Beneath the Veil of Tides

Rate this book
Caelyn of the Oceanwrought Bound should have died in the sea.

Instead, she wakes with no memory, dragged from the depths and hunted by the very waters that birthed her.
When she claws her way aboard a passing ship, she finds herself among a dangerous crew: a runaway princeling thief, a villain-born assassin, a grieving, motherly pirate.

But something far worse than her past is rising.

The land is overrun by monstrous forces. The sea stirs with ancient power. And war looms on the horizon, vast enough to swallow both. The closer Caelyn gets to her past, the more the world seems to bend around her…as if every storm, every death, every whispered prophecy has been leading to this moment.

To her.

Now, with enemies rising from both land and sea and a power awakening within her, Caelyn must choose who to trust—and what she’s willing to become.

Because if she falls, the tide won’t just turn.

It will consume everything.

Sweet baby cheese. This book made me feel like I was running a marathon in the best possible way. The action, my friends, the action was non-freaking stop. No lie, my Apple Watch legit just asked me if I was okay. No Apple Watch I am not, but thanks for asking.

You are dropped into the action at the very start. You are going to ask yourself what is going on. It’s a good question. KEEP READING. There’s a damn good reason. And if you don’t love this whole ragtag crew by the end, then you need to go to the wizard and ask for a heart.

Beneath the Veil of Tides literally has everything. We got merfolk, freaking hawt gods, Raven (you have to meet him, I’m not spoiling anything), a delightful pirate lady captain and all sorts of shenanigans. Deadly trials? Done. Evil powers threatening to take over the world? Done. Animal sidekicks? Done. Found family? Done and done. High blood pressure? Also done.

This was a blast and that ending was not okay Chelsea Lentz! How are going to just leave me hanging like that?!? Also, ahem. If you need an ARC reader for book 2, you know where to find me.

“My name is Caelyn. And I am the sacrifice.”

First of all, this book cover is everything. SO beautiful! I usually go into a book mostly blind — so I basically saw mermaids + pirates and said, “I’m in!”

Right from the beginning, you’re plunged into the Oceanwrought Bound — as Caelyn, our FMC who realizes she has no memory of what’s happened, is fighting for her life against a Tide Reaper — undead creatures trying to capture her for a sacrifice to the Ocean Mother. She swims to the surface and seeks refuge on a ship where she meets what becomes her new family and eventually her Soul Tie, which she has also forgotten.

Together, they forge a plan to unite a magical weapon to take on the gods that are attacking their world. This book is rich with worldbuilding — with each realm or “Bound” unique. We get to visit each Bound as the crew searches for the weapon that will be their salvation. There is fun banter but also seriousness as they face tragedy and war.

The romance isn’t the focal point, but of course it’s my favorite part. Caelyn has completely forgotten Noctis, the god of the Forsaken, with whom her soul is bonded. Over the course of the book, she relives some of these memories that are very lovely. The chapters from Noctis’s point of view are definitely some of my favorites.

“I've seen oceans form, stars collide, even the first dawn rise over a newly born world. But your smile is the one thing that undoes me."

There’s so much going on as Caelyn combats her amnesia as well as monsters and gods, but her story of finding her powers and her way back to her love is epic. I would have loved more yearning and emotional insight, but that is just me.

Overall, this is an enjoyable journey of found family and fighting for justice in an epic fantasy world of gods, monsters, mermaids, and shades.

Thank you to the author for providing this book for review consideration — all opinions are my own.

Spoiler alert: This is my first five-star read of 2026!

It's no secret that I haven't been able to read as much as I used to because of university. Since it’s our summer term, I wanted to ease back into it. I wanted to take things slowly and not pressure myself into finishing books, but with Beneath the Veil of Tides, I found myself at the epilogue by the end of the day. You know how some movies start in the middle of the action and you’re left scrunching your nose to figure out who’s who and why are things exploding? That was me during the first chapter. The book takes you in hard and fast like a siren grabbing you by the wrist and dragging you headfirst into the ocean.

The story follows Caelyn, a girl who escapes her fate as a sacrifice and wakes up with little memory of who she is. She ends up aboard a ship with a fascinating group of companions: a captain, an assassin, a fugitive prince, and even a forsaken god. Together, they collect the pieces of a legendary trident said to control a titan powerful enough to end the sacrifices once and for all. Of course, pieces of the trident aren’t the only thing Caelyn ends up collecting. As the crew travels from one Bound to the next, she begins uncovering pieces of the life she left behind—memories, truths, and parts of herself she never knew were missing. A quest to save the world becomes a journey to find herself.

