Malicious Melody
It’s not all men, but it’s always a man.
Jane, a survivor of unspeakable childhood horrors, and Willow, a runaway fleeing the ghosts of her past, meet in the most unlikely of places: a warehouse where women are kept like livestock, sold like commodities, and broken like toys. Against all odds, they forge a bond that becomes their lifeline—a love so fierce it defies the darkness around them.
When they’re torn apart, Jane and Willow are forced into a world that sees them as nothing more than prey.
Jane carves a path through the powerful and wealthy, leaving a trail of fallen bodies in her wake as she hunts the predators who had taken everything from her.
Malicious Melody is a brutal, unflinching sapphic romance about two women who refuse to be victims. This is not a story about being saved. This is a story about saving yourself—even if it means becoming the monster they always said you were.

Check the trigger warnings before diving in!!!! This is an exceptionally dark read featuring themes including child sexual abuse, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other heavy content. Jane completely stole the show for me with her beautifully unhinged nature and relentless, blood-soaked determination. Her fierce devotion to rescuing Willow was both haunting and unforgettable, and the bond they shared became the emotional heart of the story. They didn’t just love each other, they saved each other, becoming each other’s lifeline, which made even their brief separation feel devastating. While the timeline occasionally became confusing due to frequent time jumps, the raw emotion and intensity never let up. If you’re looking for a brutally dark, emotionally charged sapphic romance, this one delivers.

ARC review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Malicious Melody is one of those books that leaves a permanent mark. It’s not an easy read, nor is it meant to be. Instead, it’s a raw, emotionally charged story about survival, found family, and reclaiming power after unimaginable trauma.
From the very first page, the story plunges you into a nightmare. Jane and Willow meet under horrific circumstances, trapped in a world where women are treated as commodities rather than human beings. Their bond becomes the emotional heartbeat of the novel a reminder that even in the darkest places, hope can still exist.
Jane is an unforgettable protagonist. She transforms her pain into relentless determination. Watching her refuse to remain a victim and instead become the hunter is both heartbreaking and deeply satisfying. Every step she takes feels fueled by grief, rage, and an unwavering desire to protect others from suffering the same fate.
Willow provides the perfect emotional counterbalance. Their relationship is built on trust, understanding, and unconditional loyalty rather than instant romance, making every moment between them feel genuine and earned. Their connection becomes the light cutting through an otherwise haunting story.
What impressed me most was how the book balances its darker themes with emotional depth. It doesn’t glorify violence or trauma instead, it explores the devastating ripple effects while highlighting the resilience of its characters. Jane’s pursuit of the men who profited from suffering isn’t portrayed as simple revenge, but as part of a much larger fight to reclaim her voice and agency.
The suspense never lets up, and the emotional stakes remain incredibly high from beginning to end. Every confrontation feels earned, and every victory comes at a cost, making the journey all the more impactful.

I received an ARC of this book. Here is my honest review:
Check the trigger warnings page, because this book is DARK!
There are references to child sexual assault, sexual assault, human trafficking, amongst other triggers.
I loved Jane’s character, how she was always a little unhinged. I loved her murderous vengeance, and I loved how she would have done anything to rescue Willow.
I love how the two of them saved each other. They were each other’s emotional support person. It was devastating when they were separated, even if it was only briefly.
At times I found the pacing was a little bit hard to follow, because there were time jumps, and sometimes it was a little confusing.
If you want a really dark sapphic romance, this is for you.

This is the first dark romance that I’ve read with a lesbian couple as the main characters, so that alone scored it major points for me.
Willow and Jane both have extremely abusive and traumatic pasts. They’ve both been through more than you could ever imagine during their childhoods and then it just goes from bad to worse as they end up in a human trafficking ring. But through all of the pain and trauma, they find comfort in each other in the warehouse and fall in love.
I loved Willow and Jane as a couple. They both have so much trauma to work through and they help each other to heal. It has great mental health and trauma representation. I loved that they used the 54321 grounding technique when Jane is having a panic attack. That’s one of my favourites to use too.
I love how different they both are to each other but I think they complement each other well and Willow grounds Jane. Jane is my favourite. I love her quest for revenge and her home made methods to dispose of those who have harmed women.
This is definitely a dark, emotional, funny and spicy read. I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend to anyone looking for a dark lesbian romance, with spice, healing and revenge.
Overall, this was 4⭐️ for me.

