Kai is tired of living his whole life in survival mode. He’s spent the last eight years on and off the streets of Toronto, and he has the scars to prove it. Kai and his brothers have only made it through by sticking together and doing what they need to survive.
Nolan Laurent was supposed to be a mark–a means to an end. But when Kai turns around to find Nolan right there in his personal space, he has a hard time remembering that Nolan isn’t his to keep. The problem is, Nolan is everything Kai has ever wanted. Will Nolan still want him when he finds out all of the things Kai’s done in his past?
**This book is an M/M romance featuring a Daddy/boy relationship with mature content. Suitable for ages 18+. A list of trigger warnings is available on the author's website.**
Definitely sad this didn't quite land for me, as it seemed like it had all of the elements I usually love. I'm going to get what didn't quite work for me out of the way, and then end this off on some positives on why this might work for others.
At it's core..Nolan and Kai just didn't resonate with me. From the jump, I didn't find either of them likable. Nolan just came off very holier than thou, while Kai seemed almost airheaded and not in an endearing way. I stop reading a couple times but would pick it back up again, hoping that my opinions of them would evolve but it just never did. Secondly, there are just too many side characters. Almost to the point where it is hard to believe this is a debut novel; if someone said this was a spin off I would of believe them. Two pages in...you've only met one half of our main couple and you're already have four side characters and their backstory in your face. And that's not even half the supporting cast. To be clear though, none of the side characters were bad per say...their presence was just really overwhelming at times, if not unnecessary during certain parts. There were at least 3 or so side characters whose introduction could've came in later books (in my opinion). To add to that, every character we are introduced to felt as their presence was being overly explained/justified. And I'm not usually the type of reader to add to the whole "showing vs. telling" discourse; but this is a case where I felt that I was consistently being told how each character is suppose to be perceived rather than getting to come to those conclusions myself through witnessing their actions / role in the overall story. Lastly, the conflict felt a bit melodramatic. I can't really elaborate without spoilers. But little about the conflict really had me all that invested.
Now that's all out in the open. Some positives! One of the upsides to having a a large cast is diversity. In dynamics, personality types, gender, sexuality, etc. And you get a good range of that in this book. Which opens the door for some characters to resonate with people even if the book overall didn't quite land. For me that character was Liam. I was infatuated with him, genuinely the most interesting character in my opinion. He stole every scene he was in. He's a mean boy, bit of an asshole and a total brat...but oh so entertaining; I'm excited to see what Noelle does with his character. A.k.a I really hope he get's his own book. Dynamics were also pretty well demonstrated; as someone who is involved in the kink community, nothing stood out at glaring wrong or inappropriate. The overall pacing, and plot progression was also pretty good from what I completed. I think for readers who better connect with the characters than I did will find this to be a very enjoyable and easy read.
Big thank you to Noelle for the ARC, while this didn't quite land for me, I will still be cheering on your release.
This book was amazing. It probably took me an embarrassing amount of hours just staring at my screen trying to figure out how to put into words how much I loved this book.
It was stunning. You cannot jump into a book with a Daddy like Nolan and not absolutely devour it. I was so invested that I stayed up until 5:30 AM finishing it because there was no way I was going to sleep without knowing how it ended. And somehow, even after finishing it, I was still devastated it was over.
Nolan… the man that you are, baby.
I loved the representation in this book because there was truly a little bit of everything. Different upbringings, different class backgrounds, different kinks, different experiences, every character brought something unique to the story. You don’t often get such a diverse cast where every character feels important and fully developed, but this book did it flawlessly. All of these different worlds overlapped in a way that never diminished their individuality. Instead, it strengthened the story and highlighted how powerful support and acceptance can be.
What really stood out to me was the way Nolan handled Kai’s pain. He never tried to erase what Kai had been through or “fix” him. He acknowledged it. He sat with it. He told Kai they could heal together, grow together, and become something together. That meant so much to me because so many books fall into this “fix fix fix” mentality, while this one focused on growth, communication, learning, and being someone your partner can lean on. It felt realistic, healthy, and honestly beautiful.
And Nolan’s love for Kai? Obsessed. The way he cherished him while still respecting him as his own person was everything. If Nolan showed up in my life today, honey, I’m sold. That man is a god among men. I adored him, and I will absolutely go to war for that fictional man because he deserves it.
And then there’s our sweet Kai.
