I always recommend reading the Sample on Amazon: this one has the first two chapters with parts of the third presented there. So with the Sample and the Book Description you can decide if you want to read this book as the premise is a very dramatic twist from canon. I also usually recommend reading the reviews. HOWEVER, one review (who will remain unnamed) has summarized the ENTIRE story so you may want to skip that one – I posted a comment about such. (Don’t you hate it when someone gives away the whole plot? Plus it discourages a person from wanting to buy the book and, thus, cuts into the author’s profits.)

With that in mind much of what I say here can be read in the Sample.

So, Elizabeth is kidnapped at about age four while visiting in Lambton with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner and her sister, Jane. The story plays out almost as if Lizzy was switched at birth. What do you remember before age 4? Elizabeth remembers Jane and she remembers her doll and knows she was called “Lizzy” by her family. On the other side of the coin is the fact that this family in which she grows up has also suffered a tragedy – the father and his daughter, Bethany, died in a carriage accident. Fortunately, this is a loving family: a mother, Lady Sophia, an older brother, Avery, and the grandfather, the Duke of Dunsmore. Our dear girl is Lady Elizabeth Montlake, well educated, beautiful, accomplished and with an arrangement to marry Lord Robert Frawley. Yes, she is a member of the peerage and marriages are to further wealth and status. But among the circle of friends and acquaintances is her brother’s friend, (you guessed it), one, Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Darcy and Lady Elizabeth meet often due to the families’ friendships and their social status. And they have that relationship we so learn to love in P&P’s canon…a teasing sparkling (“a spirited disposition”) Elizabeth and the Darcy who is drawn to her but who has also been warned off by her grandfather, the Duke, who insists she is to marry a peer. I loved reading the repartee between ODC in this story. Darcy is Darcy: he has his moments, he has his friends (among whom is one Charles Bingley with his SISTERS), he has mothers and their daughters in pursuit and he has his opinions. After the background is set, this main story starts out with Elizabeth’s first season. Then the intrigue begins when Darcy (wait for it, wait for it) accompanies his friend, Charles Bingley (who needs mentoring on estate management) to Netherfield. While at the infamous Meryton Assembly Darcy espies Kitty Bennet. At first, he thinks it is Elizabeth in that the physical resemblance is so similar. So he has to investigate…he has to get to know her and then her family and its history. THUS the story twists and turns. You know, surely you must know, where this is going. Oh - and there are the class differences now coming into play. Aha!

I love P&P variations and I love the fact that so many authors seem to come up with such unique twists. In this story we have many of our familiar characters from canon. And we have a new family as mentioned above. Lady C. is not forgotten nor her daughter, Anne, Wickham is there and Darcy has a new cousin, Lady Victoria Fitzwilliam, who has a very close relationship with Darcy (one that bears looking into). I did like this Darcy very much but he does have some ponderous thoughts and changes of opinion about some of the same concerns he had in Jane Austen’s canon.

DID SHE REALLY SAY, "IF I LOOK BACK..."?

I immediately bought the second book…Yes; this is the first of two. I could not put this one down and stayed up until 1 AM to finish it. It is not long but I did start it late in the day. This is a love story and a thrilling page turner all-in-one.

4/17/19: I listened to this story on Audible, which I won in a blog raffle.

I am loving this story, book one of two. Very well written, I find myself anxiously turning each page to see what happens next. I love the strong Darcy in this story, at least so far. Time will tell what will reveal about his prejudices towards his lessers. Elizabeth discovers a secret about her past and is just about to begin a new life resulting from its discovery. I can’t wait to read book two. Highly recommend this read.

Rating clean: Book 1 in Dixon’s ‘Everything Will Change’ series.

Lady Elizabeth Montlake was a woman who was so far above Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley that her grandfather, the Duke of Dunsmore, refused him on the grounds that he was not a peer.

The Darcy family had never wanted titles. Their wealth alone made them among the richest families in England. Every scheming mother and debutante wanted Darcy but he was not good enough for the granddaughter of a Duke. Darcy was constantly fighting the claim that he was engaged to his cousin in Kent and avoiding the cloying aspirations of one Caroline Bingley.