Take the content warnings in this one seriously. This is standard Marla York fare: dark, unhinged, and lots of creative uses for sharp objects on the male anatomy. I am here for it.
Jane and Willow are trauma bonded. Escaping from the abuse of their respective families only to find themselves as commodities in a tr@ff!cking ring, they seek solace in each other, experiencing kindness and learning to trust for perhaps the first time.
These girls are put through the wringer. You can read the details of their meeting, untimely separation, and later their reunion in the story. You can also read about Jane’s dedicated, bloody work to avenge the wrongs done to both her and Willow. If this were a Mathematical equation it would probably look something like J+W x trauma (2) + sharp objects / heads + p€n!ses = a satisfying read..

This book broke my heart from the first page and healed me by the end. The story of Jane & Willow is one of agony, torture, heartbreak, loss and most importantly love. Though love isn't everything, in this story its the most important thing for both FMC's to get through the unfair cards they have been dealt.
Revenge and Feminine rage in this story will have you cheering for Jane while simultaneously wanting to do everything possible to make Willow feel secure and protected. These ladies will definitely leave a mark on you and you will wish you could have spared them the life they have had to endure.
I advise to read the trigger warnings as most of the book is pretty heavy on the mind and heart.

What Did I Just Walk Into?
Ms. York has done it again, because apparently she woke up and chose emotional damage with a side of revenge. Malicious Melody is dark, brutal, heavy, and absolutely impossible to put down. Jane, also known as Blue, and Willow, also known as Buttercup, are two women who have been through horrors no one should survive, and yet somehow they still find each other in the middle of all that darkness.
Here’s What Slapped:
The revenge. The bond between Jane and Willow. The way they care for each other when the world has done nothing but try to break them. This book does not tiptoe around trauma. It kicks the door open, flips the table, and asks why the monsters were ever allowed to feel safe in the first place. I devoured this book early, and yes, it put me through every emotion like I signed up for a trauma-themed roller coaster.
Also, can we talk about how Ms. Marla York writes women who are wounded but never weak? Jane and Willow are messy, scarred, angry, loving, dangerous, and still so human. That is what makes this book hit so hard. The darkness is ugly, but their connection gives it a pulse. I was rooting for them, worrying for them, and occasionally whispering, “Yes, make them pay,” like a totally normal and emotionally stable reader. This is one of those books that crawls under your skin and stays there.
What Could’ve Been Better:
Honestly, nothing for me. Just know this one is heavy. Check your triggers before diving in, because Ms. Marla York did not come here to hold anyone’s hand gently through the darkness.
Perfect for Readers Who Love:
Dark sapphic romance, revenge stories, survivor stories, brutal emotional reads, morally gray women, trauma bonds, protective love, and books where the predators finally learn they picked the wrong women.

This is a dark, brutal, emotionally heavy sapphic romance that doesn't shy away from the ugliness of its subject matter. Jane and Willow are brought together in horrific circumstances, but what begins in darkness becomes something incredibly powerful, a bond, a friendship, and a love that gives them both something worth fighting for.
What really stood out to me was that this isn't a story about a helpless woman waiting for someone else to rescue her. Jane and Willow are survivors, and their strength comes from within themselves. Their relationship becomes a source of courage rather than a simple rescue fantasy, and I thought that made the story particularly powerful.
Jane's journey is especially intense. Watching her turn her pain and anger into determination as she goes after the people who destroyed so much of her life makes for a difficult but compelling read. She's not presented as a perfect heroine, and that's part of what makes her so fascinating.
The connection between Jane and Willow is the heart of the story. Despite everything surrounding them, their bond manages to bring moments of humanity and tenderness into an otherwise incredibly dark world.
This definitely isn't a fluffy romance or an easy read. Malicious Melody deals with extremely dark themes and some difficult subject matter, so I'd strongly recommend checking the content warnings before picking it up.
But if you're looking for a dark sapphic romance filled with survival, revenge, resilience, complicated characters, and a love that refuses to be destroyed by the darkness around it, this one will absolutely leave an impression.
Raw. Dark. Emotional. Unforgiving. And impossible to forget. 🖤🎶

So good! Impossible to put down! Marla fit so much into this book - love, betrayal, vengeance, tension, suspense, 💀, and so much more.
There is Jane who has suffered through SA at the hands of her father, atrocities by her mother (it’s a clue so I can’t say) and a life not fit for a dog.
But through everything she perseveres. She is kind, helps those she can and never expects anything in return. It’s just an endless cycle of twisted evil and pain.
Enter Willow. I loved her from the beginning. Have you read a book where you are cheering for a character to have it suddenly ripped and shredded out of your reach. It ultimately ended in tears for me. I thought she had escaped. I should have realized this is a Marla York book. She takes your heart and twists it.
I will tell you the romance in this book was perfection. You just have to get through the horrors of life for Willow and Jane. Now with all Marla York books her idea of HEA has never been as finite as every other author.
Marla reaches into your soul and takes you on a depraved, wretched ride through the lives of two women. This is sad because there are young girls and women that this is still happening to, at this moment. That’s what I took away from this book.
This could be a true story. Look at Arlene Wiirnos and what set the wheels in motion for what she did - so many 💀 men. Read the content warnings… they are not for show. This is not a book for everyone… if you have suffered SA or rape, childhood trauma or similar experiences then take your time to read the TW to see if you can read this book.