Kai is such a beautifully written character because underneath everything he’s been through, he still wants to do good. He wants to become better. He wants to pour goodness into the world despite coming from a life that tried to tear him apart. There is something so powerful about a character who has every reason to give up but instead chooses kindness, growth, and love.
What I appreciated most was that Kai wasn’t perfect. Nobody in this book was perfect. Every single character had flaws, struggles, trauma, and things they needed to overcome. Watching Kai slowly learn how to communicate, accept love, and realize he deserved more than survival was incredible. Seeing him grow into this bubbly, charismatic, loving person who just wanted to love and be loved in return made me emotional. He felt so genuine, and I loved every second of his journey.
Kai is my sweet angel baby and he can truly do no wrong.
And the side characters? Amazing. Everything was layered together so naturally that it felt like you truly knew these people without the story spending too much time trying to force it. I loved Katie becoming one of Kai’s best friends without ever making him uncomfortable. Everyone had their own lifestyles, kinks, boundaries, and personalities, and the acceptance between all of them was so refreshing.
One of my favorite things was watching Kai build a life and a found family of his own. Seeing him connect with people outside of the small circle he trusted, especially as someone who struggled so deeply with trust and self-worth, was incredibly moving. The book portrayed so beautifully how a healthy, supportive relationship can help someone slowly reconnect with the world around them.
This is easily one of my top five reads of the year. It was emotional, beautiful, healing, spicy, and so full of heart. If this book is any indication of what’s to come from this author, then it’s only going to get better from here. At this point, I’m a lifelong instant-buy reader because they can truly do no wrong in my eyes.
I enjoyed reading Kai and Nolan's story. The past 8 years haven't been great for Kai, but he meets Nolan on a night out and they hit it off instantly. I enjoyed their connection. Kai's lived experiences have made him slow to trust but his self worth is also low. These things make him doubt himself and almost self sabotage great things. Nolan is 10 years older, more established and knows what he wants. I felt like he was the best partner to help Kai gain self confidence and ask for what he wants. I enjoyed their dynamic and how well that worked for them. I really enjoyed all of the side characters we got to meet in this story and I'm excited to see who will get their own book. I enjoyed the writing and how the story flowed, but I still feel like Kai meeting Nolan's family should have been in the book. I still enjoyed the book without that scene and I'm excited to see where this series goes.

Kai De Silva is a deeply guarded street survivor who spent eight long, brutal years homeless in Toronto. Alongside his closest friend Liam and a fierce found family of other street brothers, they have fought as a tight-knit unit just to survive the harsh realities of the streets. When he crosses paths with Nolan Laurent, a powerful, wealthy man, his survival-mode world is completely turned upside down. Nolan is an ultra-protective provider who uses a gentle caretaking dynamic to show Kai that he doesn't have to carry his burdens alone anymore. Wanting to tend to Kai’s every need as a "Daddy," Nolan creates a secure sanctuary to spoil him. However, Nolan demands absolute, total honesty. Terrified that his dark past will lead to rejection, Kai's instinct to hide his history directly collides with Nolan's strict hard limit.
This book is an exceptional, adorable hurt-and-comfort romance featuring an incredible found family! It left me feeling so warm, satisfied, and deeply moved. The romantic dynamic between Kai and Nolan is beautiful. Nolan handles Kai’s damaged layers with such overwhelming gentleness. My absolute favourite part is how Nolan dotes on him once he’s off the streets. I completely adored Kai's simple need to carry a few pieces of LEGO in his pockets as a grounding tool when his anxiety spikes. It was so cute and heartbreaking at the same time! The way Nolan leans into this—setting up LEGO marathons paired with superhero movies and intense cuddles—shows how completely he accepts Kai's vulnerabilities. The story features a light caretaking kink with some age-play dynamics, handled beautifully as a form of deep emotional care and protection rather than just being focused on intimacy. The chemistry is established early on with a fast-paced instant attraction, lots of praise, and wonderful power dynamics. However, they definitely stumble along the way. The plot reaches a massive turning point when Nolan believes Kai has lied to him, breaching his absolute strict boundary on honesty. The heavy third-act separation was so painful to read and absolutely brought tears to my eyes—especially the scene where Nolan shuts the door on Kai, which was a real tear-jerker! But it was a necessary fire to test their bond. It forced Kai to stop wearing a mask, learn to heal for himself, and realize he is worthy of a stable life. It also forced Nolan to step back and realize Kai's deceit was a survival mechanism, teaching him to leave room for Kai’s fragile emotional pacing. When they finally reunite, their reconnection is built on total transparency and is just so wonderful, giving you a deeply heart-melting, soul-soothing finish!