What he didn’t see; however, were the feelings of his cousin from the Matlock clan that had her eye on him as well. This was the sister to our dear Colonel Fitzwilliam. Lady Victoria always managed to get between Darcy and Lady Elizabeth at every turn. Lady Victoria was a real snot that could give Caroline Bingley lessons in snide, sneaky and snarky behavior. Yeah, she was a real b-witch. Her motives were as clear as a 500-watt bulb in a dark room. Lady Elizabeth saw it and understood completely. Lady Victoria wanted Darcy and she intended to have him. He, on the other hand, was dense as molasses and didn’t see it. He kept saying they were just friends. His feelings were in another direction completely.

Darcy visited Netherfield with Bingley and saw Kitty Bennet at the Meryton Assembly. He remarked on her resemblance to Lady Elizabeth Montlake and wondered if they were related. Here was a puzzle he felt compelled to solve. Mrs. Bennet saw him watching Kitty and jumped to her own conclusions.

Lady Sophia Montlake survived the carriage accident that claimed the lives of her daughter Bethany and her husband Frederick. His Grace, the Duke of Dunsmore presented her with a girl child and said it was her husband’s child by another. This lie would haunt the Duke for the remainder of his days. Like all lies… it eventually began to unravel when Fitzwilliam Darcy started asking questions. Things with the house of Dunsmore was about to change.

Then the unthinkable happened and Lady Elizabeth’s world was turned upside down. I had read this before and had not reviewed it. I enjoyed this reread and highly recommend it.

Pam has done it again! A book that was nearly impossible to put down. The heinous crime at the beginning that only a peer of the realm could hide. Elizabeth falling in love and being thwarted by her 'grandfather'. The awful secret of Elizabeh's origins finally coming to light and the culprit finally coming to light. An amazing different take on Pride and Prejudice. And Darcy is so lovable. I am eagerly anticipating the release of book 2!

In this alternative it starts when Elizabeth is just nearly 4 yrs old. She's with her Uncle and Aunt Gardiner in Lambton. Her mother is with child again and the Gardiner's are helping out by taking both Jane and Lizzy. The baby Mary is still at Longbourn. Anyway Lizzy is abducted and the Gardiner's and Bennet's are devastated. We learn that she is abducted by a Duke who just lost his son and granddaughter in a carriage accident. He presents Lizzy to his daughter in law as his sons illegitimate child. They raise Elizabeth as there own. She is Lady Elizabeth when the story really starts to get going.

The story now starts with Elizabeth having her first season and of course things can't just go smoothly. She meets Mr Darcy through her older brother Avery and we learn that she is already betrothed as is Mr Darcy. What follows is the problems of her back ground and the journey is tortured and intriguing.

Loved this twist on our beloved couple. I'm just upset that I have to wait 6 months for book 2:(.

I won this ebook in a contest for an honest review. Thoroughly enjoyed this story.

This is a very different P&P what if, and let me say that it is completely clean. This is book 1 of 2 but is a fairly complete book to stand alone.

In this variation 4 year old Lizzy Bennet was snatched off of the street in Lambton and raised as the granddaughter of a Duke. So while there is plenty of angst very little of it is between Elizabeth and Darcy.

There are some parts that strain credulity but overall it is a unique and novel approach to the story.

A fascinating story. I must admit, these are my favorites. So much scope for drama and angst. When I got to the end I couldn't help wishing it had been fleshed out and longer, more epic.
But the short read of it doesn't take away from the drama of Elizabeth finding out who she really was.

