills his time. But, he always remembers her. Abi left him to attend school and eventually become the heir to her family’s business. She could not have him and keep this dream intact, so she gave him up.

In Book 2 we are reacquainted with Seb and Abi at a different time and place than when we previously met them. We become familiar with their surroundings and current life occupations. Many things have changed for Sebastian, with that ONE constant still remaining. He has grown in many areas of his life and has dawned a mask to block out the remains of what could have been. When we first see him in the story, it is not Abi that is by his side. But, she soon appears and it’s as if no time has passed. There are too many unanswered questions from the past and they must decide what the outcome will be. This book takes us through a maze of circumstances that can only lead to one conclusion.

When I started this read, it was as if I had never left Book 1 in the series. This book was a little slower-paced than the first, but with the same great writing style that Eve Cates offered us in Book 1. I continued to be enamored with Seb. He was still the hot, sexy character from before, but he had grown up and become a man, and what a man he was! I was sympathetic with Abi’s plight, but wanted to shake her! She really should have chosen differently from the very beginning. Near the end of the book, I found myself grabbing for the box of tissues and letting it all out. Once again, I looked for the calendar and started counting the days until the release of Book 3.

I could not put this down, once I commenced page one I could not leave Seb and Abigail, I was stuck in this world until the dramatic ending - again !! When is part three coming, argh he left his phone, who will find it with that dam message, Eve Cates what are you doing to me?

Step Sister Devotion Part Two picks up a few years along with Seb now a music star but we also get a back story of how this came about after the ending in Part One when he wakes up from turning 18 and having his heart broken.

I felt more connection in this part to Abigail and also can I say Seb's music partner and her lover are great supporting characters in his life. I am so proud he has made his way in life with music and having his own money.

Cynthia his evil step mother is still a bitch but does not play such a big part in this story but I did enjoy the dance scene with Seb and Cynthia, interesting times I think are coming. What is the story with the Aunty at the pre wedding dinner, does she know about Seb and Abigail? There were open ended questions at that dinner conversation or perhaps I was hoping?

I actually am loving Abigail and how we find out more about her family story, the expectations and connections since she was a teenager and good on Seb for making a stand. OMG just had a thought, did they use protection, what is in Eve Cates mind for these characters? That is a question circling my brain and heart that keeps me coming back for more, what has she got in store for these tortured two lovers who cannot be together.

What will part three hold for us? It can only be more twists and turns, emotion and love, I cannot believe I have been totally sucked into this story - it truly is like a dirty little secret!

There is no person on this planet that is worth losing yourself over. Sebastian has gone to prove that he does exist, that he is a huge part of the world. Even with everything he is he still is stuck on the one thing he can't have.

Abby is still not a likable person for me, I think she is manipulative and selfish. Honestly I think she if full of a lot of sh*t! I call BULL**IT on the whole sham. That whole side of the family is not worth an ounce of the heartache they have inflicted.

I want to see Sebastian happy because if he stays broken he may just grow a vagina. He needs to alpha up a little bit. There are better fish in the sea. Who gives a flying fig if someone is your step-sister, free love folks! But if that woman is Abi....run far, far away and do not look back!

I can not wait to see where the rest of this goes!

I'm going to try to make this brief and spoiler free because this is part of a serial and you absolutely must read part one.

StepSister Devotion II picks up three years after part one ends. A lot has changed in Seb's life, as well as Abi's. The feelings between these two are still there, unchanged. Now there are even bigger hurdles in their path. When Seb gives Abi an ultimatum, will she choose love or duty?

I liked this installment in the A Stepbrother Romance serial much better than the first. It really delves deep into Sebastian's head and his heartache. While it's not as hot as the first part, it's definitely a good read. I'm still holding out hope that we get Abigail's POV at some point.

This is part two in a serial and cannot be read as a standalone. ~ Erin, 4 stars

OMG I just want to hug Sebastian.
Sebastian fell in love with his step sister Abigail and got his heart broke. Their love for each other is forbidden but feels so right. Abigail loves Sebastian. really loves Sebastian but she's done been promised to Tommy, she has to marry him for the sake of her family's company name and to protect Sebastian, but can she just be a sibling to Sebastian. Sebastian knows deep down that Abigail loves him but can he get her to leave everything behind for it. I loved this book, Sebastian is hot. I liked Abigail a little bit better in this book. but I still want to slap her and her mothet. of course Eve leaves us with wanting more, needing more. loved it.