The writing style is wonderful, perfectly balancing the heavy emotional baggage with the entertaining antics of the broader "Twisted Boys" friend group. The standout banter and protective nature of Nolan’s wealthy circle and Kai's street brothers inject great comedic relief. These men aren't afraid to cry or fiercely support each other, and I cannot wait for more of their stories! If you love a deeply lovable protagonist, protective caretaking, and a cozy, nurturing plot about what a person truly needs to heal, I highly, highly recommend this beautiful book.
❤️ Little Side Note: Although the story features multiple perspectives, the chapters aren't clearly labeled by POV. Highlighting each character's name at the start of their chapter would definitely make the transitions much smoother!
The Sweetheart by Noelle Reve is a deeply emotional M/M Daddy/boy romance that genuinely moved me.
Kai has spent years surviving on and off the streets of Toronto with his chosen brothers, doing whatever it takes to stay together.
When Nolan Laurent enters his life as an intended mark for one of their schemes, everything changes. What starts as a transaction quickly becomes something Kai never expected: real connection, safety, and the kind of care he’s never known.
Kai’s backstory is raw and unflinching. The book doesn’t shy away from the scars of homelessness, survival sex work, trauma, and the constant fight just to eat and protect his family. Watching him slowly lower his walls with Nolan and begin to believe he deserves softness and stability was heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time.
I loved that Kai isn’t stuck in endless self sabotage. Once he feels genuine safety, he leans into healing.
Nolan is everything you want in a Daddy character, patient, steady, protective, and willing to prove himself through consistent actions rather than just words. Their dynamic has a strong age gap, hurt/comfort, caregiving, and spicy Daddy/boy elements that feel natural to the story rather than tacked on. The tenderness between them balances the heavier themes beautifully, and the chemistry is intense from their very first real interaction.
The found family aspect with Kai’s brothers added warmth, humor, and depth, especially with Liam, who already has me excited for future books in the Twisted Boys series. 😉
The writing flows well, and the Toronto setting made me long to visit.
A few small things kept it from a full five stars for me. The large cast takes a little while to settle into, and the third act conflict felt a touch abrupt and convenient. I also would have loved a deeper conversation during the resolution to fully unpack some of the trust issues.
Still, these are my opinions in what is otherwise a very satisfying read.
If you enjoy emotional hurt/comfort romances with scarred but resilient boys, caring Daddies, chosen family, and real healing through love, The Sweetheart delivers. It’s spicy, tender, and left me rooting hard for Kai’s happy ending.
I’ll definitely be continuing with the series.
Highly recommended for fans of this trope done with heart and maturity. 💙
(Content note… This book includes past homelessness, survival trauma, and explicit kink content. Check trigger warnings before diving in.)
I really loved Kai and Nolan's connection. I appreciated that Nolan was patient in letting Kai learn to trust him, but also was super grateful that Kai didn't do a bunch of self-sabotaging. I would have found it more frustrating if Kai hadn't taken the love that was being offered to him.
It was nice seeing how they both grew together and watching their love unfold. The Daddy/boy dynamic between them was strong enough to keep me interested. I like the ways in which Nolan showed he was in charge (beyond simply in the bedroom) and that he had Kai's best interest at heart.
I won't lie it was beyond apparent from the start of the book that Liam was going to do something to mess up their dynamic. I would have appreciated that being a bit more subtle. But it was so obvious something would happen that I spent a good portion of the book just waiting for the "surprise" interference. To me, it wasn't necessary. It was such an odd and random blip in Nolan and Kai's relationship. It felt like suddenly your best friend appears in the house and does something without any prompting and your relationship explodes. (Trying not to offer spoilers)
It didn't bring Nolan and Kai closer than they were before or help them gain any major epiphanies. That scene and the ones that followed felt manufactured for the drama. It was sad how quickly Nolan went from loving Daddy to shutting Kai out. There should have been more conversation when they came back together about the impact of that sort of abrupt switch. To me it would have been Kai that developed trust issues to discover that his partner could so easily swing from love to not caring where you are or if you're safe the next day.
I know some people love a third act break. I'm not one of those people. And I would rather organic issues pop up and be resolved rather than manufactured drama that generates way more intensity than the action called for, is resolved incompletely, and does nothing for the love story overall.