Lady Elizabeth ( Pride and Prejudice Everything Will Change Book 1 )

One again, P. O. Dixon has woven a very enjoyable story. Disaster occurs in Lambton when Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner brings Jane and Lizzy on a trip to Derbyshire, Mrs. Gardiner's home town. At four, little Lizzy was just as rambunctious as ever and wandered off chasing after a dog. Mr. Gardiner chases after her and seeing her turn the corner after the dog, follows quickly behind. When he gets there seconds later, the dog is there, but Lizzy is no where to be seen. Frantic, Mr. Gardiner as well as many town's people search everywhere in and around Lambton. After days of searching, both Gardiners upset, and little Jane not understanding why Lizzy is not there, the Gardiners write the dreaded letter home to Longbourn. When they return to Longbourn, Uncle Gardiner returns to Lambton hoping someone has found Lizzy. The Duke that has kidnapped Lizzy has convinced his young daughter-in-law that little Elizabeth is the bastard child of her deceased husband, his son, Fredrick. Not wishing that her dead husband was a adulterous man, she a accepts the child, because the carriage accident took both her husband as well as her young daughter, Bethany. Her son, Avery, was away at school and is totally unaware of what has occurred. When he returns, he he a new sister. Avery and Fitzwilliam Darcy are friends from school. Fifteen years later, Lady Elizabeth has grown into a fine young lady, and Fitzwilliam Darcy a handsome young man. They are drawn together whenever they meet. The Duke, however refuses Darcy's growing attention. While is handsome, rich, and owns much of Derbyshire besides other estates and various other investments, he is not a peer. Somewhere Lady Elizabeth is introduced to George Wickham. When he starts his lies, she blows him off, but he plants the story of him being engaged to his cousin, Anne de Bourgh. The next time she sees him at a dance, he is on the arm of a beautiful young woman, his cousin, Lady Victoria Fitzwilliam. Seeing green, when they dance questions are asked. He tells her there is nothing between Anne de Bourgh or Lady Victoria Fitzwilliam. Charles Bingley invites him to Netherfield and at the Meryton Assembly he meets a young lady who looks like Lady Elizabeth. Dumbfounded, he asks Kitty to dance, trying to learn something about this family's history. Naturally after two dances, Darcy has opened up himself to a bit of speculations about his plans. When he arrives the next day at Longbourn, Mrs. Bennet is as high as a kite. But, Darcy has come to talk about this post daughter. Darcy is convinced that he has found her. Days later he arrives to see the Duke. The Duke still denies him Lady Elizabeth, but Darcy assures him that's what he is here to talk about. He relays what he's learned about Lady Elizabeth. Screaming back and forth, Elizabeth opens her grandfather's door, only to run in to Mr. Darcy. Her grandfather has suffered a fit of apoplexy. Right before he Duke dies, he tells Elizabeth the Darcy did nothing and that he loves her. At first Avery doesn't want her real identity to be disclosed. After Elizabeth insists, Darcy offers Pemberley for the meeting. The Gardiners are invited along with Jane, Bingley is invited, but his sisters invite themselves, Lady Sophia, Lady Elizabeth, and Avery, the new Duke of Dunsmore. Caroline is so hateful to Lady Elizabeth as well as Jane and the Bennets, that he asks Charles to remove them to the North. When invites are offered, it is meant for only himself. Jane is sad the next morning and is crying when Lizzy happens upon her in the garden. When asked about her sister, Jane explains, and tells her the only thing she has of her sister's is a doll she's never without. Elizabeth asks more questions that point to the fact that Lady Elizabeth is just Elizabeth. When she sees the doll from Jane, she grabs it to her chest and tells her it is hers. Darcy has already shared that he loves her and facts about her family, and Lizzy tells him that knowing how he feels about her family, he sure doesn't want her now. Avery helps her into the carriage. Heartbroken, Darcy just wishes she'd turn around, and when she does, he now has hope. Cannot wait to read the second part.

This review originally appeared on Austenprose: http://austenprose.com/2015/03/04/lad...

What would you do if you realized your entire childhood was a farce? Of course we occasionally hear of stories of children who are mistakenly switched at birth, or whose families raise them in oppressive cults or religions that distort their very realities. It would be quite a lot to take in once the truth was uncovered, and that is precisely the focal point of P.O. Dixon’s latest offering, Lady Elizabeth: Everything Will Change, the first of two works.

