When college senior Jane Lamb dies suddenly, she discovers that the afterlife is less pearly gates and fluffy clouds and more standing in line at the DMV. But before she can spend eternity lamenting over her short, unremarkable life, she’s offered a do-over—as a Conduit, a reincarnated messenger contracted to reap souls.
Determined to do things right the second time, Jane takes the job and reincarnates as eighteen-year-old college freshman Liv Hartley. Only, the excitement for her new life doesn’t last. There are consequences to bearing the coveted infinity symbol tattoo marking her as a Conduit, and Liv quickly finds that getting a second chance doesn’t mean getting a better one. Possessive demons, stolen assignments, and a love life that’s decidedly complicated are all a far cry from the mundane existence Jane led. But with more questions piling up than bodies, there’s only one thing Liv knows for sure: life doesn’t get any easier after death.
Filled with sparkling wit, conflicted romance, and more spirit than a haunted mansion, Conduit is a fun-filled paranormal that explores the idea of regret, love, and what we would give to live twice.
C.C. Dowling is an author who writes everything from gritty urban fantasy, to paranormal sci-fi, to steamy contemporary erotic romance (under the pen name C.C. Wylde. Full length titles to be released in 2018).
C.C. shares her love of writing with her love of singing, music, and science. She spent the first half of her college life performing, and the second half in a lab.
C.C. currently lives in America's finest city, with her husband (the financial shaman), her two children (who love to play in the yard with the faeries), and her very real pet dragon (who guards the perimeter of her house at night).
When she’s not working or writing (which is still technically working), C.C. can be found playing a round of disc golf, or desperately trying to figure out which pair of sandals are the most appropriate for the harsh Southern California winters.
I LOVED this book. There were twists and turns throughout, and I never knew what was going to happen next. C.C. broke my heart, and then sort of fixed it again, only to break it once more when I got to the end of the book!
The cast of 'afterlife' characters and C.C.'s interpretation of what happens when we die was a refreshing change to the 'hell' or 'heaven' we constantly read about.
My favourite character had to be Marvin--mysterious and uniquely 'unworldly' I loved whenever he came onto the pages. But ALL the characters were well formed, rounded, with secrets of their own which I'm sure will be revealed as the series continues.
But most of all, I loved how 'human' Liv was, how she made mistakes, and how she tried to fix them. She was so real to life, but then again, not, and I'm looking forward to finding out more about her abilities as a conduit, because her red shield is amazing, and I want one!
I cannot wait to continue reading the rest of the series and reconnect with the cast of rich and intriguing characters that C.C. has introduced us to.
I received an e-ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*
This book was one of the hidden gems I had the luck to read in 2017! A New Adult book about life and death, choices and college life! When Jane dies and discovers that the afterlife is not so fun and angel wings, she grasps the chance to be reincarnated...and work for the Numeri named Marv.
She is now 18 years old, a freshman and also she begins falling for the sexy David. And while she has a competitor for the job, Asher, Jane (now Liv) discovers that there are far worse consequences than she ever imagined.
I liked the book, it was a mix of humor and too much emotion. Liv is a strong character who knows some things and tries to escape others. And while she tries to hide her secrets as a Conduit, she manages to bring along her own problems, insecurities and fears.
While the last part of the book was heart-breaking and the ending felt a lot like a cliff-hanger, I really want to see what will happen to Asher. Because he knows more than he shows and I'm pretty sure he loves Liv.
If you haven't read it... READ IT! Fantastic story and starts off straight into the good stuff. No reading 2 to 5 chapters waiting for it to get good. the characters are wonderful and so real. this book had me handing on every word, excited to see what was in the next page. One of my new favorite books!
Conduit is a fun, well-paced ride of story, sexy and touching in turns with enough sexual tension to keep you wanting more. It's a unique supernatural premise with lots of action and memorable characters. Can't wait for book two. Pick this one up, you won't be sorry!
This is not my usual genre, but I read this book at a friend’s recommendation. I had a little difficulty suspending disbelief at the beginning, but soon found myself getting caught up in the fast-paced story. I eagerly await the next volume!
Wow. I thought I’d love this book because of the concept alone. Conduits? Somebody that dies and then lives as somebody else? Yes please. What amazed me, and kept me reading until I ran out of pages, was Liv's voice and the depth of her world. This writer puts you in the uncensored mind of her characters. I’ll never be a reincarnated, supernatural, female-college-freshman-hero learning how big the world really is. But now I know exactly how it would feel. Like the summary says, there’s wit, and spirit, and romance. I love all that. But there’s truth of being. Is that overboard? I don't think so, because I feel connected with Liv. Just wish I could have read this sooner. Speaking of which… when is Book 2 being released?