But outside of that, really loved the book and story. Would love to see Kai's brothers finding love themselves! I will be reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this book! It gives you all the fuzzy feelings, the right amount of hurt, the understanding of why some people do what they do and what they need to heal.
This book packs in a lot of emotion fairly quickly without it feeling forced or being overwhelming. Even at the 30-50% mark, it feels like a whole book’s worth of feelings but is highly appreciated because we get the whole scope of the situation, especially from Kai’s side. His story breaks your heart.
This doesn’t shy away from what homelessness does to kids. What they have to go through and who they have to become to survive. One’s morality, their sense of right and wrong changes to handle what they’re doing. Kai’s never really changed which I loved. He struggled and turned to numbness to bare with it his life. He did what he had to do while also taking care of others he cares about.
I loved that realization that love doesn’t always hit you in the chest. Sometimes it just settles inside you like something you always knew was there. Something comfortable. It was a part of you all along, just waiting to be shown. It was a really lovely viewpoint and honestly, refreshing. Some things that are strong are subdued.
Kai is a great character and he matches so well with Nolan. Great couple! They definitely are sweethearts! For me, Katie is like really good frosting. She doesn’t have to be there, it will still work without her, but dammit she makes it just so much greater! She’s like sunshine compressed with innocence and kindness. Liam is the opposite, but you understand why. I hope he gets his own HEA. It’s a really good read and I’m already anticipating what will follow!
Tropes: -age gap -found family -daddy/boy, lite dom/sub -trauma; hurt/comfort; PTSD -lingerie 🌶️🌶️🌶️
“He wanted to know about those tears, but more than that, he wanted to be the one that wiped them away, who held him close and offered him comfort.”
OH how i loved this book!! i believe this is the authors debut novel and i am shocked! it’s so good. the perfect balance of ‘let’s make you cry’, ‘let’s make you giggle’, and ‘let’s make you all hot and bothered’ hehehe
The Sweetheart is about Nolan and Kai, who are complete opposites but somehow perfect for each other.
sweet Kai is broken boy who was given the short end of the stick in life when he was kicked out of his grandma’s house at a young age due to his uncle being a straight up asshole. when he’s forced to live on the streets, he meets Liam, who i have a like/hate relationship with. you’ll see why when you read it 🫠 ANYWAYS. Kai goes to a gay bar one night, expecting to find a sucker to make money off of - something he and Liam do often in order to make ends meet. Kai was expecting to see Nolan there, but he had no idea he’d soon be calling him Daddy 🤭
Nolan is.. well.. A STRAIGHT UP DADDY. like, he takes such good care of Kai, there were some parts where i just felt so warm and fuzzy inside because i loved their dynamic so much. it wasn’t just about sex; this was their life.
i really loved how the author touched on homelessness and how the MC’s work to help those in need. when Kai finally tells Nolan the things he’s had to do to survive, there’s no judgment, which was comforting too.
The Sweetheart was def a 5 star for me and im excited to see what Noelle Reve comes up with next!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
some tidbits: 💗 hurt/comfort 💗 great side characters (IM LOOKIN AT YOU KATIE!! 🥰) 💗 Daddy x boy 💗 found family 💗 Lego!! (and the relatable part where Kai questions how expensive they are. like, so valid.) 💗 age gap 💗 burnin hot SPICE 🥵
I received an advanced copy of this book, and here is my honest review.
Quick things to know before reading: BDSM Tropes: Little/Daddy POV: Dual 3rd person POV
My Review: First, I should mention that I am quite a picky reader, so these views are very much my own. While this wasn't a "bad" read, several points hindered my overall enjoyment of the story. When choosing to write about the Little dynamic, I personally feel it needs to be more clearly established. Nowadays, terms like "Daddy/Boy" are often used loosely, which can lead to confusion if the boundaries aren't well-defined.
Since this subject can touch on sensitive themes, execution is key. In this case, the relationship felt like it lacked structure, discipline, and depth. To me, the "Daddy" character came across as somewhat toxic. A "Little" needs support and guidance, which was missing here. The relationship progresses very quickly, which likely explains this lack of foundation. Regarding the plot, I felt it lacked consistency.