The worldbuilding is intricate and phenomenal. It took me a few chapters to fully grasp the politics and lore, but once the pieces started falling into place, everything clicked. I went in expecting a fairly straightforward fantasy adventure, maybe something inspired by a Little Mermaid retelling. I WAS WRONG. VERY WRONG. I got merfolk, dragon riders, gods, scary oracle spiders—really just enough lore to make the world feel like a vast one. Every revelation made the world feel bigger. The world is your oyster, right?

While the worldbuilding was what got me hooked, the characters were what made me stay. I genuinely can't remember the last time I became this attached to a cast. Usually, I pick a favorite character or a new book boyfriend and then call it a day. Usually. Every member of the crew felt distinct, with their own flaws and motivations that made them feel like actual people. None of them felt flat or interchangeable. Their banter felt natural and their emotional moments felt earned. I found myself rooting for each of them and hoping they would somehow find the happiness they deserved. I am a sucker for found family, okay? Also special mention for the angst of Noctis! A man who YEARNS really is a man who EARNS.

Beneath all the fantasy elements, it’s a story about belonging regardless of where you came from but where you choose to plant your roots, about choosing who you want to become regardless of everything that’s happened to you, and about finding people who choose you just as much as you choose them.

Honestly, Beneath the Veil of Tides reminded me of why I fell in love with reading in the first place. It’s the kind of book that makes you forget you’re reading. The kind that makes you stay up later than intended because you “can’t stop here!”. The kind that leaves you screaming out of the blue because that was how much the book wrecked you. The kind that has me rambling on and on here in my notes app for this review. I don’t think Instagram’s character count can accommodate all of the good things I have to say.

Until now, my brain hasn’t accepted that I finished it, that it’s over. Speaking of over. That ending?????? Should be illegal. The book is barely out yet so now I’m going to suffer agonizingly slow waiting for the second one.

This book pulled me in right away! The world-building is rich, the characters are complex, and the mystery surrounding Caelyn kept me hooked the entire time. I loved the mix of adventure, found family, magic, and high stakes fantasy, with just the right amount of emotion woven throughout. If you enjoy epic fantasy with unforgettable characters and a story that keeps you guessing, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

“Give it time. I’d bleed the ocean dry if it meant you’d look at me the way you used to.”

This book was incredible. If you are looking for a refreshing change from typical fantasy books this is for you! The writing in this book was lush and descriptive and I found myself immersed in the story. Whenever I wasn’t reading the book I was thinking about it. The characters were lovable while still having flaws and the dynamics between the characters was easily one of my favorite parts I love a good found family. The story itself was unique and memorable. Every new thing about the world made me fall deeper into it. This book made me feel so deeply for everything that was happening.
This book is truly amazing and it reignited my love of fantasy. I don’t think I’ll ever stop recommending it!

OMG!!

I’m so glad I tried a book that isn’t quite my usual read, cause Beneath the Veil of Tides had me hooked.
The world building was spread out through the whole book and I had a pretty clear and amazing picture from the beautiful descriptions with each chapter and location. My favourite place, even though it sounds way too high up for me 😅 is the Aetherkin Bound. Gorgeous!
And the characters had me rooting for them and their cause from the first encounter. Such a rag tag band of individuals that have burdened themselves with a huge task.
The character growth throughout the book isn’t all focused on the main character, Caelyn, but is well spread out through all the characters she encounters. I’m all for Raven though. Such attitude and devotion ❤️

I highly recommend!!

If you love romantasy- this is a captivating one the combines ocean inspired world building. As a mythology lover this book has a mythology inspired under water world - love, love, love this.

Caelyn, who survives the sea with no memory of her past and finds herself entangled with thieves, assassins, and ancient mysteries- so a little bit of everything from morally gray characters tgat keep you completely engaged. There’s personal growth from Caelyn. Along with of course a slow burn romance- which has your heart swooning which I loved

So if you’re a fan of sea, mythology, fantasy, magic, and character driven fantasy this is perfect and great for a summer read

Gave this a 4.5 ⭐️

This book honestly grabbed me right away and I ended up way more invested than I expected. The worldbuilding was one of my favorite parts because it never felt confusing or overloaded, but I could still picture everything so clearly while reading. Im the type of person that gets lost in the sauce. There were multiple scenes where I had to stop for a second just because of how intense everything got. (In a good way)
The crews and character's dynamics were also really fun to read, especially with how different everyone was from each other. It made the emotional moments hit even harder.
There’s action, monsters, magic, pirates, tension, emotional damage… basically everything I want in a fantasy book. I’m already impatient for more. PLEASE GEMME THAT NEXT BOOK! 💕