4.5 Stars
Malicious Melody, written by Marla York, is a mixture of horror and dark romance. The book explores the harrowing journey of two survivors as they navigate the horrible trauma of abuse and captivity while discovering love and human connection.
The book centers around Jane and Willow. Jane’s life is defined by the cruelty of her parents, who treat her like a disposable object, which turns into betrayal when she ends up in a trafficking ring. Here, women are reduced to commodities and forced to endure psychological and physical degradation. Willow finds herself in the same network after trying to escape an abusive boyfriend. Willow and Jane form an immediate and very profound bond. This connection is not just romantic; it is also a lifeline that provides the emotional validation needed to endure the constant exploitation.
After a harrowing escape, Jane embraces a life of vigilante justice rather than reintegrating into society. She targets the men who have preyed upon women and children, using the same methods of violence used against her. The bond between Willow and Jane acts as a moral anchor, and together they create a home where they can finally stop surviving and being to exist.
I enjoyed the raw and gritty exploration of survival, vengeance, and the enduring power of human connection. I love a great female vigilante who takes the law into her own hands and enacts horrific punishment! It makes my heart happy! LOL.

Malicious Melody was a very intense, beautiful, found family, survival story.
Why Jane and Willow survived..... I have nightmares of those types of things.
Jane had a horrible home life with parents who used and abused her. But instead of her mother protecting her, she sells her into a trafficking. ring. There... Jane meets Willow, who she learns was betrayed by her boyfriend and sold into the ring as well. Together, they find comfort in each other and eventually fall in love. But once their relationship is learned of, they are torn apart and sold off to be property. Jane turns herself into a weapon and making her way through the powerful and wealthy, seeking revenge and vengeance for what was done to her and Willow. She never stops looking for her. This story will shatter you and make you whole again several times over. The horrors of human trafficking captivity is scary because you know somewhere out there in the real world, there is someone probably trying to survive that same exact situation and it breaks my heart. Willow and Janee's story gives you a very small peek into the horrors of that world and trust me, some of the things will stick with me for a while. Though, I did enjoy the ways in which Jane seemed her vengeance. I ate this one up and read the while thing in one sitting because you will not be able to tear yourself away from this story!

I’ll start by saying that this is a beautiful story about healing, found family, true love, and finding a place to call home.
The darker reader in me wanted a bolder approach—one that showed more of the harsh reality of life within a human trafficking ring. However, I understand that the author chose a more "tell rather than show" style, which makes the story more accessible and less overwhelming for a wider range of readers.
Personally, I think the story would have had an even greater emotional impact if it had gone a little darker, but it is still a powerful and moving read. At its core, it carries an important message: there is light at the end of the tunnel, and with hope, resilience, and support, it is possible to overcome even the darkest circumstances.
What Willow and Jane endure is horrific, but watching them find healing, love, and a sense of belonging makes their journey worthwhile. If the road ultimately leads to a well-deserved HEA, then every hard-fought step feels meaningful.

👀 Well…. I learned what a grapefruit spoon is today.
Did I read this in one sitting? Yep sure did.
Let’s talk about it.
The pros:
I absolutely loved the raw and gritty yet beautiful relationship between Willow and Jane. The way they found such a pure love in those conditions is the very definition of always and forever. The story was very well written and I loved seeing some people get their just desserts so to speak. The feminine rage in this is so real I could feel it in my very bones.
The cons:
Some of the time jumps made sense while others made it feel a little rushed. There were also some spots overall I feel like could have been expanded on. I was not ready for this book to end and would have loved to see a bit more detail in some places.
Overall:
While it is definitely not the darkest book I’ve ever read, this does definitely contain some themes some may find triggering. So as always if you do have triggers please check the warnings before diving in!