At times, the characters' behaviors didn't quite make sense or went unexplained. It’s difficult to stay immersed when characters feel reactive rather than fully fleshed out. The secondary characters suffer from the same issue; they are central to the plot but lack distinct personalities or backstories. It feels as though they were written with the assumption that the reader already knows them.
While the story follows familiar tropes, the potential is definitely there. Despite my critiques, I want to encourage the author—there is a real spark in the writing. I’m sure many readers will enjoy this work, and I wish the author nothing but the best for their future projects.
Kai and Nolan’s story is not an easy one, and I really appreciated that this book never shied away from the realities of poverty, homelessness, and what survival can look like for vulnerable kids. Seeing the choices Kai had to make as a kid on the streets honestly hurt at times, because you can feel how deeply those experiences shaped who he became. But alongside all that pain, there’s also this strong sense of found family and community woven throughout the story that made it feel hopeful too.
While we don’t get as much of Nolan’s background, it’s clear from the start how different his upbringing was compared to Kai’s. Their relationship develops quickly, but their dynamic feels almost immediate, especially with the way Nolan naturally steps into the “Daddy” role for Kai. And it’s not just in the bedroom either, it carries into their everyday life and emotional connection as well, which made their bond feel very consuming and intimate.
The side characters were just as intriguing. I loved Nolan’s family, especially Katie and her relationship dynamic, and Kai’s found family with Liam, Jason, and the others made the world feel really alive. I would genuinely love to see more of their stories in future books.
This does have a third-act breakup, and while I understood Nolan enforcing a previously established boundary, the way it happened felt especially harsh considering Kai’s past and the trust involved in a Daddy/boy dynamic. Their separation and longing for each other definitely hit emotionally, but I did wish there had been a deeper conversation once they reunited, especially given how much damage that kind of loss could cause within that dynamic.
Overall though, I truly enjoyed Kai and Nolan’s story. Noelle’s writing pulled me in quickly, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this series goes next.
I wasn’t fully convinced at first that this book was going to be for me, but I kept reading and I’m so glad I did. This story ended up surprising me in the best way possible. It became far more emotional than I expected, and as someone who does not cry easily while reading, there were several moments that genuinely broke my heart. Kai completely stole the show for me. Sweet baby Kai had been through so much, and the way he expressed himself and tried to navigate everything happening around him was incredibly touching. Knowing that situations like his are a reality for some people made parts of this story even harder to read emotionally.
The relationship between Kai and Nolan developed quickly, and while I enjoyed their connection overall, I really struggled with the third-act breakup. I understood Nolan’s boundaries and why they mattered to him, but I hated the way he handled the situation. It felt unnecessarily cruel, especially considering everything Kai had already been through. Liam’s involvement only made me more frustrated. I really wish there had been more discussion afterward about how deeply Nolan’s actions hurt Kai, because while they both made mistakes, Kai deserved far more understanding and compassion in those moments.
Despite my frustrations with certain characters — cough Liam and Chris cough — I truly enjoyed most of the cast and appreciated how the heavier topics in this book were handled. The emotional moments felt meaningful rather than forced, and by the end I was completely invested in these characters. Overall, I’m really glad I didn’t let my initial hesitation stop me from reading this story, because it ended up being emotional, heartfelt, and unexpectedly impactful.
First, I was a little hesitant when I signed up for this ARC, but I was so intrigued by the blurb and I'm so glad I gave it a shot. I have mixed feelings, in general about the Daddy/boy kink normally around the age gap and I was happy to see that both the gap (10 years) and the ages (Nolan's 34 to Kai's 24) were not at all off putting as other similar stories I've read in the past. Kai's living a hard life, he and his pal Liam were out one night with Nolan as a mark for Kai to steal from/take advantage of, but he backed out. Nolan is established and knows what he wants and he wants Kai - as a Daddy he has all the caretaker vibes that I LOVE to read. The more I got into the book, the more invested I got and Noelle did an amazing job putting "all the feels" out there for us to feel and yes, I even cried at some parts. I loved the care that Nolan showed to Kai - let him move at his own pace, heal at his own pace and didn't try to "fix" it all for him. Did he use his influence and wealth to help - 100% but for the most part he just supported Kai as he healed himself. There were ALOT of secondary characters - at the beginning it was hard to keep track of everyone, but the found family aspect of this story really stood out for me and I'm excited to see MORE in this world as everyone gets their HEA stories. The only other real "negative" for me was that it was so obvious that there was going to be a "thing" that was coming to cause a second act break up and it was just telegraphed that I spent way too long waiting and trying to guess the "what" (the who was obvious) and that kinda took me out of the story a few too many times for my liking. Also, this is written in third person - which I don't mind, but I know is a deal breaker for some.