I’ve never been on such a roller coaster of emotions while reading until I read this book. Words can’t describe everything I felt during it. This book is a breath of fresh air for the fantasy genre. The world building and descriptions are just amazing and help you really create a strong visual in your mind about how everything looks, from characters to beasts. I really loved our girl Caelyn. We see her growth as we progress through the book and everything she survives impacts her and makes her have realistic flaws. Can’t forget to mention Noctis, even though I’d be up for a spin off where it’s Calvin and Caelyn as platonic soulmates 🤣. Noctis is one of a kind and his devotion to his lover is something we all wish we had. Each character really has you either loving them or hating them with a passion, and that’s how you know the author did her job right! I loved the magic and different ways the Bounds differed from each other. The list can go on for a while but overall, highly recommend this book!

Spice Level: 0

The book starts off strong and fast. It hooks you immediately, and it keeps you captivated all the way to the end. The world building is so immersive from land to sea to air. The characters and their development throughout has you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I normally just have one favorite, but for this book I have multiple favorites. The plot has you craving to get to the end to find out what happens. The pacing, though very fast, is perfection for the story, as it keeps you on your toes with every page turn.

Chelsea touches on some topics that can be heavy: addiction, trauma, parental abuse and abandonment, extreme torture, etc. It's important to read the trigger warnings, as Chelsea's beautiful writing really yanks on your emotions. I would be laughing one moment, and then the next I'm crying or extremely upset at what was happening to some of the characters.

In the story, you get various creatures: merfolk, gods, dragons, oracle spiders, shapeshifting sidekick (dog to raven), thirstlings, etc. The description of each creature has you in awe or shivering, because for me I don't particularly like spiders.

Caelyn (FMC) is strong but not entirely fearless. She pushes herself simply because she believes in doing what's right to save not just those she loves, but the world from the cruelty she has endured throughout her life. You relate to her so much, especially as she discovers her identity during her journey with the pirate crew. Noctis (MMC) may seem like a cocky god at first, but deep down he would lay his life down for those he loves and cares for. Diving deeper into the story, you learn how adored Noctis is. He would give up everything to save his lover.

A touch on some of the side characters, because I love them:
Calvin - the banter so good. He's like your annoying brotherly best friend. You're allowed to pick on him, but anyone else that does will bring out the protective sibling out of you.
Jun - my heart holds a special place for one that gives and gives beyond their breaking point.
Zahara - the love of a mother knows no bounds.
Raven - the "pet" that sticks by your side. Loyal and ready to peck your eyes out at the wrong comment. Don't refer to Raven as a pet, you'll understand why when you get to that part in the book.

You think the ending is all happily ever after, but then Chelsea hits you with an unexpected twist. I'm going to need Book 2 Chelsea!

Thank you to Chelsea for the opportunity with this ARC. All opinions are of my own.

A high fantasy world with adventures that will take you on the journey.
The storyline was good, and some good world building that was well described and a lot of detail. loved that.
there is a new found family connection with our main character's and they are the undertone to this book, the characters of this book have a world to save that takes them all on some epic quests, and discovers the different sub realms of this world.
I did enjoy seeing the layers in this world and the good and evil in it all.
It has a mixture of new creatures you won't see in other books and classic fantasy characters, like merpeople and Gods.
there is heart wrenching moments that will really connect you with the characters in this book too.

The MMC was my favorite, he has a lot going for him. He was the character that really kept me engaged and I loved seeing the duel POV towards the end of the book.
Our FMC was a strong character and I liked seeing her person develop along the way.
There is a lot of trauma that all the characters in this book have and you get to see how each one deals with their stories in different ways.

I found the romance aspect of this book as very low and more of a slow burn with a enemies to lovers kind of vibe (more yearning from our MMC who remembers their relationship, where as the FMC has had her memories wiped, so she has to re-discover "them" but initially very much dislikes him) no spoilers, as there is so much more to them.
but I think I would have loved to have had a bit more romance and see them progress but that is my personal preference.

A great YA book or even a teen fantasy.
very little swearing as well, a random word here and there.
slow burn
and that ending makes me think there is going to be a second book???? would be interesting to see where that takes our main characters and if it takes the romance up a notch or if it stays more of a YA fantasy.