I received an ARC from United Indie Book Blog in exchange for an honest review.

So book #1 ends with Sebastian turning 18 and me with a mountain of kleenex next to me ....full on snot fest !

I want to drown Cynthia in a puddle of mud ....hearing her skank ass gurgle in it will only give me pleasure !
Who the hell does she think she is playing with people's lives and emotions ?! My heart , or what's left of it , just shatters for Sebastian ! He's broken and in hindsight its that brokenness that will count in his favour.
3 years later and Abigail waltzes back into Sebastian's  life and out comes my kleenex!
At least this time round Sebastian isn't by himself when his world crumbles again. Chelsea is by his side and they're good friends with no romantic interest at all.

Sometimes I just want to shake Abigail and beg her to make a decision already! Poor Seb suffers each time and he's like a moth to a flame where Abigail is concerned.

Again,  at the end , I find myself screaming and crying....sounds like a 2 year is throwing a tantrum! I'm shattered I am !

Another gut wrenching ★★★★★ read .

Eve Cates sure knows how to keep you wanting more. I liked that we pick up a few years later. Also, this one was done in Sebastian's POV. At the end of part one my heart ached for Sebs and what he went through. To see him still struggling three years later is heartbreaking. It was interesting to see how he got to where he is and his fears for the future. Love the relationship between Chelsea and even Renee when she is around! While I am still not a huge fan of Abi I did enjoy getting to learn a little more about why she thinks she can never be with Sebastian. Halfway to a happily ever after or more heartbreak. I for one can not wait for part 3. For all those Cynthia lovers, don't worry she shows her ugly face.

Well.. That book was just as gripping as book #1.. I literally devoured this book.. So well written, such a "I can't put down read"..

I loved the seeing Sab finally reach this level of success, I love hearing how he used heartache and musical talent to be successful.

I loved Chelsea and Renee, such great warm characters. Loved how Eve wrote them into the story, they were the perfect voice of reason for this this story.

OMG... Abi.. I at this point feel she is a tease.. (Sorry) leave him alone if you can not give anything to him. Stop torturing him.. grr.. I think this book was amazing.. enjoyed every bit of it.

Can not wait till book #3..

Another fantastic instalment from Eve! I loved seeing how Sebastian had matured into an older but still young man! He really pulls at my heart because he is so broken but trying so hard to push past his pain. I hated Abigail in this part! She caused so much more harm than good. I am sure she thought she was doing the right thing but she just continued to keep hurting Seb. I abhor Tommy. Let’s be honest, the guy is a tool! I really enjoyed this part and was gutted about the cliff hanger! Fingers crossed I get the ending I want! Wonderful book. 5 stars

I can't put this series down. Seb and Abigail are so drawn to each other but just can't seem to find each other for too long.

This book opens some times after book 1 ends. It shows that Zeb has made himself a great music career and his music reflects his feelings about what has happened with Abigail.

I yelled often in this book because I couldn't believe that Zeb was "falling" again and Abigail still didn't know how to put her feelings first rather than what she is expected to do.

Can't wait until book 3.

I (heart) Seb

I love Sebastian's character. He's tough and loving and painful and brooding and soft all rolled into one delicious character. I'm not sure what to think of Abi. She is so trapped in her socialite world, willing to be unhappy and numb for the rest of her life. I really hope she chooses Seb in the next book. I don't think I could read another book about Sebs heartbreak.

so Sebastian's life is equal parts emotional suffering and professional success. I still adore the character but Abigail comes off as very selfish asking him to come to her wedding only AFTER setting his life into turmoil for a second time. I love the chemistry between Seb and Abi but geezus how much can a poor man take!!! Nevertheless it was another fabulous read that I could not put down!

i hate that abigail was weak, wouldn't stand up for seb, hid things from him and thought she had NO OTHER CHOICE in things. all their heartache was unnecessary and it seemed like seb hurt sooo much more than she did. bottomline, for me, abigail was selfish. seb deserved so much better. i only finished the book for seb.