Over a decade ago, the Duke of Dunsmore experienced a great tragedy in his life: his only son and granddaughter died in a horrific carriage accident, with only his daughter-in-law and his grandson surviving. Wrecked with guilt, he is desperate to bring happiness back into his family’s life. While visiting Lambton he notices a young and pretty girl, kidnaps her and raises her as his own granddaughter. This girl, who is only four at the time, is raised without want for anything. She is known as Lady Elizabeth, and her life is quite carefree, that is until a Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy decides to upend it. He finds that Lady Elizabeth, whom he has known for her whole life, resembles the sisters of the Bennet family. They reside in an estate near Netherfield Park, where he is currently staying with his friend, Mr. Bingley. What will become of Darcy as he attempts to unravel this decade-old mystery? And what will become of the growing attachment he seems to have forged with the woman at the center of it all?

One of the best parts about this book was the unique material. I could have never dreamed up a plot that involved Elizabeth being kidnapped and raised under the guise of being the granddaughter of a duke for over a decade. It really highlights the inventiveness and intriguing nature of Dixon’s mind, and it was a great change from other Jane Austen fan fiction to which I am accustomed. I liked how Elizabeth’s witty and innate nature shone through despite discovering her real childhood origins, and the relationship that blossomed between her and Darcy was so romantic and fun to read. It really had all the hallmarks of first love, and it was a great to see their love survive despite what Elizabeth is going though. I did have one point of improvement, however, and that has to do with the flow of the early parts of the work. I felt as if the first few chapters were isolated and disconnected from one another; the book did not seem to really gel until I got past this point. Afterwards it came together nicely, but it just took some time to get there, so take note readers. Overall, Dixon has provided us with another unique and fantastic take on our favorite two title characters. I’m eagerly awaiting the conclusion of this story in Book Two, So Far Away, coming soon.

I am not usually an audiobook reader, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to listen to a review copy of P.O. Dixon’s Pride and Prejudice variation “Lady Elizabeth.” A fresh and original story about Austen’s beloved characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Instead of following the usual P&P plotline, Ms. Dixon poses the idea, “what if Elizabeth had been kidnapped from the Bennets and raised as the granddaughter of a duke?” In this setup, it is Darcy who is considered unsuitable for Elizabeth. Though being one of the wealthiest gentleman landowners, Darcy has no title, and the Duke of Dunsmore is set on his granddaughter marrying a peer. The tables are turned when the truth about Lady Elizabeth’s origins are learned, and Darcy has the chance to meet the uncouth Bennet family during his stay in Hertfordshire.

The only thing I didn’t like was the narrator. I didn’t care for the voice she gave to some of the characters; Lady Sophia’s portrayal especially grated on me. But again, I don’t regularly listen to audiobooks, as I prefer to make up the character’s voices in my own head. As a book version, though, I would definitely give this story 5 stars!

If you love Pride and Prejudice variations and are looking for a unique story about Darcy and Elizabeth, give P.O. Dixon’s “Lady Elizabeth” a try.

Reading this was torture

Reading the synopsis of this book, it looked like a very interesting, very creative variation on Pride and Prejudice. I have read a few of P.O. Dixon's other books and almost always found them to be well above average. I was so sure that I would enjoy this that I bought this and its sequel at the same time.
I don't know if it was the lack of character development, a plot that simply spun out of control with multiple side stories introduced, developed, and then with a magical resolution dropped before being adequately resolved, or just the pedantic writing, but this was painful book to read. It is truly the worst book I have read in the past year. (Shudder!)

I feel kind of cheated that this book has a sequel that I need to get to finished the story. I'm not sure if I didn't notice, had forgotten, or if maybe the sequel wasn't out yet when I got this book. Regardless, this book was a super quick read that left me furrowing my brow in annoyance when my kindle no longer had pages left. I was enjoying the tale (hence my 4-star rating), but now I'm not sure if I want to go on. I hate being forced to buy more than one book when it's really one story. Sure, Elizabeth learned the truth about her heritage, so that was semi-resolved by the end of this--but aren't we all really just here to see her and Darcy get together?