Beneath the Veil of Tides is an immersive, atmospheric romantasy that captured my attention with its unique spin on mermaid (merfolk) mythology and a setting that feels like a living, breathing character. I stumbled upon this story while looking for recommendations featuring sirens, and I’m so glad I picked it up. The ocean isn't just a backdrop here; it’s an antagonist who was hungry, patient, and relentless that adds a layer of tension that sets this apart from your typical fantasy.

The story follows Caelyn, who wakes with no memory after a brush with death at sea. She finds herself aboard a ship with a fascinatingly ragtag crew composed of a runaway prince, an assassin, and a protective mother figure who form a beautifully complex found family. The dynamic between them feels earned and layered, built on shared survival rather than forced bonds. I also really appreciated how the amnesia trope was handled; rather than feeling like a plot device, it becomes central to Caelyn’s struggle to forge an identity when she has no past to lean on. The slow-burn romance is equally well-executed, evolving with the danger of a riptide and adding real emotional stakes to the narrative.

While the opening felt a bit abrupt and the worldbuilding took a moment to find its footing, the story quickly pulls you into its darker, mythic depths. Some of the prophecy elements feel familiar for the genre, but they are executed with enough nuance to keep the momentum going. I was left with questions about the histories of characters like Zahara and Noctis, and I’m genuinely eager to see how the world expands in the next installment. If you’re looking for a romantasy story with action-packed adventure that grapples with identity and sacrifice, this is absolutely worth your time.

Many thanks to Chelsea Lentz for providing me with an ARC copy of this book.
I am leaving this review voluntarily, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my honest reaction to the story.

I received an arc in exchange for a review!

Caelyn and Noctis deserve peace. Is that too much to ask?

The slow burn was slow burning and oh my gosh. Noctis is a true yearning MMC. I don't care that he probably shouldn't have placed a death curse on himself since he thought he lost Caelyn. That was HOT. What a man, what a man---

I loved the found family in this! The pirate crew have my hearts forever and I love how they're still so caring after everything they've all been through. I hope Calvin and Jun find there way back to each other eventually.

The addiction plotline was so sick and twisted and I LOVED IT SO MUCH. That is such a unique take that I can’t think of any other novel doing!!! I honestly want to know more about how the addiction of Caelyn’s blood started. I know the Ocean Mother has something to do with it, but im evil and want all the details. And the fact that Caelyn still holds love for her parents??? That's a side of parental abuse that I feel like other stories don't, and I applaud Chelsea tremendously for that. The trial potion scene will live in my head rent free from now on.

Okay moving on, I loved the worldbuilding in this!!! Honestly I wish I had a pocket book of the lore of everything so I could keep track. Just for my brain though bahaha. I loved learning about the Bounds and their customs.

I think i got a smidge lost in the middle while they were looking for the trident pieces in the Atherton and Oceanwrought bounds but I think that was more of a me thing than the writing. (Its been a rough few weeks lol) It was still easy to regroup and get what was going on! The writing style and voice is perfect for the book!

Thank you for the arc, Chelsea! I loved every second!!! But you're not forgiven for the slaughter of my favorite pirate captain! 😭😭😭😭

I absolutely loved this book! I adore fantasy, and Beneath the Veil of Tides is one of the most unique I have read in years. From the first page, you are immersed in a beautiful and spooky (no spoilers, but Tide Reapers are as scary as they’re meant to be) world of sea, land, and air, all connected in ways I have never read before. The characters are all distinctive and personable, you will have more than one favorite, and the main character Caelyn, is a wonderful mix of a strong and soft FMC that I really related to and felt very protective of. Her love for her family and the drive she has to be a good person and do the right thing made me want to reach into the book and hug her.

I cannot rave enough about the different creatures in each land and how imaginative and creative they are (again, no spoilers, but Oracle Spiders!!! Raven!!) The found family among the pirate crew had moments where I genuinely laughed out loud and cried, and the romance with a certain fallen god Noctis woven in with the action and fantasy was absolutely perfect, and I am very hard to please with romance stories lol, and the chapters told from his point of view tho 👀

The prose and imagery are gorgeous, and the fast pace kept me on my toes and guessing, and it doesn’t matter if you think you know the twist coming, you don’t lol. Chelsea is a writer to keep your eye on. The love of her book came through in her writing, and it is absolutely beautiful. I am anxiously awaiting the second installment and need it asap!!

This book was an absolute pleasure to read, and I recommend it for every fantasy lover. 🖤

If you’re looking for something completely different from the usual fantasy shelves, Beneath the Veil of tides delivers.