I wasn’t convinced initially that this book was for me, but I continued reading and hoped for the best. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! It was very emotional for me at times. I’m a crybaby and cry for everything, but I was really touched by the situations in the book, and the way the characters, specifically baby Kai, expressed themselves. Sweet Angel Kai had a tough few years and experienced things I hate to think are peoples reality. There was not a lot of background on Nolan, but I can assume he lived a much different, privileged life. Their relationship developed quickly, and unfortunately we do see a third act breakup. I hate hate hate the way Nolan handled the situation and feel even more strongly about Liam’s involvement. I understand Nolan’s boundaries and the importance of sticking to them, but I think the way he did what he did was very cruel. Obviously they have to work their stuff out, though I wish they had had more of a discussion, for Kai’s benefit, about how Nolan’s actions hurt Kai. I understand they were both at fault, but angel baby Kai deserves the world, and deserved more understanding, in my opinion! Most of the characters were great, cough Liam and Chris cough. There are some heavy topics throughout this book, but I feel like it was handled well. Overall, I am so glad I didn’t let my initial feelings deter me from reading this great story!
So, a little bit into this read I almost became disinterested. However, I continued reading and it became so much better! This is my first read from this author but I world read more from them.
I was really touched by the situations and how emotional it all became. Kai had been through so much, tough experiences. The way he handled himself was well done. Kai's whole background was probably what I fund most interesting.
The relationship between Kai and Nolan developed quickly. The chemistry is incredible. Kai and Nolan are from different worlds and Kai is terrified that if Nolan finds out what he's done, Nolan will turn away from him. The trouble is Nolan's hard limit is trust. There is a third act break up. It was apparent from the start of the book that Liam was going to do something to mess up their dynamic.
It was sad how quickly Nolan went from loving to shutting Kai out. I understand Nolan's boundaries, but I think the way he did what he did was very cruel. There should have been more conversation when they came back together. I feel like a bit too much happened and turned out too well without a solution talked through.
There are some heavy topics throughout this book, so read the trigger warnings. Overall, I am glad I didn't let my initial feelings stop me from reading this story. 3.7/4
The Sweetheart was such an emotional and heartfelt read. I really loved Kai and Nolan together.
Kai has spent years surviving and protecting his chosen family, so it made complete sense that he struggled with trust and self-worth. Watching him slowly allow himself to accept care, safety, and love from Nolan was both heartbreaking and beautiful.
Nolan was exactly the kind of partner Kai needed...patient, protective, steady, and willing to prove through actions that Kai mattered. I really appreciated that Kai didn’t fall into endless self-sabotage once he realised Nolan genuinely cared for him. Their Daddy/boy dynamic felt natural and added a lot of emotional depth to the relationship beyond just the spicy moments.
The found family aspect was also a huge highlight. Kai’s brothers brought so much warmth and personality to the story, and I’m already excited for future books in this series.
I did feel like the third act conflict was a little too obvious and slightly manufactured compared to how natural the rest of the relationship felt, but overall I still really enjoyed this book and the emotional journey these two went on together.
✨ Daddy/boy romance ✨ Age gap ✨ Hurt/comfort ✨ Found family ✨ Emotional healing ✨ Protective MMC ✨ Chosen family ✨ HEA
The Sweetheart was an incredibly strong debut by Noelle Reve. The story follows struggling Kai, who has been on and off the streets for the past several years, and Nolan, who starts out as Kai’s mark and quickly becomes his Daddy.
I loved everything about this book. The writing was excellent, the story well thought out and natural in its flow, the Daddy/Boy relationship handled well, and the characters were perfect - both Kai and Nolan, and the many side characters and Kai’s found family. I also really appreciated that there was no real angst regarding Kai trying to take advantage of Nolan, as nearly from the start he was honest with Nolan about his original intentions.
The story does not shy away from the realities of teen homelessness, and abusive family dynamics. These topics were handled with care, but read the trigger warnings of these are potentially sensitive topics.
Overall an incredibly strong start to this series! Cannot wait to see who is featured in the next one! Maybe in one of the books a certain character might get a redemption arc? ;)
I would consider this a light version of the dynamic but that didn’t make it any less appealing for me. I imprinted on Kai almost instantly and Nolan was a very typical “more money than god but make him not a jerk” and honestly a consent king in all things, including emotional consent.