I listened to this audiobook, which was provided at no cost in exchange for a review.
I enjoyed the story line because it is believable: a small child runs ahead of her caretakers and is kidnapped and raised as the granddaughter of a duke, who tells people she is the illegitimate daughter of his now-dead son. The characters are well developed and authentic, an opinion based on other period literature I have read. I didn't know this was book 1 in a series, so was very disappointed with the "ending." I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.
The performance was good. I started listening to it at regular speed but had to increase it slightly because the reader was too slow. Otherwise, it was well done..

I would like to thank the netgalley site and the CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform editions for this partnership.

Elizabeth is there, she stays in Netherfield Park and learns that more than a decade ago a girl Bennet disappeared. She will try to find out why and how she disappeared.

I find this book closer to Jane Austen but I still loved it. A first book filled with suspense and twists.

A very interesting take on the Pride and Prejudice story, although the story itself could have been just a good without the link. A childhood abduction and family secrets, excellent storyline and good ideas. I like the way the characters are written. Who is Lady Elizabeth? When Darcy visits Netherfield Park and sees the Bennets, he begins to wonder. I found Darcy's interference officious, and expect he would dislike the same happening to him. One can only hope that he changes in book two. Unfortunately I didn't really find any of the characters that likeable

I read this sometime in 2022, and actually quite liked it I believe. It did something quite different with the story.
I'd have never thought I'd have ended up reading so many pride and prejudice variations, but they're kind of the perfect background material. You don't have to focus on it too much cause you already know the characters.

What a great book! Elizabeth at age 4 is abducted in Lampton by a Duke who is grieving the loss of his son and granddaughter. To aid his daughter-in-law in her grief over her husband and daughter she is provided a new child to love who she is told is an illegitimate daughter of her dead husband, orphaned from her birth mother. Lizzy is raised as her own and not told the truth of her parentage. Growing up as Lady Elizabeth gives me many advantages. She is in the same circles as Darcy and the two develop feelings for the other. Lady Elizabeth's marriage has been arranged by her grandfather and Darcy to his cousin Anne. The Duke wants his granddaughter to marry a peer, not just a rich man from Derbyshire so he dismisses any connection with the Darcy's. Although that is not Darcy's biggest obstacle. When visiting his friend Bingley's estate in Hertfordshire he meets Kitty Bennett who bears a striking resemblance to Lady Elizabeth. Then he learns about their families lose of their daughter Elizabeth which coincides with Lady Elizabeth's time of adoption. Darcy will not rest until he uncovers the truth even though it may place Elizabeth in a family that would be beneath his notice. I loved this book but was screaming "it cannot end like this" when I finished it because it was not finished yet! I was thankful to see there is a continuation of this novel in part 2 "So Far Away" which is a must read now to see how Elizabeth's meeting with her real family is, whether she will stay on in Hertforshire, whether she will ever see Darcy again and whether she will keep her connections as Lady Elizabeth.

Lady Elizabeth is another variation of Pride and Prejudice. The story begins with the abduction of Elizabeth. She is being raised as the granddaughter of the Duke of Dunmore. Already the Duke has arranged Elizabeth to marry one of his peers to ensure his family's allegiance and power.

Fifteen years later, Elizabeth meets Darcy, who is her supposed half-brother, Avery's friend. Both Elizabeth and Darcy hit it off very well with one another except the Duke didn't want Darcy to ruin his plan for Elizabeth.

During Darcy's stay at Netherfield Park in Hertfordshire, he learned of the tragedy that the Bennets has suffered the lost of their second daughter. As Darcy placed the clues together, he became certain that Lady Elizabeth Montlake is Elizabeth Bennet. Even though Darcy knew that the revelation meant losing Elizabeth, he goes forward and informed Elizabeth the truth.

The story doesn't really end with a cliff hanger. Readers/Listeners knows that Elizabeth must continued her journey to learn of her biological family. They will also knows that eventually Elizabeth and Darcy will find each other but the readers/listeners will have to take that journey to find out what will happened to Elizabeth and Darcy for the ending that all of us believe will happened.

The narrator, Pearl Hewitt does a wonderful job of narrating Lady Elizabeth. She has the right tone for Elizabeth and Darcy.

I was given this audiobook by the narrator via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.