This story dives into a world of gods, mermaids, ancient magic, forgotten memories, and dangerous quests.Caelyn , a mermaid destined to be sacrificed by her own and the ocean goddess , escapes a fate designed to strip her of everything—including her memories. What follows is a journey across treacherous seas, mysterious islands, and long-buried secrets alongside a found family of pirates, princes, assassins, and even a god whose connection to her runs deeper than she realizes.

What I loved most was how unique the world felt. The mythology surrounding the Ocean Mother, the sacrifices, the gods, and the hunt for the shattered pieces of the trident created a story that constantly surprised me. Every revelation made me want to keep turning pages.

The found-family dynamic was one of my favorite parts. Watching Caelyn build bonds with Jun, Calvin, and the rest of the crew while uncovering the truth about herself and her younger sister “Evelyn” kept me emotionally invested from start to finish.

If you enjoy:
🌊 Mermaids with depth and power
⚔️ Found family
👑 Lost princes
🗡️ Assassins
✨ Forgotten memories
🌙 Gods meddling in mortal affairs
🧜‍♀️ Rich mythology and unique fantasy worlds

then this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

A refreshing fantasy adventure that reminded me how exciting it is to discover a world that feels entirely

I just finished Beneath The Veil Of Tides, and it was fantastic! The combination of worlds above the water and below made it a very refreshing change to the usual worlds I get lost in! Chelsea Lentz has beautifully crafted an intense and engaging world, her characters are instantly likeable. The story opens strongly, immediately making you pay attention - no spoilers!! The strong world-building and magic lore were engaging and while deep - easy to follow and understand. The plot is packed with twists, turns, treachery, and deceit that I did not see coming, but what grounded the story for me was the immense love held for the main character, Caelyn, by those who truly get to know her. Watching her journey unfold was fantastic. From terror to strength, Caelyn doesn’t give up. Even when faced with insurmountable choices, she chooses the right thing to do. That is pure power… to choose the right thing, even when no one is watching! Beneath The Veil Of Tides beautifully balances high-energy action with a strong narrative, coming together in an epic end that had me on the edge of my seat and rooting for the main characters the entire way. So if you're looking for a captivating fantasy with great heart and stellar pacing, this is it! Add it to your TBR and thank me later 🤌🏼 Chelsea, thank you for the trust to read this prior to its release. I loved it. 🥰

“Once the sacrifice. Now the reckoning.”

From the first page we meet Caelyn, who's fighting for her life and has no memories of how she got there. She must figure out the right path forward, ultimately trusting a band of pirates and saving a lot of lives to stop the evil coming for them all. The action kept me hooked throughout.

I loved the worldbuilding in this book! The lore behind the festivities in the book is fantastic, and the diversity of the Bounds (and how to get to them) is really creative. I especially love that each Bound has a very specific vibe that is very different from the others. I can't wait to see what additional information we learn to add further depth to each of the Bounds.

While the relationships start a little rushed, they all unfold genuinely and uniquely, each dynamic different. The slow burn in this book is also well executed and had me kicking my feet when the memories of Caelyn's lover finally returned. There is no spice until the end, and even then, it's just a steamy kiss. The epilogue hints at off-page intimacy.

There were some minor inconsistencies that made me tilt my head or cock my eyebrow (maybe I'm really a dog?), but I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone loving fantasy books and will be buying a trophy for my bookshelf.

Memories, I possessed none; loyalty and sympathy, I carried in full measure.

Beneath the Veil of Tides by Chelsea Lentz

First of all, the cover's gorgeous, and art like this will be the death of me. It accurately captures Caelyn's irritated, and Noctis' smug expressions when they first meet. I loved seeing these two cutipies banter, while also trying to avert a world-ending crisis. And the best thing about them (this is solely my opinion) was that they had this old-couple-who-fights-a-lot-but-actually-loves-each-other energy, and coupled with their slow burn, it was 🤌🤌.

And then there's the world-building: a unique take on merfolk where they were more than just aesthetically pleasing mannequins. I also liked how the concept of different "bounds" played a role in this story. The characters travelled through various terrains throughout the plot, interacting with distinct (and sometimes annoying, you know who you are😤) creatures, and I enjoyed journeying along with them.

Overall, I have a feeling that this debut will reach the hearts of many romantasy lovers, those who like slow burn, and those who adore protagonists who keep standing back up after falling multiple times.

I received a free ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.

3.5 Stars

Beneath the Veil of Tides is an atmospheric fantasy that immediately stands out for its ocean setting and intriguing premise. Caelyn’s survival after what should have been her death, followed by waking with no memory, creates a strong hook that kept me interested throughout.