The author did have a note saying they realized they breezed over a lot of the ins and outs of home insecurity and I agree but I also agree a more detailed approach wasn’t necessary for the plot here.
I’m a sucker for found family and this book has it in spades. 10/10 on all the little subunits and how they all ultimately come together.
I’m not usually a fan of a third act breakup because it’s overdone and doesn’t always feel organic to the plot, but I’ll say in this book I appreciated how it was handled because it was necessary to allow the characters space to grow and then come back together even stronger.
I saw this is book one and I’m DEEPLY hoping for a series because there are several people in here I need to know more about (Matteo, Liam, the “J’s” as I started affectionately calling them, Myles, Landon, Noah. So many! Haha)
This book was so amazing. I laughed and giggled at the silly parts. I cried at the sad parts. Kai was so easy to love right from the beginning and his growth throughout the book was incredible to watch. Nolan was a strong, steady presence early on and was exactly what Kai needed. There is a third act break-up, but it really cemented how much they loved each other and it made their reunion that much sweeter. I'm so in love with this book and can't wait to read more of this series in the future. The book was well written with minimal mistakes, usually just a missed word but it was easy to fill in the blank and didn't really throw me out of the story. Also, the sentence structure was varied. I hate feeling like I'm reading the same sentence over and over. Noelle Reve honestly nailed it with the technical skills. I'm excited to see more from Noelle Reve. She's going to be one of my favorite authors, for sure, and The Sweetheart is going to be in my top 5 for the year.
Read it! You won't regret it!

Arc received from Author A big thank you to Noelle Reve for allowing me an ARC of her debut novel. I honestly could not believe this was a debut novel. It was such a well written, wonderfully woven story I would have assumed a seasoned writer. This book hit all the feels for me. The heartache of Kai and the boys taking each day as it comes as they band together to survive, they deal with alcohol abuse, violence and homelessness, they do what ever they have to. The drama of Liams manipulating and scheming, Kai having to learn to trust himself, Nolan needing to communicate and trust Kai, and then the lovely unicorn that is Katie (and her boyfriends) bringing a sweet and fun element to the story. I could go on but you really need to read the book yourself! All in all I thought this was a lovely book with a lot of really cool side characters -too many to mention but I'm excited to see them get books too!
Kai is a hustler, he steals and tricks to survive but he hates every minute of it. Kai and his friend Liam get word that a wealthy buisness man and his brother will be at a club and they head there to see if they can hook themselves a trick. Nolan spots Kai and likes what he sees, Kai is smitten with Nolan and heads back to his place. They discover a shared kink, but Kai panics when Nolan tries to treat him with expensive gifts. Kai and Nolan are from different worlds and Kai is terrified that if Nolan finds out where he’s from and what he’s done Nolan will turn away from him. The trouble is Nolan’s hard limit is trust and when something happens to shake that trust, it could well be game over for Kai and his daddy.
This book is right up my street. It was sweet, Kai was adorable and Nolan was the perfect daddy. The side characters were brilliant and helped to round out the story. I really enjoyed it!
ARC Review (and thank you so much for the ARC) This is one of the most hurt/comfort books I’ve read in awhile. Wow. Kai is so hurt and a hit broken when he first meets Nolan. He wants more out his life than what he has to do to survive with his found family. Kai is so sweet and pure at heart, but has had to do some things for survival, and he needed time with Nolan to learn how to forgive himself of those and that he is worthy of love and is a good person. I mean who hasn’t had to make a hard choice in life based on horrible circumstances? And Kai has not had it easy!! Nolan is such a caretaker, a real Daddy, and he is so taken with Kai right from the go. He was even willing to have a bit of give and take with Kai when he got uncomfortable with some of the spending/gifts that he wanted to give him. Nolan knew Kai was more than his past and that made me tear up. This book was so heartfelt and heartbreaking at times. A great read!
Omg guys this book was so good! I also had no idea this was Noelle’s debut novel! I would have never guessed. I’ll be honest I haven’t read a ton of daddy MM romance but this one is 🔥. I loved the couples dynamic and what they could bring each other in the relationship. I feel like both Kai and Nolan learned from there mistakes, grew together and made each other better! Now there is a third act break up, but I also feel it was necessary for both characters. Nolan had to learn to trust his decisions and choices, without any outside influences. Kai had to learn to be more independent, and learn to step away from bad influencers. Overall this story was amazing! I wanted to be friends with the side characters as well, Katie and all her daddies, the kids, Myles, Dion, Matteo, and even Liam . I hope Liam the little Brat gets a daddy next!