This book comes with some very heavy trigger warnings, so please check those before jumping in. But it's one to really get you in the feels, and make you realize how much this may actually be happening while we just go about our days...The world is filled with evil people.
Lemme just say that this isn't just a story about trauma, it's about sooo much more!!! Survival, revenge, healing, and finding love in the darkest places imaginable. What Jane "Blue" and Willow "Buttercup" endure is freaking heartbreaking, and there were moments that tore my heart up.. But watching these two refuse to remain victims and fight for themselves had me just hoping they would get their HEA.
This is just such a beautiful, brutal, and raw sapphic romance that you won't be able to look away from.

I received this as an ARC from the author.
PLEASE check the trigger warnings before you enter this world.
I am going to very honest with saying that this book was a little difficult for me to get through. Don't get me wrong I love Marla York's unhinged stories, but something about this book just didn't do it for me. I think it was the constant back and forth with what they feel for each other. It was a little much for me. Their overall story was good though.
Jane and Willow have definitely been through H*LL (won't go into much detail due to the triggers for this book) and their story takes you on a ride that is for sure. Jane is a pure bada*s and I did like how she would not stop for anything until the monster was taken care of. Willow finally got her life going and found her purpose and once their story was reconnected she was able to help Jane get to somewhat of a normal life as well.
Thank you!
Cannot wait to see what else comes from Marla York.

As a huge fan of Marla’s work, I wasn’t sure if anything could top how much I loved Savage Keepsakes, & my husband Billy.
But having two incredible badass and incredible women, who were beat down and broken, find each other and finally heal? This might be a top contender.
Jane, tough as nails, willing to do whatever it takes for the world and for HER world Willow.
Willow, sweet angel girl, who just wants to know what it means to be loved, and TRULY loved.
These women find each other in the most horrid of places and in the pits of despair, build a relationship to stand the tests of time.
Jane, though, she has plans that make things tricky. She needs to, get aHEAD of somethings, if you will.
I loved this book, I love how it healed things in parts of my soul, and I loved being able to be part of the BETA and ARC teams. Thank you, and 5⭐️

Please cheak TW because the only light this story has really seen is through the windows blinds during the break of the raging storms
So first off, I don't think I would have ever known there was a grapefruit spoon nor would have ever Googled it to see what it was, before this book. Now I'm not sure I will ever use one!
The guts if this book is hard, dark and makes you ravenous to deliver the fate deserved to those that ever put a hand, thought or ill will towards Jane and Willow. There were parts that seemed a little redundant to me, but broken things need coaxing, love and patience to even have a semblance of being whole again.
Wrongs can be made by anyone but vigilante justice may be delivered in unimaginable ways but someone you would never suspect capable.
Thank you Marla for providing me this copy and this is my honest opinion.

FF, Trauma bonded through trafficking. HEA
Dark, disturbing, and impossible to put down. Every chapter pulled me deeper into the madness, and I loved every twisted second of it.
The chemistry is obsessive, the tension is palpable, and the horror elements blend perfectly with the romance. This is the kind of book that makes you question your sanity for rooting so hard for morally bankrupt characters—but here we are.
As always, read the trigger warnings before diving in. This is not a sweet romance, and it doesn't pretend to be. It's brutal, bloody, psychologically intense, and exactly what dark romance and horror lovers crave.
If you're looking for a story filled with obsession, revenge, morally gray characters, and enough twists to keep you hooked until the very last page,

I started and I finished in one sitting, it’s one of those stories that just hits you. You get a real sense of ‘this happens’ more than we are aware of, what Jane does is both sweet and deadly, for me I totally was there for her justice served on a silver platter 😬
𝒯𝒾𝓂𝑒 𝒾𝓈 𝒶𝑔𝒶𝒾𝓃𝓈𝓉 𝓂𝑒, 𝒶𝓁𝑜𝓃𝑔 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓂𝒶𝓃𝓎 𝑜𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔𝓈.
I got an intense feeling Marla wrote this with so many emotions going on in her head, that she just had to get it down on paper (or computer 😉). There is so much angst, anger and loss; loss of their childhood, loss of their sanity, loss of their freedom. Their fight to be together was beautiful in itself, the path to get there was a challenging one to say the least. Do read the trigger warnings, as it may affect you deeply.

Willow, you feel like home, a place I’ve never been, and now it’s like I never left. That’s how I know it’s love.
This book had me sobbing and wanting to get revenge on so many background characters. Following our two FMCs was heartbreaking. Especially Jane.
I felt every ounce of heartbreak on these pages. And truthfully if I had a physical copy those same pages would be tear stained. But instead my kindle just witnessed my ugly sobs.
Both characters felt complex…I did wish we had a little more time with them. But I also really enjoyed the pacing of the book. It felt different than anything I’ve read in this realm before. Definitely a check your triggers and grab your tissues kind of read. 😭😭
Thank you again to the author for this opportunity ♥️

This is a heavy, unflinching story about two trafficked women and what survival looks like after the worst has already happened to you. York does not soften the early brutality, and the emotional weight carries through most of the book. What stood out is how the two leads diverge after their shared trauma. Their bond remains central, but it is portrayed more as an irreversible imprint than a traditional romance, something that shapes them long after their circumstances change rather than something that neatly heals them. Surprisingly, the book gradually moves toward a more hopeful tone than I expected from this author. It does not erase what happened or pretend recovery is simple, but it does allow space for something like forward motion, even if it is imperfect and hard-won.

