He has been training for a long time, five years now. And finally the day of the test has arrived and he will not be among those to be tested. He couldn't fathom what happened. He tried to call his director's attention, but he was not around. He went to his teacher who said that it was the director that choses the names. So why was he not chosen, he wondered. Then he decided to wait till evening when his director will be around and ask the questions bothering him.
Towards the evening, he went outside the enclosure. He couldn't face his mates, some passed the test while others were asked to repeat tomorrow.
Some of those asked to repeat tomorrow were crying wishing they had passed at first test, but then they were sure of being sent to the academy. And from there the good life, all they have ever wanted. Because graduates of this institute were needed in almost any field and they are highly paid. But for him, he has no chance at it this year or ever. He doesn't even know when and if he is going. He doubted it really because he was the only one out of the 86 students who didn't get called to take the test. Strange as it sounds, its true, the only one. There has to be an explanation.
At last he saw the director emerge from his room, looking spent. He went closer and stood outside waiting, he seemed to be talking with someone inside the room that he couldn't really see. He waited for him. He laughed and talked more. He waited, he's been waiting for 4 hours since, surely he can wait for a few more minutes. The man saw him and motioned for him to come closer, he did. And he asked him "what's the matter?"
He told him about not being chosen to take the test. He looked at him and shouted, "get out of here, you good for nothing fellow". The man was shocked, why did the director speak to him like this. It has never happened before. He motioned to the person inside, "come dear, let's go". The person came out and he saw her.
