Welp, pretty disappointed in myself for taking so long to clock this is AI. When I first saw the cover I thought maybe but it was recommended in one of my book groups so I brushed it off. And honestly it is a little scary how it was believable till maybe like 50% or 60%. There were mistakes in the first part sure but little stuff that I brushed off as just needing another edit (no spelling mistakes though so that should have been a red flag for me) but eventually the machine that spit this out must had got stuck in a feedback loop because it started repeating the same stuff over and over again. And also if you want you can Google this authors name plus AI and more info will come up. So yeah, bummed with myself but at least I read this in KU so I didn’t spend any actually money on it.

Wilder writes very engaging and likeable characters and I appreciate the cozy story telling. He infuses his work with a lot of emotion.

Unfortunately, he really needs a copy editor. There's a lot of inconsistencies, weird or lacking punctuation, and repetition that goes from being an effective romantic device to becoming a hobbling form of prose that becomes annoying and too much. His use of hyphens is heavy, and it made me wonder if the book was written by AI, though I don't think it was based on some of the other aspects of the text.

I liked the story and enjoyed my time with the book, but it could be several times better with a solid editorial update.

I absolutely adored all of the characters, from the moment I started reading I could feel the chemistry between Miles and Jax, and on numerous occasions I found myself crying over each of their obstacles.

However, the repetition became almost unbearable towards the end. I understand that it was likely used to “bring it all together” but that wore thin, rapidly, and I found myself getting lost in it. Some plot holes were easy to push through, others weren’t. Some of the dialogue gave me the impression that the author took breaks between writing conversations, and didn’t read it over before continuing. It was a lot of “only call me that in the library.” “We are in the library.” “We are.” “We are.” ??? It just felt rushed towards the end, and felt more… non-human??? I started looking around to see if anyone had mentioned AI because I felt like I was losing my mind a little bit.

Nonetheless, as previously mentioned, I truly did love the characters and I loved their love. It was, for the most part, a very good read.

I really liked the way that the author described places and buildings, and I loved the power dynamic between the 2 MCs

However, there was so much repetition of the same things over and over that I rushed through the end and it was a bit unsatisfying.

Just the best

I cried at probably 70% of this book. Highlighted almost every sentence. This book is pure gold. It’s super meaningful to me and I will be re-reading it many times.