Definitely read your trigger warnings!
Jane and Willow turn their pain, abuse and bad childhoods into their own type of survival.
And they even find their version of happiness.
Jane will protect Willow at all costs. Anything to make her happy.
They accept each other for exactly who they are. They know and understand each others pain and trauma.
I'm not sure I could handle all the things these ladies went through.
I went through all the emotions with and for these two.
Their stories caught me from the very first page and left me wanting more.
I received an advance review copy at no cost and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This one hit hard.
It’s dark, emotional, and full of revenge, and from the very first chapter I was completely hooked. Marla York has a way of pulling you into her characters’ pain and making you feel every moment alongside them.
I’ll be honest, books with two FMCs aren’t usually what I reach for, but Jane and Willow proved that sometimes stepping outside your comfort zone is absolutely worth it. Their story is messy, heartbreaking, and beautifully raw. Two women trying to survive, carrying so much trauma, and finding a connection through all the wreckage.
This wasn’t an easy read emotionally, but it was a powerful one.

Check your triggers! This book is pretty dark. With that being said, this book started off very strong for me. I was tossed into Jane & Willow’s trauma. It really makes you feel for them and everything they went through. Jane became such a bad a$$ and handled business. These girls trauma bonded and I loved it, but I think what made me go from a 4 to 3 star was nearing the end of the book it just felt like it was dragging a bit. Almost too much s3x (I know I know who am I to say this because I love a good spicy book). Also too many “I’m sorrys” and “I love yous” nearing the end as well. I absolutely enjoyed all the dark stuff though. Decent book.

✨️ARC REVIEW✨️
This is a short read but is FULL of emotion, trauma, revenge, healing and everything in between!
Willow and Jade's story is absolutely heartbreaking 💔 they have been surrounded with hurt, pain and trauma that will forever scar them. They find the beauty within one another and cling to this, and go on a journey of healing (and revenge)...which at times isn't always happy.
This story reminds me of a phoenix; being broken, and rising from the ashes, stronger then before.
This read does have some heavy content so please read your triggers and look after yourself!

Stars - ⭐️4/5
Spice - 🌶️3.5
This is one of those reads that will have you in a chokehold.
The abuse and trauma Jane and Willow suffered throughout their lives was almost beyond comprehension. Yet from that darkness emerged a bond so pure.
The love that Blue and Buttercup had for one another and shared was truly beautiful to witness.
Seeing both of their healing journey’s, personal growth, and the justice that was ultimately served showed that not everyone heals from trauma in the same way.

Do you wanna know how much I wanted to read this book? I signed up, remembered I was part of her arc team, and than signed up again…. 😅😅
Jane and Willow have moved into a space in my head. Do they plan to leave? 🤷🏽♀️ I, now, need a trophy! Jane was put through it by the hands of her mother, and limp d***, most likely very tiny, father. Does it faze her much? No, baby girl is still kindhearted and helps without expecting anything back. Now Willow, she was betrayed by a rat faced, he who will never be mentioned.
(That’s all imma say)

If you’ve ever read a book by Marla York before you know that you’re in for one hell of a dark ride!
This is a story about Survival! It’s is also a very real story of human trafficking that sadly affects so many women and children throughout the world.
This story centre’s around Jane and Willow, who were both forced into human trafficking ring and forced to do horrible and horrific things to survive.
Jane is the vigilante of the 2 FMC. She makes it her mission to make sure men ( those who hurt women/children) pay for their terrible crimes. Her vengeance isn’t just for herself but for Willow whom she loves dearly. These 2 women forge a deep relationship and accept each other for who they are, trauma and all.

Malicious Melody by Marla York took me through pure heartbreak before slowly piecing everything back together. I was pulled into Jane and Willow's journey from the start.
Meeting in the worst possible way, their connection becomes a true lifeline. Watching them save each other made every hard moment worth it, and the pacing was perfect for a dark, spicy revenge story.
Please check trigger warnings before reading.Highly recommend if you want a dark sapphic romance focused on survival, healing, and finding love.