I especially enjoyed the dynamic within the ship’s crew. The mix of a runaway princeling thief, a morally grey assassin, and a grieving pirate brought a lot of personality to the story and made their interactions engaging and often unpredictable.

The world itself feels big and ambitious, with ancient sea forces, rising monsters, and war building in the background. While I liked the scale and concept, I sometimes felt like there was a bit too much happening at once, which made parts of the story feel slightly crowded.

Still, I enjoyed the atmosphere, the concept, and the overall idea behind the story. It’s a strong fantasy with a lot of potential and an intriguing setup

This book is chef’s kiss. I don’t even know where to start.

First of all, the world building? SO good. It completely pulled me in and felt vivid without being overwhelming.

And can we talk about the Merfolk?! I loved that they weren’t just the typical ✨cute fairytale mermaids✨️. They felt raw, eerie, and much more realistic, which made the story even more interesting.

I also really appreciated how the book handled deeper themes like addiction, trauma, and terrible parents. Those elements added so much depth to the characters and made them feel real.

And the banter?? Give me ALL of it. Calvin had me laughing so much. He’s such a goofy character and I loved every second of him.

This book seriously gave me emotional whiplash in the best way possible. One second my heart was racing because I was stressed, the next I was angry. And I couldn't put it down because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next 😅

I’m already desperate for the next book 🤩

The world is so well created you will feel the wind in your hair. There’s so much action there’s no opportunity to be bored and putting this book down proves very difficult. Caelyn comes to with no memory and fighting for her life. This book doles out more to her alone then one person can stand but through every trama, very beat down, every betrayal she holds on to the good and righting the wrongs of her people. She fights to make the world a better place even at the cost of herself. This book will take you through an emotional wringer as she battles through the 4 bounds to save the world.

Thank you for the advanced review Copy from the author.

The different worlds sky, sea and earth bounds where so unique the magic system with some having power other don't all working togther was nice touch

i don't want to meat the creature in this book especially the all-knowing spiders

Love the founding family vibes fighting in unisinc ,having each other backs, cheering each other up, they would die for each other if it means the other one lives. I want in on the card games they sound like fun.

The triles to find each trident piece and the description of a new place felt like I was there. not one trile was easy and they had to over come such trama to walk way with the reward

Love the fact the ml was so confident inhimself and used his charm and mysterious ways to find his way in to the fml heart again

Fml lost memory and is supposed to be a sacrifice emerges out of a hurricane and land on a ship and the epic story begins

This book🤌🤌🤌 *chefs kiss*. Where do I start?!
1.) The world building, ugh, so good!
2.)I love the more "realistic" descriptions of the Merfolk- not just ✨️cutesy mermaids✨️ of fairytales.
3.)I appreciated the deeper correlation between real world problems (addiction, horrible parents, trauma) and the characters backgrounds.
4.) Give me alllll the banter, Calvin is so goofy I love him.
5.) This book had my heart racing and gave me emotional whiplash! One moment I was scared/nervous and the next moment I was pissed. My traitorous eyes kept trying to skip forward and I had to cover the up coming paragraphs with my hand to stop from skipping ahead. 😅

I am so looking forward to the next book!🤩

I received an E-ARC of this book, and the following is my honest review. Im marketing it as having spoilers because all the names of the predominant characters are listed.
A mermaid royal, a fallen god, a runaway prince, a deadly companion, a rogue assassin, and a grieving pirate……and that’s just the protagonist side! I fell into this book and didn’t want to leave. The villains were decidedly horrifying, the main and supporting characters were endearing, and Raven is the perfect addition to the crew. Calvin provides excellent comic relief to balance out the heartbreak of Jun and Zahara. The two MCs, Caelyn and Noctis, both have layers and depth to them. Through everything, they continue to bond and develop as they meet continuous challenges. A must read.

As always - be sure to read the trigger warnings at the start of any book :)

In this book - Caelyn, a mermaid "wakes up" as the Tide Runners are trying to execute her - she has no reason why - and swims up up and gets on a ship - where she develops legs aka the Little Mermaid like - on the ship are three pirates, which "take her in" but they know she is a mermaid, and actually the healer is a "bad guy - in the sense that he comes from the group that wants to kill her" - a female captain, and a prince on the run from his family. Eventually they will get a god who will come help, but he has his reasons for being involved..

Overall, a great story - I enjoyed the found family, love story, memory coming back - I hope there is a second book!