Kai and Nolan were a super cute couple and flowed well. I loved that Nolan takes consent serious and stops to talk to Kai before doing anything sexual.
The power differences between the 2 was well written. Kai having had a hard life and having been homeless and doing hard things to stay alive whilst trying to help and protect people he cares about was heart-breaking and inspiring. The fears he has about not being good enough for Nolan are real and how Nolan helps him overcome those fears.
The only down side for me was that sometimes I got confused at the amount of side characters that were very vital to the story but that is a me thing.
Overall I loved the story and the chemistry between Nolan and Kai and I can't wait for any future work from the Author.
The characters were engaging, and the easy writing style made the story a quick, absorbing read. I really appreciated that the male lead wasn’t one-dimensional; it was clear he wanted to do better for himself, but realistically showed how the people you love can complicate the choices you want to make for yourself.
The book also provided a look at the realities of homelessness and food insecurity, highlighting the difficult decisions required just to survive. I liked that these details and the characters' lived experiences revealed themselves naturally through the story rather than feeling forced.
Meeting the side characters along the way was a great addition, serving as a nice reminder of the small things that can make up a person's community. I really hope there are more books to come in this world, as I'd love the chance to get to know some of those other characters better.
What an amazing debut!! I just loved Kai and Nolan so freaking much. I saw Daddy/boy as a trope and immediately knew that I wanted to read The Sweetheart!
Kai and Nolan’s story was an emotional one, from the get go. Kai had gone through so much throughout his life and Noelle does not hold back when describing all the Kai deals with. Nolan and Kai are just so well matched and such a sweet couple. I loved all the side characters and the support that Kai receives just made my heart so happy. My heart was aching for Kai at a certain point and I just wanted to yell at Nolan so he understood 😂 I just loved these two so much!! 🤍
Hopefully, we get to see some of the other side characters get their HEA’s!!
Get tissues. I was sobbing at the end of this. Needed them tissues but my pillow case sufficed for the moment 😭😂
This was adorable and heartwarming. Kai needed someone to tell him that despite his past he was still good and deserved good things in life and Nolan was the perfect man to tell him that.
Nolan needed someone he could dote on and love and spoil and Kai was that boy.
I loved the age play and daddy kink. The found family was amazing and perfect. The side characters were funny and the perfect characters to help break up or add to moments in the story.
I did feel like things with Liam are unresolved but that’s just me. Bit slow in parts and that made me put it down for a few days but it picks up quickly.
Alright, this was so freaking sweet. I want to take Kai snd just wrap him up in the biggest burrito blanket and never let the world hurt him again. Thank God, Nolan already has that covered for me!
These two are so cute together, the chemistry is incredible and the side characters all stand out on their own as well. The writing pacing, and flow of the story were great and I definitely am hoping we get another story in this world!
I will say, read the triggers warnings on this one as it does have quite a few. Age play is a thing in this, while not the main characters, it is something to know before going in. I personally think the author did a great job with it and it was done extremely well! Definitely one I would recommend!
I received this as an ARC for my fair and unbiased opinion.
So this book fits right into some of my favorite tropes: Daddy/boy and hurt/comfort
It’s a touching Cinderella-esque tale with spice, a HEA, and a new start for so many of the characters.
There are a few points that could have used more detail/explanation:
— Nolan’s dating history that left him so sensitive to trust issues (there were vague and unsatisfactory references) — What Chris’ damage is that he’s overly protective of Katie, like she’s not a grown ass adult — A hint of the back stories of any of the supporting characters
This appears to be the first installment of a new series, so I’m hoping some of these get answered in later books.

Nolan and Kai were an unlikely and perfect match from the beginning. Their differences were vast but it took no time for their connection to grow. Nolan was a daddy and Kai had no idea about being a Little but it didn’t take long to realize that was what he truly needed. The problem was Kai’s past, he had made some bad choices, had been hurt and abused and it does come back to haunt him. There were some heart wrenching moments but the balance of love, healing and finding your person were written perfectly. This is an emotional roller coaster but the tender moments out weigh the bad. This is an excellent read.
